Image change detection

i am looking for ideas and code of how to find any change between 2 images, say for example the image of a professor teaching on a board at two different times t1 and t2.
what i mean here is that, at time t1, the content of the board in the image will be different from the conten of the board in the image at time t2.
so any code of comparing these 2 images and detecting the change.

Using Java you would only be able to compare quantifiable things like the total pixels , or the size of the file . Although if there is any difference between t1 and t2 there will be a pixel chnge but this is a naive concept and not a smart compare. For this you might have to store individual pixel info into a variable and then compare it with the new image . ... Are you sure we can do this with Java , coz I dont think u would be able to do this without taking help from an external interface.

you may go with boundary changes in the image. thus, you could use boundary detection algorithms. there was someone asking for boundary detection algorithms some time ago....

USB-6009 digital input change detection

Hi,
I am trying to acquire digital signals from an ni usb-6009 device using daqmx on labview 8.0. I need to write the signals from a port of the device to an output file only when there is a change in the signals and I am not able to do this successfully. I created a digital task in MAX and was able to select acquisition mode as '1 sample (On Demand) ' only. Any other selection for acquisition mode would result in error 200077 with the following message -
Measurements: Requested value is not a supported value for this property.
Property: SampTimingType
You Have Requested: Sample Clock
You Can Select: On Demand
I selected '1 Sample (On Demand)' acquisition mode and was able to see the channel values on running it in MAX as I rotated a device connected to the usb-6009 device. As expected the hex values on MAX were showing up as FF,7F,3F,BF and this pattern was repeated everytime I provided the input by rotating the device.
Next, I created a simple vi to use the digital task I setup on MAX. I want to be able to record the signals only when there is a change in the digital pattern from the channels.That is when there is atransition from FF to 7F to 3F and so on, the vi should write to an output file and if no change happens, it should not write to file. To do this, I explored the Timing vi and tried using the 'Change detection' mode, but that produced the same error as above.
Can anyone please suggest a way to accomplish what I am trying to do ? Any guidance will be a hugely appreciated.

All of that effort with sample rates, timing, change detection, etc ciuld have been avoided if you had read the specs. As you finally found out, the device only supports sftware timed i/o and no change detection. You wll have to do your change detection in software this is done with a shift register/feedback loop.

How to generate an interrupt using DI change detection on m-series card

I want to generate an interrupt on the positive edge of a digital input signal on the IO connector.
Does anybody know how to configure an m-series card (PXI-6224) for this use through RLP programming?

Hi Richard, hi Ruth,
Let me address your questions together: first for 662x (part of M Series) digital change detection and then for 6602 (part of 660x).
622x (M Series)
Digital change detection has not been released in the DDK for M Series devices. If you must use an M Series device, please ask your field engineer to contact NI support so we can discuss options. On the other hand, digital change detection has been released in the DDK for X Series devices (63xx) [1].
If you can use one from that family, then your programming will be much easier -- the RLP manual discusses change detection as well as interrupts (Chapter 1: Interrupts, beginning on PDF page 48), and the example distribution demonstrates how to configure change detection on the device (dioex3). The last piece is data transfer: the example's data transfer mechanism is DMA, so you would need to supply your own interrupt handler to move data to the host (or alert the host that a DMA transfer has completed).
6602 (660x family)
Moving to the 6602, change detection is not possible. The 660x device family only supports polling for transfering data read on the digital lines [2].
Please let me know if I overlooked anything in your questions.

Why does the color and or tone of my image change?

Why does the color and or tone of my image change after working in LR for a couple of hours? I open LR and everything looks fine - work for a couple of hours on the same shoot - but then the pictures start to look flat or greenish cast as time goes by. All the files get flat and the greenish cast after a couple of hours - the ones already worked on and the newer ones I'm pulling up to work on. RAW files downloaded from a Canon 30D. Also exporting to PSCS2 as PROPhoto results in a flat image. I switched back to export AdobeRGB.

Hola - thanks for the reply - yep - closing and then opening LR helps - but can't do that all the time after processing 3 or 4 files.
One reply was a corrupt monitor color profile - So I deleted that one and loaded a new adobeRGB profile. That helped a little also for a while - I then reloaded my monitor drivers and refreshed them - that help for a day - the greenish cast is back It works fine on my laptop for now. The same pictures that look greenish in LR look great in Canon DPP. So it probably wasn't the color profile or monitor drivers. My issue started with the small scale previews so I bumped that up. Still have the issue. I finished up a project and now going to uninstall and reinstall LR. Let's see what happens with a fresh install. andy.

PDF image changes when opening in photoshop

sometimes when we open PDF files in photoshop the image changes. sometimes text disappears and other times fading occurs. Here is how it can be duplicated:
1. First try downloading the file here http://www.m3printing.com/files/wierd.pdf
2. open the file with acrobat. take note of the red NYN in the upper left
3. open the file with photoshop. you will notice the YN becomes faded
any clues as to why this is happening would be greatly appreciated
ps. we use photoshop CS2

This doc is unnecessarily complex in its color structure.
It uses CMYK and seven spot colors. CMYK is DeviceCMYK,
which means, the space is not defined in the doc by an ICC
profile.
A part of the red text vanishes if the doc is opened in Photo-
shop in CMYK mode. I don't know why. Perhaps a trans-
parency flattening problem.
Analyzed by Acrobat > Tools > Print Production > Preflight.
My suggestion: convert each page into a well specified CMYK
space as recommended by the printer.
The fastest solution:
Open in PhS in Lab mode with reasonably high resolution,
for instance 288ppi, convert into a specified CMYK space
and save as TIFF.
The correct solution:
Go back to the source program (InDesign) and replace all
Spots by process colors. Flatten and save by new name.
Export as PDF.
Flattening in advance to Export guarantees the appearance.
Export with layers contains the risk that flattening at the
receiver turns out to be wrong.

Why does color of image change when imported to Photoshop

When I import or edit my Lightroom image into Photoshop the color tones of the image change to a darker tone.
I'm using the same screen.
What can I do to correct this?

I tried changing the export settings but still get a different color image rom the one I get in Lightroom.
Also, the monitor was recently callbrated, so could the answer be in PHOTOSHOP's color management settings?
When I checked PS's Color Settings window the " Working Spaces" setting was at "sRGB"...

Color Management Policies @ "Preserve Embedded Profiles
My first export from LR was also @ sRGB.
Any thoughts on some common settings that might put this right?

"NETWORK CHANGE DETECTED" - Broadband dropping out

About 4 to 5 weeks ago I started finding my broadband connection would just 'drop out'.
I'd lose it. No email or internet browsing, nothing.
It might come back on it's own, it might not.
Generally I'd run diagnoistic's, and some time sit would come back immediately, some times I'd have to run it a few times
Sometimes I'd give up and walk away.
Often I get the message "NETWORK CHANGE DETECTED", and the connection would re-establish itself.
It may run for minutes, and I'd be back at square one, or it could run OK for days.
All extremely frustrating.
I've read past posts and see that this problem has come up before, but I cannot find a "do this to fix it" resposnse.
Seeing that it's happened to others, I'm hoping it's something Apple can advise on.
Does anyone know why this happens and how to fix it. I'm really at my wits end.
I've been in contact with my internet provider who give me the usual answers.
Mac-Mini (2.4Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo) running OS 10.6.7
8Gb Ram
Netcomm Modem NB6PLus4W
Broadband ran fine from Late December 2010 until mid may 2011. No idea whats cause this issue.

This is interesting I just put up my first question to the community also with these things in common
I am in Australia
with TPG on ADSL2+
I have a netcomm NB14WN wireless router
mac version 10.6.7 then updated to 10.6.8 - hasnt made any difference.
since I joined with TPG I have also had at first very slow and unreliable speeds (worse than dial up) and several nights a week it would repeatedly disconnect and the network change detected.
So since numerous discussions with tpg and several 'rebooting' everything they had a level 2 engineeer check and update the servers and now with the ethernet cable it is stable and fast ( same bandwidth and speed test every time). What I still have at this stage is an unreliable wireless connection and we have checked for interference in the house etc and now they have finally sent me a replacement modem to see if that makes a difference (should pick it up tomorrow). The problem is that some days the wireless is fine and somedays it isn't. It played up again two hours ago - put on the ethernet cable and it was fine, took the cable off a couple of hours ago and the wireless is fine at present whilst I am typing this......So will let you know how the other wireless router goes - apparently they check this one before they send it out but this one is from Netcomm also - I wonder if it is that - my dad and I looked it up on the net and it only sells for $100AUS which is pretty cheap - when I touch it underneath it is also very hot.

Why won't image change in aperture once I've export to edit in photoshop?

On going learning issue!
I finally managed to edit in photoshop via aperture. I have to change the photo from 16 bit to 8 bit so I can edit it. I like to take the photo into Photoshop (elements 4) to fix some spots and such.
It's supped to change in aperture when you are done editing in photoshop..right?
What I see is a new version of the photo, but the changes have not been made.
What am I doing wrong? I can see this becoming a problem when I try to export to print, burn a CD or even to web.
How I fix it?

One note on that excellent summary - you do not have to close the file after saving, you can continue to work on the image and save multiple times. Each time you save Aperture will recognize the changes and update the Aperture thumbnail.
As to the original problem, it sounds like possibly you were saving the image somewhere else? Converting to 8-bit should be fine, as is resizing the image - Aperture should adjust for any changes made to the image.
Another possibility is that Elements does not have something called "compatibility mode" turned on for PSD saves - if you've turned that off to conserve space turn it on again, because that compatibility mode saves a flattened image which is what Aperture uses to recognize image changes.

Flattening image changes values of adjustment layers

I'm working with CS3 on a Mac OS 10.4.9, 4.5 gb ram. My image consists of 6 adjustment layers and a background layer. 5 of the adjustment layers (all curves) are set to luminosity and 1 color balance layer is set to normal blending mode. When I flatten the image the tonality in part of the image changes. I also tried merging down the adjustment layers one by one into the background layer but the final result is the same. Any suggestions?

Are you looking at the image at 100% of size (actual Pixels)?
It make a difference to what you see on the monitor when you flatten Layers.

Why does the quality of my images change after I click on Save For Web?

After I click on "Save For Web" the quality of my images changes, how can I stop this?
I use photoshop CC on a macbook.

Image changes

I'm trying to create a faded picture for a flash web site. but when I import the image into either flash or fireworks the image changes.
This is what I did:
I open a photograph which is rgb 8bits and the file has one layer.
I Press the add layer mask button
Make sure the layer mask is selected.
Select the gradient tool - select black to white
and draw aline from top to bottom I see my image with the transparent gradient I want.
If I then save this as both a PNG, PSD and Jpeg and then open them in PS they all look perfect.
If I then open in fireworks or import to flash the transparency is still there but is reduced.
On theflash forum is was suggested I select "enable the cacheAsBitmap property of both mask" but I can't find that option.
Has anyone any ideas?

Are you sure that it is the transparency that is reduced, and not the colors that might change?
I am not certain that Fireworks or Flash are color managed, so it is a path to investigate.

Creating that blur using my brush my entire image changes too and becomes blurry. Not only that but the area I painted also becomes over exposed. What can I do am I missing something here all I want is to blur a section and not change the rest of the area

Save up some money, set it aside for a future build. There are plenty of new platforms in the works.
