(image folder missing after upgrade to Lion)

New Mac user
upgraded my mac air to Lion and now I can't see my image folder in the favourite panel on the left.
can I get this folder back in the favourite panel?
A search of the folder named (images) gives me a positive match in the spotlight search but the size of it is only 23kb.

if you are referring to the smart folders, they are not their in lion anymore. if you want to creat a new smart folder then go to finder>file>New Smart Folder.
you'll see a plus sign next to the save dialogue. click it and then you'll get a new line that says kind and Any. Click on Any and select images. now click save. it'll save it as images in a folder called saved searches (should take your there by defualt) and the important part is to then add it to the side bar by making sure the box is checked next to "add to sidebar".
Now you'll have an images option like before.
Hope this helps!

Ouch, if it is indeed damaged, then sadly you need to restore the whole danged huge OS!
Didn't used to be this way before Lion/10.7.
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.

After upgrade to lion, system reject previous account and password. Nothing I can do. Anybody help?

I have just expereinced the same issue.  I have a work around for you.
If you have a Snow Leopard Install CD you can boot from that by holding the C key upon boot up or hold down the option key and select the install CD.
Once launched select continue and then select your language.  You will then have access to a tools/utilities menu where you can reset passwords. You select you System Disk and you will notice that you accounts are still missing however you should have access to re-set the root account / pw.  Set it to a secure password - after all this is the highest level account on your machine.
Once done - restart into lion again and login into the  root account.  Username root with password you specified earlier.  Once logged into the system - you should still find your old user folder still intact. I would suggest re-naming this account and add suffix _original if you intend on creating a new account with the same name. The username of the folder is based on the short name you input when you create an account.
You can then go into system preferences / users and groups and create a new account with the same short name.  After this - I renamed the new user account to _delete  and renamed my original account to its former name by removing the _original (as i kept the same short username) Log out and login with your original account - it may ask you to sync your keychain if you have changed your password from the original  - in this case provide the previous password.
This worked for me - good luck.
I agree this is unaccaptable for Apple to release an upgrade with a bug like this.  Good luck - hope it works for you

After upgrading to lion 10.7 my canoscan 9950f scanner is no longer recognized. Have I lost thye use of this scanner by going to 10.7?

Not likely. Make sure the scanner is still available in System Preferences > Print & Scan. You might have to delete the old scanner and add it again if your computer cannot "find" it.
Before you do that, and while you are in Print & Scan, see if  you can get it to scan by selecting the Scan tab.
In Lion, all scanning functions have been relegated to Preview, the Print & Scan preference pane, and Image Capture.

If you just upgraded to Lion, you get 90 days of complimentary support, so don't be bashful.  Call 'em.  I called Apple support and they resolved this specific issue.  We first verified that a newly created Admin account could create and edit Address Book.  When it did, we rightly assumed corruption in the Address Book Library files.
Here are the steps from that point.
Back up your Address Book: From Address Book, choose File > Export and choose Export vCard to a desitnation of your choosing.
    Close Address Book.
From the Desktop, Hold Option and click Go in the menu at the top of the screen.
Choose Library.  If this is not an option, you are not pressing the Option key or you are not an Admin.
Expand the Application Support folder and drag the AddressBook folder to the Trash.  Close window.
Open Address Book and import your address book vCard.
Lion has changes that remind me of Windows 2000 where folders are hidden even to Admins.  Apple is purposefully hiding files and folders they don't think anyone should be seeing.  If you want Admin priviledges you had in Leopard or earlier versions, you need to upgrade to a Root user...highly not recommended.

After upgrading to Lion, my Canon 7d can not be found.  I have used the USB connection to connect to my camera for several years with no problems, until now.  I have reset the SMC, by powering off the computer and unplugging everything for approx 30 minutes.  There are no new drivers available and any assistance will be appreciated.

I was having the same issue after upgrading to Lion OSX. I searched the web and found many people had the same problem but no solution so...
I called Canon and they told me to run 'Image Capture' its part of the Canon Software Suite so you should have it and then try downloading the pictures like you usually do. I use 'Image Browser' and with 'Image Capture' running in the background it works perfectly now.

  • After upgrading to lion, cant use TM

After upgrading to lion, I can't see any TM backups, and I do not have access to this external harddrive.
In the TM backup, I can see all backups, but cant activate or use them.
When I click to the external HD, an error message says: "The folder "" cannot be opend, because you do not have permission..."
I tried to solve problem as Apple given on website, but didnot help.
    Thanks for help!

I had this same problem after I copied my TM backups from a 500GB TC to a larger external USB drive.
After some work, I finally was able to get the backups from the old TC to show up (in pink) on the new external drive, but still was unable to select/use the backups in pink.
After readings lots of the pondini posts, I saw some things that seem to get me access to the pink timeline items.
First, I read this post. At the beginning of it, it read...
Time Machine keeps the backups for each Mac separate, and normally only shows the ones for the Mac it's running on, even if there are other Macs' backups on the same disk/partition.
Also, sometimes Time Machine will start a new "sequence" of backups, as if they were from a different Mac.
To see these "other" backups, you need the Browse Other Backup Disks or (Browse Other Time Machine Disks) option.  It's available by Alt/Option-clicking the Time Machine icon in your Menubar, or by right-clicking the Time Machine icon in your Dock.
At the end of the post (scroll to the blue box at the bottom), this also gave me an strategy...
If you've moved from a network location to local, Time Machine will usually continue backing up to the sparse bundle.  But when you
Enter Time Machine, it will be looking for local backups.  You'll have to manually mount the sparse bundle by double-clicking it in the Finder before entering Time Machine, and may need the Browse ... option.
These ideas helped me, as I am now able to access the pink backups in the timeline.

I finally figured out what was the problem. The disk utility tool found an error in the backup disk and fixed it. I guess some error occurred while the upgrade to Lion was on the way.

  • My iMac is no longer visible on my local network after upgrade to lion

Prior to upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion, my iMac and it's shared folders were visible under the "Network" folder of my Windows 7 PC.
After upgrading to Lion, I can't see my iMac from my Windows 7 PC or, obviously it's shared folders...  I suspect there is a configuration setting somewhere that needs to be modified, but I just can't seem to find it.... any suggestions/direction would be greatly appreciated.

appears that apple has changed SMB code, and now its not possible login from windows on mac.
i installed snow leopard and now works fine.
apple is capable to make it run paying new license of smb code, but isnted of this, apple has created new protocol smbx and now, all others need to adapt your code to apple..
bad movement.. i am thinking sell imac and no back to apple anymore..

  • Significant slowdown of Time Machine after upgrade to Lion; indexing problem

After upgrading to Lion over the weekend I notice a significant slowdown of Time Machine processing.  I assumed the first backup or two would take some time but it's been a couple of days.  The process always hangs up at the "Indexing backup" stage.  It takes a couple of hours to finish.
I found several threads relating to slowed down backups on Lion, most seem to hang at the "Preparing" stage (not the same symptom) but I did find some good diagnostic pointers.  I installed the widget to see what kind of messages were being produced and found a few dozen "Waiting for index to be ready (100)" messages at the end of the stream.  Further research - this is not a good thing :-)  It seems a couple of such messages can be ok, but this many usually indicates a problem.  I'm going to discount the possibility of a hardware failure because everything was perfectly fine up to the point I made the upgrade.  Plus the prepare and copy seem to proceed at the expected speed (I watched the most recent cycle just to be sure).

I further found the advice and instructions on how to run the disk utility on the sparsebundle.  I did a verify and repair, and the results came back that the drive appears to be ok (it did not say that it explicitly repaired anything).
    But the problem remains.
I use a 1TB Time Capsule with plenty of free capacity (only half full).  The TC and my MacBook are both hardwired into the home network, networking speed has never been an issue.
I'd sure hate to delete the backup file and start from scratch, there's over a year's worth of data there and I have, occassionally, wanted to go in there and pick up a downlevel or subsequently deleted file.
Any advice on other diagnostics or repair options to take?  Thanks!
    Paul

After posting I decided to keep trying to slog my way through the troubleshooting guide.  Some of the steps are beyond my understanding but I did follow the advice in #D2 to delete the .Spotlight-V100 file from the sparsebundle.  That action does seem to have done the trick, the backups are now completing in normal time.  I ran a couple just to be sure.  I've verified the backups with BackupLoupe and entered the Time Machine, all appears to be in order and as expected.  The only odd side effect is that the backup volume is no longer ejected after completion but that might just be an artifact of all my mounting/de-mounting and playing with Finder.  Anyway a very small price to pay for what looks to be a working system again.
Hopefully the good behavior will last through a few days and a few reboots :-)
ps - if you're reading this and don't know about the troublshooting guide it's here: http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Troubleshooting.html (thanks pondini)

Apple Mail Search and Spotlight do not work for locating email messages after upgrading to Lion 10.8.3 on my 27" iMac.
When searching in Apple Mail, sometimes a get a few results (with many missing), and sometimes no results at all.
I had absolutely no problems before with Snow Loepard.
I have reindexed mail and my startup drive. I have followed discussions regarding this matter and tried everything - a waste of time.
This is VERY serious for me - I have many thousands of messages that I archive and need to reference for work and clients, and now I cannot find them.

I found out that I needed a $100 mini displayport to dual-link dvi adapter to make my $30" cinema display work with my macbook pro

When I found out that solved the problem, I took it back because that was too expensive for a stupid adapter, and it still didn't work perfectly.

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive may be failing.
Launch the usual set of applications you use when you notice the problem.
    Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the page that opens.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. What approximate values are shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec?
    Step 2
You must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way as above. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Post the 50 or so most recent messages in the log — the text, please, not a screenshot.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out before posting.
