Image organization PS 11

I have images on a thumb drive organized in a specific format. When importing the folder into PS 11 the organizer changes everything to meet the oldest, newest choices in the app. My limges on the USB don't fit that format. They are arranged numerically and often no specific format. How can I instruct PS11 to keep my organization.

There is no other option than date order in PSE11.
A number of users have complained about that change and it seems that Adobe has acknowleged the problem. Maybe in a future version ?
If you want to see a folder in alphanumeric order, the only workaround I know of is to select all the files in a folder and to assign the same date/time to all. You'll lose the original 'date taken'  but if you are dealing with scans, that may not be a real problem.
Edit:
If your order is not alphanumeric, you only solution would be to put your files in an albums and sort the pictures manually within the album in any order, by dragging the files of the album in the main workspace.

  • Can Lightroom work with Muse as far as image organization?

Can Lightroom work with Muse as far as image organization then uploading? I have hundreds of images I need to organize then integrate into my Muse website.

I'm not familiar with Muse, but I use Lightroom and Dreamweaver for similar work. LR doesn't directly work "with" DW, but I export from LR to folders in my DW site, and then upload the images with DW.
Using LR for this saves a lot of time, if you use Export presets. Say you have 50 images that you want to be 900px on the long side, 60 quality, standard sharpening for screen. Create a preset with those settings, select a folder to export to, select the images in LR, and click Export. Make sure to choose sRGB as color space for web images.
If you're not pleased with the result, or want to change something, export the images you want to change with new settings, and overwrite the first export.

  • WebCenter Imaging - Organization ID

    Hey
I am using WebCenter Capture and Oracle Forms Recognitin to create a "batch" that is inputted by our Imaging server. The back consists of:
    1. A txt file
    2. A TIF image
    3. An XML file
The problem is that, in the XML file, there is a line
    <orgid>1733</orgid>
This is wrong - the org id should be 204.
When I trace this value back through the process, I can see that the "batch" created by ODC is named:
    83_ADC0F7CF59E94A439E30B72F2D665583_1733_07052013.TIF
You'll note that the _1733_ value is part f the image/back name. This is set up in the commit profile, as "Orgnization" is one of the attributes used to build the document file name.
This is where I lose the trail - I can not see where this value is coming from.
I am using the "OFR Scan for ISIS" macro, and have looked through it, but cannot see it doing anything relevant.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers,

    Hi
I finally found the answerin the following document:
    "ODC-OFR-Integration-Guide"
Here are the steps to set the default Organization ID:
    - Open ODC cature app
    - Go to System | manage Macros
    - Pull down the Scan for ISIS category
    - Double-click OFR-Scan-ISIS-Macro and stop the macro from running.
    - Close the macro and keep it selected inthe dialog and click Setup
    - Set the Organization=??? in the Default Values field and click OK.
Hope this is helpful to someone else in the future.

  • Image Organization Overload - Need Some Direction

I recently made the decision to abandon ACR in favor of LR4. I am presently using the trial version of LR4 & am absolutely delighted so far. Coming from ACR, the transition to the Develop Module in LR4 has been quite smooth.
One of the enticing attributes of LR4 is its organizational flexibility. However, having spent many hours familiarizing myself with Catalogs, Folders, Collections & the myriad of options available to organize my images, I have become completely overwhelmed. I think that my problem is that I am so used to using Adobe Bridge/ACR that I am trying to adapt the image organizaton tools in LR4 to my old ways of thinking. I probably need to start thinking outside of the "Abode Bridge/ACR" box. With that said, I need to come up with an organizational structure that will work best for me.
Since I am sure this is a worn-out topic, I don't want this thread to go on forever. However, could I impose on some of you LR veterans to point me in the direction of some resources (e.g. stickies, past threads, blogs, tutorials, etc.) offering suggestions for organizing my images? I would truly appreciate it.
In the meantime, a wee dram of single-malt scotch might relax my spinning head.
    Thank you kindly.

Using and learning Lightroom is an evolutionary process.  Can I suggest some thoughts from a slightly different perspective. (ie Outputs)
You should become very very very  familiar with the Export function.  A lot of queries fill discussion boards on imports, folder structures, workflows, collections, etc.  The Import and Develop help get you to a point where you have an image that you want to do something with.  If you are only going to print your own images on your own printer connected to your Lightroom catelog and images then you will only need the print module.
Most people need images in multiple formats for web, local printing, printing via an external service, iphone, ipad, android devices, etc.  Whatever our main outputs are right now, you can bet that the options will increase exponentially. This aspect has the potential to have a bigger impact on your folder / collection strategy than simply the concept of the initial import and develop.
In my view putting these into multiple collections 9smart or otherwise) becomes too complicated , too quickly.
Spend time with the Export module and build a core set of Export presets that satisfy the majority of your output needs .  Then decide how you should structure your folders, collections, flags and tags.
A sample of presets I have include
Small Jpg  for web / email (full screen, watermark, low res, medium to low quality)
    Ipad
    Iphone
Full tif ( for use in other programs… such as InDesign or Photoshop)
A3_Full Title Page setup. (including Titles, copyright, location, other metadata). These are output from Lightroom as Tiiffs, dropped into a templates I have in InDesign and resaved back to this folder as PDFs ready for internal or  external printing.
    A2 Full Title Page setup
    A1 Full Title Page setup
    Publish Services for Zenfolio.
I have created these presets so they automatically store the output in a subfolder below my raw images. I just select in the grid view, right click on Export, select my presets an Lightroom does its magic and creates my outputs, nicely filed away.
Here is a sample using my folder strategy of Year and Job. If I use multiple cameras then I will have sub folders per camera (ie I do not want duplicate image numbers).
If I have large projects, then I create sub folders within my job folder. This could be based on date, photographer, location, or other heading which majes sense for the project.
I spent six weeks travelling thru SE Asia, Australia and New Zealand.  For that trip I decided I would create sub folders per card used.  I titled the folder with a name to remind me of where I was.
    Here is an extract.
In my view putting these into multiple collections (smart or otherwise) becomes too complicated , too quickly.
Lightroom is very powerful, with lots of options.  I would get a basic folder set up  and evolve your use of collections as you become more familiar with the tools available.

  • Image organization

I rearranged some folders of images on my hard drive. Dragged several folders into one general folder---all the images are still there. Now the  images which I moved
show up as "offline or missing" on Lightroom. Anyone know why this would be?
    Thanks.

Once catalogued, you want to move things within the Lightroom interface.  It will not track changes outside of itself.  Think of it as sort of an "iTunes" model of data abstraction.
You can use the Synchronize Folder gesture to find the images you have moved.

  • How to make my card reader  open in camera raw when I insert  sd card with Canon 6d images and also link to CC version Ps?

How do I make camera raw and photoshop cc open when I insert sd card from 6d canon. this canon code was not supported in my cs5 Ps.

I could see you wanting LR ,Bridge or some other image organizer to open.  ACR is not a start able application and Photoshop has no feature to import images from your camera's sd media to computers storage devices.  I just use Windows File explorer.  Look at your OS learn how to change you card reader's autoplay settings. On windows you will find information like this.

  • Need advice. Is it necessary to put images in folders and subfolders with LR?

It seems that the concept of spending hours putting files into folders, sub-folders and sub-sub-folders is not needed  with LR. Creating all these folders takes hours, especially if you are like me and need a major reorganization of image organization. My thought is that all images can go into one massive folder as long as they are properly tagged. I can then use LR Smart Collections to essentially virtually organize all my images. I can create many more sorting options using Smart Collections than I can by putting images into a folder. This flies in the face of everything I've learned about storing data on a computer so I'm nervouse to head this direction because it starts with unorganizing my folders and removing all tags so I can start fresh.
I don't want to take this on only to learn I didn't think of a gotcha issue. One drawback is that you are now committed to find anything by using LR or tags only. What do you think?

Okay, then be honest.  What would you do if you were me?....So - give me an honest recommendation on a go-forward path (no "coulda, woulda, shoulda's").
Honestly, I always start off from assessing what you really need or what value you could get from keywording. I wouldn't advise you to add keywords for their own sake.
    Lee Jay wrote:
Meanwhile, I can already find all my images efficiently in seconds in nearly all cases.  I estimate that there is about one situation per year where having a comprehensively keyworded image store would be helpful in saving me time - perhaps 15 minutes each time that happens.
Let's pretend that this isn't quite as black and white as you always put it. Let's say we're mainly talking weddings - typically wedding photographers add few keywords, if any. And let's say you do need to find certain images more often - each time you go to meet prospective clients you want to put on your iPad (you?) a portfolio of your best work for their broad type of wedding. So you might have categories like indoors / outdoors / subaqua, particular venues, age groups, religions through humanist,  formal / weird. Let's assume you do judge it worthwhile to increase the number of keywords.
    Lee Jay wrote:
I could start tagging images now as I collect them.  But then I'd have all those other images that aren't tagged and all the new ones that are.  That means using the smart-collection approach would mean all the new ones were in neat collections, and all the old ones were in a gigantic "untagged" collection with over 100,000 images in it.
Actually, that is the way I would advise you to go. Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the possible. It's not at all uncommon that people are put off beginning doing some keywording by the scale of the complete task. But beginning with the images that you're currently working on isn't too much extra effort. Even if it turns out that you never eventually do go back and keyword the old stuff, in a year's time you'll have a whole year's worth tagged. While doing so you'll probably adopt ways to make keywording less of a chore. For example you might add metadata presets to slap on overall keywords for the typical shoot "Wedding, Ceremonies, Christian" and then one or more keyword sets if you can justify putting time into varying the keywords between images - eg Bride, Kids, Cake. I wouldn't waste any time building up a hierarchy (do if you want, or not if you don't).
I simply wouldn't worry about the 100,000 remaining untagged - they'll be easier to tackle once you're you've got the experience / benefits from keywording new stuff. I'd advise you to do it only as and when you need - it's too big a task to do anything else. Let's say you need your best shots of Jewish weddings and - as you're currently keeping a lot of metadata in your head - you know some are in that untagged mass. Find them through the folder system as you do now, whack on some keywords like "Wedding, Jewish, Non-orthodox". All those shots are of the bride - whack on "Bride" (maybe from a keyword set). Hey, she's got an obvious tattoo - let's just add that keyword just in case it'll be useful. And quickly move on. Whatever seems worthwhile.
Although scripting could help, where's the script? Worthwhile to write/adapt one yourself? Instead for folder names I'd just just smart collections to gather image - eg folder name contains "weddings" - and then slap on the keywords. Sure, there will be some duplication between the pseudo-metadata in the folder names and in keywords, but duplication happens with metadata. In fact, it'll be quicker to search by the keyword "Wedding" than search for images with the keyword "Wedding" and / or with the folder name containing "Wedding".
So that's how I'd advise you - start with the new work, and deal with the older stuff ad hoc.

  • Image DNA?

I'm building a new website for my small business.
I'm going through **** with all the haphazard picture storage in my computers over the years! I have saved pictures in the most odd folder names... like **temp1.  My original intent was to temporarily use these temp files and organize the pictures later.  Well "later" never came and these folders continued with names like "2007-working"  Or "Ambush-shots"  -- Yuck! Now some 3.5 Macintoshes later the task of finding a particular shot is nightmarish. I'm fairly far along with a new image organizational scheme.  I've now created master files for each folder -- and they contain folders for each product for my business and compelling model shots wearing the product.
My current old site has scores of cool shots that are small sized -- and were re-named from the original which would have that familiar IMG_3015.JPG name format.  Arghhh.
I've gone crazy searching for the original images based on the date that the original was tweaked and renamed.  But I've had very little luck finding the originals by dates in Spotlight as there can be hundreds surrounding the date.
Eureka! -- Is it possible that some software plugin can get a "fingerprint" -- DNA data from the image that I have and that I want matching to an image that is buried -- and was adjusted, re-sized in one of those weird folders?  (I've tried the FACE in iPhoto -- doesn't work well for this issue.  Whole head-on face shots aren't the core of this)

Sounds like you want "Content Based Image Retrieval" but I don't know if there are any good tools to do it.  All I know is what I just read in wikipedia:

  • Looking for equivilent of Microsoft Digital Image Pro 10

Sorry if this is in the wrong topic, didn't know where to post....
I am a new Mac user and am loving my MacBook, but iPhoto isn't quite doing enough for me when it comes to working with and editing pictures. I've used Microsoft Digital Image Pro on my PC for the last few years, and REALLY like it, although of course they don't make it for macs. Any ideas on a program that would be the equivilent for macs? I don't want something as comlicated as Photoshop, but a little more than iPhoto. Thanks!

Here's a tip for controlling iPhoto's red-eye tool. It also works with the Retouch tool:
    * Type Caps lock + Control + 9
    * Undo caps lock
    * Click on Retouch or the Red-Eye Removal tool.
    * The tab key will toggle between cursor types, a cross or a circle for Red-Eye removal tool and between darken and lighten in the Retouch tool.
    * The "[" and "]" keys decrease or increase the size accordingly.
    * To get a lighter pupil with the red-eye tool, Shift-Click inside the circular curser.
NOTE: Using the "{" "}" keys will will change the value next to the circle and that represents the degree of change or intensity that the Retouch tool imparts on each pass.
Thanks to Old Toad for the above information.
I have found that in some situations where Elements absolutely refuses to correct the red-eye properly, I can get a better adjustment using iPhoto. But without the use of this secret mode, it is pretty much useless.
As far as iPhoto's capabilities, it is a really powerful image organizer with a few editing features for added convenience. What makes it better than other organizers is that it is not a file browser, it is a database application. Once you give the database some information, you can use that info to search and group your photos in almost infinite ways very quickly and easily. You can print your own cards, too. If you've had trouble with the 7 X 10 size you may benefit from Old Toad's tutorial. See his posts in this thread for an explanation and link: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4605228
I agree with you that Elements can be complicated and overwhelming. It has so many features that it can be challenging trying to figure out which ones you need to correct your photo. When editing a group of photos I try to keep it simple: adjust the levels, lighten shadows (a must for many indoor shots), fix red-eye, crop. Plus, I do love the healing brush (band-aid tool) for removing the odd spec of anything that doesn't belong. My Elements experience was greatly improved after I bought and read a good book. You can get one that will tell you which features really work, which ones are more of a gimmick, and how to do the things you need to do most. If you can get through the learning curve, then the tools I listed really are quick and simple to use.
    Good luck.

  • Saving newly-created images

how do i save an image i have created in a keynote presentation for future use in other projects?

I would put iPhoto to work as an reusable, categorical, image organizer. Create specific iPhoto albums that align with the image or special artwork you want to reuse. Then, at the onset of future projects, you have albums that you can visually layout in front of you as an inspirational light table. Categories might include:
Images, including custom instant alpha images
    Custom Text images
    Custom shapes

  • Replacement for Appleworks clippings organizer

My dear mother loves Appleworks, and is a devout user of its clippings feature. She has over 1000 clippings in there right now, and is dreading the OS update that will disable Appleworks to the point that it no longer becomes useable.
Has anyone found a more recent compatible application or way to export such a collection of images such that she will still be able to retrieve, edit and add to them?
I have found nothing out there that does this on a mass scale - the closest is the one-by-one manual method of placing the clipping into an Appleworks document, copying it from there to the clipboard and pasting that into your image organizer of choice. Not only would this be very tedious, but the image format conversion process involved means the resulting extracted graphics no longer scale well.
    Any advice is much appreciated.

    You might look into EazyDraw.
It's reported able to open AppleWorks Draw documents, and the "Draw" name would indicate it handles vector drawings.
That would save at least one step in the process.

  • How can I preserve the date and time of photos when moving them from iPhone to iPhoto and then to other folders on my computer?

In the past I’ve had no problem moving photos from my iPhone 4 into various folders on my computer while retaining their original date and time. I would import into iPhoto, then drag the photos from iPhoto into other folders via the Finder or Adobe Bridge (which is my principal image organizer). The original date and time of the photo would always travel with the jpeg into iPhoto and then into other folders. However, sometime during a recent session transferring photos in this way, the dates of the photos started to change at the point when I copied them out of iPhoto. Within iPhoto itself, the various original dates of the photos are retained. But in Finder and Bridge, copies of those same photos all carry the same (worthless) date: the date and time that they were imported from my iPhone. I can’t figure out what would have changed on my Mac to make it start re-dating my photos. I was happily dragging and dropping photos, and suddently I started to lose the original dates. Did I inadvertently change some settings? (I am running OS 10.6.8 and using iPhoto 8.)

(I use iPhoto only to import from my iPhone; I organize all my images, including thousands of RAW files, in folders on a big external drive.)
Why are you using iPhoto at all? use image capture or drag and drop the photos
The problem is that the files I am copying are getting stripped of the EXIF metadata
eliminating iPhoto from your work flow will eliminate one oppertunity to have this happen  For photos in iPhoto it is best to export them rather than drag an drop them - this assures your EXIF and IPTC data is correct and uptodate
Why would I be able, over many years, to retain EXIF metadata in photos imported from an iPhone--then one day find that the same workflow strips such photos of EXIF data?
Because exporting is the supported way to "export" photos - I never drag and drop photos out of iPhoto and I never use thrid party programs on the photos in the iPhoto library - try exporting as suggested above and see if that is the solution

  • IPhoto Usage Tips, Tricks, suggestions??

I was hoping someone could help me by answering a couple basic iPhoto usage questions I have...
First, is there a way in which I can automatically create an iPhoto "Album" from each of my iPhoto "Events, without having at manually drag each one over? Perhaps a script or Automator Workflow that someone could refer me to??
Second, what is the best way to find duplicate (and/or similar) images in iPhoto (duplicate no meaning references to the same file as it exists in the Finder, rather two copies of exactly the same image)? The tricky part is the I know many of the identical duplicate will often have completely different names from each other, so the tool I need would have to be able to identify duplicates by more than just the file name.
Also, I wanted to know what some of you think about the advantages/disadvantages of enabling iPhoto's preference setting to "copy items to the iPhoto Library" (which when unchecked, I assume would reference the images in its existing locations as opposed to copying them)...I like the idea of referencing the images in their existing location for a variety of reasons (such as not having to copy the 200GB of images that I want in iPhoto; also keeping the images in their current 'non-packaged' folder structure format so that I can access them images using other image organization tools such as Adobe Lightroom; etc...). Are there any drawbacks to references as opposed to copying? Will I still be able to use iTunes pointed at my iPhoto Library (containing referenced images only) to sync albums/galleries to my iPhone/Apple TV? What about Tivo Desktop...will this still work via this method?
Finally, what about storing the iPhoto Library on in a different folder/drive than the default ~/Pictures folder? Can I store the iPhoto Library on one of the three available (non-OS) internal hard drives in my MacPro and still expect iPhoto to find this library and iTunes/Apple TV/TiVo to sync from this library as well?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...These are the key issues that I have right now with iPhoto, and if someone could help me find the answers to these questions, I would be sincerely grateful!
    Thanks!

Well there's some meaty questions there.
First, is there a way in which I can automatically create an iPhoto "Album" from each of my iPhoto "Events, without having at manually drag each one over? Perhaps a script or Automator Workflow that someone could refer me to?
Why duplicate an Event as an Album? How about a Smart Album based on Date? File -> new Smart Album

As to using Referenced versus a Managed Library:
The pitfalls of a Referenced Library:
    1. Import and deleting pics are more complex procedures
    2. You cannot move or rename the files on your system or iPhoto will lose track of them
    3. Most importantly, migrating to a new disk or computer can be much more complex.
Always allowing for personal preference, I've yet to see a good reason to run iPhoto in referenced mode unless you're using two photo organisers.
Why would you use two photo organisers, such as iPhoto and Lightroom? iPhoto is a consumer application, Lightroom (and Aperture) are Pro apps. If you do use both, remember they both have to reference the files.
Other than that, yes, a referenced library will work the same way as a Managed one. The issues will all occur when you migrate to another machine or hard disk.
Yes, and it will work the same way:
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library Folder as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
My final 2 cents: Make a choice of Photo Organiser. Do you shoot RAW? Then consider Aperture or Lightroom. If you're shooting jpeg, then you'll likely be happy with iPhoto. One advantage with Aperture is that it, at least, knows iPhoto exists.

  • Lightroom PSD export inconsistencies and other quirks...

We are  a  professional imaging organization,  photoshop and lightroom experts (well, at least to our clients we are ..LOL)     We have been battling two very troublesome problems they seem to have been present in every version of LR3 we've used and its getting to the point where its costing us a lot of time so we'de like to address  it if we can.    I suspect its in the  code,  but perhaps its something more obvious...
For starters, here is our workflow:   1>  Import to DNG,  2 > Adjust  3>  Export as PSD ProphotoRGB
We then do our creative work on the images and  use layered PSD files for our intermediate archives (DNG are the originals as shot).  We use Photoshop to size, sharpen and export to final sized JPG  for agency submission.
    That said,
Problem #1>    When we  open the PSD files in photoshop (after exporting from LR3)   they are ALWAYS  dimmer, in fact,  we have to go into levels on each and every image and bring the far right slider over to where the  histogram curve starts so that we can recover the luminance.  In other words, if you are looking at the levels histogram in Photoshop,  there is a flat spot on the right hand side.  We end up moving the slider over to pick up the low edge of the "bell curve".      In some cases, this flat spot is severe.       NOT GOOD, we lose shadow detail doing this and quite honestly its  real PITA in terms of time wasted.
We notice in general, that even within the same color space, images do not look the same in Photoshop as they did in Lightroom.    That is an issue, they should at least look very close.
Problem #2>   When applying an Auto Tone (in develop)  to an image initially  we understand what its doing - setting white and black points -   but in just about  every case,  it applies WAY TOO MUCH contrast.   Again, we always have to slide the contrast slider over  to bring it within our tastes.    We wrote a preset to zero the contrast  but we should not have to do that ?   Is there a way of shutting the contrast off in Auto Tone ?    Its very annoying...
So anyway, we love LR3, but those two issues are severely limiting our workflow...     any ideas, hints or other suggestions ??
    Thanks,
    Mark

I agree with Jeff. Other forum members who have posted with this issue have had a corrupt or incompatible monitor profile. Issues that can cause this are hard drive file corruption, defective calibration puck device, and using monitor calibration software that creates ICC v4 monitor profiles. LR has issues using ICC v4 profiles and it is suggested to always use ICC v2.
