Image Resizing With A Catch

So I'm running ColdFusion on GoDaddy Linux Hosting (booo, I
know, but it's cheap and I'm a poor college student that likes to
have lots of domains).
My old host I was using allowed me to use nifty components I
downloaded to resize images, but had some MAJOR problems with their
coldfusion server, so I dropped them and went to GoDaddy. Only to
find I sadly can't use the same components, because GoDaddy
restricts cfobject and Java's CreateObject. So does anyone know of
a way to resize images that doesn't involve objects, or decent
coldfusion hosting for around 10$ a month?
Here's what godaddy restricts

  • I need an action/script for image resizing with a "special" attribute

    Having a headache, nothing work so far the way I want it...
    So here's the deal: I have a bunch of psd files and I need them saved as jpegs in a fixed size - 450x590px.
    The filename of the jpeg should be the same as each psd and the images should be resized proportionate.
    The psds have irregular sizes, some are tall, some are square, some are wide, etc.
    I tried using the place function on a template, but that requires my input - choose what to place, then type the filename.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you for your input!

    So have both Portrait and Landscape images with varying size. and want to create jpeg from them that are 450x590 pixels in size.  Can the have Portrait and Landscape orientations.  If they all must be Portraits 450px wide by 590px high  your landscape images composition will not fair well.  For cropping landscape image to portraits image normally crops away  to much image content.   Content aware scale may work somewhat better then cropping to portrait the introduced distortion may be acceptable.
    If Portrait 450x590px and Landscape 590x450px is an acceptable solution.  I would go with a cropping solution for there will be no distortion and centered crop composition are usually acceptable.   It can also be done with a two step action used by an image processor script.  If you download my crafting action package. It has a plug-in script that can be recorded in an action to set a 45:59 centered aspect ratio selection which you follow with an Image Crop step.  You run the Image Processor  script have the action make the crop and the Image processor to resize the crop to fit into a 590x590px area.

  • Image resizing with retina display (Mail)

    Can someone help me out?
    I'm having trouble with images in Mail. On my previous Macbook Pro (2009) I had a signature within Mail which included an image and it looked fine.
    Now on my new Macbook Pro Retina (2014) whenever I try to import an image into my signature it automatically scales to 200%.
    When I send a mail with the signature to somebody with a normal display (I checked my email on my older Macbook) it doesn't change back but stays at 200%.
    One thing I noticed is that the screenshots on my new Macbook have a DPI of 144 while it used to be 72 DPI. This is pretty logical of course because the retina uses a much higher resolution.
    However, adjusting my image to 144 DPI (while keeping the same width & height) doesn't seem to do anything. Whenever I import it into my signature in Mail it doubles in scale. I would really like to keep it in its original size.
    Although it seems every apple app scales my images automatically (e.g. mail, preview, safari. Adobe applications for example shows my files in the original size), it bothers me the most that Mail does this too.
    I hope somebody can help! I really hope it can be done without coding and/or use of third party apps.

    Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430

  • Images Resize

    Im relatively new to web design but have been asked to set up
    a site for a friend. Im setting this site up using dreamweaver. Im
    putting two images to represent theatre curtains on the home page.
    How do I make it so that if/when page is resized the images resize
    with it?
    Can I set the size of the page so that there is no white
    space to the right when users scroll right?

    You don't. Sorry. Images don't resize without usually
    unpleasant cosmetic
    consequences.

    I need some help resizing my images on PS6. I am using a mac and have been trying to resize with same resolution and constaining proportions but for some reaseon the smaller resized image appears pizelated. Heres an image of before and after. The first image I use is a JPG 72dpi 1500px x1500px and I want to downsize it to 600x600px same res, but it keeps pixelating, this has never happened before. Any suggestions, thoughts?
    thanks!

    I wouldn't say pixelated; more like blurry.
    Like ConnectedCreative said, what steps are you using? Are you using "bicubic sharper" when resizing down?

  • Permissions issue with image resize

    Ok I'm hoping someone may be able to help with this because it is really frustrating.
    I realise this issue has already been posted in these forums however there was no solution offered that has rectified it for me.  I am getting an error when trying to display thumbnails        "Error converting image (create thumbnail). The "" folder has no write permissions".  And this error when trying to upload and resize images "Image upload error. Error resizing image: Error converting image (image resize). The "" folder has no write permissions. (IMG_RESIZE)". All folders on server have full read, write and execute permissions, so I am really confused why this happenning.  I have removed and updated the includes folder on the server with no joy.  I altered the tNG_custom.class.php, tNG_insert.class.php, tNG_update.class.php files to remove the tNG_fields line to just tNG as this was throwing errors with PHP5.3.  I also changed everything else per http://forums.adobe.com/message/2357443#2357443.
    This is the tNG execution trace (why the tNGUNKNOWN??):-

    Hello BoarderLineLtd
    I have noticed that on some servers when you upload the first image to the images folder using the ADDT image upload function the thumbnail directory that gets written to the images directory is written but the permissions are not set.
    If you use an FTP program such as CuteFTP or WSFTP to login to your web site you can manually set the permissions for the thumbnail directory.
    This should eliminate the permissions error.

  • PSE newbie frustrated, please help with image resizing

    Hi!
    Tutorials aren't helping me, nor is trial and error. I just want to resize some photos I downloaded to my computer, then upload them to a website to use as my avatar or signature. There are specific pixel dimensions I must adhere to. I want to keep the photo in it's entirety, but when I resize it, it distorts a bit, looks fuzzy...
    I can't figure out what the heck I am doing wrong. Some pictures turn out just fine and others look really bad. I know it can be done because I've seen the same pictures I'm trying to size, being used for the same thing I want to use them for, but theirs are clear, absolutely no distortion whatsoever. The pixel dimensions I have to work with are either 100x100, or 450 pixels wide by 90 pixels high.
    I hope this made sense, I'm not sure how else to word it. Please forgive my ignorance, I've really been trying.
    Thank-you
    B

    For an avatar it’s possibly best to crop to begin with so you get a true square.
    Open the image and select the crop tool and change the aspect ratio to 1 x 1 or 5 x 5 then drag out a square and move the image around inside it or drag the bounding box borders until you have it looking as you want. Then click the green check mark.
    On the top menu click Image > Resize > Image Size and in either the height or width box type 100 px (you only need to type the dimension once the other box will change to 100 automatically. Make sure you have the bottom three boxes checked:
    Scale Styles
    Constrain Proportions
    Resample Image
    With all three checked set the bottom dropdown to Bicubic and then hit OK.
    If you want to apply some sharpening select Enhance on the top menu and choose Unsharp Mask.
    Make sure the Radius is no more than 1.5 and use the amount slider to get the image looking as you want it then save.

  • Image-resize servlet

    Hi,
    Ive been working on an image-resizing servlet on and off for quite some time now, and I just cant seem to get it to load the image correctly.
    I guess its very simple once you figure it out. The following is the interesting part:
    Image image = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getImage("../pictures/pic" + pictureId + ".jpg");
    MediaTracker tracker = new MediaTracker( new JFrame() );
    tracker.addImage(image, 1);
    // Load image
    try {
      tracker.waitForAll();
    } catch (InterruptedException e) {}
    // Scale image
    image = image.getScaledInstance(width, height, Image.SCALE_DEFAULT);I then copy the Graphics from the Image to another Graphics before it is sent to the client (have some cache-stuff going on in the middle), but all images turn out beeing plain black.
    Anyone with ideas/sample code?

    hi flaperman
    i did something similar in my resizing servlet:
    BufferedImage image = ImageIO.read(new File(path));
    Image im = image.getScaledInstance(width, height, Image.SCALE_FAST);
    BufferedImage thumbnail = toBufferedImage(im);
    ImageIO.write(thumbnail, "jpeg", response.getOutputStream());
    i found the code of the method toBufferedImage() on the following page http://developers.sun.com/solaris/tech_topics/java/articles/awt.html
    maybe this will help you. but i'm afraid it is slow and it seems to be leaking memory (a lot).
    cheers

  • Proportional Image Resizing

    Hi,
    Description of the task:
    I need to upload two images one is a full image and the other is a thumbnail representation of the same image of type jpg. I also need to ensure that all the uploaded images are within a given maximun size. For example:
    Thumbs should be 76 x 55 pixels
    FullSized should be 247 x 183 pixels
    Task Achievements:
    I've used the apachee commons package's FileItem class to handle retrival and storage of the image from the submitting servelet form.
    Description of the Problem:
    Don't know how to apply a proportional resize on the uploaded files (images) before storing them.
    Other Questions:
    1. Will the fact that conventional Buffered approach for reading files being not used hamper file manipulation?
    2. Can a proportional Image resizing function be applied to images in java. (Similar to that of php)
    3. Can an external php file be called or accessed from within java (a servlet) to perform the same functions of uploading an image and resizing it porportionally.

  • How Do You Make an Image Flow with the Text?

    Hello all,
    I am using CS4 InDesign on Windows Vista. I am fairly new to Indesign but try to do my research and homework well before asking what I hope is not a really dumb question.
    I am writing a book of approx. 350 pages that is an illustrated encyclopedia of 156 plants and their oils.
    Each 2 page spread is a single entry for a plant. The graphics frames on each spread are identical in size, position and styles for a consistent look throughout the document.As you can see (hopefully) each page is a single column. See screenshot below
    In order to overcome my first problem of positioning and sizing the graphics frames uniformly, I created the master pages with the graphics placeholders sized, positioned and formatted to my liking. This worked wonderfully and I placed all of my 300+ graphics by simply over riding each frame.
    Then in my editing I decided to add another 2 page spread somewhere in the middle of this fairly large document.
    What a NIGHTMARE. The text predictably shifted but now ALL of my graphics were no longer associated with the corresponding text! Arrrgghhh.I had not anticipated this behavior (used MS Word for 15 years) or I would have done something different.
    3 hours later I finished re -"placing" the images associated with the correct text.
    I researched the help file and found out about the neccessity of anchoring graphics to text. I have read through the threads in this forum, followed links to "indesignsecrets.com/make-an-image-flow-with-the-text" and " Working with anchored objects by Anne Marie Concepcion"
    My concerns are this.
    An inline graphic places the graphic back onto your text layer for some reason ( Previously my graphics each had their own layer)
    Not wanting to start (again) from scratch with my graphics I converted them to inline/custom anchored objects.
    But to select then cut then paste every pre existing graphic to anchor it inline seems to be cumbersome and counter intuitive although the top smaller graphic did position well and the text seemed to wrap ok.
    When I placed the larger bottom graphic on the left facing page using custom positioning I was not able to get the text to wrap at all.( The in line anchoring did not seem to allow for positioning on anything but the 'Y' axis).
    It seems that there would be a simpler way to place text and graphics where you want them and have them associate and flow together (or not) when you want them to and have text wrap easily around an anchored object without keyboard gymnastics. It would seem that the concept of a certain graphic being associated or linked with certain text would not be an unusual concept in desktop publishing.
    Am I missing something?
    Can you place an anchored graphics frame on the master page with your desired options?
    How would this be done if possible?
    Is there any other way (i.e grouping) to keep graphics associated with the desired text so that it flows together if extra pages are added?
    Is the fact that my graphics frames are on my master pages responsible for my text wrap difficulty? (I have text wrap enabled on my master pages)
    Are there any settings, redundant or otherwise, I need to be aware of?
    Thank you in advance for any suggestions or directions
    L.N.

    Hello Again,
    Thank You Bob but I am still a little fuzzy on this. I have already created object styles for the graphics frames. For instance the small graphic underneath the heading (Its a drop of oil) has an object style applied. Now I checked and it has the anchored object options checked in the style dialog box. When I reapply the style to the next similar graphics nothing happens. It is still not anchored. Do I need to create a new style based on "nothing" add my effects plus the anchoring options? Basically start over. If thats what I need to do thats OK. As to your instruction that object styles could accomodate this anchoring thing...thats what I thought too but somehow I can't get it to work. See object style dialog box screenshot below:
    For the larger graphic on the bottom of the left facing page. I still cannot get any text to wrap. In the screenshot example the text describing this particular plant doesn't go to the bottom of the page so the wrapping issue on this page is moot. However I have some entries where the body of the description is more involved and does go to the bottom of the page and the text WOULD need to wrap around the plant (larger ) graphic.
    Hi there Harb, Yes I found out early on that object styles can't apply size (that would be on my wish list for sure) That is why I found that creating my graphics frames on the master page with the correct size, effects and positioning tickled me so much. Can you believe I originally went through and MANUALLY resized and repositioned each and every 300+ graphics in this book but it still wasn't right. I'm nothing if not persistent. (Now if I could just get my grown sons to pick up their socks!)
    Anyway the master page graphics frames idea would be perfect if I could get the images to anchor in their respective spots on the master page as well.
    For your second suggestion. I am not clear about why I would need to break the threads of each spread so that each spread is a seperate article. Is the threading issue the thing that is causing my text to move on leaving their associated graphics behind? If so how do I go about doing this?
    So to recap:
    1. I need to know if I can modify my object style or recreate from scratch with the anchoring option (as I said it didn't work)
    2. Can't get text to wrap around the Custom anchored graphic at bottom of page at all
    3. Im not clear on the breaking the threading on the spreads
    I am willing to go back through and start from scratch (new master pages, styles etc ) if neccesary. This book is the culmination of 7 years of research and artwork.Basically the project is DONE. Now if I can just format it correctly.
    I can't thank you both enough for your time, suggestions, expertise and patience.
    Thanks again

  • Ways to implement image resizing using plug-ins?

    Hi Photoshop developers,
    I'm a developer with a few Photoshop filter and selection plug-ins under my belt, and I have a good understanding of the SDK and tools and suites it provides. My next project is an algorithm for enlarging/resampling images to different pixel dimensions. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for or experience with the best combination of plug-in types to implement this.
    Clearly, I can't just write it as a filter plug-in, since there is no way to change the image dimensions from within a filter.
    I'd like the resized image to remain within Photoshop (as a new window or in the original one), so an export plug-in on its own is not sufficient.
    Import plug-ins seem promising, since they allow the creation of a new document of the required size. However, as best I can tell from the Photoshop 6.0 SDK documentation, import plug-ins cannot access the image data from other open documents (or even the clipboard), nor do they provide any support for channel ports and the Channel Port suite.
    My best idea at this stage is to create an export plug-in to provide the user interface and calculate the resized image, and then an import plug-in to import the resized image back into a new window. (I'm supposing a further automation plug-in would then be written to perform this export/import sequence.) The difficulty I see with this approach is how to communicate the resized image data between the two plug-ins. Since the resized image will potentially be very large, the ideal solution would be to store it in channels managed by the Channel Ports suite. However, I cannot see how the channel ports created in the export plug-in could be communicated to and used by an import plug-in. The alternative would be for the export plug-in to save the resized image to a temporary file on disk, however this seems unnecessary.
    So, my questions, specifically, are:
    a) Is it possible to create new channels using the Channel Ports suite (sPSChannelPorts->New()) in one plug-in, and have those channels persist to be used in another plug-in?
    b) If so, how would the channel ports be communicated between the plug-ins?
    c) Alternately, are there any alternative architectures available for implementing an image-resizing algorithm using the plug-in types that are available for Photoshop developers.
    Any responses would be greatly appreciated; I know this is a low-traffic forum...
    Thanks,
    Matthew.

However, as best I can tell from the <br />> Photoshop 6.0 SDK documentation, import plug-ins cannot access the image <br />> data from other open documents (or even the clipboard), nor do they <br />> provide any support for channel ports and the Channel Port suite.<br />><br />> My best idea at this stage is to create an export plug-in to provide the <br />> user interface and calculate the resized image, and then an import plug-in <br />> to import the resized image back into a new window. (I'm supposing a <br />> further automation plug-in would then be written to perform this <br />> export/import sequence.) The difficulty I see with this approach is how to <br />> communicate the resized image data between the two plug-ins. Since the <br />> resized image will potentially be very large, the ideal solution would be <br />> to store it in channels managed by the Channel Ports suite. However, I <br />> cannot see how the channel ports created in the export plug-in could be <br />> communicated to and used by an import plug-in. The alternative would be <br />> for the export plug-in to save the resized image to a temporary file on <br />> disk, however this seems unnecessary.<br />><br />> So, my questions, specifically, are:<br />><br />> a) Is it possible to create new channels using the Channel Ports suite <br />> (sPSChannelPorts->New()) in one plug-in, and have those channels persist <br />> to be used in another plug-in?<br />><br />> b) If so, how would the channel ports be communicated between the <br />> plug-ins?<br />><br />> c) Alternately, are there any alternative architectures available for <br />> implementing an image-resizing algorithm using the plug-in types that are <br />> available for Photoshop developers.<br />><br />> Any responses would be greatly appreciated; I know this is a low-traffic <br />> forum...<br />><br />> Thanks,<br />> Matthew.

  • Images as Buttons and Image Resizing in mxml

    Sorry for all the questions but I've run into a problem when trying to create buttons that are just an image in mxml. When I first tried this I couldn't find a way to get the border around the button to dissapear so it ended up looking like my image had an extra black border around it. Then someone here suggested I just set the buttonMode property of an mx:Image to true which ended up working fine to a point. The problem I'm having is that even if I make the tabEnabled property of the image (that I'm using as a button) true, I can't tab over to it. Is there a way to either get rid of the black borders of a button or to make it so I can tab over to an image I'm using as a button?
    My second question has to do with image resizing. Lets say I have an image of a horizontal line that I want to put at the top of the mxml page, and I want it to extend the full length of the page, even after the user has resized the browser. Is there a way to do that? I've tried putting the width as 100% or giving the image a "left" and "right" value so that presumably it would be stretched to fit within those but nothing has worked so far. Is there no way to do this or am I doing something wrong?
    Thank you for any help you guys can give.

    Of course, sorry about that. So the following is a barebones example of how I currently implement buttons and images as buttons:
    <mx:Button id="facebookButton" icon="@Embed(source='image.png')" width="30"/>
    <mx:Image buttonMode="true" id="button" source="anotherimage.png" enabled="true" click="{foo()}"/>
    And within the image I've tried making the tabFocusEnabled property true but to no avail.
    The following is how I've tried stretching out an image across the whole page:
    <mx:Image source="yetanotherimage.png" width="100%" scaleContent="true"/>
    <mx:Image source="yetanotherimage.png" left="10" right="10" scaleContent="true"/>
    Is this more helpful?

  • Image resize is less than acceptable

    I really like Motion, but am dissapointed in its ability to resize image elements. When you get down to a small percentage the quality goes downhill. I'm guessing that the resampling is not the best. On a PSA tag I wanted a logo to start at bug size and then come up to around 45% at the end of the spot. Resizing a 720 x 480 PSD file to 22% left the image very aliased. I tried the same layout in FCP and in Boris Red with superior results. I have posted the results here:
    www.leebergermedia.com/compare.htm
    I tried different image formats with the same results. Anyone else having this issue? I'll post this in Apple feedback as well.

    Under Project Properties, have you tried setting your Render Settings to Antialiasing Method: Best with the Use dithering checked?

  • Rotate Image Created with createImage() ?

    I've been looking around online for a way to do this, but so far the only things I have found are 50+ lines of code. Surely there is a simple way to rotate an image created with the createImage() function?
    Here's some example code with all the tedious stuff already written. Can someone show me a simple way to rotate my image?
