Image with jdeveloper

Question

when i use an image it works only by using a full source path.
Why it doesn't work using simply the filename myimage.gif located in the default package ?
image = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getImage "C:\\myimage.gif");
MediaTracker m = new MediaTracker(this);
With imageIcon's i can use a class path, but not with with Image-Objects
ImageIcon myImage = new ImageIcon(theclass.class.getResource "myImage.gif"));

but when the image is used in a try catch block and not in the package a NullPointerException ..Uncaught error fetching image is generated. Why ?

Image image = tool.getImage(myClass.class.getResource("myImage.gif"));
m.addImage(image, 0);
m.waitForAll(); }
