Images broken in Design View, but work in Live View

Dear Adobe,
it appears that externally hosted images are not showing in the Design or Split screen view, but have no trouble showing in the Live view. I have had this error since fresh installing DW CC 2014 and had no issue with previous versions of DW. I have tried some of the options suggested around the web including reinstalling but the problem persists.
Please someone tell me there is a solution to this problem as I could never image that something so simple could take me to the edge of my nerves. I am experiencing a drop in productivity since I am constantly switching between views and it's making the whole DW experience a drag as well since there is a sluggish lag when switching views.
Sorry for the rant, hope you guys could help me out here
Mitts64

The display of externally hosted images has been problematic, and somewhat intermittent, in DW's Design View for a long time. A lot of us just work with local versions of the images (say for html emails) and switch out the local links out for absolute links to server hosted images as the last step using Find & Replace.
I have pretty much stopped using Design View all together though and do most of my coding manually while Live View is turned on, so I'm not sure if this was supposed to be fixed in DWCC 2014 or not.

  • Images broken in design view on new computer paths leading to old harddrive?

I recently got a new imac and installed cs5 dreamweaver ( I was using dreamweaver 8 but it no longer works in mountain lion) . I redfined the site all was fine then I must have done something and now suddenly all my images are broken in design view and in brower and live view! The site shows the images online from the server but everything is broken in design view. The directory is a mess as I used way too may subfolders when I first did the site but it's too large to start over. I tried deleting the site from my harddrive all together and creating a new folder for it and just getting the entire site from the server but the images still don't show. I don't want to have to go to every page on the site and fix broken links! I can pull an image into a page by browsing to the folder on my harddrive but they are not appearing anymore on their own. If the images were uploaded originally from another computer and the folder being used now for the site on my harddrive is different that won't break the image paths will it? It all worked fine until a few days ago. What I don't understand is I thought the images wouldn't show if they were only on the server and not on my harddrive but since I just GOT the site from the server, all the images ARE now on my harddrive in the new folder so why still nothing showing? I I tried right clicking the broken images and showing design notes they seem to be lookin for a path to my old computer where the harddrive was named differently than it is now. Is there ANY way to fix this? What about renaming my harddrive to the old name?
Greatful for any advice but I am very much a newbie so not sure I will be able to do what I need to.

Spaces in folder/filenames are not a good practice.  Space are converted to %20 on the server.  DW's Design View often can't reconcile this.  Best advice is to remove the spaces and use underscores _ or hyphens -
    Rename this:
    http://www.thedqtimes.com/Jane_site/Lake%20Effects/lakeeffectsjdaughters.jpg
    http://www.thedqtimes.com/Becky%20H%20stories/Untitled-1.jpg
    To this:
    http://www.thedqtimes.com/Jane_site/Lake_Effects/lakeeffectsjdaughters.jpg
    http://www.thedqtimes.com/Becky_H_stories/Untitled-1.jpg
Also, you have a misplaced <head> tag.  It needs to be above the Dynamic drive Javascript code.
    <head>
         <script> </script>
         <style> <style>
    </head>
Some pages are missing an HTML doc type declaration.  This sends browsers into Quirks Mode.

  • CSS rules show up in design mode, but not in live or in browser.

So some rules work in the browser some appear when in design mode, but not in live mode or in the browser.
In one case there is no competing rules I applied background color and border color to a dynamic table and I see the colors in design view.  In another there is a competing rule, but the one that wins is #content, when the rule I want #content #footer p is (obviously) a compound and at the bottom of the rules.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

AH In preparing my stylesheet to show you, I noticed the rule above those two was missing it's ending curly brace. Problem solved! That's what I get for checking code when I am sleepy!

  • Images Missing In Design view

    Hello,
I am hoping to get some advice fixing the following DW
    problem:
In WYSIWYG mode I can’t view any images while trying to
modify a .ASP page. I can see the code via code view. But
can’t see anything in the design view on my default.asp page.
I can see other pages correctly, with the exception of the
    header include.
I seem to have had this issue in the past, like maybe with
Dreamweaver 3. I forgot what my settings fix was.
I have double checked with my work mates Dreamweaver CS2
settings. And we matchup perfectly with the exception that his
    works and mine does not.
Help, I am running out of hair to pull out.
    Thanks!

We operate off of a network drive so we can all see the same
files. We use checkout to keep from over writing each other. We
then have a staging server that we upload the files to to test.
Then we can deploy to a our live servers.
All of the code base has worked with no issues since 2000.
This includes our use of includes and our folder paths.
The only thing that is different is that I wiped the computer
I am currently using, which up until a week ago was using DW8, did
a clean install of the windows package, installed my licensed copy
of CS3 design studio, and completed all of the Adobe updates up
    until yesterday.
We are using links relative to document. I have tried setting
it to site root, but that had no effect.
I have been using and setting up multiple .asp websites using
Dreamweaver since v3/UltraDev. I have also got a licensed copy of
CS3 on my notebook computer and do not have these issues.
I am thinking that I should un-install and do a clean
reinstall and see what that does.
There are some threads around the internet that my buddy
found that said to turn on DW8 then turn on DW9, it may take a few
times, but they got it to display the bits I am missing. I think
this is kinda cheesy, but I guess if it works...

  • Background Image Disappears in Design View

Hi, I am new to website design and just recently the background image stopped showing up in design view.  When I switch to live view and check in the browser though the background shows up again.  It used to work before but it just stopped working recently.  I have been trying to find a solution but it has not been working out.  If anyone has any ideas as to what could fix my problem, it would be greatly appreciated.
    Here is my css
    @charset "UTF-8";

              margin-right: 60px;
              font-size: 18px;
              text-align: center;
When i turn it on live view it is also formatted correctly and everything.  But when it is on just design or split view the text and all of the pictures don't follow any of the css.

  • Image missing from design view

Hi. In DW CS4 on XP.
I have an image that is missing in my design view from DW. It shows up in the live view, but when I select it I cannot get the option to change the image.
I do not want to change the image in the code. It is not loading my new picture under the same filename for some reason.
I have all the visual aids shown except the first 2 listed: CSS layout backgrounds & box models.
I tired selecting all over the table this page is designed in. I cannot seem to select that picture missing. Right now it is a missing link & usually I am able to click the missing link box. I even tried opening it up in DW 8, but I am not even able to select the box, but at least I see it.
    Please help if you can.
    Thanks.

I would have said "Try renaming the folder containing the images in Rh's Project Manager. That sometimes fixes the problem. You can revert to the old name afterwards."
Keeping all the images, and / or topics, in the root is never a good idea. It can slow things down and it's messy.
You can move the images you can see but obviously you cannot move the others. Try moving a topic that has one of the images to a different folder and see if that refreshes. Also try deleting the CPD file and reopening Rh.
    Backup first.

  • How to view correct image dimensions in design view?

I am new to Dreamweaver cs6. In previous version, the dimensions of an image is directly reflected in the design view. Now it doesnt appear to do so. Does anyone know if there is a setting to fix this? It looks fine when I preview in the browser, but I'd like to see how my page elements fit together in the design view. Any suggestions?

Here is the code for a similar example:
      <td width="409" height="37"><img width="409" height="1" border="0" style="display:block; line-height:0;" src="http://offers2.compuware.com/rs/compuware/images/spacer.png" alt=""></td>
Although the height is set to 1, it is showing a height much larger than that (in both the design view and browser preview)
Thanks! I really appreciate the help.

  • Style changes show in Design mode but not in Live View or online.

I'm using CS5. I modified a style sheet and the changes showed up in Design mode just the way I wanted them. I switched to Live View and they did not show up. I put the new style sheet on the server and it the changes do not show up online. The basic change was to add a border around some text that serves as a link to another page in the site. • Handoff broken in Public Release, but works in Beta. Help?

I have a partitioned drive; one that was strictly a Yosemite beta install, and my day-to-day work machine that had been in working order.

  • Why doesn't Auto Suggest work in IE but works in Live View?

Hi, In Dreamweaver CS5 I have created a simple test page for the Auto Suggest widget using a second page containing the data in an HTML table.  The Auto Suggest works perfectly when viewed in the Dreamweaver Live View and Multi Screen View. However, when i view the test page in IE8 the widget doesn't work and there is the small 'Done' with the yellow triangle and exclamation mark in the bottom left indicating a script error.
Any ideas what's the problem - presumably with IE?
    Thanks

Thanks.  I have posted the test page to

I would be happy to receive a link to a sample that works.

  • Email doesn't work on Z10 when sending attachment after software update on Telus, Gmail but works on live.ca

Having my Telus email refusing to send attachment (one meg picture), without attachment everything is OK, can receive attachments.  Weird thing is my live.ca account works perfectly.  All that happens is the clock and sending icon would alternate (left it for a couple of hours - still the same). Same result using Wi-Fi or LTE, 4G. So called tech support @ Telus and they have no solution and have two Z10 with same problem sending attachment but on Gmail account.  They are sending a ticket to Blackberry to see if problem can be resolved.
Emails were working perfectly before software ugrade three days ago. Anyone else having these issues?  Ideas to resolve?

FINALLY, after TWO full months of waiting and checking every day, the problem has been resolved.  I'm disappointed that Blackberry took so long to fix, but happy that my email can finally send attachments. Also disappointed that I was not notified of the fix by my provider Telus (which they said they would). Hopefully the problem is permanently resolved and won't re-appear after another software update.

  • CS5 Design View: local page + images on server - images don't display

I've recently upgraded to DW CS5. I sometimes have occasion to design pages containing images that are on the server.
In DW8, images on the server would display in Design View.
In DW CS5, images on the server display a broken image icon in Design View.
Yes, I know I can switch to Live View, but I'd rather not, as I find Live View very difficult to edit in (if at all; I can somewhat edit in the code, but what's the point?). I'd far rather be able to see the images as I'm writing the page in Design View.
Am I missing some setting somewhere, or is this the way it is?

Thanks so much for this. Really appreciated.
Used to be under the Commands menu long ago. Obviously relocated to the View menu.
That means that Adobe's own online Help docs for CS5 are incorrect.

Note: When inserting images it’s also possible to use an absolute path to an image that resides on a remote server (i.e., an image that is not available on the local hard drive). If you experience performance problems while working, however, you might want to disable viewing the image in Design view by deselecting Commands > Display External Files.

  • Quickie: Design view not working

    Hi all,
Not sure why, but design view (non-live) just shows a grey panel, or white if I focus on it.
If I turn Live View on, I can see everything but not edit it obviously. Split code/design doesn't work unless Live View is turned on.
No idea why this is, I'm an occassional user of DW (CS6 Win7). This is a site which I've created, edited and published before all on the same workstation.
    Thanks in advance,
    Simon.

First, validate your HTML and CSS code.  Fix any reported errors.  CS6 Design View is much less forgiving of coding errors than earlier versions were.  A blank screen can be caused by missing semi-colons in your CSS, orphaned <div> tags, etc..
    Code Validation Tools
    CSS - http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/
    HTML - http://validator.w3.org/
If after cleaning your code you still have problems, upload your page and supporting files to your web server, come back here and post the URL so we can take a look at it.

  • Images broken in DW CS4 LiveView & browser preview.

Hey everyone, need some major help here.
I'm very new to dreamweaver. I am experienced with graphics and art but anything related to code I epicly fail at... So talk with me like I'm three if possible.
I built my first site for my small sword making business recently, and managed to get it on the web:
    http://maddwarfworkshop.com/
I'm happy with the site visually but I know there are some underlying hidden flaws. First being how it functions in DW itself.
I know plenty of people run into the issue of not being able to see their images while in design view, but mine is the exact opposite.
My images show up as a tiny blue question mark box in Live View... As well as when I preview it in a browser localy on my machine.
I think I know why it might be happening but dont know how to fix it...
When I insert an image DW codes it as such:
    <img src="/images/madintro.jpg" width="470" height="267" />
The problem seems to lie in DW adding the "/" in front of "images"
when I manually go in and take out the "/" the image shows magically shows up as it should.
Why has dreamweaver suddenly defaulted to making bad code? what did I do to cause this issue? And obviously how can I change it back to work again and make the image show in my DW workspace?
I'm sure it lies in my crappy knowledge of understanding how to use templates.
    Also..
If anyone could I would love a comrehensive critique of the site I built and how to clean it up, how to make the code right, and get things working as they should to propor standards.
Here is the code for the homepage:

I know its kinda a lot to ask but I know zero people in person who can help me, and am extremely desperate and absolutely obsessed with making this site the very best I am capable of.
Any resources, videos, tips, whatever would be beyond appreciated!...
    Thank you so much!

Why has dreamweaver suddenly defaulted to making bad code? what did I do to cause this issue? And obviously how can I change it back to work again and make the image show in my DW workspace?
Yes, the slash is exactly the problem. That is known as a Site-root relative link. These types of link are good to use in Templates because they are always the same. They don't need to be "fixed' when you generate a page from your Template into a different folder.
The downside of using Site-root reltive links, is that you can't access the files locally. You must get the page from a web server. One exception to that is using Preview in Browser (PIB) "Temp" files.
Read this Tech Note about setting up a Testing Server so you can see these files in Live View and PIB:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/dreamweaver/2008/12/live_view_and_siteroot_relativ.html
If you want to switch back to using Document relative links, then setthe Relative to: field to be "Document" in the "Browse for file" dialog (folder button next to Link field in PI). This setting is sticky, so all future link will use the same setting.
    Hope this helps,
    Randy
