Images from URL in TileList, from Actionscript

This seems like it should be simple (and I've searched around lots), but no image is displayed, and no error is given:
in the App I have:
<mx:TileList id="friendstlist"></mx:TileList>
and then in some code:
var friendsarr:Array = new Array();
friendsarr[0] = {label:"name", source: "http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2468/3538077022_056014e0bd.jpg"};
friendstlist.dataProvider = friendsarr;
The name displays fine, but no sign of an image : (
Thanks for any help!

You need to use an itemRenderer to display your image and image name in the tile list. Here is one example:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<mx:VBox xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" fontSize="12" height="180" width="210"
    horizontalScrollPolicy="off" verticalScrollPolicy="off" horizontalAlign="center" >
<mx:Script>
    <![CDATA[
        [Bindable] public var src:String;
        [Bindable] public var media_label:String;
            override public function set data(value:Object):void {
                if(value != null)  {
                    super.data = value;
                    this.toolTip = data.media_size + 'Kb\r' + data.media_date;
                    media_label = data.media_name;
                    src = data.media_source;
                super.invalidateDisplayList();
    ]]>
</mx:Script>
    <mx:Image id="img" source="{src}"
        maxWidth="200" maxHeight="150"/>
    <mx:Label text="{media_label}" maxWidth="200"/>
</mx:VBox>
This example assumes that the tileList has an ArrayCollection as a dataProvider with each object having media_size, media_date, media_name, and media_source properties.

  • "Rough" GIF export from ActionScript 3 files impossible?

    Hello,
    I just upgraded from Flash CS3 to Flash CS5, and I've been playing with the various new features. However, I've just encountered an odd problem that I can't seem to find a solution to.
    In the past, I've made animated GIFs in CS3 by exporting them with the "Smooth" box unchecked. This was really convenient for me because not only could I export crisp pixel bitmaps from Flash, but I could edit it in another program later. I was planning on making some GIF animations via this process with the aid of the bone tool in CS4 and 5.
    When I tried exporting frames of of a figure created with the bone tool in CS5, however, I got images that were fuzzy and often had distorted colors. After some time, I realized that this was because in CS3, I had exported the images from ActionScript 2 files, while the bone tool only works in ActionScript 3 files.
    Is it not possible to export "rough" GIFs from ActionScript 3 files, or is there a trick to doing that that I'm somehow missing?

    I'm sorry for not making it clear in my initial post, but it doesn't matter whether I create an image using the bone tool or not -- any GIF image exported from an AS3 file always has an antialiased appearance, even when the Smooth box is unchecked.
    To show you what I mean, here's a simple GIF image I exported from an AS2 file:
    Notice that all of the lines are simple and pixellated, with no antialiasing at all. This is the kind of GIF I want to export from an AS3 file.
    Now here's the exact same image I exported from an AS3 file, with the exact same export settings:
    As you can see, all of the lines look smoothed, even though I made sure the Smooth box was unchecked.
    Is there anything I can do to correct this problem?

  • How to display URL images and URL link (html) from Smartforms?

    Hi Gurus,
    I'm having difficulty on how to display targeted URL images and URL link from the smartforms, after i sending it out as html mail. The mail i sent just can be preview as a plain text, which can't execute the html code that i put inside the smartforms itself. I follow a few step from this very useful blog.. Hopefully, you guys can give me some solutions or ideas on this.

    1- put your images in a directory under the web app directory. Example: app/images/
    2- in your jsp, use: String file = application.getRealPath("/images/"); to get the images directory. See http://java.sun.com/j2ee/sdk_1.3/techdocs/api/javax/servlet/ServletContext.html#getRealPath(java.lang.String)
    3- it's not the right forum to post this kind of question. Post them in the JSP/Servlet JSTL forum instead

  • Displaying an image from a URL

    I have a program which visits a html page and creates a JComboBox with all the images from that page. When the user selects an image from the combo box it displays that image in a JLabel. This works fine with images that exist, when I try it with an image that doesn't exist I want it to realise that and display a message saying that "the image cannot be found". Heres part of my code that handles the selection:
    public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent f) {
                        JComboBox cb = (JComboBox)f.getSource();
                        String imageName = (String)cb.getSelectedItem();
                        try {
                             imageUrl = new URL(imageName);
                        catch (MalformedURLException ex) {
                             System.out.println("Image Collection Error: " + ex);
                        catch (Exception e) {
                             System.out.println("Some sort of exception: " + e);
                        picture.setIcon(new ImageIcon(imageUrl));
              });When I select a bad link image from the list I was hoping the catch blocks would trap it and I could make adjustments accordingly, this does not happen. No exception is thrown at all.
    Any ideas of what I can do??
    Bow_wow.

    Thanks for your help, I have changed it to the following code:
    ImageIcon imageToDisplay = new ImageIcon(imageUrl);
                        ImageIcon badImage = new ImageIcon("logo.jpg"); // An image I know exists
                        int status = imageToDisplay.getImageLoadStatus();
                        if (status == MediaTracker.COMPLETE) {
                             picture.setIcon(imageToDisplay);
                        else {
                             picture.setIcon(badImage);
                        }It works now, thanks again for your help!

  • [noob needs help] Loading image from a URL

    Hey everyone. I'm new here. And I'm new at J2ME as well.
    I have a simple school project and I have doubts about it. I've searched everywhere on the net yet I could not find the solution. Anyways, I do understand the concept of loading images by putting the files in the "res" folder and use:
    try
    img = Image.createImage("/burgerimgsmall.jpg");
    catch (Exception e)
    e.printStackTrace();
    But my project requires me to load an image from a URL. How do I go about doing that? If it helps, here's the URL:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v703/punkgila/burgerimgsmall.jpg
    Thanks guys!

    Don't worry, downloading image from http is also simple. Look into Photoalbum demo in wtk2.5

    public Image loadURL()
         Image image = null;
         try
              URL url = new URL(UrlLocation);
              image = ImageIO.read(url);
              File2 = url.toString();
         catch (IOException e)
              e.printStackTrace();
         return image;
    public void saveImage(String ImageType)
              try
                   FileDialog openfiledialog = new FileDialog(new Frame(),
                   "Please choose Image to save",FileDialog.SAVE);
                   openfiledialog.setVisible(true);
                   if (openfiledialog.getFile() != null)
                        File file = new File(openfiledialog.getDirectory(),
                        openfiledialog.getFile() + "." + ImageType);
                            File outputfile = file;
                        ImageIO.write(out, ImageType, outputfile);
              catch (IOException e)
                   e.printStackTrace();
         }

    Umm, you need to actually read the image bytes from the external webserver. It will do you good to read the javadoc for URLConnection (retrieved through URL). You can read an InputStream from it, and then you can for example put what you read into an ByteArrayOutputStream. You can ask this output stream for a byte array containing what has been written to it, and then you can write this byte array into a FileOutputStream. There may be ways to make this more effective, but these steps are essentially what should happen to solve your problem.

  • I want to download an image from the url and image is in byte format

    hi
    i want to download an image from the url
    http://www.tidelinesonline.com/mobile/j2me_v1?reqType=imageJoin&imageCount=1&month=1&day=1&year=2008&id=1&imageWidth=230&imageHeight=216&imageDepth=8&imageUnits=feet&imageType=JPG&msisdn=456
    first 5 digits will be the length of the image,we need to download except first 5 digits and display an image file
    i need to finish this today
    pla reply if any body knows solution for this.
    thanks in advance
    Mraj

    You do not need to do anything - iPhoto always keeps the original and you can revert to it at any time
    If you want to be able to see the original and the cropped version in iPhoto at the same time duplicate the photo (this does not really duplicate but simply starts a new edit stream for the photo - command-d) and crop the duplicate

  • Multiple images from static URL

    I am currently writing an applet that grabs radar images from a static URL. The image on the URL is updated every 15 minutes. I have a timer that will grab the image every 15 minutes and put it in an image[] array. Eventually I will be looping these images, and let the user define how far back to loop and how fast the loop is. Right now, though, every image it grabs is the same as the very first one. For testing purposes I have the URL currently set to an online panda cam with a timestamp (so I dont have to wait 30 minutes every build to see if it works on the radar URL). If I start the program at 12:47:51(timestamp on webcam) , it grabs a new image every 10 seconds. After a few minutes I have an array of images with the timestamp 12:47:51, every image is identical.

    well, I have the url
    "url"
    and the image[] array
    "imageArray[x]"
    in the actionPerformed for the timer:
    imageArray[x] = getImage(url); Currently I just have a button to step thru the images.
                        backg.drawImage(imageArray[counter],0,0,radarWidth,radarHeight,Color.white,this);Just to see if that worked I loaded the array with images from different URLs, and I was able to display them all without problem. Just when I use the static URL do I get the problem of the repeated image.

  • Reading images from URL without knowing the format

    I have an image url like this: http://example.com/image.php?id=5605. How do I get the actual image from such an URL? I have tried using ImageIO.read and loading the url directly into an ImageIcon without success.

    yeah,
    I knew a little about linearization and but the idea was to help quick loading the very first page of a document while the rest of the data still is arriving. Not exactly what I needed here.
    Anyway, you have just confirmed my fears, I will have to know the document size, where exactly it ends on my stream, in order to correctly load it.
    I appreciate your help sir. Thanks for your time.
    Best regards.

  • Download Images from URL

    I want to save images to memory 50 images
    My software processing ----
    1. Download Image from URL every 60 secs and all downloaded images have time to use 15 mins
    2. When download image done save images to memory
    3. Then show images in picturebox
    4. When user click button get next image form memory and delete old image from memory
    5. If what images not use in 15 mins auto delete from memory
    Help me ... Thank you a lot

    Ok chechk the below method/Events that will download 50 image and fill a List<image> object into memory, you need to add a picturebox1 and button1 to your form, I used my profile pic here on msdn the link you've send didn't work:
    //Global Variables
    List<Image> li = new List<Image>();
    int second = 0; //Form Initaile
    public Captcha()
    InitializeComponent();
    //Async download event
    private void ReadCallback(IAsyncResult asynchronousResult)
    HttpWebRequest request = (HttpWebRequest)asynchronousResult.AsyncState;
    HttpWebResponse response = (HttpWebResponse)request.EndGetResponse(asynchronousResult);
    using (StreamReader streamReader1 = new StreamReader(response.GetResponseStream()))
    li.Add(Image.FromStream(streamReader1.BaseStream));
    pictureBox1.Image = li[0];
    //Download Method for 50 images
    private void DownLoadImages()
    try
    for (int i = 0; i <= 50; i++)
    HttpWebRequest request = (HttpWebRequest)HttpWebRequest.Create(new Uri("https://i1.social.s-msft.com/profile/u/avatar.jpg?displayname=fouad%20roumieh&size=extralarge&version=00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000"));
    request.BeginGetResponse(new AsyncCallback(ReadCallback), request);
    catch (WebException ex)
    //Form Load
    private void Captcha_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
    DownLoadImages();
    And here on button click event we remove element and show the next one into picture box, and if used up all image we call the async download messages again to get a new list of images:
    private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
    li.RemoveAt(0);
    if (li.Count > 0)
    { //Show next
    pictureBox1.Image = li[0];
    else
    DownLoadImages();
    Also here a timer event I didn't enable but you can enable to check for the 15 mins and destroy the images list if passed:
    private void timer1_Tick(object sender, EventArgs e)
    second = second + 1;
    int minutes = second / 60;
    if (minutes >= 15)
    li.Clear();
    //Call downloadimages or else...

  • Downloading images from URL

    Hi All,
    I am trying to write code to download images from given URL. My application will take URLs by querying sql server, will pass that URL to my method and download images to a specific folder. There will be almost 400 images a day to download. I figured out some options like getImage(). But I would like to get idea from you to find the most efficient way to do this.
    Here is the initial code I have come up with
    private void downloadimage() throws Exception {
              String sql = "SET NOCOUNT ON SELECT DISTINCT activation_group_id FROM ACTIVATION_GROUP";
              JdoServer jdo = JdoServer.getInstance(dbKey);
              RowSet rs = jdo.getRowSet(sql);
              while (rs.next())
                   //will fetch URL from rs here, currently passing hardcoded URL for testing purpose.
                   // Get the image
                   MediaTracker tracker;
                   tracker = new MediaTracker(this);
                   Toolkit toolkit = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit();
                   Image image = toolkit.getImage(new URL ("http://digitalcontent.cnetchannel.com/70/e1/70e18a07-7356-4a54-8498-1493da1dec3d.jpg"));
                   tracker.addImage(image, 0);
    Somehow, tracker = new MediaTracker(this) is giving me the consstructor mediatracker(myclassname) not defined error.
    I am a recent graduate and it's my first project... any help would be appreciated :)
    Thanks

    Ok, here is the update... I have tried something new which is here...

  • Download images from a URL

    Hello,
    I was wondering if it is somehow possible to download all the images from a page located at a given URL? Any pointers?
    Thanks,

    One way to get the images on a page is:
    1. Get the page HTML. (E.g. using [Apache HTTP Client|http://hc.apache.org/httpclient-3.x/] )
    2. Look for <img src=".." ..> tags in the HTML and construct the full URL of images.
    3. For each image URL found above, get the image from server
