Images with embedded hyperlinks do not function in Yosemite Mail

I'm running Yosemite 10.10.2 on a 2012 iMac.
I send out a newsletter with images and hyperlinks embedded in those images. You click on an image, and your browser takes to to a specified web location.
In Yosemite, Mail allows you to embed hyperlinks in an image... just highlight the image, press Command K and enter the link.
The link even shows up when you hover the mouse over the image, but...
No users of Yosemite that receive my newsletter can click on an image and activate the hyperlink.
This worked fine in other versions of OS X.
Any help here would be appreciated.
I'm at a loss to understand why one of the most important and basic programs in Apples OS X, has such a glaring flaw.
Thanks
John C

There is an issue with Cmd-K in Mail when used with certain URI, which may explain why some have not encountered a problem.
If the link you are pasting contains characters that need to be "escaped" (such as the hash, #), Cmd-K strips the escaped characters, and replaces them with the naked character.
Cmd-K converts
this 'escaped' link:  http://foo.com/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=%2fMapping+Audit+%232
into:  http://foo.com/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=/Mapping+Audit+#2. Because # is a reserved character in the attributes, and is no longer escaped, the link will fail.
Directly pasting the escaped link into Mail, without using Cmd-K, will work fine. But that won't help if you want to add a link to an image or other text.
Best to change the the name of the linked item, if possible, so it does not use a reserved character.

  • My book was rejected for containing images with embedded text. Does Apple not make exceptions for graphic novels, etc.?

    I created my first book with iBooks Author, and am trying to publish it as a paid book in the iBookstore. It is a book of writing and photography, and each page contains one or more photographs. Some of the photographs are of handwritten notebook pages, and these are an essential and expressive part of the book. The handwritten notes were written when taking the photographs, and the book is a thoughtful visual journal about walking and photography. Replacing the handwriting with typewritten text would not work at all.
    However, Apple rejected my book because "Embedding text in images creates issues that cause a large number of customer complaints."
    I understand the reasoning behind this requirement, and certainly it is appropriate for most books. But does Apple make exceptions for books that need to present text visually? I would call my book an "artist's book", but it could be thought of as a graphic novel. Surely there are other books besides mine that require text embedded in images.

    This sounds like something you have to take up with Apple directly rather than here in the user/user forums.  You might want to try the contacts listed at the bottom of the FAQ:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/content-providers/book-faq.html
    It might be helpful to find some things in the store yourself that demonstrate such exceptions, so you can ask for equal treatment.

  • Some hyperlinks do not function with FF 29.0.1 vista

    OS VISTA
    Firefox ver. 29.0.1
    Some links on some websites (eg. www.change.org) do not respond when clicked. (Others do.)
    Some objects on these pages do not function (eg. "thermometer" progress bar and "Sign" button)
    Pages work under Internet Explorer. (copy from FF address bar to IE address bar)
    Site used to work under FF 28. Site did not work with FF 29.0.
    Still using same add-ons as with FF 28 except added The Add-on Bar.
    No prefs changed.
    OS fully up to date.
    Adobe software fully up to date.

    The sign button appears, but it isn't active for 30 seconds, at least in my test. The page loads scripts from several additional sites during that process.
    To determine whether any of your extensions is involved, could you test some of the problem sites in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
    You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still run
    After Firefox shuts down, a small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset).
    Any difference?

  • Hyperlinks Are Not Functioning Correctly

    I have a problem with the some of the hyperlinks in my
    WebHelp Pro project not functioning correctly once the project is
    compiled. What happens is that when I click on a hyperlink the text
    doesn't change from blue to purple. Not all the hyperlinks on a
    page are affected; some may work while others do not.
    When I look at the HTML code, I see two different things
    happening, and both things may not occur in the same code:
    1) In some documents the code reads "a visited=0000ff." The
    value should be 800080.
    2) In other documents "font color=blue" is being added to the
    HTML code for a particular hyperlink. Other hyperlink code in the
    same document may be unaffected.
    I have checked the font color in the editor to make sure it
    was set to "automatic" before I created the hyperlink. I removed
    the hyperlinks altogether, recompiled, then opened the document
    back up and recreated the hyperlinks. The problem still exists.
    Every document in my project is using the default.css style sheet.
    I use the same paragraph style throughout the project, both on the
    links that work correctly and those that do not.
    Has anyone ever experienced this problem? And if so, do you
    know the fix? I could manually edit the HTML code before publishing
    my project, but that is just a bandaid fix.

    The hyperlink color is controlled by the style sheet. I edit
    my style sheets in a text editor. Make sure you clear your browser
    history before testing the color changes.
    FWIW, I like my links to stay blue--I usually have the color
    change to purple in hover just to indicate that what is moused is
    indeed a viable link.

  • Images with Picture Frame stroke not printing?

    Does anyone have a known solution to an issue in which an image with a stroke of "Picture Frame" applied will not print?
    More details...
    - Created pages document (originally in '08 version of Pages, then upgraded to Pages '09 to see if that fixed it -- it did not)
    - Printed document in both both Pages version. All assets within document printed correctly with exception of photos that have stroke of "Picture Frame" applied.
    - Printed to PDF. Opened and printed from Preview. Again, all assets within document printed correctly with exception of photos with stroke of "Picture Frame."
    - Tried modifying print settings to "fit in page" as well as color correction. Same symptoms applied.
    - One solution (that's not the desired behavior but should be acknowledged) -- removing stroke allows images to print.
    Other:
    - Problem is reproducible across both versions of pages.
    - Problem may be same as seen in other searches found here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3005994?start=0&tstart=0 & here: http://forums.cnet.com/7723-21571_102-378574/pages-09-printing-problem/ & here: http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/images-graphic-design-digital-photography/23980 6-framed-pictures-wont-print-iwork-pages.html
    Set-up:
    - iMac running 10.7.3
    - Started with iWork '08, updated to Pages '09
    - HP LaserJet CP1025nw
    Any advice much appreciated!

    Thanks for all your help, fruhulda.
    Tried:
    deleting plist
    uninstalling Pages
    trying a different account
    updating firmware
    trying a different printer
    The only thing that works -- which also worked for you -- was something other than this printer. And even with a firmware update, it's not working.
    I'd say this is an HP CP1025nw problem, which kind of hurts given it's a newer printer for us.
    Suppose it's best to consider this closed and unsolved.

  • Wrapping an Image with a Hyperlink Dynamically

    I am looking for some help on how to use Creator components, and maybe a little HTML.
    I have an image on my page that would like to use as a hyperlinked image sometimes and the rest of the time I would like it to just be a simple image. I have tried wrapping the image in a Hyperlink component and a Link Action component, but the only way that I've come up with to disable the links is to set the rendered property to false. However, when you do this Creator considers these two components as containers and also fails to render the wrapped image.
    I guess that I could use 2 simple Output Text components on either side of my image and write the HTML directly to accomplish this. This doesn't seem like a very clean solution, though. How else can I solve this? Does JSF offer a more elegant solution to my problem?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    In Creator 1 it is a bit of a jugglery act to have an image act as a hyperlink at times and just as an image at others. Here is what I would try, have two image components, one is inside the hyperlink and the other outside. Alternately set the rendered property to true / false to them according to the condition. Also I would have both of them in a group panel.
    Incidentally a component called Image hyperlink is available in Creator 2 EA 2. This has a disbaled property which makes it easier to do what you are looking for.
    Hope this helps
    Cheers

  • Method needed to combine 50+ images with same background. Not a portrait.

    Hello,
    Here is what I want to do. I have taken about 50 images of people walking in a heavily trafficked area. I want to have all the people added together into one image. Each person is to have full opacity.
    I started by making an image with no one in the scene using the Median blend mode with a layer stack to remove all the people. Worked fine. Now, I am hoping there is some way to create masks or knockouts of the people in each of the individual images by somehow comparing them to the scene with no people. Some way to mask out or knock out those areas which are different, i.e. the people. I will then stack all the images of the people on top of one another to create a very complicated image showing the volume of traffic.
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Using CS3.
    Best regards, Seder

    Difference blendmode. Put the people on your clean BG, switch the mode. Flatten the result, use adjustments to properly make it b/w. Select all, insert as custom channel or into an existing layer mask to get the transparency. If the photos were shot under same lighting conditions, you could even create an action for it to easily repeat all steps.

  • The option to add a hyperlink to a text or image is greyed out and not functional.  How do I fix this?

    The option to add a hyperlink to text or an image in pages is greyed out.  How do I fix this?

    Peter is correct. However, one can clever up two overlayed, grouped Text Box and simulate a hyperlinked image that can be placed in the document body with text flowing around the image. Moving the image requires temporarily turning off the hyperlink in the Link inspector. Example was Pages ’09 v4.3 on OS X 10.8.4.
    Steps:
    From the Pages Toolbar, select Text Box twice. The Text Box will be slightly offset. Select and drag the offset one to just above the centered one.
    Click inside the centered Text Box and back out the placeholder text. Now select this Text Box and choose the graphic inspector.
    Choose Fill > Image Fill. Choose your image, and then Scale to Fit the entire Text Box.
    From the Pages arrange menu, choose Make Background Objects Selectable, and Send Object to Background.
    In the Wrap inspector, select Object Causes Wrap, and your choice there. My example was door #2.
    Click inside your text-only Text Box. Change the placeholder text to three instances of the capital letter ‘O.’
    Launch the Font panel (command+T).
    Manually change the font size to 92 points. This just fits a default Text Box size without wrapping. I used Times New Roman Regular.
    Select the text, and with the Link inspector, enable your choice of hyperlink, and also disable it (for now) with the “Make all hyperlinks inactive.”
    With the text still selected, choose Font color from the Font panel. At the bottom of the Color tool, set the Opacity of your text to zero.
    Drag the transparent text-only Text Box exactly over the top of your image Text Box. Use the blue guides.
    From the Pages edit menu, Select All. From the Pages Arrange menu, choose Group.
    Drag the Text Box group where you want it in your document body. Text will flow around it if you used my setting in the Wrap inspector.
    Lastly, with the Text Box group selected, disable “Make all Hyperlinks inactive” in the Link Inspector. You now effectively have a text map overlaying your image and the mouse pointer changes to a hand. The link is now active. Exporting your Pages document to PDF preserves the hyperlinked image effect in both Preview and Acrobat Reader.

  • Hyperlinks do not function properly in Internet Explorer

    I'm having a problem exporting HTML from Muse to a SharePoint folder. I export the Muse files successfully to a SharePoint folder and then can view the Index file or any of hte created HTML pages. My problem is when using Internet Explorer (IE8) specifically, none of the hyperlinks for any placed Photoshop button are clickable. When viewing the same html in FireFox or Chrome, everything functions perfectly. Most, but not all, of the hyperlinks that are just text based seem to be functioning properly in IE. Since this in an interal site for our company, I cannot link to the site, but I can upload a video and/or images if that helps explain. Please advise.

    Hi,
    Thanks for looking into the issue. Let me tell you that I've tried keeping various content-types like text/plain, text/xml etc, but in none of those cases the IE rendered the output properly. But with the same content-type i.e text/html or text/plain, Firefox is able to render the file content properly. I've tried a brutal force approach like below,
    response.setContentType("text/plain");
    PrintWriter out = response.getWriter();
    String str = new String(attachment.getAttachObject());
    char[] buff = str.toCharArray();
    for(i=0;i< buff.length; i++)
    int n = (int)buff;
    if(n == 10)
    out.println();
    else
    out.print(buff[i]);
    out.close();
    I was trying to print a newline whenever I find a newline character in the file content. Even this didn't work. Please suggest me some way to get rid of this problem.

  • PPT with embedded MP4 videos not being improted as a playable video - how can I make the MP$ play as a video?

    I have a PPT slide presentation that has embedded MP4 videos (captured using SnagIt) in the presentation. When I import and convert, all my PPT slides convert with animations intact, but the videos are not playable and appear only as a 'static' slide.... I'm messing around with the trial version of Captivate hoping it can do what I think it can (like what I just described here) and am trying to cost-justify the purchase of this package to my management team -but I have to make sure it can do what we want it to do first - so far, no good - but I think I'm probably just missing something...any tips or suggestions?

    Hi there
    One way to accomplish your goal would be to use what I call: The Camtasia Approach
    Basically you play the presentation and use Captivate to record it. Camtasia operates that way with PPT.

  • Hyperlinks are not functioning after publishing

    I am running iWeb 3.0.4 and am publishing to my host site through GoDaddy.com. The hyperlinks work fine in iWeb itself, but after I publish the site and then go to the site to check it, some hyperlinks work, but most don't. It appears to be very random which hyperlinks are working and which are not. After Enabling hyperlinks in iWeb and checking the box Make hyperlinks active, I am choosing to Link to > One of my pages. All seems to be in order but again, after publishing the site, only some hyperlinks work but most do not. I have tried modifying little things in iWeb to see if it will help upon publishing - over and over and over again - but to no avail. I cannot stress how irritating this problem is, not getting the site to work after publishing!!! UGH!
    I've seen other posts regarding this issue and still have not found an applicable solution or at least one that is fixing my problem. Any other suggestions? Thank you.

    Thank you guys so much - specifically Old Toad, Cyclosaurus and Roddy - for helping me figure out what's wrong with my iWeb site! Just these little things you guys are suggesting are helping me slowly fix these subtle problems. I don't understand why these things that you guys are suggesting aren't explained somewhere in iWeb.
    Because of your help I have been able to most of the hyperlinks to work now, but still not all of them. Still seems like I have to do some tweeking and moving around some of the text. I can't believe how inaccurate and inefficient iWeb is!
    Anyway, Cyclosaurus - is there any way to shrink the size of the Canvas element so that I don't have to keep adjusting the text just to get the hyperlinks to work?
    Thanks again!!

  • External HDD with Partitions not functioning in Yosemite

    I was part of the Public Beta for Yosemite and didn't have any issues. But since upgraded to the full version of Yosemite, by external HDD with 2 partitions (one for files and one for Time Machine) has been acting strangely. I can still access (read/write) the partitions with my files on. But the Time Machine Partition doesn't mount and is greyed out in Disk Utility. I have tried to repair, erase, reformat the drive but none of these options work because it says that it can't access the drive (because it won't mount). I don't have access to a non-Yosemite Mac at the moment, but even so, I still need to use the HDD on my Yosemite Mac. Any suggestions?

    I had exactly the same problem after installing Yosemite.  Had the drive checked out by a local PC repair company who could not find anything wrong with the HD (Segate) but suggested I checkout the warrantee.  I tried using the Apple disk verification and repair tools - hopeless.  So I returned the drive to Seagate who replaced it with another "re-certified" drive.  I was not comfortable with using this as it had (in theory) failed; so might another second hand unit. So I bought a new Western Digital which does the job.  No changes to the operating system needed.
    This leave me with a strange taste in my mouth!
    Was the original drive faulty or not (Seagate didn't tell me what was they simply replaced it)?
    Did Yosemite trash the dish - I will never know?
    Why did the WD HD work and not the Seagate?
    Life is too short - I moved on - but it did cost me over £100 to restore my backup facility for no apparent reason.
    PS the Seagate replacement is now used for backing up a laptop - OS Windows Vista - no problems...........
