IMessage not synching between devices

Ok sorry if this has been asked and answered already but I've had a good look around and haven't been able to solve this problem yet.
I have an ipad1 and an iPhone 3GS both with ios5. I use the iPad most of all and when I send iMessages to my friends. That conversation does not appear on the iPhone. I thought it was supposed to so if you started a conversation on the iPad and left home you could continue it on your phone.
My friend receives the full conversation on his iPad and iPhone.
We've checked and double checked the settings and I'm 99% sure they are correct
Anybody help me
THANKS
MIKE

Thanks for the reply paulcb :)
I managed to sort it by turning iMessage off on all devices and then turning it back on starting with my phone. Once you do that it starts to activate them all.
I then soft resetted my phone and ipad and now all 3 devices are working in harmony once again.

  • Messages not synching between devices

I've currently installed Messages beta, and I thought I would be able to sync the conversations between my computers and my iphone.  However, nothing is synching.  I'm running 10.7.3 and I previoulsly installed Chax.  Even thought Chax is not supported for Lion, I keep getting a notice about ChaxHelperApplications trying to send scripts to iChat whenever I open the app.  Should I be able to sync the conversations between devices?  Is it possible that the Chax scripts are taking away this feature?  Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
Find your Chax.dmg item and run the Installer and chose the Uninstall Option
(You may need to download it again if you did not  keep the .dmg)
Once you have done this go to the Finder > Go Menu and hold the ALT key down and select Library
    Open Preferences
Find com.apple.ichat.plist (this will keep a record that it needs to display the Chax Preference Pane icon and the Preferences)
Drag the .plist to the Trash and restart Messages (Yes Messages still uses that .plist).
This should remove the messages about Chax needing to start.
It should not have effected the ability to sync though.

  • Bookmarks Not Synching Between Devices

My iPad and iPhone are not synching bookmarks. In fact, there were two bookmarks on a novel in my iPhone, and one on my iPad. Today when I looked both to see if they synchronized, I was greeted with only one on my iPhne and none on my iPad. I'm the only one who has access to these devices and I didn't delete them.
So far this doesn't seem to work at all the way Apple advertises ... For now I have to forgo reading the same book on my iPhone and iPad, otherwise I will never know where I left off. Most frustrating. Anybody have a solution to this problem?

  • IMessage not synching between Macbook Pro and iPhone (iOS7) since iOS upgrade.

    The oddest thing happened.
I received a text message from a contact who uses an iPhone (I don't know whether he uses iOS7).
I received the text on my phone.  I then began a full conversation through "iMessage" on my phone.
Then I opened my computer to check something and his next text message popped up on my computer in "Messages".
When I went back to my phone, I noticed that EVERY single speech bubble from his side of the conversation was missing.  On top of that, the next text that I wrote back to him on my iPhone didn't copy over to Messages on my computer.
    What gives?
My text conversations always used to be cloned on both devices.  And the other person's side of the coversation has never been stolen before.
    Thanks

Associate your mobile number with your Apple ID, if you haven't already done so:
    Apple - My Apple ID
Sign out of iMessage on the Mac:
Messages ▹ Preferences ▹ Accounts ▹ Sign out
    Sign out on the iPhone
Settings ▹ Messages ▹ Send & Receive ▹ Apple ID ▹ Sign out
Then, on the phone, tap Use Your Apple ID for iMessage.
Sign back into iMessage on both devices and test.

  • Time not synched between devices

Been noticing lately a big difference between the time my iPhone displays, the time my work mac displays and the time my bosses mac displays. We all have our clocks set automatically (to pacific time), yet there is almost 10 minutes difference between my phone and my power mac, and almost 5 minutes difference between my power mac and my bosses power mac. Any ideas what can be going on here? It's starting to cause problems showing up to meetings on time.

  • IBooks Library not synching between iPad & Macbook Pro

I've loaded PDFs into my iPad and Macbook Pro ibook libraries, but they are not synching between the devices. All synching has been turned on in preferences on my Mac, iTunes and iPad. Any suggestions as to how to get both devices listing same ibook library contents?

Tack on another user.  Annoying to say the least...
Found another thread on another forum that mentioned disabling and re-enabling the "automatically download books" opton under settings / itunes & app stores and after doing that, the two started syncing again even though I don't purchase my books through the itunes store.

addresses and calendar not synching between 3 devices.. phone, iMac and mac book pro.
dates are correct, iCloud is on for those applications. etc.

Your profile shows that you are running OS X 10.6.7.  If that's true, you will need to update a iCloud requires OS X 10.7.5 or later.  If you are running a more recent version of OS X and your data still isn't syncing, check to be sure of the following:
That your Mac and iOS devices are signed into the same iCloud account and have Calendars and Contacts turned on in Settings (System Preferences)>iCloud.
That you have selected iCloud as your Default Account for contacts in Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars on your iOS devices and in Contacts (Address Book)>Preferences>General on your Macs.
That you have selected an iCloud calendar as your Default Calendar in Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars on your iOS devices and in Calendar (iCal)>Preferences>General on your Macs.

  • Sent mail does not sync between devices

My sent mail does not sync between devices. For example, if I send an email from my Iphone it does not show in my sent box on the MAC mail (postage stamp). If I send mail from MAC mail it does not show on my phone.  But if I go to Yahoo (mail) I can see all sent mail.
What am I doing wrong? Is there a setting that allows them to snch sent mail??

From reports on this site, Yahoo mail doesn't work reliably with Mail. The following steps may help.
Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is corrupt and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

    Hello there, Ptrt768.
There is a fair amount of good information in the following Knowledge Base article to help in troubleshooting Reminders:

  • Text messages not synching between my iPad and iPhone

How do I synch the text messages between my iPhone and my iPad. I just sent a text message to an individual using my iPhone 5 and the reply appeared on my iPad only. I also have a whole text conversation sent today that only appears on my iPad and not my iPhone.

    Hi jathom,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you are sending and receiving iMessages as the messages are received on your iPad.
Since these messages are not being received on your iPhone as expected, these steps are a good place to begin troubleshooting:
If you aren't receiving iMessages across all iOS devices
Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive on each iOS device and make sure that you signed in with your Apple ID. You must use the same Apple ID on each device.
Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > You Can Be Reached By iMessage At and make sure that you selected each phone number and email address you want to use with iMessage.
If you linked a phone number to your Apple ID with iMessage and the phone number hasn't appeared, followthese steps.
Sign out of your Apple ID in Settings > Messages > Send & Receive and Settings > FaceTime on all devices.
If you're linking a phone number to an Apple ID, sign in to iMessage on your iPhone first. Then sign in to the rest of your device one by one with iMessage and FaceTime.

    iOS: Troubleshooting Messages

  • Ibooks pdfs do not sync between devices?

Is Ibooks supposed to sync between devices?

Is this really the case? I'm getting more and more disenchanted with my iPad. It's implied in all the advertising that iCloud will 'magically' make sure everything stays synched between your devices. But is it actually true that the pdfs I have saved in a collection on my iPad (which were downloaded from any old website), will not sync to my mac at all? How is this helpful in any way? I've got 'sync all books' selected in itunes on the mac, and 'sync collections' selected in the settings on all my devices.
Edited to add: they don't sync over iCloud or when i have the iPad connected by cable, if that was not clear.
Quite frankly, this is rubbish and in my opinion, blatant false advertising. Is there some annoyingly cumbersome workaround I can use??

  • IMessage not syncing between MacBook and iPhone

Normally, my MacBook Pro (OSX 10.4.9 w/ standard hardware) and my iPhone (iPhone 5 running iOS 7.1.2) sync iMessages perfectly. Recently, I turned my MacBook off for the weekend and was messaging solely through my iPhone. When I turned my MacBook on again and launched iMessage, I noticed that the conversations were not synced between the computer and phone.
I've already tried the fix suggested here, and I got the notification, but the conversations didn't update.
All messages sent since the MacBook was turned on again have synced between both the phone and computer, but messages sent during the weekend only appear on my phone (the device used to send them). Any suggestions?

    Hi,
You are leaving conversation "open" (still displayed) in Messages when you Quit ?
If you closed off all the chats and conversations in Messages you will need to re-connect to the people involved for the app to then display the previous part of the conversation.
