To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

Hi i have a macbook pro retina,,,
i have been using this mac for 4 weeks ,,
in some reason Facebook and twitter booth won't open for two weeks and all of the pages work perfectly fine
i have safari Version 8.0.2 witch is the latest version for now
even google chrome and firefox won't open Facebook and twitter
i have mac os x 10.10.1You have 14 days to return the computer w/no questions asked. Plus you have 90 days of FREE phone tech support on top of your standard 1 year warranty unless you also purchased AppleCare which gives you an additional 2 years of coverage plus FREE phone support.
Strongly suggest that you take FULL advantage of the above before it runs out. Let Apple deal w/the problems. -
I installed the new version thinking it would be the same, It was horrible! uninstalled it... Installed the older version and now it won't open and when I try it says it can't because the library can't open because it was used on a newer version. Come on! I just want my music! How do I open this and get my music back.
I put my Ipod in and it still says the same thing, what's going on? Please help me!I don't know whom to thank first-- b noir for telling me about the Lorraine fix or Lorraine for figuring out the fix. THE LORRAINE FIX WORKED FOR ME!!! (I feel a little like I am advertising "Hooked on Phonics" with that last line!)
Thank you doesn't say it strongly enough, but THANK YOU b noir and Lorraine for your help. I was to the boiling point last night and starting to get there tonight. Now I am resting easy and thankful that there is a community of computer users out there who care enough to troubleshoot problems together and work together to figure out a solution--and then to take the time to post and share information.
I would STRONGLY suggest that anyone who is having the iTunes issues where iTunes just plain won't open at all after downloading the newest version and has a pc with Norton Internet Security 2005 try the "Lorraine Method."
I am so happy I think I might sing. Or not--I will let my songs on iTunes do the singing for me now that I can again!!!!!!!
And to those still looking for answers--be patient--I now know how incredibly frustrating this can be and I hope that you all find your solutions very very soon!!

IMovie and iPhoto updates require another Apple ID: Help?
I recently updated to Maverick, and iMovie and iPhoto required an Apple ID login to update. However, after entering my Apple ID, it then asked for an Apple ID of a user who used to have an account on my Macbook, but it has since been deleted. The Apple ID box is grayed out, so only the other Apple ID will work, and so I can't update with my own ID. I have tried logging out and back in again, but it doesn't change it. Help please???

Hard Drive icon missing - Desktop folders won't open - Need Help!
I need help! I have a 400 MHz PowerPC G4 with 768 MB SDRAM, no DVD drive - was running OS X 10.3.9 quite happily. We became owners of a new iPod Nano - so we had to upgrade to 10.4.
(I'm writing this on my 800 MHz PowerPC G4 with 768 MB SDRAM, (also no DVD drive) that I upgraded from OS X 10.3.9 to 10.4.11 without incident.)
Installed 10.4 using a FireWire Hard Drive - installed software updates to 10.4.11 - ran Disk Utility - ran MacJanitor - ran DoktorKleaner - everything was working well.
Rebooted and the Hard Drive Icon had disappeared from desktop. Folders on desktop have all lumped together in the top right hand corner of the screen, and refuse to open.
Only programs in the dock still work - clicking on the Finder icon only gives the option to hide. New Finder Window does not work. Programs can be found in Spotlight, but if they're not in the dock they won't open. Trash won't open or empty.
I attempted to reinstall Mac OS X using FireWire, but now the Hard Drive is full and is telling me it will erase and reinstall. I need to save files off this computer now (Sadly no backup exists) before my wife readies divorce papers.
I tried using FireWire Target Disk Mode to copy files - with the 400MHz as Target I just get a spinning Beach Ball any time I click on the Icon. After far too long it opened up an empty window.
With the 800MHz as the target, the 400MHz does not show it on the desktop, so I have no way of copying files to it.
Anyone have some advice that doesn't involve a time machine?Whenever something starts going wrong with the computer I suggest you first boot from the installer disk, select language if applicable, choose utilities, run Disk Utility and verify (and repair if necessary) the drive. Then repair the permissions on your computer. You can also repair permissions from DU on your main drive while booted, but to properly verify and repair your drive you have to run it from a drive other than the boot drive.

[Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions|http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751]
From BDaqua (couldn't have said it better):
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
Then Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes."
A few questions:
Was this a retail installer disc that you used to do the upgrade?
How much free space do you have on the computer?
Did you use the [PPC Combo updater|http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411comboupdateppc.html] to get to 10.4.11?
Did you do all these updates in one single session or restart and check your computer had accepted them okay between each update? It is critical to repair permissions before and after each update otherwise the installers won't install fully and you end up with a mix of versions.
You can set the Finder Preferences, general, to display a hard drive icon, but it sounds like your problems are going beyond that?
You can also try trashing your Users -> home folder -> Library -> Preferences -> com.apple.finder.plist file and see if that clears up the issue. That sets the Finder preferences and if it gets corrupted it will cause Finder problems. -
My iPhoto Library won't open. Help needed!
Hello all. I'm hoping someone who has had a similar problem or someone who's great with stuff like this found a solution by now. I upgraded to iPhoto 9.6.1. Then as I proceeded to open up iPhoto, it told me that if needed to conduct repairs. After it finished the repairs, I tried to open it, but it gave me what I'll call the "just getting started screen" as if I had nothing in my iPhoto Library- which conflicts with the file size of 280+ GB.
The Library is on an external drive which I tried opening on a different Mac, but I get the same just getting started screen. Both my Macs are able to open other photo libraries. So from that I'm guessing the problem is the 280+GB library itself and not the application.
I've tried repairing again, but it doesn't find anything to repair. I've tried iPhoto Library manager, but it also thinks there are no photos in that large file.
I'd appreciate any help.
Cheers!Terence,
I am connected to it via USB, and it's formatted for my Mac. There were no error messages from iPhoto Library Manager. I do have a backup of the Media file.
I also noticed you responded to other people who had similar problems and I tried what you suggested (which is how I had the idea to try iPhoto Library Manager). It didn't work. Do you know if there's a way to open up that Media file outside of iPhoto to view the folders individually? -
HT4710 Preinstalled imovie and iphoto aren't updating. Please help!
My macbook pro had as well as iphoto preinstalled, however i haven't been able to update them since I've gotten my computer. It keeps saying this: To update this application, sign in to the account you used to purchase it.
Hi again! I've got it!
It's a crude solution and you will lose all your playlists! but it works!
Close all programs.
First backup your iTunes library to an other disk. (go to Music folder than copy the folder called iTunes)
Than delete the iTunes library from your computer.
Restart your Mac, and start iTunes (it's empty like it's new)
Go to your iTunes backup… open the iTunes folder, it probably has the following structure;
iTunes > Album Artwork, iTunes Library Extras.itdb, iTunes Library Genius.itdb, iTunes Library.itl, iTunes Music Library.xml, iTunes Music. (Here's where it probably went wrong! iTunes Music should have been updated to a new folder called !iTunes Media! and most likely didn't transfer the files to that folder. The folder iTunes Media is where other programs like iMovie, iPhoto and GarageBand get there iTunes media but couldn't because it was still called iTunes Music)
Now take the "iTunes Music" folder from the backup (maybe iTunes Media) an drag it into iTunes itself (application). iTunes will now load all your media into the new library, this can take a while depending on the amount of files you have in your old library.
When this is done all your media is back in iTunes exempt for your playlists because thats a preset from your old library, THEY ARE GONE!
But iTunes has build a new Library called "iTunes Media" which will show up in other programs.
This is what worked for me.
Good luck! -

I finally took the big step and upgraded from 10.3.8 to 10.3.9, did all the right things, disconnected my FW External HD, ran Cocktail, ran disk utility, repaired permissions; BUT, since I've completed all the updates and the 10.3.9 upgrade, I cannot launch Safari.

Installed Dreamweaver MX 2004 update for Windows and now Dreamweaver won't open. Help?
I was having some glitches uploading to a host I ftp to often so I decided to check for a Dreamweaver update for MX 2004. When I found the Windows update and tried to install - it told me to uninstall Extensions. I uninstalled extensions and continued with the installation of the update. Now Dreamwever will not open at all - it says Dreamweaver MX 2004 has stopped working. I can see the update is installed since the version is 7.0.1. Any ideas on how to undo the update? I have no idea where this program disk is right now for reinstallation plus all my servers are already setup....
You might try Windows System Restore to a point before you installed the update.
Good luck.

So I just bought my MacBook and it was discounted as an "Open Box" which meant that someone had bought the computer and shortly (less than a week) decided that they did not want it. So because the person would have begun setting up the computer and using the computer's serial number to download Apps they would then cost money for peoplel like me who purchase them. This person did not purchase GarageBand because I got it for free, but iMovie and iPhoto both are $14.99. The salesman told me that I could use Apple's Up-To-Date program to get these Apps, however, when I tried to I am only able to get iWork and not iLife. How can I get iMovie and iPhoto without having to pay for them? I also have just updated the computer just incase that was not allowing me to get iMovie and iPhoto but that was not the problem.

Verizon offers an email service for non-smartphones called Mobile Email. According to this Gizmodo article (link is below), it apparently was initially compatible with only certain of the non-smartphone models available at that time.
At the present time, every one of the non-smartphone models listed on Verizon's website is listed as having Mobile Email compatibility.
As far as finding out what discontinued phones are compatible with Mobile Email, phonescoop lists this. For example, search for the Intensity II at phonescoop.com Halfway down the page, phonescoop says "Email Client: Yes"
On our Samsung u370 (aka Samsung Reality) and Casio Ravine 2 non-smartphones, Mobile Email is pre-installed as an unactivated app in the Media Center section of the phone.

Problem with iTunes compatability with iMovie and iPhoto
I purchased some music from the iTunes music store and wanted to use that music in a homemade DVD I made. I also have tried using the purchased music when I play a slideshow in iPhoto. In both instances, an error window popped up saying that I needed to launch iTunes and authorize the computer to play the song... Well I bougth the music on the same computer and it is authorized. I typed in the authorization anyways and then after that iMovie and iPhoto both pop up with an error saying that it can't use the file.
Thinking it might just be one song file... I have tried this with many purchased song. I have had the same problem with all of the purchased songs I've tried.
Are some purchased songs not compatable with the iLife applications? How can I fix this problem? I'm running iLife 05 and I have installed all of the updates, including the most recent...

can't open my iPhoto it says i need the upgrader did that and it still won't open.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

TD
