IMovie events NOT copied but aliases?

I have 4 years of digital events stored on a Drobo. Impossible to import on my iMac hard disk since the disk space is not enough.
I would like to access these in the browser. The 'import Imovie Events' seems to physically copy all the files and not create references or aliasses like the 'old' Final Cut Pro' does.
Does anybody know if it is possible to prevent the copy effect and thus creating doubles of all files?

OK thanks
I wonder if you could clear up a thing for me
If I have a project in iMovie that have clips in it from several events and I want to work with that project in FCP X without copy the files just point to them, could I do like this.
I create  the events  in FCP x with the same name as iMovie and import all  the clips from inside the iMovie events and not the event itself, so that it just points to the clips in the iMovie events and then import the project to FCP X..
Could that work ?
The reason I ask is that I have a couple of projects in iMovie that have clips in them from many events and I would like to work with them in FCP X without copy everything.
Cheers
Hans

  • Printer will not copy but will print from the computer

    Hp Photosmart D110 all in one printer--I am totally disgusted with this printer...have had it a few months.  It will only get about 160 economy pages per ink cartridge which is ridiculous.  So we bought an ink refill kit and just refilled and reinstalled the black ink cartridge.  it is printing from the computer just fine but the printer WILL NOT COPY.  When I use the tool box and check ink levels it just shows question marks on both ink cartridges.
          I spent 45 minutes on HP Chat Support and got no answers except that I need to use genuine HP Cartridges. They could not explain to me why the printer would print but not copy with refilled cartridge.
        Any help from any of you regarding the NOT copying and the ink cartridges.....thanks so much

    Did you ever get it to copy? I have the same problem

  • Items not copied but computer IS authorised. Help please.

    Error message on synch always reads: "some of the items in the itunes library ...were not copied to iphone because you are not authorised fro them on this computer.
    I jhave authorised the computer, repeatedly.
    Any ideas how to solve this?
    All I can think of is that some of the tiems were purchased long ago using a idfferent apple ID where I no longer have all the passwords and cant receive emails anymore.

    Open About this Mac from the Apple menu.
    Look for the Serial number (I think it can be found by clicking on the Version number twice). If not there, click More Info…
    The Serial number will be in the Hardware Overview.
    If the Serial number is missing, that may be the problem. However, I don't know how to fix it.

  • Why are my deleted imovie events not showing up in mac trash?

    I dleted an event in imovie on my macbook pro, it dissappeared, but I can't for the life of me find it in my mac trash.

    No solution to offer, but I can say that you are not alone. I am having the same exact problem.
    I installed "Photos" around April 8. "My Photo Stream" shows up in the sidebar containing pictures up through April 6 - nothing later. Photos taken with my iPhone since then do not show up.
    My iPhone and iPad both have Photostream on and working. Photos taken with either show up almost immediately on both devices. It is only "Photos" on the desktop machine which is broken. Like you, I have tried turning Photostream on/off, restarted both desktop machine and phone. Nothing.  "Photos" photo stream is stuck in time at April 6.

  • IMovie events not showing images

    Previously created Project (that has been Shared with iTunes) suddenly no longer shows images in the Viewer in from the Event; the shared movie in iTunes is still good. Still have audio from the Event. Thumbnails still are visable in both the Project and Event. But the actual images themselves from the Event and Project are not viewable. However, if I go to the Event folder and click any of the .mov files from that Event QuickTime shows the images completely ... so the issue seems to be with iMovie. Any help on this matter would be great.
    Thanks.

    AppleMan1958,
    Thanks for your reply ... it gave me an idea and that cleared up the problem.
    No, I did not move any of the files from the Folder (Event) but the links to the files must have gotten corrupted. Can't answer for why it happened or what it the best method in iMovie for re-establishing them. But what I decided to do what create a new Folder (Event) in iMovie and then move the files from the affected Folder to the new Folder--that was just a simple Finder move. Tested to see if the movie files were viewable from the new Folder (Event), and all was fine. Then I moved the files back to the original folder (Event) and the Event and Project were both viewable again. (You have to close and open iMovie to get it to process the Event of course....)
    Again, I can't explain what corrupted the Event Links. Anyway, if anyone else has this problem just remove the movie files and restoring will re-establish the links.
    Thanks for your help.

  • IMovie will not import - but says it is importing

    When I try an automatic import with iMovie, it finished in about 3 seconds and nothing happens (There is about an hour's worth of video on the tape). When I do a manual import, a blue screen appears which says "Importing" but no photo clips display and the timer on the top right corner stays at zero. What is going on? It sees my camera (JVC Mini DV3) but I cannot seem to do anything with the video on the camera. If I click stop or close the movie is nowhere to be found. If I quit iMovie, it does not prompt me to save anything (obviously, because nothing imported). Any idea what is going on? Help! Thanks in advance.

    It finally worked on about the 12th time! I did have to hit play first, then Import, and although I tried this previously it finally worked this time. Hopefully it is not so tempermental in the future!

  • Command C does not copy but instantly opens Accessability options

    When I try to copy using command c it instantly opens accessibility options.  It used to work fine.  Now, not at all.

    Have a look at your Keyboard shortcuts, go to:
    System Preferences>Keyboard
    Select the Shortcuts tab
    Select 'Accessibility' on the left hand side, then scroll down to 'Show Accessibility controls' on the right. The default setting should be option-command-F5, if yours says Command-C, this should be an easy fix.
    Good luck.

  • Importing iMovie events - duplicate files?

    After installing FCPX I elected to import all the imovie events, not thinking that the imovie folder is about 1 TB. After FCPX was done my 2TB RAID the FCPX events folder is about 1TB in the 2TB drive, with about 1TB free. Similarly, in the same drive, the iMovie events folder is 1TB with 1TB free. Since both "get infos" say there is a free TB, does this mean the two events folders are sharing the same files? This suggests I shouldn't delete the iMovie events folder. Any thoughts?

    Just read link "iMovie events NOT copied but aliases? This seems to explain what is going on.

  • How do you move imported iMovie events to different drive?

    Hi there,
    I'd like to import my entire iMovie event library (200+ GB) into Final Cut Pro X, but I can't figure out how to get the imported events to live anywhere besides the startup disk.
    Here's my process so far:
    Use FCPX's feature to import my entire iMovie event library. Make tea.
    I don't seem to be able to choose which drive to import to, so they end up on the startup disk at ~/Movies/Final Cut Events
    No worries! FCPX is a media management superhero. I just use the FCPX event browser to drag the events to my external drive.
    Make more tea while all the events are moved to my external.
    So far so good! My ~/Movies/Final Cut Events folder is clean, and my /Volumes/ExternalDrive/Final Cut Events folder is full.
    Now let's test updating my imported library by clicking to import the library a second time. (Dialog confirms my impression that only new material will be copied.)
    Result: Oh no! My entire iMovie event library is re-imported to the startup disk. Now I have two copies of each event in FCPX (not to mention the original copy in iMovie events -- oi my hard drives are filling up fast.)
    So:
    How do I get FCPX to import my iMovie event library to a drive other than startup? I love the idea of being able to periodically sync my iMovie events to FCPX, but it's not going to be possible if those events are required to live on my startup disk.
    Thanks for any help,
    - canton

    You really don't want to share the Events folder even if you could. If any other application changes (or sometimes even opens) a clip in a FCPX Event, FCPX will offline that clip with no easy way to relink it.
    I'm surprised your Android phone footage isn't supported; what is the codec/format? Have you tried importing it after copying the files to the hard drive and using "Import Files" as opposed to importing from the "camera" directly?
    My strong recommendation would be to keep the Events separate; use iMovie for android footage only, and FCPX for everything else. When FCPX supports the footage in the way you want, import them at that time and start using FCPX exclusively.

  • OnChange and DropDownList's - event not being dispatched

    I can't get an onChange event to fire when making a ListItem selection in a DropDownList control. Am I doing something wrong? (I'm running XP Pro 32bit)
         var dlg = new Window('dialog');
         var pnl = dlg.add('panel');
         var myDDList1 = pnl.add('dropdownlist',undefined,['one', 'two', 'three'], {name: 'ddList1'});
         myDDList1.addEventListener('change', myFunction);
         var myDDList2 = pnl.add('dropdownlist',undefined,['one', 'two', 'three'], {name:'ddList2'});
         myDDList2.addEventListener('change', myFunction);
         var myDDList3 = pnl.add('dropdownlist',undefined,['one', 'two', 'three'], {name:'ddList3'});
         myDDList3.addEventListener('change', myFunction);
          function myFunction(ev)
              var ddl = ev.target;
              var props = ddl.properties;
              if(props.hasOwnProperty('name'))
                   switch(props.name)
                        case 'ddList1':
                            alert ('change made in ddList1');
                        break;
                        case 'ddList2':
                            alert ('change made in ddList2');
                        break;
                        case 'ddList3':
                            alert ('change made in ddList3');
                        break;
              ddl = null;
              props = null;
         dlg.show();

    Thank you, that works perfectly. Is it because invoking the function using this method
    myDDList1.onChange = myFunction;
    the onChange Event actually contains a copy of myFunction(), and the this keyword used in the function is a reference to the element the onChange event is registered to; in this case myDDList1? Whereas, invoking the function using this method
    myDDList1.addEventListenter('change', myFunction);
    myFunction() is not copied, but only referred to when the onChange event happens? Still not sure why it wouldn't work, though. Mousedown, mouseover, and other Events trigger the function using this method and event.target can be used to refer to the element that triggered the Event.
    Thanks again!

  • Imovie won't copy correct section

    imac, OS X 10.8.5  Any suggestions re. this problem gratefully received!
    Trying to merge two projects, one around 33 minutes, one 25 minutes.  I found the end of the second project had not copied but had ended in the middle of a section.  I went back to the original of the second project, put in a division so I could copy just the missing bit & then copied & re-pasted.  Instead of giving me any of what I had copied, it copied the last couple of minutes of what had already been copied successfully.  I closed down imovie, restarted the imachine & tried again - same problem.  I've got 1.4 Gb of memory free.

    Here's another example - from a separate library on another ext. dive.  I'm in the process of moving some files from one drive to the other, but both libraries are having the year problem.  On this one, 2010 is the oldest "folder" it will create.

  • How can I burn a copy of my project to a DVD . I do not have IDVD because I have the Lion os. I did purchase Wondershare for burning but it will not load the iMovie events or projects

    How can I burn a copy of my project to a DVD . I do not have IDVD because I have the Lion OS. I did purchase Wondershare for burning but it will not load the iMovie events or projects

    There is no proper substitute for iDVD.
    Why is there no iDVD on my new Mac?

    UPDATE & ADDENDUM:
    But even though you can still buy iLife 11 that includes iDVD 7 from Amazon, Apple now make it difficult to install:
    Poster jhb21939 posted this in another thread:
    “when I attempted to load iDVD into a new iMac. A notice came up on the screen stating that the 'Authorisation Licence' had expired on 25 March this year (2012).
    I contacted the Apple support team and eventually, I was told that the Licence had been withdrawn and could no longer be used.”
    In other words Apple are now so adamant that we don’t use iDVD that they have tried to make it impossible to install.
    In response, Old Toad posted this solution:
    “You can still use it one all of your Macs.  If you get an invalid certificate message just set your Mac's clock to sometime before early 2011 and run the installer.  After you're done reset the time back to the correct time.” He added this comment:
    “It began after iDVD and iWeb were discontued and they were dropped from the Apple Store. All I can think of is the certificate was set to expire after a certain time period after the intitial iLife disc was released.
    I've been able to use the installer even without setting back the date.  I just clicked on the Continue button and it would work as expected.  For some it would not continue unless the date was set back.”
    The latest anorexic iMacs just announced do not even include a CD drive! Proof positive that Apple virtually prohibit the use of DVDs - although the newly announced Mac Minis do include a Superdrive.
    Yet, they still include iMovie! Heaven alone knows or understands what you are supposed to do with your newly edited masterpiece - except make a low quality version for YouTube?

  • How do i import my iMovie event library to FCPX when the iMovie library is NOT in the home folder.

    my situation:
    my MBP is running two drives:  a 160gb SSD that has my home folder, OS and all apps, and a 500gb HDD for data and non-essential software.
    the HDD used to be my OS and home folder, so I used to run iMovie off it.  but after installing the SSD, i am now running Lion off it, and it is now my new home folder.
    so my iMovie events are now marooned on my ex-home folder, on what is now my HDD data drive.
    I can import iMovie events no problem, as FCPX prompts for where the project files are.  but FCPX doesn't prompt for the location of the iMovie events library, so how do i get those old iMovie events in?
    i suppose i could copy all the events over to my SSD, then do the import, and then delete them.  but that would take up a lot of space, and id rather not be copying and deleting so much data on the SSD.
    is there any other way?

    It is definitely to your advantage to use the FCP command to Import your iMovie Events all at once. The reason is you will not double up on space. FCP will create a hard lingk to your events so you can access them in FCP without altering the iMovie Event in any way, but without doubling the space.
    So there are several ways you could approach this.
    1) If you are not using iMovie anymore, you could simply move them to the iMovie Event folder at the top level of either your old drive, or any attached drive that is formatted correctly (Mac OS Extended (journaled). This would likely break any iMovie Projects that you currently have, so it is not recommended if you will continue to use iMovie.
    2) If iMovie is still working, you can use iMovie to move the Events to a proper drive. Click VIEW/EVENTS BY DISK in iMovie, and Command-Drag in iMovie to Movie Events to the drive you want while maintaining your project links. This option is probably only available to you if you have set up your old drive as your official Home directory.
    3) As long as you set your "old" drive to be your Home Folder in OSX, you can just leave them where they are. OSX lets you have the Home folder on a different drive than your startup drive. This is not ususally recommended, but it is useful when you have an SSD. When I got my current Mac with an SSD, I moved my home folder to the internal hard drive but OSX and my Apps are on the SSD.
    To do this, I followed the advice of longtime poster Pondini, who has a great website that walks you through this.
    Here is a link.
