IMovie failing (somehow) to load my project

Hi all
I'm new to iMovie and was happily editing my first video project with it, until today. The project is medium sized (11g). Symptoms are as follows: iMovie OPENS the project, but DOESNT display it. The menu bar is there, but other than that, nothing's visible of iMovie. I can even bring the movie window to front, if I change the focus to another application (e.g., finder) and then switch back to iMovie. But, I can not edit anything, no button is reacting to any of my mouseclicks. Also, when trying to export the movie or quitting iMovie, I get a crash. I can even create a new project with which everything seems to work as expected...
Now, I'm completely clueless as how to debug this, does anyone have any idea? I guess that I somehow trashed my project file, is there a way to repair it? Should I really just start from scratch?

You probably just need to do a little basic maintenance. Two simple things that are commonly done are: 1) Close iMovie and trash the com.apple.iMovie.plist file located in User (your name)/Library/Preferences. iMovie will create a new .plist file on relaunch. 2) Do a permissions repair using the Utilities/Disk Utility app on your Mac.
Some other possibilities that can cause crashing are 1) insufficient free disk space for iMovie to operate properly (should have at least 15GB-25GB); 2) conflicting 3rd Party plug-ins (remove them to a different folder to temporarily disable them); and 3) an untidy hard drive or one needing repair (use a disk repair program like Disk Warrior to repair any hard drive problems). One indication that your hard drive might need attention is if you are having crashes or problems with other programs as well. Leave your computer on overnight and your Mac automatically will tidy up your hard drive, but if the problem is more serious, then a disk repair program like mentioned above would be appropriate.
One last thing: If you store your project on an external disk, make sure that the disk is formatted for Apple. Should be Mac OS extended or Mac OS extended (journaled). If it is not formatted for Apple, then you can reformat it using the Disk Utility program on your Mac, but reformatting will erase all data on the disk -- so you will need to first copy your data elsewhere if you want to save it.

  • Please please help! iMovie 09 won't load my project

    Hi,
    I've been slowly working on a project from a holiday we took early 2009 (yep, I mean slowly). I was actually getting close to having the movie finished and ready for export but now iMovie won't even show the project and this is a long project
    The files all run from my external drive. I have checked the folder and the iMovie Project folder shows the holiday .rcproject file as being there and I have looked at the other project files in the folder and they all seem to match up to this particular file (in regards to the when I ask it to show package contents, the same folders are in each one).
    When I double click on the file it opens iMovie but the project still doesn't show up! The raw vision from the project is there but it has red lines in all the clips too.
    I hope someone can help.

    Oh and the last time I opened the project was about a month ago and nothing untoward has happened in the meantime. In that time we made another movie of a friend's wedding and everything was fine.

    Hello, i have also had the same issue. Basically when i click on the photo icon in imovie 09 the library doesn't show,it's just blank but also my itunes library isn't showing up either. The only way i can get photos and music into imovie is by dragging them into imovie but thats not the way the program is meant to work and would also like to fix this issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    You might try restarting your device, your router and your Apple TV.

  • Unable To Load Specific Project

    Dear all,
    I seriously need help here. I've been working on a project for a few weeks and just a day ago while i was halfway working on it, iMovie'09 exited unexpectedly. When i relaunch, i've been having problem loading this specific project. It kept having the spinning icon on the preview window and stays that way forever.
    I have no problem loading other projects. What could've happened?? I can't afford to redo the entire project as it is a real pain to do so! I could remember the last thing i did before iMovie'09 exited was copying & pasting some text from the web to that project i was working on. And suddenly this happened.
    I've tried reinstalling iMovie, deleting project folder, disabling fonts, etc but to no success.
    Any help would be much appreciated!

    Has anyone had any luck repairing, rebuilding or recovering a damaged project? I think I'm suffering the same thing. In my case, the project loads into the project window so I can see the clips, transitions and such, but it will not play. So close, and yet so far.
    I've been searching this forum for answers. There are a lot of reports of projects that suddenly "die" but it seems that every thread ends with a question mark and no solution.
    If there's no way to fix a broken project, this is a very serious flaw that everyone should consider before devoting days of effort to an iMovie project. Of course backups will save some effort but let's face it, most programs don't routinely produce damaged files. This needs to be fixed or users need to warned up front of the possibility of losing hours of work.

  • Won't load new project or anything

    I have Adobe Premiere Elements 8 and it works just fine on my desktop.  I've installed it on my laptop now and it doesn't seem to be working.  When I try to create a new project, nothing appears. When I try to load a  previous project it says "Projects created with Adobe Premiere Pro and  Adobe Premiere Elements are not compatible." (I only have ever used  Premiere elements & mind you, these "previous projects" contain  nothing, because they're just the failed attempts at creating new  projects but with nothing actually happening after I get passed the  point of naming the new project)
    Any ideas on how I can fix this?
    The suggestions I've found through searching & such haven't helped.
    I tried deleting all previous files,  uninstalling, reinstalling, just letting it sit and see if something  eventually happens, deleted the adobe premiere prefs file, etc...

    I was actually able to get it to load a new project ONCE-- but then I exited it because I needed it to be widescreen instead of standard. With the exception of that one time, I haven't had any luck getting it to do anything.

    Is it only your desktop it has been previously installed on? I ask because I think you can only install it on a maximum of two machines. If so you may have a licensing issue requiring you to deactivate one.
    More likely though it is out-of-date drivers and/or the state of your laptop. The following basics are well proven to solve many, many problems with PRE:
    Install all Windows Updates.
    Install latest version of Apple QuickTime (v7.6.9 at time of writing). Even if you don't use QuickTime, PRE relies heavily on it.
    Install most recent graphics and sound drivers from the manufacturers web sites.
    Install PRE8 v8.0.1 update. Did the patch install successfully?
    Run Disk Cleanup.
    Run Defragmenter.
    Reboot your PC.
    Temporarily disable any anti-virus realtime scanning.

  • Premiere Pro CC locking up and very slow to load bigger projects

    I am having a problem with premirepro cc locking up and very slow to load bigger projects.
    Windows 8 machine

    I am having the EXACT same issue and now we are WAY behind deadlines.  We have Adobe for Teams on 3 computers, all are HPZ820, Dual Proc with Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2650 @ 2.00GHz, 32 GB RAM, Dual Video Cards Quadro 6000 4GB, Windows 7 64 bit with all the latest patches.  Everything worked on the first release of 2014 but last week there was an "update" to Premiere.  Since this update, projects work for a short period.  When you start a new project and add footage, you can scrub the footage and play the footage with no issue.  But the more assets you add, simple Titles, it slowly starts to fail.  Playing the timeline starts and stops and then finally the end result is you can't even play the timeline.  The Program window is frozen.  I have even tested starting a new project, adding assets one by one but no matter what, I get the same results.

    I'm dealing with this same issue. At one point, it did recognize the Update function but then said it could not import the cache.mov and plist files which apparently means that imovie 10 can't see any of these past events. I can't figure it out.

  • Premiere Pro CS3 crashes when trying to load my projects.

    All help is appreciated! I'm going nuts after searching for days through forums for solutions.
    The problem started when I was working on a project. I realised that the HD Quality footage I was editing with wasn't converted properly so i downloaded a new program that would help convert to a higher quality. With the program came the "K-Lite Codec Pack". I decided it couldn't hurt so i installed it. After doing so, everytime i opened Premiere it would crash after i tried to load any project. I tried re-installing Premiere, detecting broken codecs, uninstalling the K-Lite Codec Pack and have no luck. Briefly after re-installing Premiere it strangely worked a couple of times but then somehow it's up to it old tricks and crashing on load. Does it have anything to do with the "Main Concept" codecs missing? I also tried getting the ad2ac3dec.dll and putting it in the folder but it has done nothing. I even went back to Premiere CS2 but same issue!
    I have a lot of time invested in these projects so any help on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

    despite sounding very time consuming, I think thats exactly what I'd doing in this case. something has gone horridly wrong (a file has been overwritten somewhere) and a fresh OS sounds like a pretty good aproach to me!

  • Loading Silverlight Project Terminates Application

    I have an ASP.net web application project which references a Silverlight [4] Silverlight Application.  If, in the web application, I add a reference to the Silverlight application in the Project Properties -> Silverlight Applications dialog, the
    application will terminate at the end of the page lifecycle.  I can verify this by placing a breakpoint in the Session_End and Application_End events in the global .asax.  The application appears to function properly after this point, but the loss
    of the session variables on this initial page load is causing problems and this can't be considered normal operation.
    If I remove the reference to the Silverlight Application in the Project Properties dialog of the web application, it no longer terminates prematurely, and it works properly, but breakpoints in the Silverlight Application are no longer accessible.  Sometimes
    I can remove/re-add the Silverlight application reference in the web application, and it will function fine for awhile, then it will begin to terminate again and I have to repeat the process.
    I have reviewed the system logs and it doesn't look like an App Pool recycle is occurring, so I have no idea what is causing the application to fail prematurely. 

    I have a question about loading Microsoft Project on Java Application server.There is no such product called "Java Application server" This could describe any J2EE or J2SE client-server application. No you cannot load Microsoft Project onto a Java Application server. But you can install MS project onto the same machine.
    We have IIS on the Web server and Java Application Server Software on our web server . I assume your web server is also your application server.
    Is it possible to load MS project software on the same server .Why don't you install it on your PC or workstation.
    I am not sure . We also have windows 2000 server . You could also install MS Project on that machine.
    Why don't you install it on the box which you intend to use it on.

    For the first time I switched my Canon T3I to 60FPS/720P in order to record a new parkour video largely using slow motion. I planned to slow the footage down to a smooth 30FPS in Imovie '09.
    Fast forward three months. I've taken plenty of 60FPS footage and am two minutes into my video. All of a sudden Imovie is actually very strangely. It takes a very long time to load when I open the program, sometimes as long as 5 minutes. And now, it crashes and freezes when I try to select my 60FPS project no matter what I do. Half the time it won't load the Project Editor, and the few times it does, it will not play the video. I can hear audio, but the Preview screen on the right is either blank or ahopeless mess.
    It's odd because I've been using Imovie 09 for years and have not had a problem. I've used it with HD footage but never 60FPS. I edited the project for months, optimized and slowed down nearly two minutes of footage, and haven't had a problem. But now Imovie won't work no matter what I do. I've checked software update, made sure no other programs or opened, restarted, no good.
    Does anyone know why Imovie is spazzing and how I can fix it? Thank you.

  • IMovie - Start fresh and import all projects and events from scratch

    I am using iMovie 10.0.6 on Yosemite.
    I have 3 Libraries that stretch back many years.  When I open iMovie, it loads the Projects and says there are 42, but only shows about 8.  The others are missing.  The event folders show up but the event data is missing.
    Basically I want to start over.  I want ONE clean library and I want to re-import all of my raw event data and the projects that I created using that event data.
    How on earth does one do this?

    If you have  iMovie Projects and imovie Events folders in <user name> / Movies, these are from iMovie 9, so I infer that you have transferred them from an old machine and upgraded them to imovie 10.   
    If this is correct you should still have your projects and events.  iMovie 10 stores everything in packages with the extension .imovielibrary.  If this has become corrupt you should be able to upgrade them again (they will automatically go into a new library).  You  will find an empty file with a name something like "updated to iMovie 10" in the events and projects folders.  These need to be trashed in order to allow them to be upgraded afreash.

    I did a few tests again yesterday, and it was really a stupid mistake from myside.
    The error message did mean, that there wasn't enough space.
    It isn't the authority issue, it was a leak of space.
    FYI, the complete DB-Size of Source System is required - NOT JUST RESERVED SPACE!!!

    I had the same error while trying to start the weblogic admin server for my IDM domain to allow me configure OIM server and OIM Design Console on my Window 7 box. What I did were the following steps.
    1. I changed to the IDM domain bin directory <MiddlewareHome>\user_projects\domains\idm1_domain\bin
    2. I ran the secureWeblogic.bat file as administrator
    3. I ran the setDomainEnv.cmd file as administrator
    4. I ran the setSOADomainEnv.cmd file as administrator
    5. Started my weblogic admin server and it worked.

    But has problem Loading on the Deployment System     "unable to load labview project"

    I think I will need more information to solve this issue.
    You told "NI Support  has not responded yet to the solution." Do you already have a service request number of the NI support?
    Can you post your project? Which RT-target do you use? Which hardware?
    You can also post a MAX report of you windows computer and one of your target:
    1. Start -> Programs -> NI MAX
    2. File -> create protocol -> choose technical support and my system (development computer) -> next -> next -> choose path -> next -> finish.
    3. File -> create protocol -> choose technical support and your RT-target (real-time system) -> next -> next -> choose path -> next -> finish.
