Imovie to idvd. iMovie says 31 minutes length, .dvdproj file is 7GB, won't load into idvd. Anyone know why?

I have now tried several of the suggestions regarding exporting from imovie to idvd, and I'm wondering whether I'm just missing something. Many of the posts here mention a 2 hour movie length limit, but imovie says the file is 31 minutes long. Once exported to idvd, the file size is a little over 7 GB, and won't open in any of the themes or even as a project, new or existing. Is the file size limiting it? Is the imovie length indicated irrelevant in idvd? Do I need to change settings somehow in imovie before exporting? Thanks.

I got a couple of emails from  Bengt Wärleby  who ran some tests.  Here's what me send me:
Hi
an interesting problem but - out of my range
have a bit of similar problem with movies recorded on my small Leica D-Lux 3
as I import the movies to iPhoto and from this to iMovie and get OK sound
but a bad picture
I selected to use
• 30fps 16:9L
and can also use 10 fps 16:9L or 15fps 16:9H
May be 15fps 16:9H will deliver a better picture - I'll have to try it out.
Then:
OK
So I made some quick tests -
• Importing via iPhoto is not optimal - far from it
• 15fps 16:9H gave a sharper picture - but 15fps is jumpy - panning around looks very amateuristic - stable picture is OK
• In iMovie Importing from line two option and here first suggestion Import Movie - AND - put SD-Card into Card reader
and then
Select movie file
AND - where to store it - Yes too obvious to me > three tries to get this right
AND - Optimize the Video
RESULT was much better
Conclution
• Setting on Cameras - Importing
• Way to import into iMovie - Important
That's ways end for me - Hopefully not just confusing but a bit of help.
Yours Very - Bengt W
Hopefully some of this may lead you in the right direction.
