Implement ESS Package

Hi, I’m trying to install de Business Package for ESS, we already have mySAP ERP and 6.0.2.4.6 Enterprise Portal Service Pack 2.
We download the Business Package from SDN page, with the name "Business Package for Employee Self-Service (mySAP ERP 2004)" and this just have one archive: BPERP4ESS0_0.sca
We suppose the sca file have to come with scs files, but the package do not have them, so we tried install with de SDM and just don’t work, and display information:
No Top Level Development Components found in SCA "C:\FIRA\BPERP4ESS0_0.sca". Please choose another file.
Could you tell us where can we find the complete business package or where can find documentation about it?
Thanks a lot

The BPERP4ESS0_0 file should be a zip file that you will need to expand.
The package should be imported from within the portal itself.
You will need to navigate within the portal to
System Administration -> Transport -> Import
You should have the contents on your portal server in the directory specified on your Import page. Click the Browse button and select the package to be imported.
You should get a link to view the log of the import process. You will need to refresh this log view until the import process completes.
After the import completes, you should be able to access the new package contects from your portal by navigating to:
Content Administration -> Migrated Content ...(Not certain what subdirectory you might see here. I have imported BPESS for 4.7 not mySAP ERP but process is the same)
Documentation for ESS on MySAP ERP 2004 can be found here:

  • Best Practice to implement Business Packages

    Hello All,
    Need some clarification -
What is the best practice to implement ESS/MSS Business Package onto Portal -
    (1) Should I just import and configure the content     OR
    (2) Should I import, create a copy and then configure it? If yes, are there any points to be kept in mind?
All blogs/articles that have been published show to configure the standard content.
The requirement is to maintain a different prefix/namespace for each Portal content that comes along the business package?
    Thanks,
    Ritu

    Hi Paul,
I also build my own roles. The only time I might use the standard roles is for demo purposes early in a project.  You will find that in some cases the business packages like MSS don't always even include standard roles, so you have no choice but to build.
I never change any of the standard iViews/Pages/Worksets - ever.
The most contentious issue seems to be whether to do a full or delta link copy of the standard objects.  I tend to initially do a full copy of the objects into a custom folder set in the PCD and modify those. Then I only use delta links from Page to iViews where I need the option of setting different properties for the same iView if it appears in multiple pages.  Delta links can be a bit flakey at times, so I tend to only use them where I have to.  I suspect that I may get to a point where I don't use them at all.
    Just my 2 cents worth....

    John

    Regards,

    Joshi,
In addition to the Business Packages, you will need the actual packages which contain the WD applications for ESS/MSS, I think they are referred as XSS packages and along with that you will need other two packages PCUI and Common parts package.
Just do a search on marketplace and you will get links for them.
    Additionally read these notes : Note 1004528 & 1007341.

  • Widen a Standard WEB Dynpro from ESS package

    Hi,
    Implementation of Employ Self-Service...
The Package is provided of application to deploy in WEB As but the customer will be extend some WEB Dynpro owner ESS Package.
    Can I do this?
    Thank everybody.

    Hi
Do you want to modify the existing ESS to match your requirements.
If so what is the amount of customizations you are looking at. As far as i know if there are many changes i would suggest you will have to make the entire module a custom development.
I dont think it would be advisable to change the standard SAP provided ESS to suit your requirements until SAP allows us to do so to their standard package.

  • ESS Package Transport

    Hi exparts,
We are using EP 7 and <b>ESS 600 SP7</b>...with ECC6. We implemented ESS in our Development server. We had done some customization in ESS. Now is it possible to transport the business package from the <b>EP Dev to our EP Production</b> server. can it be done through the <b>Transport packages</b> from portal by exporting and again importing it in the production. I also worry about the <b>JCOs</b> will working then?? Or we need to do the whole stuffs again?? We had deployed in the development.
    BPERP5ESS07_0-10003288.SCA
    BPERP5COM07_0-20001067.SCA
    SAPESS07_0-20000512.SCA
    SAPPCUIGP07_0-20001215.SCA
    Please help me out.
Point will be given for any repley.
    Regards,
    Sekhar

    Hi Sekhar,
First of all, as you had done on the EP Development Server, you need to deploy these sca files:
    BPERP5ESS07_0-10003288.SCA
    BPERP5COM07_0-20001067.SCA
    SAPESS07_0-20000512.SCA
    SAPPCUIGP07_0-20001215.SCA
<b>We had done some customization in ESS.</b>
Depends on what kind of customization you have done.
    1) If you have just configured or customized the ESS Applications using SPRO, you need to maintain the same SPRO settings on backend system (I assume it should be R3 Production Server). You can still do with just deploying the above listed .sca files.
    2) If it's just customization of worksets, pages, roles or iviews i.e. changing names or removing some of the pages etc. then you can just create a transport package and export them to the production system.
    3) If you done both 1) and 2), then you need maintain SPRO as well as create a transport package on portal for roles, pages, worksets and iviews and export from Portal Development to Portal Production.
    4) If you have customized the code of these application, you need to deploy these customized ESS applications on Portal Production Server too. I believe you had used JDI for importing these ESS applications and customizing them. I believe you have created tracks for the same. You can just transport these customized applications on Portal Production Server using the same tracks.
    5) If it's a combination of 1,2 and 4 then you know by now what you have to do :-).
<b>I also worry about the JCOs will working then.</b>
You will have to configure the JCO connections there on the Portal Production System also. You need to specify the backend server i.e. R3 Production Server that you would be connecting to and the service user which is there on the R3 Production System. And needless to say, we also need to configure SSO between R3 Production System and Portal System.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers,
    Sunil

  • ESS Package problems

    Hi,
I'm trying to configure the ESS Business package to work in the EP6 SP10, but don't work. Page can't be displayed is the error message.
    What I've done:
    - Imported the ESS package,
    - Created the System to connect to the R/3 system (tested and it works)
    - Mapped the EP user to the R/3 user
    - Added the ESS role to the EP user group
    - Created the IT 0105 subty 001 in the R/3 employee.
    What else?
    Thanks for any information
    Best reegards,
    Adriano

We'll need a bit more information...
What is the real http error? 404, 500, ....
Have you traced from the browser and checked that the URLs are correct and pointed to the right host:port?
Have you traced from SM50 on the R/3 side to see whether your request is making it to the backend?

  • Style sheet of the SAP standard ESS package.

    Hi,
Our client installed the standard ESS package and after adding a theme to portal the dropdowns , calendar widgets doesn't take the style sheet correctly and therefore the dropdowns , calendar widgets  and other display attributes doesn't appear properly.
It would be great if any one provide the solution why this is occuring.
    Thanks
    Ritushree Saha

    Hi Ritushree,
we experienced the same thing a couple of month ago. Some of the ESS/MSS GUI elements were not properly rendered after we applied a new SP (SAP NW 7.0 SPS 9 or SPS 11). As far as I remember SAP promised to fix the probleme in the next SPs.
As a workaround we configured the affected ESS/MSS iViews in a way that they did not use the Portal Theme. As a result the iViews had a slightly different design but the GUI elements were working again.
    Best regards,
    Martin

    Hi,
    This is known issue....
SAP resolved this in SAP ESS SP Stack 20.
So when deployment error occurs for Austrlian DC's, import SAP ERP SP Stack 20.
    Refer SAP Note# 1167226
If you face this again....better contact SAP.

  • How to find which ESS Package is installed on customer system

    Hi All,
I have just joined this project as a portal admin support. The customer has Employee Self Service installed. How can i find which ESS package has been installed by the customer.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    go to http://<localhost>:<port>/index.html
System Information - under Software Components - click on link all components - look for BP_ERP5ESS
and SAP_ESS version which is deployed into Portal.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers-
    Pramod
