Implicit Fact key for 2 facts in one subject area

Hi All,
We have 2 Facts(F1,F2) which are connected to conformed dimensions (D1,D2,D3)
and F1 is connected to another Dimension (D4) which does not have any connection with F2.
Also D1,D2,D3 is conformed dimension to facts F3,F4,F5
In this scenario how do we set implicit fact column when 2 Facts(F1,F2) involved..?
Thanks in advance.
LonaD

Hi,
In this scenario, column from which fact table can be set as implicit column. Please help we wanted it for an urgent development.
D1----->F1------>D2<-------F2
If we select the column from table D1 then the join should be D1.Column=F1.Column and if we select the column from D2 then the join should be D2.Column=F2.Column i.e., if anything other than the D1 dimension the join should be D*.Column = F2.Column. how do we achieve this plz help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks,
LonaD

    Hi All,
I have 5 subject areas and lot of dashboards created for all of them.
For dashboards of one subject area, OBIEE is not displaying images but it is working fine for dashboards of other subject areas.
Does anyone has any idea about this issue.
Note: OBIEE is installed on UNIX for my system.
Please let me know anyone need any other information from my side.
One more thing : How can I attach a document to this thread.

    Hi,
U have create new Catalog and deploy that via EM then can see u r latest new catalog. u r telling u have created new RPD and deployed only but u didn't change it default catalog (sampleapplte) so create new catalog deploy it.
refer below one to create new catalog

  • Surrogate key for fact

    Hi all,
i don't know that in ETL update of existing records in fact can happen or not. IF it happen then how can i handle it? is it recommendable to implement surrogate key for fact tables to update the existing records of fact? That work like primary key for fact table. This doesn't have any relation with OWB. This is a general concept about ETL.
    Regards,
    Sumanta

Yes, you can update a fact.
You generally do this by adding a unique constraint to the fact table which comprises the identifying primary key columns from the source tables, but exclusive of the surrogate key. The surrogate key will be the actual primary key of the table.
Now, when you make an insert/update mapping you include a sequence that generates your surrogate key, and then select the 'match by' on the fact table to match by the unique key (actual source table values which determine uniqueness) rather than the primary key. Then, on the surrogate key column on the fact table which is being populated by the sequence, you set its property to not update the surrogate key when an update is being applied to the row.
This way the update statement will not update the surrogate key when updating the fact based upon the source identifiers that identify this fact.
I'm sure I could explain this more clearly... but I'm very pressed for time right now.

  • One prompt for two or more subject area

Does someone knows how to resolve this problem?
I have two subject areas. And I need to create prompt that will work on dashboard that contain requests from two different subject areas (one request from one subject area). I hope that I was clear with this problem, if not I would try to explain it again.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Another way is to have the same naming in both subject areas. So the names of the items you can pick should be: both presentation table name as well as presentation column name. i.e.:
    Subject Area A:
    Product Dim
    Product Group
    Product Name
    Subject Area B:
    Product Dim
    Product Group
    Product Name
Then you can create a prompt on either Product Group name and it will affect reports from both subject area's

  • Two Facts in One Subject Area

    Hi,
In one of the reports I need to see columns, Dim A.Col1, Dim B.Col2, Fact C.Col3 and Fact D.Col4
Dim A.Col1 and Dim B.Col2 are joined to Fact C.Col3 but
Dim B is not joined to Fact D as a result I don't see any values in the Fact D.Col4
Can you please tell me how I can overcome this problem?
    Thanks

Dim A.Col1 and Dim B.Col2 are joined to Fact C.Col3 but
Dim B is not joined to Fact D as a result I don't see any values in the Fact D.Col4Either you need to join the Dim B with Fact D or Dim A with Fact D.

  • Shortcut keys for the Start/End work area?

    Hey guys,
Does anyone know if any shortcut keys exist for setting the Start and End points for the work area (i.e. grey bar with orange endpoints above timeline)?  On a large timeline, I usually have to zoom all the way out, find it and then drag it to where I'm currently editing so I can render a small work area. If I could save some time by using shortcut keys, that'd be great!

  • Remote Keys for Multiple Systems

I am working on an SRM project where we have internal catalogs items (from ECC) and external catalog items (from Excel files) going into an MDM Catalog repository.  For both, we use a lookup table for the Supplier number to cross-ref to a supplier name.
We have a Supplier List message that runs from ECC to MDMCAT to populate this table.  In doing so, it creates a key mapping for the ECC remote system...which gets used for cross-referencing supplier names when catalog items load.
The issue...we do not have such a Supplier List from the external catalog "remote system", so when external catalog items get loaded there is no supplier number/name cross-ref happening.  I can manually create key mappings for the external remote system, but I want to automate it.
I am thinking about having our PI middleware make a copy of the ECC Supplier Lists and send them to a new port set up as the external remote system...thinking that this would generated extenal system keys...hopefully without duplicating supplier lookup records.  Before proceeding, I wanted to throw this out to see if there is a better solution.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Keith

    Hi Keith,
    some remarks:
if you send data from ECC to MDMCAT, the catalog items contain the supplier keys of the ECC system. That's why the import works automatically. If you want to reuse the ECC supplier keys, the first question to answer is: does your external system  use exactly the SAME keys as ECC? Only if this is the case, duplicating the ECC supplier message works for you. Otherwise you'd create keys for your external system that are never sent by the external system.
If the external system uses the same keys as ECC, the next question is how often do you update the supplier list in MDM? Regularly? Only once? If regularly your option with PI is a good idea. This won't duplicate supplier records as Import Manager (or MDIS) is able to identify already existing suppliers and updates the remote keys only (anyways you should check the related import map!). If it's a one time action only, you can re-open the same file multiple times for different remote systems with Import Manager. Then you wouldn't have to configure an additional connection from PI to MDM.
    Best regards

  • Changing date format for some of the date columns in a subject area

    Hi,
I have a requirement to change the date format for some of the date columns to dd-mon-yyy for only a particular subject area. Is there a feature available in the RPD which can help me do this?
In Answers - Column Properties for a Particular column of a report, we can save the style and formatting as system wide default for the particular column or the data type, but that applies across subject areas.
I tried with the config files too , but that too applies to all suject areas.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Gaurav

Why don't you create 2 logical column derived from same date physical col and then change the format for one logical column and use it in Subject Area ?

  • Add columns in the existing Customer table in a Subject Area

    Hi All,
Well I need to add two columns from Sales table(new table i created which has customer Id) and join it to the Customer Table which has the Customer Id and several columns. The Customer table was already in the RPD which has all the customer information. Now that i have this new requirement to add few columns from the Sales table to the Customer table in one Subject Area.
What i have done so far is that I imported the sales table into the rpd, made a join in PHYSICAL LAYER on the customer ID of the Sales table to the Customer id of the Customer table and simply dragged the sales table to the Customer LTS in the BMM layer(NO MORE JOINS IN BMM)and dragged and dropped the same into the Presentation layer. The customer table is linked to one fact table in that subject area. So i thought that dragging the sales table columns in the customer table LTS will work because customer is linked to one fact in that subject area.
Now, In the Answers when I dragged columns from customer & sales table I see only one record that is the first customer_id record from my Sales table but i know there are many common customer_ids between those two tables but its only picking the first customer id from the sales table.
    Any help will be appreciated..
Normally if we need to add some columns to the existing tables in one subject area what is the best approach??

  • Historical Reporting With Multiple Subject Areas

    Hi All,
I am working on to decide the best way to create repository. I do have a requirement from my client that they need to see both Current and Historical Reporting via OBIEE. I am keeping Type 2 SCD. My model consists of about 30 fact tables - each of them represents a business process/event.
    Following are my options:
    1) One Subejct Area to keep current/historical reporting. Here the joins would be based on PK/FK relationships with Effective Start and Effective End dates. There is a flag in all tables to find the most updated record. Users can use the flag to find the most updated record or use Effective Start and Effective End dates to go point in time.
    2) Create two Subject Areas - Current and Historical reporting. Current one will include the flag logic to get the most updated record in RPD
    3) Create multiple Subject Areas for each Fact table and use Combining Multiple Subject Area approach to join Subject Areas. Additionally, create one Subject Area for Historical Reporting (that will have all the tables in one SA)
I am thinking of going ahead with option 3) This will have Subject Areas for all logical facts (for Current reporting) and one Subject Area for Historical reporting.
Is this a standard design? Any inputs?

You should try both Complex folders as well as custom folders and see which gives you better performance. Discoverer SQL optimizations for example apply only on Complex folders and not on simple folders.
If you define the joins between the two tables, you can still use items from them in your Discoverer report without having to create a complex folder on them.
And finally, you can always create a view or materialized view and use that MV in your Discoverer query.
    thanks

  • Extended Subject Area is throwing error

    Hi All,
I am working on consolidation of OBIEE reports and create single RPD.
We have OBIA as primary repository. One plant is on legacy system. We have created a new schema in EBS database and loaded data to this new schema.
I created a new Physical layer, BMM and Subject area in RPD.
I can see this extended subject area in the RPD.
Whenever I am trying to run a report, I get following error -
Odbc driver returned an error (SQLExecDirectW).
    Error Details
    Error Codes: OPR4ONWY:U9IM8TAC:OI2DL65P
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 43113] Message returned from OBIS. Please have your System Administrator look at the log for more details on this error. (HY000)
But at the same time the standard Subject area work fine and give output.
Did anyone face such issue? Request help from the group on this.

Yes. I can query the tables.
When I update row count then row counts are updated successfully.
The important part is that the database tables for both the subject area are in same database, just different schema.
One subject area ( standard) gives results without any issue. The extended subject area pointing to new schema is giving error. The data is in same database.

  • User can see the subject are but nothing under the subject area.

    Hi
    I have OBIEE 11g.
I was thinking this is a very simple case where I have one subject area for which I want to create a user such that it can create analysis and reports on that subject area.
I BIAdmin can do that currently.
So I created a new user in console. Under the 'Groups' tab of this user, I choose 'BIAuthors' from the 'Parents Group Available'.
Then I logged in as this user. User was able to see the subject area but only the header. When it clicks on the expand ( + icon in tree) it expands to nothing.
So i logged into the rpd and Under Identity -Manage , and open the properties for BIAuthor. and under Permissions , I gave BIAuthor the permission to the subject area.
    That did not help.
I also opened the subject area from the presentation layer and under permission I made sure that "Everone" has Read access.
But even after a bounce the user just sees the header and it expands to nothing,
    Any suggestion.
(I was also thinking that why do I see BIAuthors in weblogic where as BIAuthor in rpd (without s ). I was thinking the rpd BIAuthor is something from 10g version.
    Thanks for all the help.

    Hi,
Better to decline the subfolder permissions from the user @answers,then user can only see the subject area but he can't access the subfolders...
    mark if helpful/correct...

  • Transfer Subject Area in BI

    Hi
Does anybody know how to transfer one Subject Area, including all the BI answers report and dashboard belonged to it, from one BI Server to another BI Server?
    Thanks

You will have to copy the RPD file from one server to another. The problem of copying the RPD is that it will overwrite anything that you have on the other server. What you probably want to do is to selectively merge the contents of the 2 RPDs. There are few ways to do this, check this post for a good start: http://oraclebizint.wordpress.com/2008/03/24/oracle-bi-ee-101332-merging-repositories-substitute-for-import-from-repository-2-way-merge-with-no-parent-part-2/

  • Navigate to BI content. Report in different Subject Areas

I have a requirement where I have to navigate to a detailed level report when I click on the column. When I place the reports in the same subject area it works absolutely fine. But according to the requirement the reports cannot be in the same subject area. So when I click on the column, all the filters on the dashboard prompts pass through the main report in SubArea1 to Detail Report in SubARea2 but the attribute value that clicked on does not pass through as a filter. I see all teh records at a detailed level and not just that attribute's records.
We are trying to implement 'Navigate to BI content' Action link from one report to another.
Both these reports are not in the same subject area (Presentation layer) though. How can be make OBIEE pass the appropriate filters to show only the needed subset of data in the second report.
This is needed for our CL, PL and Agency details report. The dashboard is from one subject area, the detail report is from another subject area. We now want to pass what the user clicked in one to the other. Please note that the dashboard prompts would get passed correctly. It is only the 'attribute' on the left side that would not.

All the columns whose values you want to pass to the detail report should be prompted in detail report and the column names should be same.
    For example
If you are clicking on Period.Year column in master report then the detail report should have Period.Year column is prompted.
Subject Areas may be different but the presentation table name and column name should be different.
    Thanks

  • Column selection from 2 subject area

Whenever i m selecting column from two subject area then for a perticular column i m getting two values ........ i want only one value which is coming from one subject area as i m having no values for the same in the other subject area......How can i do tht

When you are using union clause in analysis or combining with other subject area you suppose to have same number of columns and their datatypes with other analysis.
for datatype issues you can use cast in column expression in each analysis. If you want to add a column only from 1 analysis just add and in other analysis use dummy column with exp 0 or ''(for char) based on the datatype.
These you have to deal with each analysis.
    If helps pls mark
