Import error, only few tables created

Hi,
I did export of a DB with credentials
(Ora version - Oracle 8i EE - 8.1.7.4.0, exp scrip was run on Unix OS and it was successfull, as cited in log file and im sure all the tables were exported) The exp file was in .ZIP format and the file size is ~2.6 GB
I FTP'ed this exported file(BIN), to my machine and ran imp command on cmd prompt.
Destination m/c credentials (Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.1.0, Win XP OS)
for imp: i ran
imp userid/pwd@dbname file=dmpfilename.dmp full=yes log=log.txt
After this, only few tables were created and it erred with this msg
"IMP-00009: abnormal end of export file
Import terminated successfully with warnings."
I tried to import agian with imp cmd as
imp userid/pwd@dbname file=dmpfilename.dmp full=yes ignore=y buffer=1024000 commit=y log=log.txt
IMP-00015: following statement failed because the object already exists:
IMP-00009: abnormal end of export file
Import terminated successfully with warnings.
What I understand is I need to drop the tables and try importing again, but I have many tables and dropping is not a suitable option here.
The other option is I should create another Database and try importing the exported file.
Any better option/inputs ??
Thanks in adv..
~Pleiades

Thanks...
I tried with ignore=Y and removing full=yes
and it erred again

maybe try it with the "copy command".

  • Import Error: The document was created with an unsupported version of Word.

This is the message I get when opening up a Word doc from a cross-country client:
    *Import Error*
The document was created with an unsupported version of Word.
Unfortunately, he's out of touch for the next week so I have no idea which version he is using...although a look using BBEdit reveals this in the footer of the doc: Microsoft Word for Windows.
Is there a list of supported and unsupported versions of Word, so I can be prepared for my next encounter with this message?
Message was edited by: Alan Bucknam

If you can open it up, is the formatting of great importance, or is it just the information you need? If its info, copy from BBEdit and paste into your Pages doc. Sometimes you can open it in text edit and then save as a different format. (I think its text edit, one of the OSX word processors opens word docs ok.)
Sorry, this also appears as a problem in Numbers (believe it or not, its also a problem with Office 2007 for windows too). The explanation gets a bit complicated, but there are so many variations of how a M$ document is created. (not all docs are made by M$ products remember, but exported from other programs on different systems, even if it says "Word for windows").
Because of the varied amount of things that can be wrong (that M$ products seem to overlook, or fill in the gaps that would normally cause an error), there is no hard list of non-compatible versions.
This is just as we ( a bunch of nerds here and around the web), have found out from experimenting with different versions and such.
hope this helps and hope the copy paste or save as works for you.

  • Data pump import error with nested tables

So the problem is somewhat long :)
Actually the problems are two - why and how oracle are treating OO concept and why data pump doesn't work?
So scenario for the 1st one:
    1) there is object type h1 and table of h1
    2) there is unrelated object type row_text and table of row_text
    3) there is object type h2 under h1 with attribute as table of row_text
    4) there is table tab1 with column b with data type as table of h1. Of course column b is stored as nested table.
So how do you think - how many nested tables Oracle will create? The correct answer is 2. One explicitly defined and one hidden with system
generated name for the type h2 which is under type h1. So the question is WHY? Why if I create an instance of supertype Oracle tries to adapt
it for the subtype as well? Even more if I create another subtype h3 under h1 another hidden nested table appears.
    This was the first part.
The second part is - if I do schema export and try to import it in another schema I got error saying that oracle failed to create storage table for
nested table column b. So the second question is - if Oracle has created such a mess with hidden nested tables how to import/export to another
    schema?
Ok and here is test case to demonstrate problems above:
-- creating type h1 and table of it
SQL> create or replace type h1 as object (a number)
      2  not final;
      3  /

Tom Kyte has said it repeatedly ... I will repeat it here for you.
The fact that Oracle allows you to build object tables is not an indication that you should.
Store your data relationally and build object_views on top of them.
    http://www.morganslibrary.org/reference/object_views.html
If you model properly, and store properly, you don' have any issues.

  • ADF datacontrol Commit operation - commitng only few tables

    Hello Everyone,
    This is my requirement.
The application has several View-objects each derived from a corresponding single EO/DB TABLE. I mean that there are no joins in the view object query and just one VO-EO/table relationship. In the transaction I'm just INSERTING rows into several view objects.
All I need is that At the final commit operation, only the few tables should get committed at the DB level and not all the tables. Is there a way to do this and I know that I cannot use the generic COMMIT operation at the data control as it commits rows into all the tables.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thankyou,
    Sri

Having view objects that are to commited & not commited in separate AM as suggested by John is the solution.
    But how about this,
in beforeCommit() method, get handle to the View objects that are not to be commited and get their associated entities and set the row state to "Initialized".
Setting the row state to "Initialized" would
You can use the setNewRowState() method to mark the entity as being Initialized, which removes it from the transaction's list of pending changesCheck for same documentation in ADF Developer's guide:

  • Full Export/Import Errors with Queue tables and ApEx

I'm trying to take a full export of an existing database in order to build an identical copy in another database instance, but the import is failing each time and causing problems with queue tables and Apex tables.
I have used both the export utility and Data Pump (both with partial and full exports) and the same problems are occurring.
After import, queue tables in my schema are unstable. They cannot be dropped using the queue admin packages as they throw ORA-24002: QUEUE_TABLE <table> does not exist exceptions. Trying to drop the tables causes the ORA-24005: must use DBMS_AQADM.DROP_QUEUE_TABLE to drop queue tables error
As a result, the schema cannot be dropped at all unless manual data dictionary clean up steps (as per metalink) are done.
The Apex import fails when creating foreign keys to WWV_FLOW_FILE_OBJECTS$PART. It creates the table ok, but for some reason the characters after the $ are missing so the referencing tables try to refer to WWV_FLOW_FILE_OBJECTS$ only.
I am exporting from Enterprise Edition 10.2.0.1 and importing into Standard edition 10.2.0.1, but we are not using any of the features not available in standard, and I doubt this would cause the issues I'm getting.
Can anyone offer any advice on how I can resolve these problems so a full import will work reliably?

    Thanks for the lead!
After digging around MetaLink some more, it sounds like I'm running into Bug 5875568 (MetaLink Note:5875568.8) which is in fact related to the multibyte character set. The bug is fixed in the server patch set 10.2.0.4 or release 11.1.0.6.

    Hello All,
I want to import only the tables of one database to a new database. I did a table level export of one schema. But along with it the stored procedures, synonyms, views etc are exported. Is there any way to stop them. Or is it possible to import only the tables from the dump created?

Thanks for the feedback. I think I didnot specify the parafile with the table list while exporting. I am redoing it now. I shall update this post within 20 minutes.
