Import filename as YYYYMMDDHHMMSS_x
Is there a method to create files with such a filename at import time? I have been using this naming scheme for years and do not wish to abandon it in order to use Aperture.
You can get close. Closest I could do was YYYYMMDDHH-MM-SS_<counter>
So you have 2 extra hyphens.
Just create a custom option (when you try the import, there is an "image name" format, click it and at the bottom is "edit" where you can choose to create a new one).
So (image year)(image month)(image day)(image time)_(counter) will give what I noted above, or if you don't mind more hyphens just do (image date)(image time)_counter and you're good to go.

Why is "-2" appended to imported filenames?
When I import picture files to LR 5.2 in OS X 10.8.5, almost always, "-2" is appended to file names.
Sometimes I find files in my LR catalog twice, once with the original name, and once with "-2" appended.
I've tried tracing it different importing workflows, but so far I haven't been able to isolate the perpetrator.
Here are some of my importing workflows:
* USB cable from camera to Mac
* USB cable from card reader to Mac
With the source device connected to Mac, sometimes I open it in one of these:
- Image Capture
- LR 5.2
- iPhoto
Sometimes Image Capture, LR, or iPhoto is set to automatically recognize the attached picture source device, sometimes they are set to require manual opening.
Sometimes I create a desktop folder with the name it would have when LR imports it, sometimes the folder is a generic name.
Sometimes I move the folder with the destination LR to the final location in the directory tree, using OS X, before importing the files to the folder.
Sometimes I import files into the folder using one of the above applications, then move the folder to its final location.
Sometimes I transfer files into the folder using the OS X Finder, then move the folder to its final location.
Sometimes I import files into the folder that's already been put in its final location.
Sometimes two, or all three, of LR and iPhoto and Finde,r are all looking at the source files at the same time, when the computer is connected to the camera or to the card reader.
I haven't tested all of these methods yet, so it's not clear which of these methods might be the cause of the "-2."
In LR, I have imports set to ignore files already imported, and to create a backup copy in a specific folder that's different from the one where the LR catalog is located.
Do any users on the forum have this same issue? Which one or more of the impot methods is the cause?
TIACStaack wrote:
LR puts a -2 behind a filename if this name already exists in the folder.
Maybe you use renaming when importing and managed to customize this in a way that always leads to the same filename.
Thanks for your reply.
I'll take another look. I'll try a test and not import files into the catalog from within folders located in the OS X directory tree, where I want them to be in the catalog's directory tree. I guess this could be called "import in place."
One reason I am trying to develop a workflow that's not LR's automatic import workflow, is that LR duplicates folders as subfolders within the directory tree, when it makes the folders for the import. I've been trying to avoid this. My camera is set to make a new folder for each day. Would this confuse LR?
I don't rename files when importing.
I'll report back when I have some results. -

You can also prepare dir command and then exeucte it by using XP_CMDSHELL. This gives you file name, modified date, creation date information.

Import filenames & tags into spreadsheet
Hallo,
I have the following problem: I have many perfectly tagged files and folders on an external drive. I now want to create a list/ (excel) spreadsheet of all those files so I have an overview of what is on that external device when it is not connected to my MacBook. I think the easiest way to do so is changing dictionary to the external device in terminal and then use ls command. So now I have a nice list of all Files and folders. What I don't have and what is apparently not possible to get through terminal ist a list of all files and folders with all the assigned tags.
Any way to do this?
Kind regards
PatrickThat's probably because you, like me, are used to the stupid ways that Windows does things. Which means, things that should be simple are always difficult. It's hard sometimes for my brain to transition to the, "well Windows was hard so Mac is easier but not THAT much easier mode and ..." well things like this.
I also noticed that if you high lite several files and paste them into a non "text" file it will actually copy the -- contents -- of the files into the document even though you haven't opened up the files. This is cool too. -
Unable to import from tape under Win2000
A DBA running Oracle on Solaris used export to create a tape for
me to import into my Win2000 Oracle DB. I have not been able to
figure out what to set the import filename to in order to have
imp read off the tape drive. The other DBA suggested setting the
file parameter equal to the mount point of the tape, but I'm not
sure what that is. I tried \\.\Tape0 but that didn't work. I
have also tried to use NTBackup to read the file off tape first
but it doesn't recognize the format. Does anyone have any
suggestions on how I get get the data off of this tape?
ThanksBrad,
There are a number of formats that the tape could have been
written to in, the most prominent formats being tar and cpio
I'd ask the Solaris DBA about the format he'd used.
You may want to get a version of the Unix shell(s) and utility
running under Win2000. There's probably more than one source
for these beasts. The one I'm using is called the MKS toolkit
(see www.mks.com), and it works quite nicely with the SCSCI-based
tapes I've been using sofar. It's not exactly cheap, though.
If this is a one-time shot for you, and if you're not under
heavy stress to get it done by yesterday, you could probably
find some shareware tools that will work for you, too.
Hope that helps.
All the best

can any1 help me in getting only the filename from the whole path ?????hi ,

Pass parameter through standard page "import xml content and actions"
Dear Portal experts,
As you know, a standard portal page is configured to allow the import of XML file. It is located in the portal in the path system admin -> transport -> xml content and actions -> import
I configured a quick link u201Cimportu201D to the page so now the link http://myserver:port/irj/portal/import allows me to access directly to this screen.
What I would like to do now is to pass the parameter related to u201Cfile nameu201D through this screen meaning that I would like that http://myserver:port/irj/portal/ import/filename=C:\test.xml fills automatically the fields u201CXML fileu201D with C:\test.xml
Please do you know how to achieve this ?
Thank you very much and regardshi,
@Maksim :
When user launch an URL like http://myserver:port/irj/portal/ import/*filename=C:\test.xml, he is requested to provide username and password; as this link is a shortcut for the upload xml page, there is a check of authorization and only portal admin that have authorization and permission on this page/iview will be able to upload xml file through the URL. Hope this clarify.
@Kumar :
thank you for your answer. What a pity to not be able to pass parameter through standard portal page/iview particularly knowing that we can pass paramater through many kinds of iviews (transactional iview, url iview, VC iview...). I explored some option on file com.sap.portal.ivs.init.par but this was unsuccessful. However, thanks to this [link bellow|http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/Snippets/ComponenttouploadXMLfilewithPCD+objects], I was able to upload through URL the XML file.
The problem is that I can upload only XML file that are stored in the server not in the local user computer. My requirement is to be able to upload local XML file stored on user's computer.
If someone could provide and idea/solution, I would be very grateful.

Fm Converting Fax Id Number to Filename
Hi,
I am using FM RSPO_NUMBER_TO_FILENAME to take my spool no. as exporting parameter and importing filename. My spool no. is filled from the close_form. Spool Id is generated in close_form and passing it to above Fm and getting filename and saving that file in unix directory.
Similarly, now my output type is Fax and i got faxid from Close_form and looking for FM to take it as exporting parmeter and gives the filename, so that i can save in unix directory.
Thanks in advanceI figured it out. Fax ID number must 1st be typed in "Telephones" tab for Active Directory and then you have to copy and paste it into the Fax ID field for Unity. If you try and type the number in Unity you will get errors re: illegal carachter (spaces, -) Don't know why.

Flash CS5.5 unable to import sounds and massive animation lag
So, having reached a point where I want to add sound to my animation (which is extremely laggy for no particular reason), I find myself completely unable to import sounds of any form into Flash. "Oh, crap" I say to myself, and come onto the forums looking for a solution. Apparently importing the sound into a sound editor (ie audition) and then resaving it works, except it hasn't in my case and I'm still stuck with this stupid "Couldn't import [filename]" error.
(and my animation is extremely laggy for some reason in case you hadn't realised from the hints above. Does this have something to do with the fact that I am using blurs in the animation and then animating them with tweens, or is flash cs5.5 (and 5) just not good at rendering blurs efficiently?)In Flash, all of the animation is done at runtime, not during authoring. This means that a blur, for instance, is done when the user is looking at the movie. This is completely different from the way that video is played on a computer. All of the animation workload is on the user's processor.
If you have a normal bitmap image that you are blurring with a blur filter and then animating that bitmap on the timeline in a tween, then you are giving the processor a lot of work to do. If you import a blurred bitmap and animate that, the processor has much less work to do.
That may or may not describe the problem that you are seeing.
I have no idea what the problem is with the sound files. Can you post one of the sound files so that someone could take a look at it? -
FYI: iPhoto not as smart as Finder regarding filenames
I have a folder of 56 tiff files.
I would like to import these files into iPhoto.
I used File>Import to Library and pointed to the folder of tiff files. 17 files are imported.
I've tried this twice, once with my "main" iPhoto Library, once creating a separate library. Both times the same 17 files are imported.
I can use Preview to view all 56 files.
I've compared the "Get Info" for a successful file and a failed file and can see no difference.
I've tried dragging one tiff file into iPhoto and get the message: "Unreadable File"
I have plenty of disk space available (150+ GB). The folder of files is 56 MB.
While writing this query I discovered the "problem." My filenames have periods in them. Remove the periods and the files successfully import into iPhoto. I can do what I want to do, with minimal effort.
So, no longer a question, but a FYI in case anyone else runs into this problem. iPhoto import filenames are more restrictive than those allowed in Finder. My husband says this is a "bug"
Thanks,
Linda in MASorry but I can't confirm this behaviour.
I can import both jpegs and tiffs to iPhoto with periods in the Filename.
I renamed a file as follows:
DSC.5305.(1).jpg
I can easily drag it to the iPhoto Window and import.
I converted it to tiff (using Preview)
DSC.5305.(1).tiff
And again, I could drag and drop it to iPhoto with no issue.
I can also import both files using the File -> Import command.
I would caution that as the period is used to separate the file suffix from the file name it's generally not a good idea to use them in File names. Similarly, symbols like ~ and / have meanings to your Mac that can cause confusion and are best avoided in Filenames.

Importance of the SAVE_TEXT
Hi,
I need to append the long text in the sales order, for that i am going to use SAVE_TEXT function module. Can i directly append the text for the existed text of the sales order - or do i need to pull the long text through READ_TEXT function module for that sales order & append the new text ?
What are the important parameters i need to pass SAVE_TEXT function module to append the text for the sales order.
regards
Jayait create the text - if no text available in system - it simply inserts the text.
it append the text - if text is avialbel in system then it append the text in next line of text onwards.
if you want to create new text entirely ,if already text is available ,first delete the text ( using DELETE_TEXT ) ,then use save_TEXT FM.
Here is the simple example -> here i am deleting old text and re enter new text.

Issues with XML Content and Actions to import RRA in FPN (EP7 SPS13)
Hi,
I am having trouble using the import functionality of XML Content and Actions to transport Remote Role Assignments between Consumer Portals. Whenever I want to upload an XML file containing RRA for Roles and Groups that were already assigned to eachother, the import fails and nothing is updated. The error I get:
UMException. Data could not commit to Role: gp:/[full ID of portal role]
Anyone with experience in how to use this?
Kind regards,
Christian Staalbyhi,
@Maksim :
@Kumar :
thank you for your answer.
Cheers -
