Import PNG

I have a PDF logo with transparency I want to import into
Flash CS3.
I opened the PDF in Photoshop & resized down to 100 px
wide (I left the dpi at 300, expecting it not to matter) & then
saved the logo as a PNG.
Importing this graphic into flash, it turns out at a tiny 24
pixels wide. hmm.
I open the PNG with another graphics app & its fine,
correctly 100 px wide.
Then I go back to the PDF in Photoshop & this time
resample it to 72 DPI. Then resize to 100 px. Now it imports into
Flash CS3 correctly.
Is this a bug? is Flash using print size instead of pixel
size?
This behaviour is odd ...

Flash uses 72dpi - since that what all graphics on your
monitor are. If
you're png is set to 300dpi and it's size is 100px wide - so
when converted
to 300dpi it would be 24 pixels wide: 300 / 72 = 4.1666 100 /
4.16666 =
24
So, no theres's no bug. You want to have your images set to
72dpi.

  • Design in flash or import png files

    Hi,
I'm having someone help with the design of my site.
He wants to give me png files for the graphics.
Won't that increase the file size?
Would it be better if he designed the graphics in flash
    instead of importing png files?
Just wondering which way is recommended.
    Thanks.

depends on the design, the images, style, file size concerns
    - yes you are right, file size will
usually increase with imported bitmaps - and if they contain
    alpha, then processor/performance
    issues may arise.
Also consider that flash does not handle bitmaps very well
unless they yare at 100% with no rotation
    - so hopefully you won't need to scale or rotate them.
If the graphics can be made with vectors, then i recommend
    it.

  • Help importing PNG sequence

So I believe I have successfully accomplished importing PNG
sequences before more than once. However, this time around, I'm
losing my mind. I just successfully rendered a PNG sequence out of
Adobe After Effects CS3, roughly 130 images, and I'm attempting to
import all of them as a sequence to FlashCS3. However, when I do
this, every image is duplicated with a graphic, and the graphics
are about 50x larger than the original PNG size. I cannot figure
out what I am doing wrong, I've never come across this problem. If
anyone has any advice, please let me know; it will be greatly
    appreciated.
I also wanted to know how to move the position of images or
movie clips on multiple key frames at one time. If that makes
sense. As this PNG sequence for example.... If I don't like the
position of the sequence, I have to manually click each key frame,
and move the selected position... any help.
    Thank you

your first problem here is likely that the images you've
rendered are not set to 72dpi, standard screen resolution. Flash
will automatically render the image at a size related to 72, eg. if
your images are higher res they will be shown larger to compensate.
the second issue can be resolved by using the 'edit multiple
frames' button and selecting all items in the timeline you wish to
move, including multiple layers and frames. to do so, turn on
'onion skinning' place the playhead in the first frame you wish to
move, extend the handle to the last frame you wish to move - then
turn on the edit multiple frames button (third option in the
timeline toolbar) - then select all of the layers and frames you
wish to move in the timeline - now all the items on the stage
should be shown as selected, you can now click and drag the items
all together or use the arrow keys to nudge the images to a new
    position.

  • Poor resolution on imported .png graphics

    Hello fellow Pages users:
I am importing .png graphics made in an opensource drawing program. The original graphics are .svgs and then they are converted to .png graphics. When I look at the graphics in Preview they look fine, but when I drag them into Pages they become 'fuzzy' looking.
Does anyone have any idea why this is hapenning or what I can do about it.
Any help will be VERY much appreciated!!

SVGs are vector graphics. They are rasterized when you save as PNG. Try converting to PDF instead of PNG.

  • Import PNG files

It would be nice if I could import PNG files.
Currently I work around by converting the PNG to TIF, so it's servicable given that I don't do this frequently.
This isn't high on my priority list. Nothing I would call my "workflow" include PNGs. When I want to import a PNG it's most often becuase I or somebody else had some JPG "snapshots" and when editing saved them as a PNG instead of recompressing as a new JPG.

A number of us 'Regulars' here, have asked for the impor of PNGs. Especially since they are used by LR for such things as End Panel Markers and ID Plates. I feel this will come, but as you say, it is low priority.

  • Imported pngs can be compressed, what about pngs added externally?

I love how I can import a PNG file with transparency and then
give it jpeg compression. it keeps the transparency, and the file
size is a lot smaller. What are my options when it comes to
importing external PNGs with transparency? Will I have to put each
one in its on swf and then load the swf instead? I would like to
avoid this step if possible, thanks!

You can import png directly and maintain transparency.
It would be actually much quicker to try than post and wait
    for reply, isn't ?

    maybe I didn't word my post correctly...When I import a png
to the library, i can give it jpg compression and maintain the
transparency. I want to load png files from an external source at
runtime, using the Loader class. Is there a way to give them the

each png in its own swf and compress it, then load the swf's at

  • Importing PNG into Flash = Color loss

Is anyone out there having this problem: When importing png
files into flash there is a subtle but significant color loss.
Particularly in images that contain alot of Black. It's as if Flash
is using a different color space to Photoshop even though color
management is off in the original photoshop document. When the
PNG's are imported into flash they are always washed out and much
lighter than the original. This is more obvious when importing
images which contain alot of Black. I've been experiencing this
problem for years now and it is sooooo frustrating infact I'm
trying despeatly hard to keep this message calm. Is anyone out
there having the same issue? Im using Mac OSX 10.4 Photoshop CS and
    Flash 8?

PNG's are badly designed and often suffer from color
    problems. You may need
to use a different color space in photoshop that is
    compatible with Flash.
It's not a Flash problem .. and not really even a Photoshop
    problem. . its a
    problem in PNG's themselves.
See here for an interesting article about why PNG files are
    stuffed...

  • Best practices for importing .png screen shots into FrameMaker 9?

I'm new to importing .png screen shots into FrameMaker, and also new to FrameMaker 9. To compound things, I have engineers giving me screen shots taken on Linux machines, using a client like NX to get to Linux. My screen shots are coming in fuzzy and instead of trying to troubleshoot what's going wrong here, I was wondering if someone could quickly tell me what normally works with FrameMaker 9 and .png on a Windows system so I can troubleshoot from there.
That is, let's say I'm capturing a screen shot on a Windows system and I use some tool (Paint Shop Pro X, SnagIt, Alt-PrintScreen, or whatever).  I save the screen shot as .png and then import by reference into FrameMaker 9.
What dpi do I use in the capturing program?
What dpi do I use when I import by reference into FM?
What if that makes the screen shot too large/too small: Is it better to use the FrameMaker Graphics > Scale solution, to resize it in my capture program, or to retake the screen shot?

Bringing screenshots into Frame documents has four major considerations:
how to perform the original screen capture
how to post-process it in a graphics editor
what graphical object model (and file format) to store it in
making sure it isn't damaged by your workflow
    1. Screen Cap, typically of dialog boxes ...
... used to be simple; isn't anymore.
Dialogs used to have identical pixel dimensions on all user screens. You hit Alt[PrntScrn] in Windows and you got a one pixel per pixel 24-bit color image on the clipboard.
More recent operating systems now have much more scalability in the GUI. So either capture at what the default user sees, or at the optimal presentation enlargement, which might be precisely 2x the default display.
    2. Post
Before you even start this step, you need to know exactly how you will be presenting the final document out of Frame:
    B&W? Color?
What dimensional size on the page?
If hardcopy, what are the optimal parameters of graphical images for your print process? If web or PDF, various other considerations arise. I'll presume print.
In our workflow, the print engine is 600 dpi bitmap. We normally present images at one column width, about 3.5in. Our PDF workflow passes 600 bitmap untouched, but resamples gray and color to 200 dpi. I tend to use 600 dithered bitmap, but always test if there's any doubt.
Chances are the screencap bitmap, at your native printing res, is too small. There is no "dpi" associated with clipboard images. Once pasted into an image editor, the editor should provide the ability to declare the dpi (Photoshop does, both at paste, and via "resize without rescale"). If your image editor doesn't, fire it. If you can't see and control dpi, you have no real control over this workflow.
Plan to save the final image in a format that at least supports linear dimensions (like EPS) if not explicit dpi (TIFF). Save out the image at the exact size you intend to use at import in Frame. Do you know how Frame scales objects? I don't. So do your scaling where you have control over how.
Play with the defined "dpi" until the linear dimensions match your planned import frame. If that dpi passes through your workflow unmolested, you may not need to perform any resizing.
If you need to convert from 24-bit color to bitmap (at your printing resolution), I'd suggest using error diffused dithering converting to your target res, as this tends to preserve the hard edges in dialog boxes and rasterized text.
If you need to re-scale, I'd suggest scaling up by an integer multiple, using "nearest neighbor", to the nearest size just higher than your target dpi. Then rescale bi-linear down to your target size.
    3. File Format
The main consideration here is compression, followed by color depth and size encoding.
Screenshots tend to have expanses of flat colors, and hard edges. These objects compress reasonably well using repeat-count compressions (like ZIP or RLE). They tend to get damaged by curve-matching compression, like JPEG, because they typically contain no curves through color space. Hard edges get fuzzy or pick up ringing artifacts.
So don't use JPEG (and what compression will your workflow use?). I tend to use TIFF(ZIP) for screenshots.
Avoid indexed color (4-bit, 8-bit or 15/16-bit) color.
Don't use GIF. It has no size encoding. The usual presumption is that GIF is 72 dpi, which makes importing it a nuisance, and at least a minor math exercise. Plus, it's indexed color, and may scale poorly downstream.
Experiment. See what looks optimal in the final product.
    4. Workflow
As you can see throughout the above, all your careful planning can be for nought it your save-as-PDF, distiller or print shop process resamples everything down to 90 dpi. You have to know what's happening, and how to optimize for it, or you probably won't like the result.
We once had graphics showing up at 10 (yes ten) dpi in print.
Turned out the print engine could handle JPEG 5 but not JPEG 2000.
We had to hastily back-port images until a software upgrade fixed it.

  • Importing PNG files into CS4

I import PNG files into the library. CS4 automatically creates a symbol and gives it a generic name (e.g. Symbol 670) when the PNG file name is menu_001.png. Is their any way for Flash to keep the name as the original png file as the symbol is automatically created?

It IS a Sony NX5U camera! Way to be a mind reader.
Obviously the video has already been shot. How would you suggest converting the audio to .wav... seperate the two in Pro, cut out the video, export that way, and then import it back in?
Thanks so much for the help!!

Why did you delete chart.png from your library. The object of
importing images (gif, png, jpg, etc.) to a new movie library is to
    use them:
    Here are some instructions.
    1. Import the image(s) you want in your movie to your movie
    library.
    2. Modify > trace bitmap each imported image that you will
use, BEFORE you make it a symbol.
    3. If you are planning to use that image several times, make
    it a Movie Clip symbol.
    4. Do not delete an image from your library unless you don't
    want it in the movie.
    5. If you delete graphic symbols and/or movie_clip symbols
that you need in the movie, any and all symbols created for the
    image(s) will automatically delete too.
    I hope this helps.

  • Can't import PNG, No File in Movie

I've just opened a project to continue working on it and I get a "no movie in file" message - and also if I click on the actual sequence to try to open it, followed by an out of memory message. (I've worked on project previously with no memory problems). All my movie clips seem to open - but I also get a file import error if I try to import any of the PNGs I use for the title screen or credits. My mac seems to have gone wonky since the last security update, as my dreamweaver has missing icons on the toolbar and my itunes has missing picture images when in the store (they just show broken link icon). I guess this is all related. I've tried disk utility and keychain first aid - but no joy.
I could really do with working on this FCP project but in its present condition it looks like I'd have to recreate it - but I cant import a simple PNG. All my previous versions of the project do the same thing. Anyone any ideas?

Hi thanks for the reply - the PNGs are RGB fireworks files - files that I use in every project but now I can't import them. I've tried the loading older autosaves, ditching the FCP prefs and render files. No joy - any other ideas?
If I hadn't imported these PNGs before I'd think it wasn't possible, but I know they should import... I could try bringing these in in a different format - but that wouldn't solve why I can't import and of course my sequence file gives the "no movie in file" error which is strange.
I've done quite a bit of tweaking to this project so I'm hoping I can get into it somehow and not have to start recreating everything... OMG.

  • Coloring imported PNG icons

I have imported a few png files (using File > Place) that are simple black shapes with transparent backgrounds, and I am now trying to change the shapes' colors. I've done an hour's worth of Google searching and tinkering to no avail. This seems like such a simple task, but I must be missing something.
For one thing, InDesign is not isolating the shape as it's own path separate from its transparent background; I can only select the bounding box (blue one) and the content box (brown one), both of which are just square boundaries around the object. I eventually was able to use Object > Clipping Path > Options to isolate the shape into a path, but it was either creating way too many anchor points or slightly deforming the shape. It didn't matter anyway, because the fill color was still not changing.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Thanks for your help.

You talk all the times of shapes. PNG do not have any shapes, they are pixels. Why are you using PNGs?
If you want to recolor pixels in InDesign, they have to be saved as PSD or TIFF without layers and that means also without transparency in grey or bitmap mode in Photoshop.
If you have forms, you should do it in Illustrator, change there the color, save as AI and place it.

most likely it's a resolution thing. Flash only get 72dpi so
    images
in higher resolution might be scaled to redo the size maths.
