Importing address files

Hi there,
I am trying to import an address file (CSV format) into my Blackberry with no avail.  I exported my mobile address book as a CSV file and have created (according to a Blackberry help site) a Blackberry Internet Services account (T-mobile).  According to the Blackberry website, there should be an Address Tab option - it is not there though.  Is there anybody who knows how to get phone numbers imported into the Blackberry without having to do this manually?
My mail client is Lotus Notes :-( and the phone numbers I am refering to are not in my Notes directory either.
Thanks in advance
Christian

Hello Christian I’m also trying CSV format but i cannot reach my goal. I feel there is no proper guidance to do this...I'm eager to know the great answers of your question..
Thanks

  • Address book .... importing text file

I am designing an address book which opens a text file called AddressBook.txt which reads in the information in the following format:
    lastname,firstname,street,city,state,zip,phonenumber,birthday,persontype
    lastname2,firstname2,street2,city2,state2,zip2,phonenumber2,birthday2,persontype2
etc. (with a maximum entries of 500)
I am having a problem reading in the information without the commas and wrapping to the next line. I can either use the BufferedReader or Scanner to input the file and as you can see below, my code is not complete yet. I can't figure out how to code the storeAddress() method in order to get the addressBookEntries[] to include the necessary information for outputting, sorting, etc. If I can get the information read into the addressBookEntries[], I think I will probably be able to proceed in the rest of the required tasks (i.e. sorting by last name, searching by last name, etc.)

Ok, I have changed my code to reflect your suggested changes, but I'm still unsure how to use the findInLine you suggested.... This is all very new to me and I've been looking on the java website for suggestions, but I'm still stumped on how to pull this together. I'm unsure on how to set the lastname, firstname, etc. for retrieval...

  • To import addresses, need format of tab delimited file

I am trying to import addresses from my G3 PB Mozilla App. I exported addresses on G3 to both ldif and tab-delimited files and then attached to an email message which I sent to myself. I received email on Mac mini, but the 2 files showed up inline, not as attachments. I copied the ldif portion to a text file; ditto for tab-delimited. I tried importing into Address Book, but got message that format was not valid.
Can't I just edit the tab-delimited file in TextEdit, save as RTF, and get Address Book to recognize the data?
    Thanks,
    Owen

For your addressbook, export the files to vCard on the PowerMac, then bring them over to your Mac Pro. For your iPhoto, copy the Users -> yourname -> Pictures folder to your Desktop on the Mac Pro, and open iPhoto on the Mac Pro holding the command and option keys.  Select the library file from that Pictures folder and open it.  It should import all the pictures into iPhoto as part of the rebuild process.  Other PowerPC to Intel migration issues are covered here: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2295

  • Address book won't re-import .abbu file

Searching in my address book didn't work anymore so I exported the whole address book as an .abbu file and deleted all entries. Now when I try to import that file, it looks for busy for a few minutes and then ends up having no entries. I tried disconnecting from the internet as I read somewhere to avoid interference with iCloud. I also tried creating a new account and import it there so I could change it into vCards, but it wouldn't import there either. It's a 1.3 GB file. I don't have a back-up file or something I can use instead (which wouldn't be up to date) and unfortunately it already synced with my iPhone which has now an empty address book. I also opened the .abbu file and tried to import the .abcdg files but that doesn't work either

    Putnik,
Thanks!  This was the exact solution for me.  Problem: .abbu loaded then disappeared in a few seconds.  As soon as I read your post, it was obvious that iCloud was wiping out the reload, because it had taken a fresh—and empty—copy right after I created the .abbu file.  My configuration is basically a MacPro via Ethernet to an Airport.  A MacBook  via Ethernet and WiFi to the Airport, and an iPhone WiFi to the airport.  The situation at it’s worst had no data in the MacBook, MacPro, iPhone Or iCloud.  What I did have was the good .abbu file.
    My solution:
       1. Move the good abbu file to the MacBook.
       2. Pull power from the Airport—kills all local Ethernet and WiFi.
       3. Put the iPhone in airplane mode just in case—probably not needed.
       4. Do a local import from the .abbu file on the MacBook to the address book on the MacBook .
I now have a clean copy of my thousands of irreplaceable contacts on the MacBook .
I'm pretty sure that since the data in the MacBook address book has most recent date stamp, all will be well, i.e., the MacPro, iPhone and iCloud will  sync to the MacBook . But I figure good logic says to think that through a little more, pour a few fingers of Scotch, then synch everything else tomorrow.  The contacts  on the MacPro are what I need for work now.
<Apple: BTW, You did iCloud well, solid, and fast‑Woulda been nice if you had documented how it REALLY works  also. Need any good tech writers who understand both software and hardware?   >

  • Import csv file to address book

I am migrating from outlook to Thunderbird. The import all mails and addresses is not working. So I exported by email addresses from my server to a csv file. I imported the csv file in Thunderbird. I have to OK every address for the import. Is there a way to import in one click

If you exported all your contacts to a single csv file, you should be able to import the file in a single step, although you may have to edit the csv file before doing so:

  • Import csv file in Address Spaces in an Exchange 2007 Send Connector

hello , i must put more than 300 domains in the addres space of a Send connector.
is possible have a csv file with the 300 domains and a powershell script to import this file in the address space of one send connector?
    example csv file :
    cepsa.es
    repsol.com
    parsi.es
    Regards
    Thansk in advance
    mcse 200x + mesaging 2000 2003 2007 2010

    Hi
At First, you CSV should be set as the format like
    Name
    cepsa.es
    repsol.com
    parsi.es
If you would like to set a new Send Connector. you can simply do
    New-SendConnector -Name ConnectName -AddressSpace ((Import-CSV <PathOfCSV>) | ForEach {$_.Name})
If you would like to add to a Send Connector that already existed, Please run
    $al = (Get-SendConnector -Identity <ConnectName>).AddressSpaces
    $al += (Import-CSV <PathOfCSV>) | ForEach {$_.Name})
    Set-SendConnector -Name ConnectName -AddressSpace $al
    Cheers

The first script is still working as it should under Exchange 2013 when a send connector is created for the first time.
The second part of adding (or removing)  address spaces from an existing send connector was a little bit trickier.
    the following script did it:
    Get-SendConnector "ConnectorName" | Set-SendConnector  -AddressSpace ((Import-CSV <PathOfCSV>) | ForEach {$_.Name})
Watch out! this command also removes domains which are not present in the csv file!

  • Import address book data from Metadata cache files?

    Hi,
A friend of mine has a PM Cube and the hard drive got some bad sectors. I believe he still had 10.4.8 on it. I was able to pull off most of the data from the bad drive but I have no addressbook.data file. I do have all the cache files in the Metadata folder, is there any way to import these files? The new drive I installed now has 10.4.9 on it.
    Thanks for your help!

    ok, try the following:
    quit ab in leopard
select that address book folder in your old tiger home directory, then bring it to your leopard homefolder in the same location, i.e. homefolder/library/application support/address book
then in that newly moved ab folder locate the following two items and remove them: Metadata folder and AddressBook-v22.abcddb file
then launch ab in leopard and see if that solves your issue
    hope this helps

  • How to import csv-file in Numbers 3.2.2.

I start using Numbers in stead of Excel. I would like to import csv-files from my bank, but when I open the csv-file in Numbers, everything is imported in the same cell. I composed a testfile: 01/08/2014,”text”,”more text”,”even more text” in Pages, exported to a textfile and changed the extension from .txt in .csv. It did not help, everything was in the same cell. What must be changed to become successful in importing csv-files? I am using Numbers 3.2.2. and an iMac with 2,8 GHz Intel Core i7 processor and 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 memory with OS X 10.9.4.
    Thanks, Joan Voormolen

You can do this using Pages. Without using outside scripts or functions. The Pages Find/Replace function will let you change the delimiter on the data in your file.
Open the file in Pages. Click Show Invisibles. (this will show you the delimiter used in the file)
If you see a * as the delimiter, that is a space. Some data files are space delimited. This is a really poor way to delimit numerical data files.
If you see a fat arrow to the right, the file is Tab delimited
Obviously, a comma is not a hidden character. Some files are comma delimited
Whatever else might have been used as a delimiter (for example a semi colon is sometimes used) will be apparent.
The delimiter should be something that is not used anywhere else in the "data"... text, numbers, etc., you want to delimit. Numbers considers a comma as a valid delimiter for files with the suffix .csv . It considers a tab as a valid delimiter with files with the suffix .txt . It does not consider spaces a valid delimiter in with any file suffix. But some programs use odd delimiters (semi colon, colon, double spaces, etc) as delimiters.
Use the Find command, then Find/Replace as you need to create that delimiter numbers recognizes. Let's say a semi colon was used as a delimiter. Enter the current delimiter (semi colon)  into the Find box. Pages should highlight all the instances of your entry. Enter a comma (to create comma delimited data file) in the Replace box. You should now see a comma as the delimiter.
Important Don't forget, any other comma used in the file will also be considered a delimiter. (a comma in 1,000 for example). So check the data. If you see a comma used another way you will want to eliminate that BEFORE you do the "comma as delimiter" replacement. If you have 1,000, do a find/replace with comma as the find, nothing as the replace, first. THEN do the replacement of the semi colon.
Now comes the "tricky" part from what I could see. You want to save this new file with a suffix of .csv. (Export the file) Numbers will only open a comma delimited file with separated data (by comma) if it's suffix is .csv. Pages only gives you limited export options and puts the file suffix on for you automatically. CSV is not one of the options!
Choose Text. Pages will name the file .txt. Quit Pages. Go to the file on your desktop (or wherever you saved it). Change the file suffiix from .txt to .csv.
That's it. Open the file with Numbers. Numbers will create a separate column for everything between the comma's.
You can use this same method to alter your data file before you import it into Numbers. For example, one file I wanted to import had time=xxx . I only wanted the actual time, not the text attached to it, in my spreadsheet. I did a find/replace with "time=" as the find. A comma as the replace. Even though "time=xxx" is one "word", Pages identified the "time=" within the word to allow the replacement.
Numbers does not provide a "choose delimiter" function when opening a file. Instead it automatically uses the standard delimiter based on the file suffix. CSV means Comma, so if the file is named .csv it will only look for and use a comma as the delimiter to put the data into separate columns. I believe .txt uses only a tab as the delimiter. In the above example you could find/replace to a Tab. Then Export to Text. And numbers will open the data into columns the way you want, without the extra step of renaming the file on your desktop.
While some files use a second space (ie two in a row) as a delimiter that's a nasty way to delimit. You always want a specific delimiter that is not used within the data element.
The above is to import numerical data into separate columns. You could use the same method to manipulate a file that contains text. Let's say you had a file with the suffix .txt. In the file are names and addresses.  John Smith 246 Rose Road . You want Name in one column. Address in another.  Look at all the spaces, which ones should be delimiters which not? Are there any delimiters in the file?
If you open with Pages and choose show invisibles you can see. You might see John Smith --> 246 Rose Road. (the --> will look like a fat arrow in Pages). Numbers will open this file, IF it has .txt as the suffix, based on the Tab,  with name in one column, Address in another.
Or you might see John*Smith**246*Rose*Road. Even though the creator of this intended two spaces to be a delimiter Numbers does not recognize that. Numbers will put everything into one column. The fix? In Pages, put a tab between name and address. Find/replace two spaces with Tab. Export, as Text.
Based on what you see (with show invisible active) in Pages, you can use the Find/Replace function to create the specific delimiter you want (tab or comma). You can use that function to manipulate the file easily so the data you want shows up in separate columns. You may need to get clever to accomplish the unique delimiters. You might even need to do two passes with Find/Replace.
In the instance above  if there was only one space between each element. (not two as a pseudo delimiter) You could replace all spaces with a tab in Pages. Export as Text.  Numbers will open that file with a column for each word (one for John, one for Smith). Then  "Merge" the two cells (columns) you want to put back together.

  • How can I move my address file and mail folders from one drive image to the active drive?

I have a drive with recovered data from a crashed drive. How do I import the Thunderbird address file to the new, current drive ( also the mail folders ) ?

Look at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-tb#w_how-to-find-your-profile to locate your profile on the recovered disk.
If you are just starting TB with a new profile, the simplest thing to do would be to copy the recovered profile to the directory where your current profile is located. Then switch; see https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/using-multiple-profiles to switch to the other profile
If you have stuff in your current profile you need to save or merge, let me know and I will give you further instructions.

  • Where are contacts in my Personal Addresses file and why do my email addresses differ than the ones I reinstalled in my Personal Address file?

I lost my Personal Address file in Cyber Space and all of my contacts. I reinstalled my contact information into a new Personal Address file and want to make sure I save a copy of the file in case the file gets lost again.
Also, when I created a new email and typed in the first few letters of the address contact, it automatically opened up the persons contact but in a form that is different than what I entered into my personal address book and is not able to be sent. It showed the email address as, <" m*****"@hotmail.com> . There is the symbol " in front of their email name and in front of the @ symbol in the email address, which is not what I installed in my personal address book. I had these kind of emails in the Collected Addresses file which I'm guessing caused my problem to start with. I do not need to have a Collected Address file. Somehow I must have hit the wrong keyboard key and created this problem. I do not want to uninstall and reinstall Thunderbird in fear of loosing all of my contacts again. I spent two days reinstalling my contacts in the Personal Address file and even then information is missing. So now I have to contact everyone and request phone numbers and home addresses and install all of them again.
As a final note, I deleted all of the addresses in the Collected Addresses file. Can you tell me where they may be saved at so I can make sure they are gone and not interfering with my new Address Book and function of my email account?

The Personal Address Book is stored in your local disk drive; "cyber space" doesn't come into it.
Was it just the Address Book that was lost? Did your email account settings remain intact? Or did you lose the entire profile?
All of your data is stored in a set of files known as the profile. It's unusual for just one element of it to go missing. Any query about saving or protecting data will generally be answered by guiding you to backup your entire profile.
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-tb
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Files_and_folders_in_the_profile_-_Thunderbird
It's possible to single out address book files for independent backup, but you'll need to surgically dissect them from your profile and know where to insert them in order to restore them.
    PAB → abook.mab
    CA → history.mab
user defined address books → abook-''n''.mab where ''n'' is a number
A safer option for a partial backup might be to export the relevant address books.
In the Address Book, select an address book, then go to '''Tools|Export''', enter where you want the exported addresses to go. Repeat for each address book you want to preserve.
Thunderbird likes the LDIF file format which exports and imports cleanly. The main alternative, CSV, is good for transporting data to or from other address books, but you'll have to take care to get the imported data to feed into the correct data fields. For instance, many users find that their email addresses are posted into the Nickname field. Have you checked your address books to confirm that all the data are where they should be?
The Collected Addresses book, IMHO is like the lint filter in a tumble dryer. Best way to use it is to keep it empty; periodically examine it, move useful addresses to a proper address book and dispose of the cruft you don't need. If you let it grow, you'll have trouble finding the really useful addresses in amongst all the chaff.
There is an add-on that might recover a deleted address book, but I can't recall which one it is. Hopefully someone else will chip in?
    sfhowes? ;-)

  • Import Command for importing XML files to server

    Hi All,
Please help me in importing the files to MDS repository.
i am trying to import a xml file from my C:\JDeveloper903\jdevhome\jdev\myprojects\oracle\apps\ar\irec\webui to the server. i have a confusion like from where(location) i should run the command ?? is that is from $JAVA_TOP or $APPL_TOP/mds??? or local drive?
and also i have moved my XML files from local Jdeveloper to server using FileZilla to the location /oraweb/u09/appldev2/oadev2comn/java/oracle/apps/ar/irec/webui in ASCII mode. and then i was using following command to import , from $JAVA_TOP,it says import completed , but when i check from TOAD by jdr_utils.printDocument('/oracle/apps/ar/irec/webui/DownloadPG'); it throws an error - Could not find document /oracle/apps/ar/irec/webui/DownloadPG.
java oracle.jrad.tools.xml.importer.XMLImporter /oraweb/u09/appldev2/oadev2comn/java/oracle/apps/ar/irec/webui/DownloadPG.xml -username "apps" -password apps -dbconnection "(description=(address_list=(address=(community=tcp.world)(protocol=tcp)(host=utx001dod008.uson.usoncology.int)(port=1540)))(connect_data=(sid=OADEV2)))" -rootdir  /oraweb/u09/appldev2/oadev2comn/java/oracle/apps/ar/irec/webui
Please suggest me the correct way of doing it..
Your help in this regard is greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
I believe all your questions are answered in [Oracle Application Framework Personalization Guide|http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25516_14/current/acrobat/115fwkpg.pdf], Chapter 9.
To use the import tool, copy the XML file to the server. It is recommended you copy it to $APPL_TOP/<directory> (for example, $APPL_TOP/personalizations), and run the import command from this directory. For the path, you need to give the full path of the XML file you want to import (for example, if you have copied the file to $APPL_TOP/personalizations, then the path according to your first post should be $APPL_TOP/personalizations/oracle/apps/ar/irec/webui/DownloadPG.xml).
BTW, you can import from your local PC using import.bat file.
I would also suggest you review the following thread for similar topic.

  • Mav Contacts does not import csv file

Trying to import my Outlook exchange contacts to Mavericks Contacts.  Exported from outlook to excel. Saved excel file to csv format.  Tried to import csv file to Mavericks Contacts:  Error message says the csv file is not compatible.  Also imported the csv file to Numbers and saved again as another csv file.  Same error message.  Suggestions?

The following was copied from the Contacts Help.
Import contact information saved or exported from other apps. The files can be in LDAP Interchange Format (LDIF) or text format (tab-delimited or comma-separated value (CSV)).
If you’re importing a tab-delimited or CSV file, make sure it’s formatted correctly using a text editor such as TextEdit.
Remove any line breaks within a contact’s information.
Make sure that fields in a tab-delimited file are separated by a tab, instead of by another character. Don’t include spaces before or after tabs.
Make sure that fields in a CSV file are separated by a comma, instead of by another character. Don’t include spaces before or after commas.
Make sure all addresses have the same number of fields. Add empty fields as needed.
In Contacts, choose File > Import, select the file, change the encoding if necessary, then click Open.
If you’re importing a text file, review the field labels.
If the first card contains headers, make sure the headers are correctly labeled or marked “Do not import.” Any changes you make to this card are made to all cards in the file. To not import the headers card, select “Ignore first card.”
To change a label, click the arrows next to the label and choose a new label. If you don’t want to import a field, choose “Do not import.”

  • Can't import .jpg files from iPhoto Library

What is the meaning of the error message I invariably get when attempting to import a photo file? It goes like this:
"The file could not be imported: The file “Macintosh HD/Users/alex/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals/2006/20060415 To Aigina with grandad and grandma/DSC04837.JPG” can’t be imported; QuickTime couldn’t parse it: -2048"
    Many thanks, people.

One more thing: I went into iPhoto's preferences, in Advanced, and checked the first option (Importing: Copy files to iPhoto Library folder when adding to library). I then added one photo to the library.
Then, from iMovie, I selected that newly added photo and bam! it was in! So, I guess, iMovie can't handle correctly iPhoto Library photos if they have not been copied into the iPhoto Library folder structure, correct? Is that what the expected behavior of iMovie HD should be? or a bug to be addressed in future upgrades?
    Many thanks, as always.
