Importing and removing photos in Photoshop elements 9

Im sorry, but i dont completely understand your answer, although it was a little helpful.
The first sentence you advised to make sub folders in windows program.
Im pretty sure thats what ive done. But i thought it would automatically update to PSE. You mentioned it would not. Thankyou for that part.
I have cleared/re organised my windows picture folders and organised them into sub folders but when i went into PSE the old pic files and folders were showing there - except they advised no picture or data is available.
So this confuses me as there is too much files in PSE now and i cant seem to get rid of them.
The other concern is the new photos i have loaded into windows pictures program, how do i get them into PSE. This is really hard to explain in email., so i do apologise if i dont make sense or repeat myself.
But my main concern is if PSE doesnt update why does it keep old pic folders in the program if nothing is available.
i tried to uninstall and then reinstall and start teh program all over again with my newly organised windows folders but the old stuff remianed even though i uninstalled the program ????

If you want to Organize your photos with PSE Organizer you need to make any folder changes from within the Organizer program with the Move command, not from Windows Explorer.
PSE Organizer is only a database and it does not actually keep your photos it only keeps a pointer as to their location and a thumbnail of the photos. When you move your photos around in Windows Explorer that have previously been logged into the Organizer database the Organizer has no way to know that you made all these changes.
Uninstalling/reinstalling the program is not going to fix this as the uninstall does not delete the database catalog.
Your best option at this point if you want to use the Organizer is to create a new catalog and import your photos to the new catalog. Use File>>Catalog and select New to create the new catalog. Use File>>Get Photos and Videos>>By Searching to reload your photo pointers. Choose the appropriate location to search. It will take some time (possible a few hours) to regenerate all the thumbnail views of your photos once they are imported if you have a large number of photos. Just let it finish Generating Thumbnails before trying to use the program.
To improve program performance Go to Edit>>Preferences>Media-Analysis and un-check all options. They are a huge resource hog on new catalogs. Also check the backup\sync option and uncheck it for now. You will see a improved system once the thumbnails have completed.
Your other concern about loading new photos into PSE Organizer depends on how and where you initially load the photos. If from a camera or a card reader PSE should detect that and you should choose to run the PSE Organizer from the dialog window that opens when connecting your camera or card reader.

In that release, I am able to use enhance/brightness and contrast, and when I slide the contrast to 100%, I get a pure black and white image of my photo. I Photoshop 11, which I just purchased today, I am unable to get a pure black and white image, only grayscale. I cut pictures out of wood, and it's fundamentally necessary that I can contrast pictures into pure black and white. How do I do that in Photoshop 11? There was a change made a few versions ago where Brightness and Contrast were improved so that they did not clip values so quickly. This was intended to improve how Brightness and Contrast worked for photographs, but it makes it work less well for purposes such as channel manipulations or printmaking.
In Photoshop there is a Legacy check box in Brightness/Contrast to make it work the "old" way when that is desired. It looks like that check box isn't in Photoshop Elements, which is what you're actually using. I'm not sure if there is a way to get the Legacy behavior in Elements, so you'll want to ask over in the Photoshop Elements forum. -
How do I resolve this error while importing iPhoto 11 photos into Photoshop Elements 11?
I am trying to import my iPhoto library into Elements. It gets part way through the process and then tells me that the import failed and provides the following message:
2090 Media files have been imported. 19 Media files were not imported because the either already present in the catalog or are not supported
It unfortunately give you no indication about what you can do to resolve or fix this problem. Can someone provide some guidance here?Hi, I am not a user of elements however my wife is. She has been complaining of this issue since we have over 75000 pictures and 15000 will not import into the catalog. After searching forum after forum I could not find a solution. So I gave it some thought. After a little testing I found out why. Remember that Elements catalog is like a long list of file names. Like many people who take lots of pictures unless you sit and rename every picture to a unique file name then you will have this problem. Example: Your camera shoots pictures and names them Img_0001, Img_0002, Img_0003 etc. when you download them to a folder called "76 class reunion" and add to elements. Then delete the pictures from your camera and take new ones. Your camera starts again with Img_0001, Img_0002, Img_0003 etc. You import them to a folder called "78 trip to thailand". Then try adding them to Elements and the message "...media files were not imported because they are already Most cameras keep numbering up but not all. At some point they repeat so it could be a year in between before your pictures present...."
Or course they are after thousands of picutres you will duplicate the files names several times. Just rename the image files in "78 trip to thailand" to be like 1978-Thailand-img_0001, 1978-Thailand-img_0002 etc and then import/add to elements and success. You might ask why they are in differing folders I am importing them from it should catalog the folder and file. Well I could go into a long discussion about databases however just know this. If you try to copy Img_0001 from "78 trip to thailand" to the folder "76 class reunion" you will get a message saying do you want to overwrite the file. This is because they have the same name (can exits in different folders but not the same). Elements takes all the file names and places them in a list so each file name is UNIQUE and cannot be duplicated. Then it catalogs where they are found (ei the folder/directory).
If you are now depressed that you need to rename all your files one at a time. Try Bulk Rename Utility. It is great and has many renaming capabilties to rename files to your delight. -
Removing duplicate photos in photoshop elements 4
is there a easy way to remove duplicate photos in Photoshop elements 4, i have over 20,000 photos but really only 5000-6000 and 3-4 duplicates of each and i think they have been renamed and haven't found a duplicate photo/file remover that will do it any suggestions

I have PSE 4 on an old laptop so I took a quick look and my conclusion is no v4 does not have Suggest Photo Stacks.
Find with Visual Similarity is in v4 and I did do a Catalog > Recover with the build Similarity Index choice as preparation for using that Find feature. However using Visual Similarity on any signficant number of photos would seem very tedious. Of course it could be done systematically on a few photos each time over an extended number of days - but still tedious. -
How do I do to import my key words to all my photos from photoshop elements 10 organizer to to bridge ?
I have downloaded photoshop CC and Bridge to test it but can not find out how to get my key words I have to all my photos, in to bridge.

Import photos iPhoto - Photoshop Elements
Hello,
I'm using Photoshop Elements 12 trial version. I would buy it but i got one problem with the automatic import function in Photoshop Elements.
On the first start of Photoshop Elements, it asked me if I want to import all my photos from iPhoto. So I did import all photos.
In iPhoto my photos have been organizes like this:
> April (folder)
> Mai (folder)
- Wohnung (event)
- Exkursion Werder (event)
> Juni (folder)
> Juli (folder)
- Exkursion Schweiz (event)
But now in Photoshop I got this:
> 20110908-192729 (folder)
> 20110908-192733 (folder)
> ... (and so on)
Is this really the way Photoshop Elements imports all my photos? Do I really have to organize all my thousands of photos again?I wanted to use Photoshop Elements Organizer and Editor only and not continue to use iPhoto because it’s very slow.
Do you think it would be easier if I just continue to use iPhoto as the Organizer and use Photoshop Elements Editor as the editor?
Seems there is no way to import iPhoto albums and events to Photoshop Elements Organizer.

First of all, are you certain you want to ditch iphoto permanently? It's not necessary to do that unless you wish. So are you sure that you no longer want iphoto at all?

I have Photoshop Elements 12 for both PC and Mac (I use both). I have a new camera, Nikon D810. I downloaded the latest version of Camera Raw, 8.8. My D810 is listed as a supported camera model. However, when I try to open a raw photo in Photoshop Elements, I keep getting the message "Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw. I have tried reinstalling Camera Raw many times, and have tried to open many different raw files in Elements, and still get the same error message. Please help.
How did you try to install ACR 8.8. The only way I know of that works with Elements is to use the Updates Choice on the Help menu.
There are two charts supplied by Adobe that explain your RAW dilemma. In your case, the Nikon D810 needs Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) 8.6 or Lightroom 5.6. (Congratulations on buying a new camera!)
To get to that level with Photoshop Elements, you will need to replace your Photoshop Elements 12 with version 13. Adobe caps ACR updates on version 12 at 8.5.
The most convenient way to get around it without spending any money is to use the FREE from Adobe DNG Converter. Download and install it from here for FREE: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=5855&fileID=5890 Once it is installed you can convert your D810 raw files to an Adobe RAW version with the .DNG file extension that most, if not all, versions of the various Adobe software programs can use. That includes old versions of Photoshop, Elements and Lightroom. DNG converter can be used as the tool to move your files from your memory card to your computer, is efficient, will convert in batches and is completely lossless. There is no risk of any image quality degradation or RAW functionality. -
I got iPhoto '11, version 9.2.3 and want to edit photos using Photoshop elements 10. I have put P'shop 10 as the preferred editor... but when I click on the photo in iPhoto the Adobe p'shop 10 program opens BUT the picture does not open for editing. What the heck... I did fine with the old iPhoto and "Shop elements 6... .

How can I edit a photo in Photoshop Elements and have the edit appear in Windows 7, My Pictures?
In Windows XP Pro, any edit I made to a photo in Photoshop Elements 10 appeared automatically in that photo in My Pictures. This does not happen in my new Windows 7 computer. Can I change that and have the edit from PE10 appear in My Documents/My Pictures?
When you finish editing choose:
File >> Save As
Then choose a file name and folder and save. -

I have a dual boot system, xp pro and 7 pro. Photoshop elements 7 runs fine on xp, but would not run on windows 7. Bought elements 13, Very, Very slow. To slow to work on photographs. I have bought new ram and done every other optimize ideas I have found online.

I have a 3 year old MacBook Pro with MAC OSX 10.6.8, iPhoto ’09 version 8.1.2 and have downloaded two software programs: one is Aperture 3.2 and the other is Photoshop Elements 9 (which I got from a friend who didn’t need it).
I am totally happy with the way iPhoto organizes my photos and how I can work with iMovie to create slide shows with music from iTunes, etc.
I have been shooting mostly high resolution jpegs and I continue to learn more and more about photography, post processing etc. I realize that the small adjustments I can make in iPhoto are good, and are adequate most of the time. However, a have started to experiment with shooting RAW images and would like to go the next step, ie. post processing.I am totally technically challenged and need SIMPLE, INTUITIVE programs and am certainly NOT anywhere ready for Photoshop CS whatever!
After having these programs sit on my computer, I decided to try to see if I could figure them out. When I opened Aperture, this is what first comes up.

Upgrading a library from previous versions of Aperture 3 generally takes a few minutes or less, though larger libraries will take longer. After that, Aperture 3.2 will upgrade your library's thumbnails, but you can use the application during that time.
Tip: To open a different library, quit Aperture and hold the Option key down while starting Aperture

I have heard horror stories about moving your entire library to Aperture, ending up with 2 libraries, etc. etc. hence my previous reluctance in attempting Aperture. In addition, many of my photography friends are saying: Go with Lightroom 3.....you’ll love it!
So here is my dilemma. I don’t want to mess around with my iPhoto library. All I want to be able to do, is to isolate a few photos, export them to Aperture, Elements, and work on them there, then bring them back into iPhoto.
Can I do this? Should I forget about Aperture and Elements and look at purchasing yet another program like Lightroom?Export those few photos via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option with Kind = Original to the Desktop. Then import them into the Aperture library. That would keep one copy in your iPhoto library and another in your Aperture library to edit, etc.
You can use Photoshop Elements 9 from within iPhoto as your editor of choice. However, if you edit a raw file in iPhoto with PSE9 the resulting edited version must be saved outside the iPhoto Library and imported back in as a new file. For editing jpegs just do a Save (not a Save As) and it all will be kept within iPhoto.
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always. In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note: to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

Problem sync photos from Photoshop Elements since iTunes 7
I have been having problems syncing my photos ever since Apple launched iTunes 7 and iOS 6. I run Windows 7, I sync my photos from Photoshop Elements to the iPad 2 and the iPhone 3GS. I never had problems with the sync prior to the September changes by Apple. What happens is that only a portion of the photos that I have earmarked for sync in their respective selected albums are making it to the devices.
In terms of troubleshooting, I have tried many things to no avail. I have tried to add a new photo to an album to sorta kickstart a sync. I have deleted the iPod photo cache from the Elements Organizer. I have removed photos from the device. I have tried syncing without syncing Photos.
None of these have worked. It's pretty clear that there is a glitch in Apple's updates, which will need to be addressed along the way. Photos traveled seamelssly in this method until the September updates.
Anyone else experience this, or have any last-dash ideas? It's pretty frustrating.Of course, by "iTunes 7", I meant "iTunes 10.7", but can't seem to edit my OP.

Need to backup and remove photo library from my iphone. This library was previously backup on a hard drive that crashed. So these photos are only in the photo library and not in the camera roll. If I do a full backup, it only takes the camera roll.
So this is a 2 part question:
1) how to I backup the Photo Library to my new hard drive (as the last one was unrecoverable but previously backed up)
2) how do I remove the Photo Library form my phone (preferably after backup in item 1)
Thanks, JanisSince it has always been very basic to backup your computer and all it's data, Apple provides no way for you to transfer music from your iPhone back to your computer. As you know, you can re-download all iTunes purchases, but music that you ripped yourself you'll have to just re-rip again.
You can try and find 3rd party applications that might help you. I'm sure you'll pay, however.
Let this be a very important lesson learned.

Why can't I print a full page photo in Photoshop Elements 10???
Why can't I print a FULL PAGE PHOTO IN PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS VERSION 10, (letter size 8.5 x 11?) I have tried resizing, cropping and anything else I can possibly think of to no avail!!! VERSION 7 was so easy just print (fit to page)! I'am pulling my hair out trying to accomplish this! If anyone can tell me how to do it I would be eternally grateful! Thanks Julie
P.S. I can't even print a 8 x 10 properly!Sarah, my printer drivers are updated! This problem seems SO COMPLICATED when it should be so easy! It's like the more advanced these programs get the less you can figure them out!!!! I'am ready to offer a reward to fix this!!! The stress of trying to figure this out is making me crazy!
