Importing custom component to the Creator

I am trying to import a custom UI component to the creator. I am in the process of creating
the .complib.I could mange to write the ant build file for the file creation(.complib).While generating BeanInfoBase.java it throws an error saying ,
"exception java.beans.IntrospectionException is never thrown in the body of the corresponding
try statement ".
This exception is thrown in the autogenerated class (BeanInfoBase.java. ) How can I overcome this
problem?
Can anybody help me???
Thanks & Regards,
Menaka.

Ok, presume you already created component vith the view and logic behing and just want to integrate this component in Account Identification component. To do that, do the following...
1. in z component go to run time repository & right-click on Component Interface
2. choose Add Interface View
3. In the field Mapped to Window choose your Window
4. save
5. open Account Identification component & go to Runtime Repository Editor
6. add component usage by right-click on Component Usages - choose Add Component Usage and enter an ID, your Z compoennt as Used Component and the corresponding Interface View
7. expand the ViewSet in which you want to add view of Z component & navigate to the ViewArea
8. right-click on ViewArea and choose Add View
9. in the field BSP Application enter the name of Z component and view
10. save
11. click on Browser Component Structure & navigate to the newly created view and click on the Configuration tab in the work area on the right-hand side
12. you should now see your new view under available views

• Passing arguments to a custom component in the constructor

I would like to know if it is possible to pass arguments to a
custom component in the constructor when I'm instantiating it
within Actionscript. I've not seen anyone do this, so at the moment
I have a couple of public properties defined on the custom
component and then do the following:
var myComponent:TestComponent = new TestComponent();
myComponent.propertyOne = true;
myComponent.propertyTwo = 12;
etc.
Whereas I'd like to do something like:
var myComponent:TestComponent = new TestComponent( true, 12
Any ideas if this is possible?

Another approach as opposed to creating init function is to link symbol with autogenerated class (just assign it a class but do not create *.as file for it) and use it just as graphical view with no functionality (well only MovieClip's functionality).
ViewClip.as
public class ViewClip extends MovieClip {
public var view:MovieClip;
public function ViewClip(){
this.view = instantiateView();
this.addChild(view);
protected function instantiateView():MovieClip {
return new MovieClip();
Circle.as
public class Circle extends ViewClip {
public function Circle(scaleX:Number, scaleY:Number) {
super();
override protected function instantiateView():MovieClip {
return new ClassView();

• A Custom Component and the JSP source that get's generated

I'm writing a Custom Component library and I'm at a point where I need to understand how the JSP source that gets generate when my component is dragged from the palete is created and how it relates to the properties I define in the Metadata files.
In particular I have a component that is an extension of the DataTable component and I'd like to control what get's dropped onto the page when the user drags over my component.

See the "Building and Customizing JavaServer Faces Technology Components" technology theme page at http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/javatools/jscreator/reference/themes/buildingjsf/index.html. The Hands-On Examples and "Design-Time API User Guide (pdf)" linked from that page should help.

• Importing custom components

I just downloaded and installed Update 5 and now I cannot import my custom component.
The new update requires the component packaged as a Component Library File with comlib?? extension. I tried to find any docs on the new packaging scheme but couldnt find any. Can anyone on the creator team please supply the info?
Thanks

The importing components in the help contents has a broken link.
The link is "Creating Custom JavaServer Faces Components for Java Studio Creator:,
http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/javatools/jscreator/reference/techart/JSFcomps_building.html
The link should point to the comlib wiki link. It would be even better if the relevant information on complib and custom components is included directly in the help contents instead of an external url.

• Custom component not working properly

Hi all - I am trying to create a custom component. I have followed the suggested MVC architecture, and created the following classes:
1. SuperLineModel (the MODEL)
2. SuperLine (the actual component,e.g. the CONTROLLER)
3. BasicSuperLineUI (the UI Delegate class, e.g. the VIEW)
4. SuperLineUI (an abstract type class for my UI Delegate)
I also have a fifth class that draws a frame and panel, and then adds the custom component to the panel. In the main method of this class, I
register the UI delegate like this:
UIManager.put(BasicSuperLineUI.UI_CLASS_ID, "com.volant.mapit.view.BasicSuperLineUI");Everything compiles without any problems, but the custom component is never painted for some reason. In fact, I added a print line to the UI delegates paint method just to see if it was ever called, and it wasn't. I know I'm missing something here, and it's probably something small. I'm hoping some of you Swing gurus can take a look at my code below and point out the problem for me.
I really appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks.
The classes are listed below:
// SuperLineModel
import javax.swing.*;
import javax.swing.event.*;
public class SuperLineModel

private double sourceYCoord = 0;

import javax.swing.plaf.*;
import com.volant.mapit.control.*;
public abstract class SuperLineUI extends ComponentUI
public static final String UI_CLASS_ID = "SuperLineUI";

A quick glance at the code and it looks ok with the exception of the following which I don't understand what you're trying to do:
public void installUI(JComponent c)  {
SuperLine sl = (SuperLine)c;
public void uninstallUI(JComponent c)  {
SuperLine sl = (SuperLine)c;
}Here are my comments:
1) I expect Superline sl to be a global variable for use elsewhere in your program.
2) I have no idea what your uninstallUI does.
This is what I would do:
SuperLine sl;
public void installUI(JComponent c)  {
sl = (SuperLine)c;
public void uninstallUI(JComponent c)  {
}Finally, I am assuming that the changelistener will trigger a repaint which in turn will call your paint method, right?
;o)

• Access data in custom component.

Hi Everyone,
I am new to Flex soo pardon me if my questions are quite basic. I have searched a lot before posting here, might be I was not looking in the right direction. Please redirect me to the path that leads to the solution of the problem. I really appreciate any help that I can get.
I'm followiing this video tutorial.
http://www.gotoandlearn.com/play.php?id=100
All was going fine, until the tutor wanted to add custom component in the application. He added the HBox which I couldn't find in Flash Builder 4.6 so I added HGroup instead in my new component. Now when I want to use the data that was fetched in the parent component in custom component it gives me error. Here is the code and their file names.

Hello Ravi,
one option is the create a public attribute to share your value note data with other components.
Another option is a function group with two function modules "SET_" and "GET_".
I´m sure one of the webclient UI Gurus here in this forum could share less "dirty" ways with you.
Kind regards

• Can't instantiate JSF Custom Component

I'm hoping some of you expert (or at least seasoned) JSF custom component developers might be able to lend some insight into the "Can't instantiate class" problem. I have a custom component which extends another component (which happens to be Oracle ADF's panelGroup), and I've verified that everything is in place:
1. Component class uses correct component type referenced by faces-config.xml and tag class
2. Renderer type referenced in faces-config.xml matches that of the renderer type in component class
3. There is a default constructor (no args) for the component class, which also sets the renderer type
4. TLD with tag is correct
All classes are definitely in the classpath, as I have another custom component in the same packages which loads and is used just fine.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks,

So, is no one else having any problems when using the new JSF components from Java Studio Creator 2 in their existing projects? I can make simple projects in Creator and run them on PointBase and Tomcat and can deploy and run from Eclipse using MyEclipse but I cannot get my existing project working and I am wondering if their is some sort of conflict between the new JSF components and legacy Struts stuff in that project or if perhaps Spring is someone interferering. Kind of at a loss right now...

• How do you reference a valueObject located in main to a custom component created in Catalyst?

Hello,
I have been working with the Catalyst Beta 2 / Flash Builder beta trying to create a photogallery and have hit a little bit of a snag, try as I might I can't seem to find the answer anywhere. I am still new to Flex so please excuse me if this is a basic question, I have been trying to understand more about Flex to make my designs in Catalyst better.
I found this video on Adobe TV: http://tv.adobe.com/watch/rich-internet-applications-101/ria-stepbystep-16-binding-a-data- service-to-flash-builder-components/
It's wonderful and I have the datalist I created in Catalyst working with the XML file I generated but I designed my little photogallery a bit diffrent, I created a Custom Component in Catalyst so that when you click an item on the DataList it pop's up a little screen with a larger photo in on it, rather then having an image in the main application. Now my problem seems to be that I can't refrence the valueObject I created with the wizard as it's in my Main.mxml file, is there a way to refrence it from my Custom Component so the larger image will display? Is there a way to let the component know which item on the dataList in the main application is selected and display the correct image?
I should also say I really enjoy working with the Beta for both Flash Builder / Catalyst, thanks for the hard work!
Thanks for the help,
Chris

I am afraid you cannot bind to static properties in Windows Store Apps. It is simply not supported.
You could create a proxy class that exposes the static command property and bind to this property of an instance of the proxy object:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14186175/bind-to-a-static-field-in-windows-8-xaml
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4708711/how-can-i-use-the-xstatic-extension-for-phone7-silverlight-apps
You will of course have to create an instance of the proxy object. There is no way around this.
Please remember to mark helpful posts as answer to close your threads and then start a new thread if you have a new question.

• How can I make a custom component focusable?

Hi all,
I'm using a custom made component that consists of a JLabel
and a JTextField. I want to make this component focusable,
and when it's in focus I want the JTextField to have the
focus so that the user can start typing immediately.
I've looked at the java tutorial
(http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/misc/focus.html#focusable).
When my component gets the focus I request the focus to the
JTextField. The problem is: whenever i check if my custom
component has the focus, it hasn't because JTextField has it
(the focus, i mean :-) ) Which isn't strange i think, but
how can i solve this problem?

I want to make this component focusable, and when it's in focus I want the JTextField to have the focus
The problem is: whenever i check if my custom component has the focus, it hasn't because JTextField has it (the focus, i mean :-) So whats the problem the textField has focus as desired.
You don't need to make the containing panel focusable in order for the text field to receive focus. The FocusManager is smart enough to place focus on the first focusable component contained in the panel. If you make the panel focusable then you will need to use the tab key twice, once to move focus to the panel and a second time to move focus to the text field.

• Error when calling a custom component in Web UI.

Hello Experts ,
We have created a custom component for guided procedure in Web UI . When we link the custome component with the standard component for the home page ( WCC_SSV_HOME ) we found that custom controller for guided procedure works . We are navigating the guided procedure for search functioanlity and it works fine and shows the search result .
But when we click on any of the searched objects say a Case , then links on that Case is not working .
For example , we are getting the below error :
Exception Class CX_BSP_WD_INCORRECT_IMPLEMENT - Define NavigationalLink BP for source view ZSOA.MainWindow
Any inputs on this is higly apreciated.
Regards
Vinayak

Hi Vinayak,
I am assuming that the implementation of the navigation from the search result to the object details is not working.
The error you mentioned pointed me that you do not have the navigation link. I don't know what is missing so I am giving you the full details please cross check what you missed.
1> create and eventhandler e.g. EH_ONSINGLESELECTION
2> create an outbound plug in your view - this plug is used for the navigation to the target of the hyperlink.
3> create an outbound plug in the window.
Define the navigation link whth the name according to the string you have put in the event handler in the search component e.g. SINGLESELECTION
as source define the component usage for the search. as target define the component usage of header -> this will handle the connection from search to the header.
Hope this will help.
Thanks,
Vikash.

• Decode function not called for a custom component

I know this problem happened in the past - in the EA2, EA4 and I believe the beta version as well, but does anyone know if it has been solved for the release ?
In short - I'm working with the release, created a menuBar component and the decode method in the renderer is not called after I submit the page. In the past, there were rumors that this happened due to relative paths in the JSP (for js files, images, etc.).
Does anyone else have this problem ? or better , know how to solve it ?
Thanx,
Netta.

It's not that simple - The component is getting rendered, all the encode methods are called and the decode is called also , but only the first time the form is submitted.
I added this custom component to the guessNumber application, and I have a menuBar in the greeting.jsp that leads to the response.jsp and vice versa. it looks like this in the greeting.jsp page -
<!-- Start Menu -->
<t:MenuBar id="bar1" styleClass="myClass" >
<t:Menu id="menu1" name="menu1">
<t:Menu id="menu2" name="menu2">
<t:MenuItem id="item2_1" name="item2_1" action="/mytest/guess/response.jsp"/>
<t:MenuItem id="item2_2" name="item2_2" action="http://www.msn.com"/>
<t:Menu id="menu3" name="menu3">
<t:MenuItem id="item3_1" name="item3_1x" action="http://www.msn.com"/>
</t:Menu>
</t:Menu>
</t:Menu>
<t:MenuItem id="item3" name="item3" action="http://www.cnn.com"/>
</t:MenuBar>
<!-- End Menu -->
In the response it looks like this -
<!-- Start Menu -->
<t:MenuBar id="bar2" styleClass="myClass" >
<t:MenuItem id="item3" name="item3" action="/mytest/guess/greeting.jsp"/>
</t:MenuBar>
<!-- End Menu -->
and every time a menuItem is clicked on, the JS calls submit form.
Since the menus are rendered, I assume there's nothing wrong with the rendererType and any other renderer problem. Since the decode is called only once, I assume the right form is being submitted.
So, what can cause it to stop calling the decode ???
Could it be that becase I go directly to the page and not through the navigation rules ( I call window.open directly from the JS), it creates a problem ??
Please help, I've been wasting so much time on this !
Netta.

• Custom component: porting from lc 8.0 to lc 8.2

hello
i developed a java pojo custom component for lc 8.0, essentially it connected to a db and returned a complex object. Now the environment has been upgraded to lc 8.2 . I've loaded my processes (which include my custom component) on the new environment. When i start the process , my component reaches the finally block where i've logged the db connections closing. Immediatly after the system crushes with the following error(i haven't added the whole stack trace because its huge):

After that jboss get stucked, printing exceptions every 2 minutes, and i need to stop and restart it. I don't see anything wrong with my code: i get the datasource object, i get a coonettin from it, make my queries/updates and finally i close the connection.
googling i've found this might be due to datasource item being local-tx-datasource instead of xa-datasource, but all datasources are of this kind.
Any hint about this problem will be greatly appreciated

hi Steve
thank you for your answer. Unluckly i'm not using mysql but oracle 9i (or 10i i don't know since i'm just a poor programmer). Anyway i did a test : i've bypassed the datasource file , hardcoding the connection parameters in my custom component and it has got executed without problem, then process has crushed again on a query done by some adobe component. there are many adobe sql component instances to read/write from the same schema my compnent uses, so i suppose the problem is inside datasource configuration. There's a datasource sample for oracle too?
I cannot give much details, since the new system has been recently installed and i don't know all info (i think jboss is 4.2 but i'm not sure)
thanks again
regards

• Including .as files in a custom component

Can anyone tell me how to include an actionscript file in a
custom component when the .as file resides one level above the
component?
All of my custom components are in the "src/components"
directory and the actionscript file I need to include is one level
up in the "src" directory. I assume this can be done easily, but I
am new to Flex and can't get it working. I have tried ../ ,
parentDocument, parentApplication, Application.application, and
fully referencing the file from C: with no luck.
The ../ version seems to point to the right place but my
Problems panel is showing
"1068: Unable to open included file:
C:\CFusionMX7\wwwroot\c21hp\flex\src\yahooMap2.as"
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

@Ryan:
Thanks for your reply. For type property in Inspectable metadata tag: http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/gumbo/html/WS2db454920e96a9e51e63e3d11c0bf680e1-7ffe.html#W S2db454920e96a9e51e63e3d11c0bf69084-7a21
It can have values like Boolean, Array, String etc. I am trying to have a custom one. But I notice that I have to close the property tag, even if it is a string or html for e.g. text property in TextInput, I have to write something like this:
<mx:TextInput>
<mx:htmlText>
<![CDATA[
]]>
</mx:htmlText>
</mx:TextInput>
and
<mx:TextInput>
<mx:text>something</mx:text>
</mx:TextInput>
But I still think, it should be there. Not sure

• PPR on custom component

I have a custom component for calendar. When invoking PPR on the component it refreshes the entire contents of the page and the custom component doesn't work properly after that.
If I manually do full a page refresh then the component works properly.
There is a thread with a similar problem was resolved Re: PPR on custom component?
In above thread the solution was to add below in the custom component class.
@Override
protected FacesBean.Type getBeanType()
return TYPE;
I do have this code in my custom component class but may be I am missing something else. Does anyone have a suggestion of how to make this work? I'd appreciate your help a lot.

Yes, I've seen that page on Trinidad. It was helpful, but it seems it was mostly about using PPR, not about building it into a custom component. The one part that did talk about custom components was this, near the end:
"Finally, if you're implementing a custom component, you aren't extending the Trinidad UIXComponentBase base class or one of its subclasses, and you want to support partialTriggers, you'll need to use addPartialTriggerListeners(). If you deliver events, and you want to support being the target of partialTriggers, you'll need to use partialUpdateNotify(). "
Then it gives code snippets for each of those. In my case, I am extending UIXComponentBase, and I am including this code, and I know addPartialTriggerListeners gets called, but my component still doesn't get the updated data. If I right-click the page and select Refresh, it redraws correctly, and other components that have partial-triggers on the same component I do, do get the update properly. So I must be missing something.
Also, where can I get the open source of the components from? I haven't found anywhere to download them from. Can you point me at them?

• Custom Component in CREF

Hi everybody!
I am trying to deploy an applet which contains a Custom Component using CREF as simulator. That means I run CREF to be waiting for incoming APDUs. By means of apdutool I run the script which contains the APDUs for the deployment of the applet. The whole CAP file is deployed properly until the custom component is tried to be deployed. Then I receive the status word 0x6424.
That means, according to the specification:
Exception occurred.
* Cause: General purpose error in the installer or applet code.
* Solution: Check your applet code for errors.
The applet works properly without the custom component, so the problem is not in the applet code.
The line of the script which fails is the following (where 10 is the tag chosen for the custom component): 0x80 0xB2 0x10 0x00 0x00 0x7F;
It is the one used to prepare the Installer to receive the component whose tag is 0x10, that is what 0xB2 means.
The response is: CLA: 80, INS: b2, P1: 10, P2: 00, Lc: 00, Le: 00, SW1: 64, SW2: 24
The following APDUs, after that one, return 0x6421 that means the Installer is in an error state.
So, I was wondering if someone had the same problem. Or if someone knows if CREF does not accept custom components.
Thanks in advance, I don't reach to find where the error is. May be I am missing something...
Best regards,
E_L

I would be surprised if CREF supports custom components. It would know how to use them so it would not make any sense. What is it that your custom component does?
Cheers,
Shane
