Importing Database Structures in OBI Administration's Physical Layer

Hi,
I need to work on OBI EE. Which is installed in a linux box and I'm able to login to the presentation services. Can anyone tell me the best way of designing and deploying rpd to linux box?
Do I have to create the rpd in my windows desktop and after creating deploy the rpd to the linux box?
Thanks in Advance
Sudipta

Hi rnm1978,
Thanks for the reply :)
Ya..you guessed it right. My actual concern is on the rpd creation. So when i'll import the databasde in physical layer, I have to connect to oracle DB (OCI Native driver) using the tns name. Now my desktop and OBI Linux box should be in sync in connecting the same db using the same tns entry. So, Do I have to configure the Oracle client in linux box and point it to the actual db in the tns entry file? Because I can not use ODBC connection as it is a linux box.
Can you please give me some clarity in this topic?
Thanks for your help.

  • Joining tables across databases in OBIEE Physical Layer

I was facing this problem of joining tables across databases in Physical layer of OBIEE admin tool.
I had a requirement to combine two tables from 2 different databases A and B respectively. I had created one database object (OBIEE Object) in the physical layer and I had created two connection pools under that pointing to the required databases. I was able to view the data (right click on the table object --> popup menu option "View Data" ) though I had to go through the "Select connection Pool" window and select the required connection pool. I was able to join the tables and was able to complete the star schema in BMM and bring them up to the presentation layer. Conistency check was also successful. Everything went fine so far.
But when I started building the report, I started getting error whenever I chose the table which was supposed to be queried by using the second connection pool. The error message was something like "table or view does not exist at OCI call OCIStmtExecute". I assume that this was happening because the systm was not able to understand which connection pool to choose (because there were two pools defined under one database object) and by default the server was choosing the first one. If anybody is having a different opinion or definite information about this, kindly update with your reply.
I could resolve this problem after creating a separate database object with a separate connection pool defined under it, which points to the second database. Imported the required table under this database object. (Infact it was reverse. When I re-imported the table, OBIEE Admin tool, by default created its own database object and the connection pool separately for the imported table).
Once this was done then I went ahead as usual by joining the tables across these two different database objects and modelling was already done (ofcourse with a little more tweaking since the mapping had to be redone between BMM and Physical layers). Now I could build the report in the reporting layer without encountering any error.
Appreciate and welcome any further additions/updations/corrections regarding this issue(?).

  • How to see the tables which are in the physical layer of SampleAppLite rpd

    Hi Everyone,
I am new to OBIEE and I installed OBI Apps with Oracle 11g in my laptop. I tried to create reports using the OracleBIAnalyticsApps rpd. How can I know from which schema the tables are coming in the physical layer of the repository so that I can create a connection pool to the database. I got the default SampleAppLite rpd when I install the OBIEE but I am unable to see those tables in the database schema which are used in the SampleAppLite physical layer. Can anyone tell me how can I see the tables in the database which I see in the rpd. Actually my question may be wrong as I am new to this field, so please let me know if this is a wrong question. As I unable to express my question correctly. Thanks.

For the OracleBIAnalyticsApps rpd - the tables are under "Catalog" then "dbo" in database "Oracle Data Warehouse" in the physical layer. The RPD comes out of the box with the required connection pools - you dont need to create any. The connection pools "Oracle Data Warehouse Repository Initblocks Connection Pool" and "Oracle Data Warehouse Connection Pool" in "Oracle Data Warehouse" read the data from the business analytics warehouse that you created in a schema name of your choosing with the DAC. All you need to do is edit the user name and password and the data source name with a connect string - which is the local net service name to your database for default call interface OCI 10g/11g assuming you used an Oracle database for your warehouse. One way to test the connection pool is to right click any table/alias then "Update Row Count".
BTW Using the Admin Tool open the OracleBIAnalyticsApps rpd then do "Tools" then "Utilities" then "Repository Documentation" then "Execute". This will create a spreadsheet showing you all the mappings from the presentation to business to physical layers.

  • Physical layer tables

I have a question on the physical layer. When we import the tables to the physical layer and after that there are few changes to the tables like adding or deleting columns. Do those changes reflect in the physical layer tables as well or do we have to import the modified table again to the physical layer and delete the previous table?

    Hi,
After importing tables in physcial layer if you modify those tables in database those changes will not be reflected in physical layer. You dont have to import tables again if you add only one or more columns. You can simply create physical column in rpd with the same name and datatype as of database. In the same way if you delete any column in databse table then you can delete that column from RPD.
    Thanks

  • OBIEE Administrator: bug in Physical Layer import fo Sybase IQ?

    Hi!
In OBIEE Administrator, in the Physical Layer, I defined a Database Object (as a Syabase IQ 12.7) and its connection pool for a Sybase IQ 12.6 Database. I created the ODBC driver (for Sybase IQ 12.5 and also tried with IQ 12.7 drivers) in Windows and used it in the connection pool.
When I use the Import functionality, to read the tables and columns, it works fine...apparently. At least, the Physical Layer appears filled with all the tables I selected. But the "+" sign (which denotes that the table has columns, right?) appears only for some tables. And when expand those tables, the columns appear. However, for those tables (and any other table) when I right-click and select either Update Row Count or View Data, OBIEE Administrator shows an error message saying that the table does not exist:
[nQSError: 16001] ODBC Error state: S0002 code: -141 message: [Sybase][ODBC Driver][Adaptive Server IQ]Table 'EVENTS' not found.
If I edit the table properties in the Physical Layer and prefix its name with the schema name (ex.: instead of "EVENTS" I rename it to "rpt.EVENTS') it works fine...
But I only have this problem for these table of Sybase IQ. I imported tables from an SQL Server 200 database, and all works fine: a "+" sign for all tables, I select view data and it returns results, etc.
    HELP!!!!
    Thanks.

    hi!
Problem solved. Here is the solution:
    - You want to access a Sybase IQ 12.6 database through ODBC, in Oracle BI Administrator, in the Physical Layer, in order to import tabes and columns and keys and etc, don't user neither Sybase IQ ODBC driver version 12.5 nor version 12.7. Use version 12.6! :)

  • Importing materialized views from database into physical layer

    Hi,
I have created materialized view in the database. When I try to import the materialized view into the physical layer in OBIEE 10G (using the import from database option), it is not showing in the list of available object. I have selected all the object types (tables, views etc.). Can you please let me know how to import the existing MVs in the database into the physical layer.

  • Cannot view data on physical layer on Oracle BI administration tool

    Hi everyone
    I have a schema1 and table1, table2, table3.
I have connect in odbc using the schema username and password and it was successful.
I can view the data using toad and sql oracle developer with schema username and password.
I also import the tables in Oracle BI administration tool with my schema username and password.
But my problem is i cannot view the data on the table in physical layer using my schema username and password.
    Please help,

    Hi,
I'm confused about the last bit, you did a database import to get the tables into the RPD, which worked, but now they are not showing in the phsyical layer of the rpd? They should be there under a database with the name of the ODBC/OCI that you used when you imported them.
If they are not there then this would make me think that the import of the tables has not worked, try importing just one and see what happens.

  • Problems while trying to open OBI Administration Tool

    Hi everybody,
I’m getting an error while trying to open the OBI Administration Tool. I performed properly the installation with the client installer, and then created the ODBC connection to the OBI Server, which is hosted in a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 (64  bits).
The error I’m getting is the next one:
    Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
    Runtime Error!
Program: C:\Program Files\Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition Plus Client T...
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.
This is an error that seems to have appeared previously on the forum, but unfortunately I didn’t find any fixing solution. I found posts speaking about cleaning the boot and reinstalling the Visual C++ running components, but they don’t work (at least in my case).
    Any idea?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Creating views in Physical Layer of OBIEE Administration Tool

    Hello,
I am doing a proof of concept of creating an OBIEE repository using the Administration Tool to make a model for an in house sandbox OLTP system. Because this POC isn't using a warehouse that is built nicely with everything I need, I am having to import the OLTP tables into the Physical Layer and then create a few extra views (by creating a new physical table object and selecting "Table Type: Select") to add some new columns I will need.
My problem is that once I have created two views 'ViewA' and 'ViewB', I want to then create a third view 'ViewC' that is the union of 'ViewA' and 'ViewB'. But when I create ViewC from these two views and try to then update row count or view data in newly created ViewC, I get an error message of the effect:
Message 208: Invalid object name 'DBO.ViewA'
Message 208: Invalid object name 'DBO.ViewB'
When I try and create ViewC with DBO.OriginalTableA and DBO.OriginalTableB, however, it works just fine. And I am also able to successfully update row count and view data in ViewA and ViewB independently. So it seems to me like a view initialization problem when trying to have ViewC be created from A and B.
Am I trying to do something that is not allowed in the Physical Layer of the BI Admin Tool? I would think that I should be able to work with views just like actual physical tables from my OLTP. Maybe not.
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

    Hi Hammett81 ,
I think, I have given configured connection pool correct. (following Oracle guidelines: 'In the Connection Pool dialog box, on the General tab, verify that the call interface is set to Default (OCI 10g) and change the data source name to the appropriate tnsnames.ora entry ( ORCL in this example). Please note that this is the TNS service name, not the ODBC DSN. ' )
I tried to give ODBC DSN (SH) as call interface, which resulted in an Error dialogue, implying, previous configuration was correct.
    So, I reverted back.

  • Automatic Checking of Database Structures

In OSS note 521870 SAP recommends to perform a weekly
check of the Database Structures to verify that the
Maxdb database is not corrupt. Unfortunately this
OSS note only describes the manual procedure to
    perform this task:
dbmgui -> Check -> Database Structure
Is there any way to easily schedule this also via dbmcli?
The SAP online documentation contains some interesting
information about integrating the check into the CCMS,
here I can see whether the database structure check
was performed recently, but unfortunately I cannot
    schedule it

but unfortunately my SCM 4.1 system is running on
Oracle and I want to check the liveCache on Maxdb,
so I cannot use DB13 for scheduling the check.

    Hello Mark,
    Central DBA Planning Calendar ::
In the user menu, choose the Central DBA Planning Calendar
    (transaction DB13C).
If it is not already there, add your liveCache to the list of systems.
To do this, choose Configuration ® Add System.
System ID: Enter here the liveCache name that you assigned during the
integration of the liveCache (using MaxDB/liveCache System Overview).
    Database: Choose SDB/LVC.
Database Release: Choose the liveCache Version in accordance with the
     version notation .
    Select No SAP Basis.
Database Server: Enter the name of the liveCache server.
Connection Name: Enter the name of the database connection.
To switch to a local DBA planning calendar, choose Local Calendar and then

  • Changing database structure

I have to add a tabel a mailalerttext and link that to mailalertypes which is linked to mailalerts. I had some problems with the selectlists, underneath you will find something that will solve that problem I thought, but it may be easier to solve it simpler, but thats apex stuff.
If a default user and default applicationcode would exist, it would be possible to use them in the mailalert table which has following colums:
    MAILALERTID,APPLICATIECD,GEBRUIKERID,MAILALERTTYPEID,SENDMAILIND
    gebruikerid means userid.
The defaultuser and application code would then be used in the mailalerts table and the column mailalertype would be replaced by mailalerttypecode. These are defined they can't change.
The reason is that if mailalerttext is linked to maillalerts using the mailalertid as the foreign key, then that allows to find the correct text, or select it straightaway by using the mailtextid. All the selects would then be made on the mailalert table.
The numbers used as default are just those that are free, a default user can be filled in like that in te gebruikers table, and a default application code in the apps table.
Only the standard user and the mailalerttypecode are important, the standard applicationcode could be used as an extra check but might not be necessary.
A select could then be made on that applicationcode, that user, that typecode if not found select standarduser and typecode.
Applicationcode is only filled in to stick to the table definitions. To solve a problem with a select list on a page in apex i think this is overkill, as it requires more changes then does the first solution, It means changing tables, dropping columns adding them, changing triggers, changing code in apex pages, a lot of work.
But I was wondering if concerning a database structure, starting from scratch this is something that would be considered good, not so good, bad, something to not do ?
I'm not sure this is the right group, but it isn't strictly apex, and it isn't really sql/plsql either. More database structure.
I'm just beginning, so i'd like to know your opinions and why it would be bad, or possibly good.

I'm still not sure I understand your existing data model properly. The following is my interpretation of what I think your're trying to achieve.
There are four core data tables -
    * APPLICATIONS - holds information relating to the programs you administer
    * MAIL_TEXT - holds boilerplate text for each type of e-mail (I'm assuming this text can be shared across applications)
    * MAIL_TYPES - the different kinds of e-mail alerts which can be sent
    * USERS - holds information about the support staff.
I think you need two intersection tables
    * APP_MAIL_TYPES - application X uses text Y for e-mails of type Z (candidate key: app id and type id)
    * USER_MAIL_REGS - user Joe gets e-mails of type Z from application X (candidate key: app id, type id and user id)
NB If the registration is just done against alert type for all apps, then the USER_MAIL_REGS table shoudl intersect USERS and MAIL_TYPES.

----------------------                        I think USER_MAIL_REGS corresponds to your "overview" table. (It's a good idea to use names which convey as much info as possible. I acknowledge the difficulty of doing this in another language). Changing the users' registrations would simply be a matter of inserting or deleting rows from the USER_MAIL_REGS.
If this doesn't help you then I'm afraid you will need to give me more info. Specifically, what tables you have, the role they play and the relationships between them.
    Cheers, APC

  • Different Database structure migartion

In second version of our software we change the database structure.
Now we need to migrate data from version 1 to version 2 that have different database structure.
Is Streaming or any other oracle feature provides possibility or I should write code by hand?

I sugeest you migrate the tables individaully having in mind the DML and DDL statements
hitting the database from the application end. You need to do a mapping for both the databse.
Do the events from your old application still update the same tables as the new application
You need to really think this out to avoid having complications in your new version.
I dont think stream option is the best at this stage rather export/import of tables would be the best option
then you can think of stream to update your new version at run time.

  • Database structure documentation tool

I have been asked to include the database structure of our application in the help. It doesn't look as though there is a tool within RH that will do this but I thought it was worth asking in case it's hidden away somewhere.
If not, there are plenty of tools out there that will do the job but are there any that will integrate best with my RH7 chm and webhelp output?
    Thanks

    Hi there
No, there really isn't a tool in RoboHelp that will facilitate that. If you try a different tool you might ensure it outputs HTML files. You would then import the HTML files into a RoboHelp project.
