Importing Flash buttons into Flash

I've created a nice button as a movie clip in Flash 10 CS4
Actionscript 3 so that the button changes with mouse_over and it
all works fine, both with Test Movie and separately playing the swf
file. The problem is I want to use this button in a variety of
Flash applications. I thought all I would have to do was to export
the button as swf and then import it into the new Flash program as
a button symbol and add the ActionScript code for mouse_click etc.
I didn't expect to be able to edit the button in the new program,
but I thought it would run OK. What happens is that the button
appears, but all the movie clip behaviour is missing -- it's just a
static object that doesn't respond to mouse_over. I've tried
importing it as a button and as a movie clip -- neither works.
Given my primitive experience of ActionScript and Flash, the only
work around I can think of is to put all the ActionScript code for
the button in each application. This will be a big task, as various
layers and scripts are involved.
There must be something simple that I am missing, but I can't
seems to find this problem addressed anywhere. Most people seem to
want to use their Flash buttons in non-Flash applications like html
web pages. Help, please, from someone who can make Flash sing and
dance (or at least more than I can) ...

You can copy and paste any item in the Library of one movie
to the Library of a second movie. If you do that, you can get the
button into your new movie. You will still need to bring the
actionscript over from one movie to the other. You can do this in a
similar copy and paste manner.

  • How do I import Captivate 4 into Flash CS5?

I am not a Flash expert obviously. I am trying to import my captivates into Flash and get an error message that the file was not imported because it could not be read. Can anyone help?

    Hello,
Normally you can export the Captivate file to Flash from the File menu, but I'm not sure it will work between 2 different versions: 4 for Captivate and CS5 for Flash?

  • Import Illustrator file into Flash

I'm using Flash CS4 and I want to import an *AI file that contains the shapes of Europe's countries. The thing is that each country has a filling of dots (blue or yellow) instead of a solid color. Here is a screenshot of my Illustrator screen:http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/6983/testedd.jpg
When I import the AI into Flash all these dots become rasterized and everything looks like squashed because, I no longer have vector dots but instead bitmaps. Example of the exported SWF: http://takeab.us/SPL_embed/index_carte.html
(try and right-click and Zoom In; you'll see how bad it looks)
So, what's the best way in importing an AI file and keeping also the vector shapes? I've tried with a version EPS and still no hope.

Well object expand is what I did then copy and paste, I am not certain of the reason to crop.
this is what i got when I expanded copied and pasted. so I do not think the crop is necessary it pastes as a symbol and the symbol is clipped which I think is what you want.
But if in this case you want the stroke as well once you select anyone of the countries they have no stroke according t the tool bar proxy and so it you give it a stroke using say a swatch and then expand copy and paste you get both the fill and the stroke if you desire the stroke as well.
In the case of France and Paris once you paste those into Flash after you stroke and expand then you select both the city and the country and make that into a symbol so that they are one.
And I notice from the art you sent all you have to do is select a country expand, copy, paste and then undo the expand and you are good t go do your work.

  • When importing an image into Flash, the filesize is reported incorrectly

I saved an image from Photoshop using "Save for Web" and managed to bring the filesize down to 56.5kb. When I import this image into Flash and click on the properties, the reported "Original" filesize is 1884.6kb which is a heck of a lot more. How can I import the image and retain the filesize without having to compress the image further causing a horrible quality image?

right click one of your bitmaps, click properties and tick "allow smoothing".  retest.

  • Colour changes when importing Illustrator graphics into Flash CS3

    Hi there!
I'm creating a Flash site, and all the graphics are imported
    from Illustrator.
Also, in the Illustrator file, there are some Phtoshop
graphics with shadow effects on it.
The problem is, that when I import the .ai into Flash, a
pretty strong colour change occurs: everything becomes lighter. And
the shadow, wich is black in Photoshop, turns white in Flash!
Is there a way to solve this problem? I searched the net, and
some people say it's an OSX thing, wich is pretty strange, because
Mac is an obvious choice for loads of designers.
    I've attached an image preview.

    Thanks in advance!
    Alex

    Thanks for the anwsers!
However, the weird thing is, when I pick one of the photoshop
graphics, asign the profile to it, and import it into Flash, the
colors look fairly good. BUT when I import the complete Illustrator
file with alle the graphics in it, I still get the color shift. I
can now put all the graphics in the flash file, one at a time, but
I think thats not the most easy way to do it..

  • Can't Import Sound Clip into Flash CS6

I clipped a song using Audition and added a fade. I exported it to MP3.
I need to import that clip into Flash. I tried: FILE>IMPORT>IMPORT TO LIBRARY
It read: Couldn't Import (file name)
I tried to convert the sound clip to a .wav file and ran into the same problem.
I tried to drag and drop into the library. Same problem.
I am a novice at Flash. This is for a school assignment. It worked in class but not at home. I am using WINDOWS 8.1 and have a creative cloud version of flash (which I THINK is CS6).
    Suggestions?

Fix: I converted it to a .wav file and everything was a-ok.

  • Importing .avi clips into Flash Pro 8..

I have flash pro 8, and I was attempting to import a .avi
(Video Clip) file into Flash Pro 8, and... it instantly crashes the
program with no error message, no lag, nothing. Just instantly
shuts the whole program down as if I had simply pressed the "X"
button at the top of the window.
Is there any fixes for this? I need to do this for a school
    project.

    Hi.
Thanks both of you for your comments, but the .avi file is
less than 40 seconds long, and is a bit smaller than 6MB. I have
imported a 15MB .avi file into Flash before with no problems. It
isn't hiding either, I checked my processes in the Task Manager,
and it isn't there, it's just completely gone. I need to figure
this out by the end of two weeks. I cannot convert it to a smaller
file type, because I need it to retain 100% of it's quality.
    Thanks

  • Why can't I import a PDF into Flash?

I already submitted a feature request on this, so you don't need to tell me to do that.
Does anyone know of a logical reason why Flash can't import a specific page of PDFs like Photoshop and Illustrator can?
    Thanks!

Hey, thanks for that tip. It does work, however what it does is it converts it to a bitmap. It's not live vectors and text. Also, it will only give you the first page of a multipage PDF. Illustrator and Photoshop give you a dialog asking which page you want.
So right now, I open in Illustrator and then copy and paste into Flash. Flash has an Illustrator importer with options for the vector and text. It seems like a simple thing to support PDF natively.
The method I have to use takes more time because I have to manually create a back page image and when I paste I have to move it into the right place, etc.
    Thanks!

  • Importing from Illustrator into Flash

    Hello,
I've created a text graphic in Illustrator CS2, which is stretched and with a light fill + a thin black stroke (0.1pt).
When importing into the Flash (CS3) library, I get an error message telling me that there's a compatibility problem because of the stretched text. Everything, besides the fact that the text should be stretched but isn't, looks fine in the graphic that's imported. All well and good, I go over to Illustrator and convert the text to outlines.
Then I try importing again, no error messages. But I get the problem that the outline is thicker than it was in Illustrator. Too thick. (Looks like 1 or 2pt).
I go back to Illustrator and outline the stroke, group the objects together for the sake of it, and try importing again. This time, the outline correctly displays on about 1/3 of the letters. But the rest..now have absolutely no stroke..
I then make a compound path out of all the objects. Which changed nothing, about how it imports into Flash.
I decided to just place the text as a jpeg/bitmap image in Flash, and it looks normal as in, the stroke is the right thickness and all letters have a stroke. But of course, it's pixels. And looks pretty horrible, especially where the letters get rather thin.
So I'm left clueless. Why won't the Illustrator file simply import as it should?
And how can I get it to do so?
    Thanks
    El

Would converting the text to Flash text in Illustrator be helpful?

  • Issue when importing ai files into Flash

Okay I have an Adobe Illustrator CS4 file that I am trying to import into Flash CS4.  The file is fine in illustrator, it's just when it comes into Flash that it has problems.  Namely, it doesn't render the shape correctly even though the subobject profile path is correct.  See attachment.  We're really zoomed in here, the shape itself isn't much larger than 10px square.
I've deduced that it is a scaling issue, but don't know how to get around it other than redrawing the shape again in flash.  It's not like flash has an issue with tiny elements, it seems to have an issue with elements drawn at a larger scale in ai and then scaled down, be it in ai directly or in flash after import.  There is a threshold in which it no longer wants to draw the shapes correctly anymore, as if the curve handles are being ignored and it's merely trying to draw a straight line.  Again this same file if brought in much larger renders properly, it's only when it has been scaled down previously that it becomes confused.
Anyone have any ideas on how to get around this problem?

Are you running the latest version of Flash CS4 (I believe it is 10.0.2)?  I don't have CS4, but I think I recall that something similar came up some months ago and the solution was to install the latest update for Flash CS4.

  • Importing PSD's into Flash

I'm using Flash 8, and have just started importing PSDs into
Flash. I actually found the import PSDs feature in CS3, and
discovered that you can import PSDs to Flash 8 as well.
The problem is, there is a color shift-the PSDs imported into
Flash appear lighter than they do in PS, or than a JPEG of the same
image appears when imported into Flash. I have noticed the same
problem with PNG's as well. They also appear lighter than a JPG of
exactly the same image when brought into Flash....
Does anyone know of any fix for this? Is it something to do
with color-profiles in PhotoShop (of which I know little about)?
    Thanks!

How was the original art created? Was the original RGB or CMYK? What is the resolution of the Photoshop file? Flash only works well with RGB and 72 pixel per inch resolution. If your original art is not set this way, then Flash will attempt to convert it as it imports it. Flash uses the sRGB color space. You'll get the best color translation if your Photoshop file is using this color preference.

How can I do this? Can anyone help me?

  • Color Shift When Importing JPG Sequence into Flash CS6

I am importing a jpg sequence into flash that has been exported from After Effects CS6. No matter what I try, the color will shift when the image imports into flash. The sequence originally started out as a vector graphic in Illustrator (color profile set to sRGB IEC61966-2.1) and then imported into After Effects for an animation that I couldn't quite achive in Flash. The color profile in After Effects is also sRGB IEC61966-2.1 with the "Match Legacy" checkbox checked. I export it out of After Effects as a JPG Sequence and then import into Flash. No matter what I try, the bitmap images' color will shift (become dull) when I import. Even when I open the images in Windows Photo Gallery, they look fine - it's only when I import into Flash.  I've also tried PNG and .PSD Sequence with the same result. I've searched around, but still haven't found a solution. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am in the midst of trying to figure out the opposite : Flash to After Effects.  I am betting that this is an issue of 'color profile' attached to the images and the gamma settings in that profile.  RGBA is only part of the story - color profile is all the rest of it.  Eye Dropper doesn't tell you the color profile attached to the image.
