Importing Microsoft Excel into ID

Is it possible to import a Microsoft Excel file into In Design and have it maintain all the chart formatting that appears in Excel if I have already styled in ID?
I built the ID pages from information supplied to me in Excel, customized the page layout, some info in charts, some info bulleted text of product description.
Now customer thinks they can give UPDATED excel files and expects the updates to be automatic.
Should I have made LINKS to Excel while I built the custom page layout? Was that a possibility?

You can import Excel files as tables into ID with almost all formatting intact. You cannot however place charts, such as pie and bar graphs.
You can link to the Excel file by specifying that in your preferences but you will not be able to apply formatting in ID and have it stick when you update the file unless you use table and cell styles.

  • Ipad Numbers apps unsuccessfully importing Microsoft Excel 2007 spreadsheet

    Here are what I did. I first sent a Microsoft Excel 2007 spreadsheet (the format is xlsx) to my email. And then I opened it via Numbers in iPad Mini. The Numbers was importing the Microsoft Excel 2007 spreadsheet. It took about 2-3 minutes importing the file. The importing status bar was indicating the progress. When the importing status bar was about completed and then the Numbers apps closed itself. I first thought it completed importing the file. I opened the Numbers apps, there was nothing. I attempted opening it for several times but it ended up the same. That seemed the Numbers was having a problem importing Microsoft Excel 2007 spreadsheet. By the way, there are several tabs in the Microsoft Excel 2007 spreadsheet. Would that be a reason why Numbers couldn't import the file successfully? Or maybe Numbers only import Microsoft Excel 2007 spreadsheet with single tab in the file? Please help!

The formula syntax you have does not match what number presents, so that could be the issue, but I seem to recall it has not had an issue converting in the past. Could be wrth a look however.

    hi all,
    There is a way to do so, We can export the MS SQL database to a text file or even to an excel report, and from both the data can be loaded into oracle database, useing oracle loader, if and only if the requirements by sqlldr is met.

    As a workaroud, how about merge mutiple excel files into one file, then import this excel file to sql table?

  • Import from Excel to Project - blanks cells are having dates automatically added

    Hi. I'm very new to Project but have started setting up a Roadmap using it which is working fairly well so far, although have hit one snag.
    I have data in Excel: it is a list of projects with 4 columns containing the dates of various stages (planning, initiate, execute, close). I have created a reusable map so this can be imported into Project and the Gantt chart to show pre-defined markers
    on the timeline for each stage on each project row. All well and good so far.
    However, not all of the projects in Excel have all of their dates defined. E.g. a project might not yet have a close date. But when this is imported into Project a date gets applied for it. I have no idea why!
    How do i get the import into Project to allow any blank cells from Excel to remain as blank so that nothing is plotted on the Gantt chart for that particular section?

    Thanks for both of your replies. I have tried this and the same issue occurs. I have checked each row in the imported Project data and they are all showing as set to 'manually selected' yet at some point in the import Project is adding data to blank cells.
    I have retried using a simple test excel sheet and when this too is mapped into Project, any blank cells get populated with the date that appeared in the preceding row for some reason:
    I can then go through and manually delete this cell in Project (which then replaces it with an "NA") - but if i have to manually do this whenever importing from Excel into Project then it makes it very time consuming.
    Surely there must be a way for Project to not auto-populate blank cells? Or am i missing something fundamental?

    I'm trying to figure out how to batch import a substantial amount of metadata in Microsoft Excel or Access to the IPTC core fields in Adobe Bridge CC. I've seen the issue discussed, but many of the posts about it are six or seven years old. So here are the simplest statement of the questions:
    1. Is it possible to export data from Excel or Access to XMP and then batch-import it in Adobe Bridge CC?
    2. If it requires templates, are there commercial, shareware, or freeware templates that will achieve this?
    3. If so, what are the links to those repositories?
    4. Is there a set of step-by-step instructions to achieve this on PC and/or Mac?

    it works for me without problems.
    Some information on my setup and what I did:
    - my primary browser language is English (en-us)
    1) Save the data in a file called hardware.txt:
    SERIAL,HOSTNAME,ITEM_TYPE,BRAND,MODEL,OWNER,STATUS

    - File: hardware.txt
    - Separator: , (comma)
    Worked fine.
    3) Load the data (copy /paste spreadsheet data into an existing table):
    - Open the file hardware.txt in Excel and import it into the spreadsheet
    - copy all three lines and paste them into the textarea in XE (the difference is that the columns are no longer separated by commas but by tabs)
    Worked fine as well.
    Please try the above mentioned steps and see whether you still get the error.

    I'm trying to import data from an Excel spreadsheet of a given set of columns (i.e. template) into Primavera. I wish to copy the data from Excel into a new activity at the Activity Level and have set up the template already at the Activity Level.
    It is easy to copy and paste data from Primavera into Excel, but it is not straight forward to copy Excel data into Primavera. I believe you have to import the data, but I do not know how to. Is there documentation somewhere that I can access, or is there someone who knows that can help?

    You can control the activities that are exported with the user of a filter in the template options.
    Go to Modify template options Add a new template or modify the existing
    template. The template contains options for exchanging data with
    Microsoft Excel or other spreadsheet applications. Click Modify to
    customize the selected template
    Select a Subject Area in the Modify Template dialog box to modify its
    options. In the Columns tab, select the fields to export. The available
    options are based on the selected subject area.
    In the Modify Template dialog box, click the Filter tab to select the
    activities you want to export for the selected subject area. If using more
    than one filter, choose to show activities that meet all selection criteria in
    each filter, or to show activities that must meet only one selection criteria
    in each filter. Select the filter(s) to use for the export file. If necessary,
    click Modify to edit the selected user-defined filter. The fields available for
    filtering are based on the selected subject area.

    Hi Guys,
    Is it possible to import an excel list or excel data into a SharePoint List that has already been created? Not create a new list.
    I know you can import a spreadsheet which will create a new list, but I don't want that because I have created columns already  that do calculations and such and I don't want to recreate them....
    It can be either an excel or access list, but I want to make sure the pre-existing columns in still my SharePoint list.

  • Unable to import the excel template into form in HFM

    Has any one came across this issue that I am facing now?
    I have a form in HFM and I exported the form to Excel and the export works fine. but when I import the excel template into form, it was not successful. I have 250 rows in the template. I deleted 50 rows and tried to import and it worked fine . Is there any row limit on this?

    What version of HFM and Excel?
    Make sure you honor the file extension requirements for 2007 docs and import the same as they are exported.

    Has anyone had success importing Microsoft Word comments into InDesign 5.5? I've read that this is possible, however, all my attempts have failed. I've checked that Track Changes is on in both InDesign and MS Word.
    The one pattern with all the files I've attempted is that, by the time I receive the file, the author has already accepted all tracked changes. The comments remain, but they do not import into InDesign.
    I have 'track changes' ticked on the import dialog.
    Is there anything I'm missing? Tips from people who've done this successfully would be greatfully apprecated.

    This metadata would import to a SINGLE column in SharePoint called IsTerritory, which is defined as a Checkbox (multiple values) Choice Field, limited to the values 1-8.
    Doc1 would have checkboxes 1,3, & 4 checked, Doc2 would have checkboxes 4 & 5 checked, and Doc 3 would only have checkbox 3 checked.
    Does that make a little more sense? I'm having problems validating my account, so I can't upload screenshots yet...
