Importing recordings

Can you import a voice recording from an olympus voice recorder and burn it to a cd?  Please advise how to do it if it can be done.

Hello Jim,
Thank you so much! I look forward to making these recordings over the course of the week. Thank you for the easy-to-follow instructions and the Soundtrack Pro manual reference number. Once I have completed my LP transfers, I will post here and let you know how it went.
Have a great day, and thanks again!

  • ITalk/Quickvoice import recordings?

I started recording with Quickvoice. But I can't find the recorded data when I want to import it to my computer. I have tried the Quickvoice Sync.. Didn't work. Shows this message: "1 recordings found. 0 recordings imported, 0 previously imported." When I look in the corresponding folder it shows 1 .dmp file.
Then I searched for another program. Found iTalk. I download the iTalk Sync program. My iPad and my computer are connected to the same wireless.. It finds my iPad, I double click on it as it is asked. I get this message: Couldn't connect to iPhone" So can someone explain how comes or does anyone knows another program that is easy to use in recording and syncing..

Did the sync.  It sent one file (the one saying to buy the pro app) to my Documents folder.
Already bought the pro app thinking it might help.  So why the one file and not the other?
This is seriously Bush league.   Being kept from a file on a device I own with software I bought but I can't get to it.  Absolutely crazy.  How does this software exist without the ability to grab your audio????
This is the kind of crap that makes people nuts with Apple.  And while I know it's a developer's software, this issue is uniquely Apple.
Please someone tell me how to fix this crap because I am very upset I am being denied access to MY audio.

  • Recordings from my Sony digital voice recorder transferred from WindowsXP  to my new Mountain Lion iMac but will not open to hear. Is there a program to give me access to these important records?

All my material moved from my Windows XP to my new desktop Mac Mountain Lion, including the important recordings from my Sony digital IC voice Recorder , but they will  not open in a form to be listened to. Is there a program available to give access to these audio files and allow continued use of this recorder ?

It is a proprietary Sony format, you will need help from them.

  • How do you import 16:9 without distortion??

.. it's time to get into that widescreen stuff..
I've seen this question on my German board, I don't own a 16:9 recording device, so probably, the experts on this board could help me to solve the puzzle..
    camera in use: Panasonic NV-GS120
trying to import recordings in iM08 and iMHD6 .. notice the aspect ratio distortion in the import-dialog of iM08 (final imports are distorted too.. ):
iMHD6 imports correctly ('letterboxing' switched-off), iM08 does not handle those recordings..
    anybody can give me advice...?

+No, my question has not been answered ...+
.. but I have to mark it 'solved' to get rid of it from my list of Questions ..

  • HT201412 Voice Memos quits/can no longer sync iphone 4 - linked problem

Voice Memos quits after two seconds of opening AND can no longer sync phone iphone4 to itunes, tried resetting, but don't want to restore phone to factory settings as I have important recordings I want to use. Help!!
I've taken itunes off computer and downloaded it again (suggested by other forum). No joy...
The two problems seemed to happen simultaneously.

diesel vdub - thanks for your comment.
    As noted in my post:
"Another problem is that I have thousands of music files on my iPhone, and only 180 songs are now showing up in the iTunes library. The majority of songs in both iTunes library and the music library on my iPhone are not purchased - they come from a large CD collection."
The hesitation comes from the fact that the number of songs that show up in my iTunes library is a small percentage of the number songs that were previously in the iTunes library.  My understanding is that if I sync the content of my iTunes library to the iPhone, I will end up losing thousands of songs that are currently on my iPhone but not in iTunes.
If I could find where the other songs went (and why iTunes is no longer seeing those song files) then perhaps I could load those back into iTunes and the risk of syncing will disappear.

  • How can I transfer mp3's to my iPad using an SD card?

    Here's the deal:
I am a reporter and I use a portable audio recorder to record material. I would like to import the recordings on my iPad via SD card, edit them (I only need to splice/join/trim), and e-mail them out. This is a very basic function for any mac, pc, or even a netbook, but I am yet to find a way to do this on the iPad, which is much more portable then my macbook.
I have read about people attempting to use the iPad camera connection kit to import mp3's, but this doesn't work. I don't need to open them in the native "music" app with all of my music from iTunes, I just need to edit them.
So I have a few questions:
    1. How can I import recordings with the iPad via SD or USB?
    2. Does anyone know of any simple, reliable audio editing apps that can join, splice, and trim recordings? Doesn't have to be fancy.
    3. Pretend I solve problems 1 and 2. How would I then e-mail them out or throw them in a dropbox to deal with them later?
Again, this is a very simple task for OSX or Windows, but I would much rather carry an iPad around then a Macbook.

The first thing you need to do is find the app of your choice at the app store (I'm not familiar with the type you need).  Everything depends on the app - can it import mp3 from Dropbox?  Can it import from iTunes (this should be possible).  Once a file resides with an app, the only way to email the data is if the app supports that.  You can't begin with the mail app and expect to somehow attach the mp3 file from there, it has to start with the app that stores the file.
So I would suggest you begin looking for appropriate apps.  For each, read about its import features and whether it can email out.
And yes, a mac can easily do this.  The problem with iOS is that each app is sandboxed, it cannot reach out to other apps and copy files from them.  In shortl, iOS is a different kind of operating system than OSX.
(Having reread your post, the real trick is getting the mp3 from your recorder to some other location, like Dropbox or iTunes.  I don't know what features your recorder has.  I know of no way to transfer the mp3 from SD to an iPad directly.

  • Mac Book or Mac Book Pro

I hope I am posting this in the correct spot. I am new to this discussion group and searched in hopes of an answer to this question, but couldn't find it anywhere.
Wondering if I should buy a Mac Book, Mac Book Pro or some sort of Windows based laptop. Leaning towards the Mac but only because I have an iMac G5 (two years old or so) and it seems to work ok....though it doesn't work with 2 out of three external devises I have....Sony DVD camcorder and a Sony Mini Disc recorder. But I guess that is Sony's fault.
So, what will I use it for? Not that much. Surfing the web at home from a quite room and on the road, emailing, iPhoto, iTunes, watching DVDs when my kids are using the TV, importing recordings I make on my mini disc and burning them onto CDs. (I am a professional musician and use these for rehearsal...the ones we sell are professionally produced.) I also do a lot of writing using MS word. I get lots of large PDF files (CD cover proofs, posters, etc.) I feel totally overwhelmed by my current iMac. The last Mac I owned was the Apple 2C. And I am only 32 years old, but for some reason I just got used to the awkwardness of my old Dell....that was, until it froze up over and over again, got sick all the time, etc. So...maybe there are two questions here. Which laptop (I have the money for the "pro" and like things to work fast, but am probably too much of a computer idiot to notice...so don't want to wast money)...and my second question...how do I learn to use my Mac? I went through the mac 101 course, but I find my mac to be very NOT intuitive and a little unclear. For instance, when I use "help" I absolutely NEVER find what I am looking for. I find the tutorials either way to complex or way too boring. In all fairness, I kind of just want things to work and not put that much effort into it, so I am sure it is all my fault and am prepared to be torn to shreds. But in the mean time, if you have on opinion about which laptop to get, I'd appreciate it. Oh, and if you could solve all of my other problems, that would be great too.
    Thanks,
    Adam

i think you answered your own question. you don't have any real hardcore requirements for getting the pro...you are doing fairly basic tasks...the MacBook is designed more for your needs. as for getting a Windows laptop, well, i can't really recommend that, but if you feel most comfortable with that OS then it really is simply a personal preference.

  • BT Vision, You View...... in fact BT in general

I cancelled my BT Vision service on 10th October to actually finish on 19th December ie at 12 months.
The reason I cancelled was because my You View box has been an awful experience, its been totally unreliable, I object to acting as a test bed for debugging problems and finally one day it erases over 250 hours of programmes some of which I had been keeping for the winter nights.
I followed up by telephoning BT on 13th October just to make sure it was cancelled (based on previous experience with BT) and was told it was cancelled. At the same time I renewed my BT package to now include unlimited broadband and got an email listing telephone line, telephone anytime calls and broadband unlimited as my new package to start 19th December.
All seemed fine until I got a bill in mid December which included BT Vision up to mid January 2014. It also included anytime calls twice (yes twice) as well to rub salt into the wounds.
I rang BT and they told me I hadn't cancelled my BT Vision and that I could cancel from that day but the cancellation would require 30 days notice. Strange says I, you sent me an email listing my new package starting 19th December which doesn't list BT Vision.
Since then I have made eight more phone calls, I have noted down each and every one I have spoken to, to get this sorted. I have spent nearly an hour each time talking to various people. I would love to list some of them here to embarrass them.
In addition I have had demands to return the You View box. I have questioned this only to be told that I should ignore this request as I had the subscription for the minimum of 12 months. I have asked them to write to me or email me telling me that I can keep the box and until today nobody has been in a position to email this to me, "I've put a note on the file" is the answer I get to which I reply, will that be as reliable as the note on the file to cancel my BT Vision in the very first place?
Today I get a letter and a plastic bag telling me to return the box.
I phone and finally speak to a decent person in BT who emails me to tell me that I can keep the box. Wonderful!
In addition I have now sent two detailed letters of complaint to BT, both by recorded delivery and both to the MD for the retail division. Both have been delivered, one mid Nov complaining about the YOU View box problems I have had and one mid Dec complaining about this latest debacle and also including a copy of the earlier complaint.
To date NO REPLY!  Great communications from a supposed communications company.
So BT let me explain to you what is going to happen, when this latest package is over I'm going to kiss you goodbye and go to a communication company who can communicate reliably with their customers. Assuming there is one of course.
Oh yes, by the way, I am told today that I have a credit coming on my next bill £6.90 for the BT Vision overcharge and £5.15 for the duplicated anytime calls. Thats a total of £12.05 credit for what must be eight hours spent on phone calls to BT and for writing two letters of complaint.
It saddens me to say that I used to support BT but it really has no idea how to look after its customers.

    Hi
Well to update, today I have had a call from a Neil who has apologised for the bad service.
It seems that the first of my letters has been received but no action was taken, the second has not appeared as yet even though I have a tracking confirmation that it was delivered. Apparently BTs service standards are to reply to complaints in 6 weeks, yes 6 weeks.
So yes all appears sorted, credits are on the way.
    However.
My experiences really are not an exception are they?
We ring BT to be told that they are "recording calls for training".......my word has anyone actually listened to the calls I have made and wondered why I as a customer stay and put up with this service?
We are asked to fill in surveys and my replies are damning, perhaps I am the exception!
I took up broadband about 7 years ago. It was a nightmare to start with simply becuase I had a router with a fault. Call after call to BTs technical help line, all of whom want to access your computer "to check the settings". You tell them that you have two computers and the dropping out occurs with both therefore altering the settings to one is rather pointless but no, they have to tweak this setting and ask you to see how it goes. I even get comments like "do you have a fluorescent light in your room" "do you have a fax machine" because at the time according to BTs technical help either would be the likely cause of me losing my broadband. And so it went on for months, finally one day I speak to a woman who looks at the history of my calls and says that she'll send me a replacement router. Problem solved!
Some years back I had horrendous problems with lost emails. Check me out for my other posts. Needless to say that finally after weeks of pestering yes they admitted that somehow a month of emails had disappeared from their webmail. As I work form home you can imagine the problems that caused me.
I have had numerous problems over the years, slow connections in particular however ring BT technical and its always me by default. You go through the most mindnumbing conversations with people who quite honestly in most cases I wouldn't let them walk my dog. Recently I spoke to one and happened to mention that I had a NAS plugged into my router. He in no uncertain terms told me that I should never plug anything else into my router........he hadn't a clue what a NAS was......this is BT technical help.
Then finally the BT You View, Vision debacle. I should never have done it. You see a box made by Humax and you assume it is going to work. The biggest issues with You View in my opinion are that its fairly clear its been launched and the customers are debugging it. Second issue is USB, theres two USB sockets which do nothing becuase they are not implemented. So after some many weeks possibly months of using the box I decide to back up some important recordings only to find I can't. Strange isn't it, we all know how hard drives can fail, we are told constantly to back up important data, theres two USB sockets that could allow this but don't. By then its too late to cancel the subscription even though I ask BT. No I'm told if I cancel early theres a penalty charge, why when the box has a USB socket in full view which on close inspection doesn't do anything.....its rather like having a towing hitch on a car only to find the day  you want to use it its made of plastic for decoration only. But no the earliest I can cancel with no charge is 19th Dec 2013. There then follows issue afte issue with the box, BT even send an engineer to check it and perform a factory reset but retaining my recordings. the final straw is one day in early October I turn it on only to find its telling me it needs a factory reset, to this day I don't understand why but some others on the You View forum have said that this is a bug! I perform the reset being paranoid to ensure that I pick the option which enables a factory reset and retains my recordings and you can guess over 250 hours of recordings deleted. Of course had the USB worked, most would have been backed up!
So I cancel the box and somehow BT manage to lose this instruction even though three days later I ring to check this is being actioned and I'm told it is. The rest is as per my first posting.
I have spoken to so many people most of whom are not fit for purpose. They can't action anything, they can't send emails confirming anything, yet they ask in my case did I get an email confirming the cancellation? For a firm dealing with communications they need to look up the meaning of the word in the OED.
Saying all this, every so often you come across someone who will help, Neil today, Aaron is another, both the BT engineers who have visited have been superb. Dare I say, when I moan to BT engineers about the telephone support they too agree its appalling.
You ring to be told "we are very busy". Well BT perhaps you wouldn't be so busy if you dealt effectively with customer issues the first time they rang and every time a customer ordered or cancelled something you could actually send an email confirming this. It all seems so random, sometime you do, sometimes you don't.
Sad isn't it? A great British institution which everyone I speak to seems to hate dealing with.
But what do you do? Ok this is sorted, but I know deep down only until the next time. Is anyone out there in BT land reading this I wonder? Will anything actually change or improve.....no it will not of that I am 100% sure.

  • Maximum audio sample rate and bit depth question

Anyone worked out what the maximum sample rates and bit depths AppleTV can output are?
I'm digitising some old LPs and while I suspect I can get away with 48kHz sample rate and 16 bit depth, I'm not sure about 96kHz sample rate or 24bit resolution.
If I import recordings as AIFFs or WAVs to iTunes it shows the recording parameters in iTunes, but my old Yamaha processor which accepts PCM doesn't show the source data values, though I know it can handle 96kHz 24bit from DVD audio.
It takes no more time recording at any available sample rates or bit depths, so I might as well maximise an album's recording quality for archiving to DVD/posterity as I only want to do each LP once!
If AppleTV downsamples however there wouldn't be much point streaming higher rates.
I wonder how many people out there stream uncompressed audio to AppleTV? With external drives which will hold several hundred uncompressed CD albums is there any good reason not to these days when you are playing back via your hi-fi? (I confess most of my music is in MP3 format just because i haven't got round to ripping again uncompressed for AppleTV).
No doubt there'll be a deluge of comments saying that recording LPs at high quality settings is a waste of time, but some of us still prefer the sound of vinyl over CD...

I guess the answer to this question relies on someone having an external digital amp/decoder/processor that can display the source sample rate and bit depth during playback, together with some suitable 'demo' files.

  • MOV Volume Level

When I import recordings from my Vulkano device into iTunes, the videos are 20-30% louder than all my other videos. I do know how to adjust the volume in a MOV file, so that's not my question. My question is:
Can I view somewhere the current embedded default volume level of a video so I know exactly how much I need to adjust the volume?
    For example, can I...
    1. Open an iTunes Store video and a Vulkano video in this mystery app
    2. See that according to this mystery app the iTunes video volume is set at "6" but the Vulkano video volume is set at "8"
    3. Use Quicktime (or in my case probably Subler) to adjust the volume of the Vulkano video until it is at "6" according to the mystery app
    Thanks!

    Adam -
In your System Preferences there is a panel called
'Sound.' It's typically in the second row of prefs at
the far rights, the last one I believe.
Check that your Output Volume is not slid way over to
the left. In the Output tab check that your speakers
    are balanced.
The output tab is the one controled by the buttons on my keyboard. I know that the problem has to do with iTunes because when I click on an imported song, it says "-13 DB" under volume. when I burn that song, it plays a lot quieter than the original CD on the same player in the same format.
I know this is pretty basic stuff I'm giving ya here
but sometimes it's the stuff right in front of us
    that can cause problems! : - )
Are you playing thru your computers built-in
speakers? Don't expect much volume or quality there.
If you play to external speakers, do they have volume
control knobs that you perhaps might want to adjust?
I play my music through a variety of players, all of which have sound adjustments. But when the same song is played, one burnt with iTunes and the other the original, the iTunes one sounds a ton quieter.

  • AVCHD - IMOVIE - APPLE TV - CONFUSION

    Hi All,
this is my first post on the discussion boards. I've owned my iMAC now for about 6 months and its been great.
My wife is pregnant with our first due in the next month We are wanting to buy a HD Hard Drive Camera to capture as much as we can on video of the "early days". This is where my usually Mac Literate head is getting confused ad for the first time I find myself not being able to understand the usual intuitive Mac thinking.
My intent is to record on the Handycam, import to iMovie for editing etc then display on my TV using Apple TV (of which I am about to buy, not just for this reason).
I am going to buy the Sony SR12 which records in AVCHD, according to the list of supported Camcorders within Apple Support the camcorder is supported by iMovie. In digging a little deeper though it seems I'm going to have some challenges getting the Footage onto APPLE TV.
I have researched prior to posting and am looking for confirmation here of my understanding of the steps required to get my AVCHD recorded Home movies into imovie, then onto Apple TV
    Step 1.
Record on the handycam only using AVCHD (told if I mix recording on the handycam between SD and HD iMovie will not pick-up the HD stuff.
    Step 2.
Connect Camera and import recordings similar to iPhoto (????)
At this point iMovie converts the AVCHD footage to AIC to enable storage and editing.
    Step 3. - Here's where I get confused
Somehow I need to get the now iMovie converted AIC formatted footage in iMovie to display on Apple TV.
How do I do this ?
what are the steps involved ?
do I need 3rd party software to convert formats etc ?
Thanks in advance for reading my post.
    Dylan

I have had troubles similar to the ones that you are facing now. I have an HDV (MPEG 2) camcorder that I use for family video recording, and an Apple TV. In this post, I will discuss what I normally do with my video, and I have some comments on what other users have said here.
First of all, the Apple Intermediate Codec is NOT lossless. In fact, it is highly compressed, just not as much as AVCHD (H.264). In the AIC, every frame is basically a JPEG. So even if this format looks lossless (to the eye or file size), it actually isn't.
That said, now to my workflow.
The first way I export my videos is like how Winston said. I use the 960x540 resolution in iMovie. While this format looks OK on my Apple TV, it is still not as good as if I played directly off the camcorder. This is because the resolution is only 1/4 the resolution of the original source, and the bitrate is much lower. So, I make a higher quality backup that I can edit or view at a later time, but keep in mind that this backup will not play on the Apple TV because of its video limitations. Those can be found here under 'Video formats supported':
    http://www.apple.com/appletv/specs.html
If I were in your position, I would try to back up the actual AVCHD files directly from your hard drive. Since I have never used one of these cameras, I am not exactly sure how you would get these file or what they look like, but I would guess that the hard drive mounts on your computer when you plug it in via USB. The file format might be something like .MP4 or .TS (just look for the big files). From there, MPEG Streamclip can export them to AIC if you ever want to edit them again.
I normally export to H.264 720p30 @ 8 mbps and stereo AAC audio @ 160 kbps when I know that I am finished editing. But how you want to preserve your video is totally up to you. Some people are bigger on quality than others. The only thing that I would NOT recommend is that you back up your video in AIC format (or other codecs that are that lowly compressed). This is just a total waste of hard drive space, especially when you can keep the original files for (at least) half of the space.
Hope this helps, and good luck!! -- Ian.

  • Is there any way to recover my ipod's data after water damage ?

My ipod fell in water (toilet). I turned it on to see if it still worked (I know I shouldn't had to) and the screen hardly worked. The morning after nothing worked so i put it in a sock beside the refrigerator ( warm and dry place).I've been constantly travelling so i couldn't take it to a specialist. I had some really important recordings (dictaphone app) and i'd like to know if there is any way to recover them. Thank you SO MUCH for taking your time to read this. Have a nice day

I did and was told that they're waiting on the replacement of the defective screen.  The battery is slowly draining, so it doesn't seem that they're using it, I was just hoping there was a way to double check without saying flat out that I'm starting to not trust them.  KWIM?  I'm  nowthinking that once the battery dies, I'm going to activate the lost mode and hope for the best.

  • Absolute beginner's question about movie making from camcorder

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, but I had to start someplace. My daughter just got a Sony DCRDVD mini handycam 105. It has NO hookup for importing recordings onto a computer. It has the small dvd's, the 8cm size. She has tried it on her Dell, running WindowsXP by placing it in the drive tray but it won't recognize the disc. I am using an iMac G5 iSIght and was wondering if anyone had any idea if there is a way to import the video from this size disc onto this machine. (I"m sure the side slot loading superdrive is out of the question) The cameras only adapter is one that allows it to be plugged into a TV or VCR using RCA type plugs. Surely there is SOME external drive that will allow my mac to be able to import the video on these discs. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. It has her wedding and reception on it and is afraid it's lost and can never be edited in any way.
    Thanks

My last bit of advice would be to use a DVD - R (or - RW) which at this point in time a more universal (older) format v. DVD + R which is a little newer and not all older DVD/VCR players can read...
Well, at least that's what they tell me...

  • Deleted Shows off DVR

I had a bunch of shows get deleted off my DVR because it said I didn't have enough space.  Is there anyway to get them back??
    Thanks, Sue

    Hi Sue,
Unfortunately the answer is NO. If a recording is deleted by a user, or because the Series Manager is set to only keep a certain number of episodes, it is kept in the Recent Deletes folder (like a computer's recycle bin) until it is overwritten by another recording. In this case you could just go to that folder, select the recording and restore it. But when it is deleted by the DVR to create enough hard drive space to record a new program, the deleted program is immediately overwritten and can no longer be recovered.
Here are your options to prevent this from happening in the future:
Protect your recordings by selecting the Save Until I Delete option. A shield symbol with a plus sign will appear beside each protected recording. This program cannot be deleted except by the user or the Series Manager. Just be aware that while you won't lose these recordings, when you run out of space the new recordings will stop.
Unprotect less important recordings so that they can be overwritten if necessary.
Record more shows in SD rather than HD. HD takes up about 4 times as much disk space making it more likely for you to run out sooner. If you don't need the wide-screen or quality, consider this option.
    Schedule fewer recordings.
If you don't already have a 500GB model, upgrade your DVR. But you won't be able to take your recordings with you, so you'll have to watch them all before the exchange.
If you have any DVR model other than a 2708 or 6416, you can expand your recording space with an external hard drive.
As for the recordings you are missing now, you can try searching for them in the On Demand menus, or going online to sites such as Hulu or the individual network sites, or there are pay services such as Netflix.

  • Couldn't synchronize music

I couldn't synchronize my music from my computer to my iPhone 5 IOS 7.1.2. It stopped at step 2, which is backing up iPhone for more than 6 hours. I have some important recordings in my phone and I can't take it out now! Please help me!!

    Hello,
First things first...get a full copy off of that SD card to your PC while you have it visible there...you never know!!
Next, when you have the card in the BB, what exactly displays on the BB. Anything at all for the card? Does it not recognize it at all? Can you format it?
Do you have another card to try? Especially if you can obtain a card that is working perfectly in another BB, that would be a good test.
Likewise, using your card in another BB would be an equally good test.
All of this will hopefully root out the problem...and if it's the actual card reader on your BB, then you may have a hardware problem requiring evaluation by a qualified hardware technician.
    Good luck!
