Importing Word 2010 Developer Dropdown fields

I have been trying to import a form designed in MS Word 2010 with tabled containing Word Developer dropdown fields into LiveCycle Designer ES3. My OS is Windows 7.
The process always fails.
The importing Word Document begins with Converting Tables and within a few seconds i receive the message "Adobe LiveCycle Designer Word Import Filter has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program."
There are several dropdown fields in the Word document a few with 30-40 options to select from. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as the time required to recreate the fields in LiveCycle would take at least a full day.

Hi Markus,
Could you tell me how did you go to "Layout" properties in step 6?

  • RH9 -  Import Word 2010 - Bookmarks not working

    We use Technical Communications Suite 3 with Robohelp 9 HTML.
    I import a Word 2010 doc (about 400 pages) and generate Microsoft HTML help.
    In the Word document we have cross-references to headings and bookmarks. The bookmarks work in Word, they work when I convert the Word Doc to a PDF using Adobe Acrobat X, however when I import the document into Robohelp 9 HTML they do not work.
    The cross-references to headings work but the ones to bookmarks end up with href="".
    I can edit the html and manually put in the href ="filename#bookmark" and it works but I want it to convert automatically upon import. The booksmarks in the word document read "(see page xyz)", where the xzy is the cross-reference to the bookmark, using a pagenumber field, so that in a printed document the user sees the page number and in the PDF, Word Doc, etc. and hopefully in the chm they can just click on the link.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    david

    Greetings,
    Thanks for the comments. At your suggestion, I was able to get it to work in a small project using a 3-4 page Word document. However it still would not work in my larger project. I noticed that in the large project there were bookmarks that did work to a point in the document andintermittent there after. I went into the Word document to the first failure and re-inserted a new bookmark with the same name hoping it would have a positive result. The results were the same.
    However when I inserted a bookmark with a different name, RoboHelp9 was able to recognize the bookmark and would convert to a link. I went through the Word document and created new bookmarks for the ones that did not work (a big task indeed). Now I am able to use the Word document as the source rather than having to edit the HTML in RoboHelp. This is good. Now only if I can get the footnotes to behave the same way....
    Granted, I don’t know why a set of the original bookmarks were not working when they worked in other format conversions (Acrobat -> pdf, Word->HTML, XPS), but I can move on. Possibly it has something to do with Window 7 x64….
    But, thanks for the input; it put me on a workable path.
    Thanks again,
    David

  • Can Word 2010 populate fillable fields in a pdf fillable form?

    Is it possible to define fillable fields in a word 2010 document (name, address, city, state, zip, date) so that after a save to pdf and [Page] add existing file, an existing pdf fillable form will auto-populate same named fields in the added pdf fillable form?

    Thanks, George!  In the form I am creating, I ask respondents to identify a number of organizations that they work with.  For example, I ask "Please list up to ten organizations" and then I provide ten text boxes for organizations 1-10.  I then ask a series of follow up questions (radio buttons, check boxes, and rating scales) about each organization.  I would like to auto-populate the fields of those follow up questions with the names of the organizations that the respondents had written.  Does that make sense?  Will this require JavaScript?  My hope is to avoid complicated scripts that may give respondents technical problems with the form.  Thanks again,
    Andy

  • Imported Word 2010 into RH8 Question

    I just imported several Word 2010 docs into a new project.  There is a dotted box around the content (see image and ignore the blue outline):
    Does anyone know why the content is in this box as opposed to there not being a box at all?  Does it create any issues with the output of the content?

    RoboHelp always creates a new CSS that it attaches to topics created from an import. You can select all of them in the Topic List and then right click to select Topic Properties and change the CSS used. Post back if things don't look right.

  • Adding a merge field to an email hyperlink in a word 2010 email mailmerge

    I am using word 2010, excel 2010, and outlook 2010 to send out the following email with email mailmerge to 50 + people.
    The highlighted names in the greeting are two merge fields - First_Name and Last_Name.
    The hyperlink is an email hyperlink to the following email message:
    Will you attend?   ___ Yes   ___  No
    The hyperlink is as follows:
    I would like to place the merge First_Name Last_Name in the hyperlink to sign the RSVP email back to me. I have tried many modifications of the hyperlink code and nothing works consistently. It will place one name as the signer but will not pick up
    the following names the merge fields.
    I would like the final email hyperlink to look like this:
    Will you attend?   ___ Yes   ___  No
    Jody Smith
    Can anyone tell me how to add the First_Name Last_Name to the hyperlink email so that each ricipient's name from the original email will appear in the hyperlink email as shown
    above?
    Thanks!

    Hi All,
    To help other community members who may have similar problem, I quote Peter Jamieson's answer here:
    (Edited a little...)
    I can get this to work here, but there are some things you need to pay attention to when merging to HTML email (rather than to new documents etc.).
    The Hyperlink field code I start with is as follows:
    { HYPERLINK }
    Insert that using ctrl-F9 to insert the special field brace pair { }, insert the Word HYPERLINK, then select the field and update it using F9.
    View the field code results (press Alt-F9 if necessary). In the English language version of Word you should see
    Error! Hyperlink reference not valid.
    Important point number 1:
    Do not update the result of this HYPERLINK field again (i.e. don't select it and press F9). If you do, every email will always show the same link text. As
    far as I can remember, this behaviour is different when you merge to a document rather than email, or perhaps merge to attachments. This can be a problem if you need to update other fields in your email, or if the email is being used by other people who might
    (for whatever reason) update the HYPERLINK field
    Now modify the display text.
    Use the Arrow keys to move the insertion point so it is between the "E" and the "r" in the Word "Error", and type
    Click here to RSVP!
    Then you can select and delete the "E", and the "rror! Hyperlink reference not valid."
    Select the text and apply the Hyperlink style to it (Home tab of the Ribbon->Styles).
    When you toggle field code display using alt-F9, you should see the original field
    { HYPERLINK }
    Now click after the K of HYPERLINK and insert the following fields and text (or copy them from somewhere else):
     "{ SET x 1 }mailto:*** Email address is removed for privacy ***?subject=July%20Wine%20and%20Spine%20&body=%20Will%20you%20attend?%20%20%20___%20Yes%20%20%20___%20No%0A%20%0a%2{
    MERGEFIELD First_Name%20{MERGEFIELD Last_Name }"
    so that your field now looks like
    { HYPERLINK "{ SET x 1 }mailto:*** Email address is removed for privacy ***?subject=July%20Wine%20and%20Spine%20&body=%20Will%20you%20attend?%20%20%20___%20Yes%20%20%20___%20No%0A%20%0a%2{
    MERGEFIELD First_Name%20{MERGEFIELD Last_Name }" }
    As usual, all the {} need to be the special field code brace pairs that you can enter using ctrl-F9 on WIndows Word.
    At this point, experienced field users will have to resist the temptation to select the fields and update them. Dont do it!
    Save the document.
    Test the email merge. At this point, I would hope to see the results you want.
    If not, I do not know why this works OK on my system but not yours.
    Important point number 2 You may be wondering why
    there is a { SET x 1 } field inside the HYPERLINK code. It's because when you are working with a .docx, if you save, close and reopen your document, you may find that Word has resolved all the merge fields nested inside your HYPERLINK field (i.e. replaced
    the field codes by their results). This behaviour can appear arbitrary, and the reason that (for some reason), Word does not resolve the nested fields if there is a Word bookmark inside the HYPERLINK field. Now if the insertion point or selection ws inside
    the HYPERLINK field when you save/close the document, there will be a bookmark in there, because Word inserts a bookmark called _GoBack, which enables the user to go back to the previous selection. But if you click outside the HYPERLINK field before you save,
    there wil be no such bookmark and Word will resolve your field codes. So we put the { SET x 1 } in there to ensure that there is a bookmark (in this case, called X) to prevent that from happening.
    Alternatively, if you save as .doc format (not recommended these days if you can avoid it) Word does not resolve these fields and you don't need the { SET } field.
    And that's it. Whether that will be enough for your Merge to work as you hope, I cannot be sure, but all I can say is that without doing those 2 things, it almost certainly
    won't.
    [[I originally had a third thing. I actually now think it's incorrect, but I'm going to leave it here just in case.
    Important point number 3: If it does not work, there is
    at least one other thing that could be wrong, although I think it is highly unlikely. There is a Windows registry setting called FieldCalcSecurityLevel, which was introduced about 12 years ago when Microsoft made some security-related changes to the behaviour
    of certain types of field. I'm not going to step through how to look for that, but for example, in my registry, for Word 2010, it is at
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Word\Options
    It may be elsewhere.
    If you cannot find that Option, or it is there and is set to the default value (1), then something else is wrong and I do not know what it is. However, if it is set to 0 (which
    makes Word use its original behaviour, you will have to set it to 1 to get this to work.
    Thanks for your understanding.

  • Word 2010 dropdown

    I was wondering if it's possible to have a dropdown list link to a text box in MS Word 2010.
    If I have a dropdown with the values Orange and Purple and when you select on Orange the text box would display Orange's data  in the Text Box.
    I hope that make some since.

    Hi,
    I think it's possible but it's better to post the question in Word for Developers forum:

  • Importing a second Index from Word 2010 into InDesign CC

    I am working on a 1000 page book. It was imported from Word 2010. Things imported messy but I am cleaning it up. The second index imported as text but did not attach to the reference in the text. The Index worked as did the table of contents. What can I do and how do I work with this. I have never had this kind of a situation.

  • Word 2010 PDF adds "##B" characters to styleref fields

    When I convert  a Word document containing the styleref field (to insert the current heading in the header), to Acrobat, it adds numbers and the letter "B" before the styleref. The headings appear as "13BExecutive Summary", "20BAccount Management", etc. Oddly, my coworker with the same software versions on her laptop does not get the characters added.
    Is there a setting in Word that causes this? How do you fix it?
    Windows 7, Word 2010, Acrobat X 10.1.0.
    Thanks!
      --Barry

    It is likely a setting you have. If you open the print menu in WORD and select the Adobe PDF printer, does the print preview look correct? If so, can you print it properly. I just tried it and the print preview showed all the way to the corners as designed and the PDF came up the same way. Are you actually printing or using PDF Maker? What version of Acrobat are you using?

  • Using a multiple word choice in a dropdown field to fire a java script

    I'm a complete beginner to java script, and relatively new to form building in Acrobat.
    I'm using a dropdown field to auto-fill other fields based on my 1st dropdown selection.
    The 1st dropdown field allows me to select a variety of vendors.  Once I select the vendor, it auto-fills the contact info for that vendor.
    I plagiarized the scripting from this link: https://acrobatusers.com/tutorials/change_another_field.  I even changed my field names for the time being.  I'll change my form field names back and the script to match once I have it working the way I want.
    If I use a single name in my vendor dropdown (1st field), the script works perfectly and auto-fills the contact information as expected.  However, many of my vendors are two or more words...and I need these full names to print out, so I cant just make a one word contraction.  Here's the script as I'm using it:
    Here's an example of a single word vendor name that works as expected:
    // Place all prepopulation data into a single data structure
    var DeptData = { ADLEMI:{ contact: "P.O. BOX 2371",
                                  email: "DOWNEY, CA  90242",
                                  deptnum: "PHONE: (562) 923-0333  FAX: (562) 923-8111" }};
    function SetFieldValues(cDeptName)
      this.getField("DeptContact").value = DeptData[cDeptName].contact;
      this.getField("DeptEmail").value = DeptData[cDeptName].email;
      this.getField("DeptNumber").value = DeptData[cDeptName].deptnum;
    The single vendor name I used in the example above is 'ADLEMI.'  If I add 'BEST' to ADLEMI (see below) I receive a syntax error.  I really need to be able to use multiple words in my Vendor dropdown to trigger the auto-fill.
    // Place all prepopulation data into a single data structure
    var DeptData = { ADLEMI BEST:{ contact: "P.O. BOX 2371",
                                  email: "DOWNEY, CA  90242",
                                  deptnum: "PHONE: (562) 923-0333  FAX: (562) 923-8111" }};
    function SetFieldValues(cDeptName)
      this.getField("DeptContact").value = DeptData[cDeptName].contact;
      this.getField("DeptEmail").value = DeptData[cDeptName].email;
      this.getField("DeptNumber").value = DeptData[cDeptName].deptnum;
    The only difference is I added a space and the word 'BEST' after ADLEMI.  Is there a way around this.  I need to have multiple words in my dropdown, or at least the full name of the vendor showing in the field when I print it out.
    Thanks

  • Importing a .doc file into RH7 using Word 2010?

    For the benefit of anyone else, yes you do need a compatible version of Word to import a document that is in .DOC format.

  • RH8 & Office 2010 import Word file error/failure

    We are running RH8.02.208 on XP.  We just upgraded to Office 2010.  When we try to use file/import Word Document we are getting this error message
    Word is installed correctly, and this kills the process.
    Does anyone have an idea why we have hit this solid brick wall?  And how to get around it?  Thank you!!!

    Hi Teri
    Sorry, but Jeff is correct. Only RoboHelp 9 works with Office 2010. No patch I'm afraid.
    I guess if enough folks screamed at Adobe about it one might emerge, but I'd personally not be holding my breath.

  • Word 2010 Field Code makes page header disappear

    Hi,
    I am working on converting some word 2003 documents to Word 2010, but we found that the behavior of field code seems different in word 2010. We use field codes in a page to embed postscript command such that printer can pick up a correct paper tray. The
    command is like this:
    PRINT \p page "grestore matrix currentmatrix <</MediaType (NORM) /MediaColor (white)>>setpagedevice setmatrix gsave"  \* MERGEFORMAT
    But I found that when there is a field code on the top of a page and the page has header defined on it, the header will not be printed out, just like the field code "kick out" the header. I try the word advance option "Print PostScrit over
    text" but it does not work, If use this option, the field code seems occupy one row and the entire content will roll over more than 1 page.
    Does any professional encounter this problem? Any solution can be shared with me?

  • Import Word 2007 Form check boxes undefined

    Any one have any idea on how to get the forms wizard to import the field property names for check boxes in an Adobe form?
    I have a Word 2007 form which I have tried saving as a .doc, .dot, dotm, .docx and no matter what format I choose, I cannot get the check box fields to import.  I used the legacy checkbox field under the developer ribbon in Word 2007 to create the check boxes.   I have tried to import with protection on the word form enabled and stopped but it doesn't make a difference. The check box fields come across fine but the name and the text fields both say undefined rather then display the field name given in Word.  I am using Adobe 9 pro.  I have checked my Adobe preferences in Word and made sure all the boxes were checked for converting bookmarks but it still did not make a difference.  The text fields are importing fine with the property field names.
    Here is an example:
    I have a yes check box that is labeled StorageY and a no checkbox labeled StorageN for the properties in Word.  I then went to the form wizard in Adobe 9 and selected start with existing form and selected the fillable word form I created with the check boxes.  I imported it and the check box properties say Undefined for both storageY and storageN.   There are about 60 check boxes in the document and I don't want to retype them every time in Adobe when the word form is updated and has to be conveted again.
    I sure hope there is a solution.
    Thanks.

    Thanks for the information but I respectfully disagree with "there is no import".  If you open Adobe Acrobat
    9 pro and go to Forms, Start Forms Wizard, select An Existing electronic document and click on Next. Select "import" a file from file system and browse for the word document and click on Next.
    Using this method not only runs the automatic field recognition you were referring to, it also brings in all the word form field text and formats with the exception of the check boxes.  My only guess is the problem has something to do specifically with the check box fields as it does bring over the radio button text.  A lot less work to keep the form updated.  It rocks.  You should try it some time.
    Word 2007 pdf writer does the same thing as the openoffice.org but neither bring across the form field info.  They just create a starting point and you would have to use the method you described above to create the fillable form.
