Improve Search Ranking

I'm trying like crazy to improve the search ranking for a
site:
www.whitelightcottonclothing.com and I can't get bring it out
of the
boonies.
I want it to at least appear on the first page for a search
for "white
light cotton clothing" and ideally a first page result for
"cotton
clothing."
I've got keywords, a sitemap, added to google and yahoo, I
don't know
what else to do? I been trying to get into the dmoz but can't
get it in.
any ideas?

You have at least two problems on that page -
1. There is almost no content
2. What content is there, is not contained within semantic
markup (e.g.,
<h1>, <h2>, etc.)
Forget the keyword meta tag - it will not help you at all.
You can read about this all here -

  • Improved Search on Google.....

I have built separate webites for my two Daughters. I own the .com, .co.uk, and .me urls for both sites, however when I search for their names on Google I do not get a hit until page 3/4 of the search results.
The question is, how do I improve their search ranking on Google and other search sites ?. I have both sites password protected currently.
    All help appreciated.

    Hi,
Unfortunately a password protected website cannot be ranked in Google very easily. There is a way around this but its not possible to do in iWeb and isn't very effective for a site that is entirely password protected.
My suggestion to you would be to only password protect certain pages, not the entire site. If you want it to be found in Google by just about everyone, why would you password protect the entire site?
Wyodor's suggestion of "Give your kids stupid names." will actually help you It would be much easier for a website to rank for a term that is very unique.
My suggestion to you would be to have your main page talk about what the site is about with a link telling people to click to see the family pictures which are password protected. In your page title and page content make sure to mention your daughter's full names.

I'm a little confused, since you're working on Open Files, you know which files you want to work with. It sounds like you were doing two Find operations, one to get a list of all of the files with a given code fragment and then another after opening the files you knew needed to be changed?
    It's still two Find operations.
One to find all of the files, and a second affecting only those selected files you know you want to adjust (leaving out certain pages for reasons DW couldn't possibly understand without possibly some RegEx work). The only difference I can see is you don't need to actually go through and open those files, you just select them from the Files list.
    Maybe I'm missing something.
In the vast majority of F&R scenarios that I conduct, if I'm replacing something, it's replaced site-wide or just replaced once in a .css or ssi file that's then propagated to the pages by the user's browser or the server.
Maybe working with Regular Expressions is really what you're looking for?
Using regular expressions – Part 1: Understanding the basic building blocks | Adobe Developer Connection
Using regular expressions – Part 2: Finding and replacing text | Adobe Developer Connection
That would allow you to determine what's found and/or replaced based on variables of your choosing anyway.

  • Verity search ranking

    Hi,
I've been playing around with verity and was wondering if
there is a way to modify the way verity does its ranking.
Say I'm looking for Foo Bar, but I'd like to include those
with just Foo and those with just Bar, but those should be right at
the end (low score). How can I achieve this?
Using OR will give documents with Foo, documents with Bar,
and documents with both Foo and Bar the same score (0.7967). And if
I do an ANDed search I only get the last one (which I'd expect). Is
there a way express my request better, or configure verity to index
    around my own personal taste.
    Search Term:
    Foo Bar
    Order I'd like:
documents with both Foo and Bar (score ~1.0)
documents with just Foo (score ~0.5)
documents with just Bar (score ~0.5)
    Thanks,
    J_C_C

In my understanding enterprise can index 1 location. That can
either be the localhost or another server. Not both. If it is on
another server you must install verity from the Coldfusion disc.
Then in the admin look under "Data & Services" -> Verity K2
Server to set the server name.
I am unsure if this can be done with standard edition.

  • Free iWeb SEO Tool to Help Improve Search Engine Rankings

    Hi,
    I have just posted a free iWeb SEO Tool that will let you add and edit all your meta tags and header information, as well as a few other important search engine optimization factors. Here is a brief description of what it can do;
iWeb SEO Tool is the only software that makes it easy to get your iWeb built website ready for search engines.
Since Apple has often neglected key SEO strategies in their iWeb software, it is difficult for many iWeb based websites to rank high in search engines. This is why we have created this free utility to help you properly optimize your website.
    Features include;
    1) Easily add meta tags such as description and keywords
    2) Edit your title tags for each pages
    3) Add robot rules and language meta tags
    4) Add alternative text for images
    5) All settings are saved in a private database so next time you publish your site you can take all the saved SEO copy and apply to your new site
    6) Edit sites locally or directly on your iDisk
    I am looking for feedback on this tool to see how useful it can be. If you find any problems, please let me know. You can download this tool by creating a free beta testers account at;
    http://www.trybeta.com/home/
Please let me know if this is useful for anyone. It is completely free for all iWeb users.
*I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link*
    <Edited by Moderator>

    1. To publish to .Mac just mount your iDisk and go to Web/Sites/ and you will see your old site there. Delete that site and just copy your new site to the location.
    2. Just press the load from iDisk button in the toolbar and enter your username and password. Your sites from your iDisk will load in iWeb SEO Tool.

  • (SEO) Improving Search Engine Rankings with FB4/Flex 4 (spark)

Is FB4/Flex 4/spark components doing work to make Flash RIA sites searchable?

    Hi,
We are not doing anything specific in Spark to enable more searchability, we are still waiting on the search engines to continue to improve their implementations to support loading content dynamically which will then expose the text that is on the screen.  We do have some thoughts on things we can do with deep linking to help promote structure to the search engines in the future, but that would also require cooperation with the engines and isn't something we can do entirely on our own.

  • Search ranking (Autonomy) of weblogic portal's content management?

    Hi All,
I would like to know is there any methods for me to manually customize the ranking of the search results of the contents in the content management repository provided by the weblogic portal? Either in Autonomy aspect or in Weblogic portal aspect is ok.
What I prefer is to add some tags into the content document so that I can make the desired content to have a higher ranking in the search results.
    Thank you for yours help!

    Hi Kevin,
If there is a single search you wish to order results for, and the search results are generally of a single ObjectClass, one way to do this is to add a new property definition of a numerical type to the ObjectClass.
Make this an explicit property (which means you would need to manually add a column to the CM_NODE table).
For each Node in the search result, you could assign this property value.
You can then sort on the explicit property values in the search.

  • Improving Search for Keywords in NI Example Finder

Search for Keywords is presently limited to logical "OR" search. It would highly profit from logical "AND" Search.

Thinking out of the box here...
It's possible to search just the bookmarks with a script. The problem is how to show the result, since it's not possible to highlight the found bookmarks.
One option I can think of is to change the color of the matches to a different color, like red. Unfortunately, this doesn't work in Reader...
The only other option that might work in Reader is to tell the user where to look, ie which position in the tree (and what items are before and after it).

  • Improving search by allowing variations of a term

    Hi,
I working on sharepoint site for a client. It has enterprise search enabled. On the search results page, I have enabled Stemming on Search Core Results webpart. After that I am able to search/get results for different variations of a terms.
Problem is coming for concatenated terms like rule book. My client wants that if user searches for rule book, rules book, rule books, rulebook, rulesbook etc., it should consider these as synonyms and return same search result.
One option is to use Thesaurus file and add all these terms in a expansion set. But it will become a large set with different permutations and combinations with spaces, w/o spaces, with hyphen, with "rules", with "books". Similarly, there are other business
    terms.
Is there any option other than using Thesaurus file?
Also, if there is no other option, what is the best way to add entries in thesaurus file w/o impacting performance.
    Thanks,
    Garima

Using thesaurus seems only easy way here. You're right the file will get longer, please research on implications of this -

  • Segregate Services & Software to Improve Search

Applications that do nothing but provide browser type connection to remote servers are not Software and should be labled as such.  This would be a useful sort key, and would help promote developers who really are writing Software that is not monetized by the collection of user data.  Let us decide if we want to fund developers who produce legitimate, useful software for a fair price.  I want a sort key that removes all tracking/advertising services to help surface the real software for sale in the Mac Ap Store, but Critically in the IOS Ap Store where we are currently defenseless against these rogue aps.

  • How to improve ranking of a Flash Website

    Hello everyone,
I have create a website using Flash, php, and MySQL. The
website dynamicly loads the entire text and image in the Flash.
Now I wish to improve the website ranking in google search
engine. I undrestand that google search engine ranks the website
base on how many website has pointed in the the one that we are
intrested in its ranking. Do advertising the website improves its
ranking? After, google cannot read the text of my flash website. I
am just puzzled with the entire issue and was wondering if someone
can be kind enough to help me on this.
Thank you very much and have a great day.
    Khoramdin

Flash sites are a genuine challenge to spiders/robots because
they view flash as a graphic. In order to enjoy better rankings you
have to do some research about the criteria that are critical,
namely, page names, descriptions, inter/external links, and page
content. When any of these criteria is overlooked, your rankings
generally plummet. Although there are exceptions, you will have to
add accessible html content and minimize the amount of space that
Flash occupies on any given page, in order to improve positioning
among the major search engines. Subscribe to some of the
specialists in the biz to learn more, like

  • Dimension Search - Rel Rank Not Working

    I see for 6.4.0, 6.4.1, and 6.4.1.1 there is a known issue:
IFCORE-1637: A dimension search query with D=* produces results ordered
according to the default dimension value ranking, regardless of the value
of the Dk (Dimension Search Rank) parameter.  Relevance ranking works as
expected for other types of dimension search queries
Has anyone figured out an acceptable workaround that doesn't involve post-processing to re-sort?

Ah, I think I answered this in your other thread.  D=* isn't really a search (it's actually a special feature they added in a few releases ago) to list all dimension values.  My guess is that since it's not a search, the MDEX doesn't pass the results through relevancy ranking to re-order them.
Note also that D=* can be very very slow in a production environment.  Building out the dimension values + ancestors can be very slow.
Also, when you start working with D=* you'll notice that it can do some strange things.  For instance, if your hierarchy includes:
    Electronics->Cameras->Lens
.... then in the results you will see:
    - Electronics
    - Electronics->Cameras
    - Electronics->Cameras->Lens
So you'll probably want to do some post-processing + caching anyway because of that.

  • Iweb website not showing up at all on any search engine

    Hello,
I recently switched from Windows to a Mac (and its a big improvement, really pleased with it). As we run 2 tiny businesses, one of my first projects was to make 2 websites in iweb and publish them via ftp to the domains I purchased (both hosted by free virtual servers). When I type in the web address in the Safari browser bar, the websites display and work perfectly. However, for one website, when I google any of the keywords (i.e. santa, reindeer and horse-drawn sleigh hire), or the actual company name (Santa and Co), or the specific web address (www.santaandco.com), nothing comes up apart from the freevirtualservers awaiting content thing. When I click on this, it goes straight to the website, all working fine! I don't expect to be on the first page of google, and this question isn't about how to improve my ranking on search engines, but normally when you google a company name or specific website address it comes up somewhere with the actual site! To make sure, I made a site for a friend (www.djfatboy.co.uk) and the same thing applies - nothing comes up. When I search for www.djfatboy.co.uk it doesn't exist, although typing the address in the browser bar brings the site up working perfectly. I have got cyberduck but as the sites display fine I'm assuming its another problem.
The other website I made for our business (www.horsedrawnpromotions.com) has a different issue but I'd like to get the Santa and Co one sorted first! I don't know where I'm going wrong, and apologies if I have posted this in the wrong place but I haven't got a clue how to fix things, or even what this issue could relate to. Please help!! Thanks.

You need to let the search engines know that your site actually exists or they won't be able to index it. Go to Google and there should be somewhere to register your site. Once they know you are there they can start indexing it.
Also, you can download iWebSEO where you can add tags and page names etc. to help your site be found more easily in searches, but first make sure that the search engines know your site is there.

  • New forum version: better search, quick reply, new...

    Hi all,
I'm happy to let you know that we're now using the latest version of our forum software.
You've probably noticed that there's a few design updates and changes. We in the Discussions team would love to get your feedback on any changes - but please digest the design for a few days before you decide whether you like it or not
This new version enables a lot of new features that we will be rolling out in the next months, the most important being a mobile-optimized version. The target for that is in April.
The bad news is that we are having some small compatibility problems on some of the websites where this forum is available, and some of the features don't work properly on them. On some, everything works pretty much as intended. See below for details.
Here are some of the most important changes:
    1) Improved search:
The forum search is now giving you suggestions about threads that match your keywords. Try it out and see if you can now find things faster.
    2) Better visibility for RSS:
This is not really an update, as it's always been possible to create a RSS feed for any keyword - but now it's easier to subscribe as there's a RSS icon in the search results. This was one of my pet peeves in the previous versions and I'm happy to see this great little feature now getting the promotion it deserves.
    3) Quick reply:
You can now reply to a post directly from the thread view. Due to the problems we have on some Nokia sites, this is disabled by default - but you can turn it on for yourself from Edit my Info -> Preferences -> Display -> Turn on Quick reply (last item on the list).
Note that if you use this forum via the Nokia websites for Europe / UK / Australia or USA, using quick reply gives you an error message. But the post was still made and a page refresh will show it. If you click on "post" several times, you'll make duplicate posts.
Nokia sites in Asia (nokia-asia.com) / Ireland and MEA (mea.nokia.com) do not have this problem and quick reply works better there. You can use any of these sites to access this forum.
Also, giving kudos on those four problem sites gives an unnecessary error message. Just refresh the page and you'll see that the kudos was in fact given.
We're sorry about these errors and try to get them resolved soonest for all sites.
    4) Get an email when someone sends you a private message
This is pretty obvious. Too bad the email does not show the message content - or who sent it - so you'll have to login to the forum to read it, but at least you'll know you have a new PM.
    5) Personalization options
You can now customize how this forum looks and change your preferences such as how many posts appear per page and so on. I haven't tried all the combinations so I don't even know how much freedom there is, but just try it out for yourself.
There are a few acute issues that we are aware of, such as
    - the new green kudos button might be difficult to understand for new users
    - some fonts may be too small or to big
    - Google Chrome does not show the site correctly
    - using a phone to access the forum gives a messy design
and we are working on these issues with the forum software provider.
But I would love to hear your overall feedback and any ideas or complaints you may have!
    Best regards,
vandelay + the Nokia Discussions team
I wrote all my posts from 2005-2011 as an "Admin" for this community. I still work for Nokia as an external consultant, so my rank in all posts is now "Employee".

    Hi,
I am a new member of this forum as well and spent a lot of time looking for more information about the problems or improvements to my specific phones. I have been searching for a place to drop some suggestions but couldn't find any. Just like MartinMiller35 suggested a few posts before, it would be lot easier and faster when the mobile product sections would break down more in to sort by device and then into the existing sections of software/suites/ music/video`s/ maps/applications etc.
I also agree with fender77, it would make such a difference as people would describe the problem in addition to their device better. It might be helpful if any solution working fine for phone "X " could be placed into other sections where the people are having the same problems and crying out for a solution, not aware that in another post or maybe even in a different category there is already an answer for their phone "y".
To avoid more (misplaced) threads, posts I suggest there could be a "tips and tricks or how to" section per phone, like the "Top Questions for..". Maybe the moderators (or anybody else who has rights can copy same solution in the multiple sections.
For example I`ve had problems getting my maps working on my "old" phone, I`ve been searching on "N95 8GB maps" didn't`t get me any recent solution or didn't describe the problems or state (latest info re fw or compatibility). After again a different search I`ve found a working solution but under "Ovi and Mobile Media", "Maps, Navigation and GPS..
I saw a header that described "my problem" but it was a different phone, even from a different series, it was a solution for the Eseries (to be precise it`s the post E75 Maps updater error cannot get enough information about the phone..." ) so I started reading, not sure if I was wasting time. After a few pages I still wasn't`sure if it would also work on my phone. It would have been a lot easier and I would be more certain of a working solution if it had shown directly under the section for my phone. I know the solution is applicable for a lot other phone`s, just adding the solution into those phone`s section could reduce the number of misplaced or even frustrated posts.
I have been going through a lot of posts but hesitated to use or comment or answer simply just because I`m not sure if the (menu)settings or OS, fw etc. are same or compatible and I wouldn't want to misinform anybody, cause any damage and simply don`t have the time to investigate other devices specs further.
Again for example I read about problems with N97 mini or the N97 but again I don`t know if they apply to mine N97 as I`ve had a "newer" one where a lot of "the old" problems seem to be more or less resolved. Now after having 3 N97`s returned to the store in 3 weeks time!! I have a right to change to a different device so I`m searching again. It would make my search a lot easier if i could see all the problems and solutions for the N97, the N97 mini and N900 at their own section  (to have a better comparison in case I decide to change the device, new N97 is expected to arrive to store next Monday, until then I`m searching/comparing).
I`m also looking into nokia messaging and HTML solutions for my N95 8GB and future Nokia device (guess it will be another new, hopefully working flawlessly N97) maybe there is already an answer but I don`t know cause it is under the E72 or X6 solutions..
I`m sorry if this isn't the or my place to make suggestions or if I suggested something that has already been used in the past and wasn't working at all.
This forum has helped me better than the Nokia site or the Nokia Care and I hope it will keep helping us.
    Keep up the good work!!
Thanks for taking the time to read
