Improve windows application performance in c#
Actually my project logical function work is clustering documents means it's take number of documents grouping similar documents.in this i have logical methods for reding the data applying fuzzy clustering alogrithems.in this processing function is it's
take more time untill win Ui static then give the result.pls slove time complexity for this project
whenever i have perform the operations on win UI it's take more time responds to the win
form.it's take 15 -20 minutes after that give the result. i want improve the performance of
application in c#.
Hi
ramesh,
I think you can debug your code to test which line code take too long time.
In addition, Here are some tips about how to improve your performance of C# code. They will help you.

Does un-checking "Allow Debuging" in VI properties->execution improves overall application performance?
> Does un-checking "Allow Debuging" in VI properties->execution improves
> overall application performance?
Yes, though it is hard to predict by how much. When debugging is
enabled, after each node on the diagram there will be a small amount of
compiled code to test if the VI has a probe, a breakpoint, execution
hiliting, or the pause button is pressed. The code is quite small,
about two or three instructions, but if you have twenty nodes in a loop
and the nodes are doing simple math, these instructions could be 25%
overhead. For more complex nodes or datatypes, these instructions turn
into a fraction of a percent.
Turn it off and measure. If you have other performance problems, read
the documentation on the profiler and use it to help you find yo
ur
bottlenecks.

How to improve bsp application performance
hi ,
my bsp application performance is very bad , it takes 15 mins to open webpage , please tellDear sapVeeru,
are you sure that it is the BSP that is taking much time do show ?
Isn't it any Function Modules, Method, or other that is triggered everytime this BSP is launched ?
You see, maybe the performance is related with ABAP code (SELECTS, authorizations, etc...) but not with the BSP itself.
I strongly doubt that a BSP takes 15 minutes to render.
It has to be something else.
Have you made performance analysis ?
Traces ?
Where exactly is this application taking more time ?
Is it on a method call ?
On a function module ?
What type of BSP is this ?
Custom or Standard ?
Does this happen with all your BSPs, or just this one ?
Is this a MVC type BSP ?
Or a simple BSP ?
What does your BSP page contain inside ?
Too many includes ?
Please let me know so that I can better help you.
Kind Regards

Sharepoint Application Performance
Hi ,
we have 2 WEF and 2 App Servers in our SharePoint farm, but First time application loading is taking 45s to 60s .
Please let me know how I need to improve my Application Performance.
Following things I did for Improve my application performance ,but I never got success.
1. Warmup scripts
2. Shutdown distribute cache (we are not using social activities)
Thanks,

AmarHi Amar,
I understand you encountered the slow loading SharePoint site. I'd recommend an article for Common troubleshooting steps Performance issue \ Web Site slow:

Does native compiling improve application performance ?
Hi,
I've got familiar with Excelsior Native Compiler since a week ago. They claim on their website that compiling Java classes directly to native code (machine code) will improve the performance of the application. However, JAlbum (http://jalbum.net) says that its JAR files of the application run "basically at the same speed" compared to the native compiled one for windows.
Does really compiling Java classes to native code improve performance? I'm not talking about the startup speed, but the whole application performance.
Thanks...Youve really been spreading that article aroundthis
morning, George, lol.
It was actually a really good read this morning.
Thanks for posting it.I know! just realized that's about the 3rd or 4th
time I've posted it today. just a coincidence, thoughcan't promote that book enough though. Should be required reading (just like Effective Java). -
How to improve database and application performance
Hi,
Any body please help me out that how can we improve the database and Application performance.
Regards,
Bhatiabhatia wrote:
Hi,

Regards,
Bhatiathere is no simple answer. There is no DATABASE_FAST=TRUE initialization parameter. There are a myriad of reasons why an application is performing poorly. It could be that the application (code and data relationships) is poorly designed. It could be that individual SQL statements are poorly written. It could be that you don't have enough cpu/memory/disk bandwidth/network bandwidth.
You need to determine the root cause of poor performance and address it. If you application is poorly designed, you can tune the database until the cows come home and it won't make any difference. If you are trying to run 100k updates per second against a database hosted on hardware that only meets minimal requirements to install Oracle ... well, hopefully you get the picture.
First, go to tahiti.oracle.com. Drill down to your selected Oracle product and version. There you will find the complete doc library. Find the Performance Tuning Guide
Second, go to amazon.com and browse titles by Tom Kyte and Cary Milsap. I particularly recommend "Effective Oracle by Design" and "Optimizing Oracle Performance", though I see a lot of new titles that look promising (I think I'll be doing some buying!) -

But you cannot seriously expect someone on this forum to spend his/her time and review such a long program. For this people are normally getting paid, you know. -
Good evening,
I have a Thinkpad W510 (4319-29G) running Windows 7 Pro 64bit. The system is loaded with the latest software and drives from Lenovo including BIOS 6NET74WW (1.34), upgrade was done Dec 7th (windows update performed Dec 15th).
The machine has
- 8Gb RAM
- nVidia Quadro FX880M, driver version is 8.17.12.5896, 7-9-2010 and video card BIOS is 70.16.5f.0.b
- dual harddrives,
- one Seagate Momentus XT 500Gb (ST95005620AS) FW rev SD23 in the main location with C: and some other partitions
- one Hitatchi 320 Gb (HTS723232L9SA60) FW rev FC4ZC50B in the bay.
- Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 AGN, driver version 13.3.0.24, 7-14-2010
- Intel 82577LM Gigabit Network Connection, driver version 11.5.10.1030, 7-22-2010
Recently I have experienced crashes of multiple windows components at resume from sleep and hibernate.
It seems to happen when swithing location (from work to home) and thus switching from docking station with wired network connection to no dock and wireless network connection (dont know if this has any bearing but anyway).
In the event viewer I typically have some 6-12 application errors logged. Sample output from event viewer is:
Log Name: Application
Source:Application Error
EventID:1000
Level:Error
Logged:2010-12-15 20:30:02
Task category100)
Keywords: Classic
Computer: xxxxxxx (my computername)
Then for each application the following detailed data is written in event viewer in the general tab:

It seems that a module "nview64.dll" is always the first application to crash. I suspect this has something with graphics to do.
I dont know if this event triggers the following crashes or if it is so that the display is initialized before the other programs.
After all crash diagnostic messages have been shown windows explorer restarts and also other applications restart but a lot of system tools in the system tray are gone so a cold start is needed to restore all tools again.
I really would appreciate any help and suggestions how to fix this really annoying issue.
Thanks, AntonI had a similar issue, as soon as a described even a little bit of it to warrenty support they sent someone to swap the board
It seems thats the only fix, its been fine since -
DO's & DONT's for a better application performance
I am very new to tuning. What are the sql & pl/sql do's and dont's and best sql & pl/sql practices for a better application performance?
I was told by somebody to check explain plan for tuning db & sql statements. But i am bit confused by seeing the explain and don't know from where i have start and what i have take into consideration from explain plan to improve application preformance?
Can somebody help me in this regard?> I am very new to tuning.
Good. Not having to tune means that the code is performing as it should.
And this is THE MOST IMPORTANT CONSIDERATION.
Do not write and design code that needs to be tuned and twisted and modded in order to perform. Write and design code with the core requirements of that code being:
- performance
- scalability
- flexibility
- maintainability
Good design = good code = good performance
No amount of tuning can turn bad code and a bad design into a well performing and scalable system. Which is why I dislike the concept of "tuning code". Start with a good and solid design. In other words, tune that before the code.
> What are the sql & pl/sql do's and dont's and best sql & pl/sql practices
for a better application performance?
The 1st basic rule is actually quite simple.
The "data layer" rule: Maximize SQL. Minimize PL/SQL.
Do not do in PL/SQL what SQL is very capable of doing. Fact. No other language is faster and better than SQL at crunching data in the Oracle RDBMS.
The 2nd basic rule is a logical extension of the 1st.
The "application layer" rule. Maximize PL/SQL. Minimize Java/C++/C#/Delphi/VB/etc.
Do not do in a 3rd party language what PL/SQL is extremely capable of doing. Fact. No 3rd party language is as capable as crunching data in the Oracle RDBMS as PL/SQL.
Stick to these two fundamental rules and your Oracle application will have a solid foundation for being a well performing and very scalable solution. -
LSMW with CI on System i and an additional Windows Application Server 4.70
Hi together,
I have a really tricky problem to realize a parallel processing LSMW Workload.
In truth it isn't a problem to the parallel processing. It is a problem, how to declare the paths to the input files.
The LSMW is splittet in four steps:
1. Read data
2. Convert Data
3. Creating Batch Input File (IDOCS)
4. Start Direct Input Program
The first three points are using file in the IFS.
In the 13 points of LSMW there is point " 7 Specify Files" where I can customize paths to the real existing input and output-Files, which are stored at the IFS on System i.
For example:
Legacy Data On the R/3 server (application server)
Materialtexte /usr/sap/direct/lsmw/material/matsta_text.txt
This works fine.
Now we have added a Windows Applications Server in front of the 2-Tier enviroment to have more performance to the BTC workprocesses. Now we have two servers shown in sm51. One is the central instance (CI) and the other is the application server (AS), which is working together with the CI.
<b>Now the big bug:</b> In the LSMW transaction, you can submit the job to batch (BTC) and can't choose the server (Instance) where the batchjob should run. So, sometimes the batchjob runs on the CI (iSeries) and sometimes the batchjob runs on the application server.
But this is the problem, because the files in the IFS are only stored at IFS on iSeries. And if the Job runs at the application-server, the files is not found, and the job end abnormal.
Now I tried to find a good solution. So I want to declare a patch in LSMW, that the batchjob is running successful at CI and AS.
So I tried:
\iSeriesshareusrsapdirectlsmwmaterialmatsta_text.txt
But this is not really working, because the SAP WP can't find this file with this path.
There is a second possibility: Not to submit the batchjobs by pressing F9 in the transaction LSMW but making an extra job in sm36 for each job. Not very smart !
There is a third possibility: To duplicate the import Files to each Windows Application Server. Then it is possible to submit by pressing F9, whatever server will be used.
So my question is: What is the right way? There must be some poeple in the world who have done a migration with iSeries an Windows Application Server together? Or not?
best regards,
Carsten

Carsten Schulz>
\iSeriesshareusrsap/direct/lsmw/material/matsta_text.txt
Windows doesn't understand forward slashes, you need to use backslashes all way:
Try the following on one of the application servers:
Start - execute
notepad \iSeriesshareusrsapdirectlsmwmaterialmatsta_text.txt
If you can open the file, that's the way to go.
You'd need to check in your program, whether the job is been executed on Windows or non-windows and substitute the slashes accordingly.

Improving TableRowSorter Filter Performance
Hi, I currently have a TableModel with over 17300 rows of data, which has a TableRowSorter attached to provide sorting and filtering on the JTable. Everything works fine except that filtering the table takes to long, even on a Wndow Vista machine with an Intel Core 2 Duo (3.6ghz processor)
Is there any known way to improve the filtering performance on TableRowSorter? It should be noted however, that Sorting with the same data does not take as long (at times). It is also much slower when all the necessary bells and whistles or rendering are included.
Here is an example piece of code:
import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
import java.util.*;
import javax.swing.*;
import javax.swing.event.*;
import javax.swing.table.*;
public class Trial extends JFrame {
public JTable table;
public DefaultTableModel model;
public TableRowSorter sorter;
public JTextField filterField;
public Trial() {
super("Filter Test");
setDefaultCloseOperation(EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
Vector<String> cols = new Vector<String>();
cols.addElement("Column 1");
cols.addElement("Column 2");
cols.addElement("Column 3");
cols.addElement("Column 4");
cols.addElement("Column 5");
cols.addElement("Column 6");
Vector<Vector<Object>> rows = new Vector<Vector<Object>>();
for(int i = 0; i < 20000; i++) {
Vector<Object> row = new Vector<Object>();
row.addElement("Column 1 Data " + (i+1) );
row.addElement("Some Data " + (i+1) );
row.addElement("Column 3 Data " + (i+1) );
row.addElement("Even More Data " + (i+1) );
row.addElement("Column 5 Data " + (i+1) );
row.addElement("Please No More Data " + (i+1) );
rows.addElement( row );
model = new DefaultTableModel(rows, cols);
table = new JTable( model );
table.setRowSorter( new TableRowSorter(model) );
JScrollPane scr = new JScrollPane(table);
filterField = new JTextField(20);
filterField.addCaretListener( new CaretListener() {
public void caretUpdate(CaretEvent e) {
if(table.getRowSorter() == null) return;
setCursor( Cursor.getPredefinedCursor(Cursor.WAIT_CURSOR) );
String text = filterField.getText();
((DefaultRowSorter)table.getRowSorter()).setRowFilter(RowFilter.regexFilter(".*" + text + ".*"));
setCursor( Cursor.getDefaultCursor() );
JPanel filterPanel = new JPanel( new FlowLayout(FlowLayout.LEFT) );
filterPanel.add( new JLabel("Filter: ") );
filterPanel.add( filterField );
getContentPane().add( filterPanel, BorderLayout.NORTH );
getContentPane().add( scr, BorderLayout.CENTER);
pack();
setLocationRelativeTo(null);
try {
setExtendedState(MAXIMIZED_BOTH);
} catch(Exception e) {}
setVisible(true);
public static void main(String[] args) {
new Trial();
}Any ideas as to how performance (or percieved performance) can be improved would gladly be apprieciated.
ICEI came to the conclusion that trying to improve the sort performance of TableRowSorter was almost an impossibilty. So I changed my approach from improvement of the actual sorting code to user perception of the process. And Hello, IndicatorRowSorter. This code will display a small window with the String "Searching" and an icon to indicate progress whiles filtering the table and disposes it onces filtering is complete.
import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
import javax.swing.*;
import javax.swing.event.*;
import javax.swing.border.*;
import javax.swing.table.*;
* Provides valuable user feedback for the table filtering operation.
Executes the sorting algorithm on a different thread so as not to block the EDT
public class IndicatorRowSorter extends TableRowSorter {
JTable table;
JWindow sortProgressWin;
public IndicatorRowSorter() {
createSortProgressWindow();
public IndicatorRowSorter(JTable table) {
super( table.getModel() );
this.table = table;
createSortProgressWindow();
public void createSortProgressWindow() {
JLabel progressIndicator = new JLabel("Searching...",
new ImageIcon("resources/images/loadArrow.gif"), JLabel.LEFT );
progressIndicator.setBackground(Color.white);
progressIndicator.setOpaque(true);
progressIndicator.setBorder( BorderFactory.createEmptyBorder(2,2,2,2) );
sortProgressWin = new JWindow();
sortProgressWin.getContentPane().add(progressIndicator);
sortProgressWin.pack();
sortProgressWin.setLocationRelativeTo(table);
public void sort() {
sortProgressWin.setVisible(true);
Thread t = new Thread( new Runnable() {
public void run() {
try {
IndicatorRowSorter.super.sort();
sortProgressWin.setVisible(false);
} catch(Exception e) {}
t.start();
}I got the idea from looking at some of the example from JDNC Incubator project down at java.net. Atleast with this solution, the crappy performance still remains, but the user percieves this as serious data manipulation.
To get yourself a nice load progress icon, go down over to www.ajaxload.info. You can then replace the reference to the image used in the code above.
To use it, just a single line of code is required.
table.setRowSorter( new IndicatorRowSorter(table) );You can test this out with the Trial example posted above.

"Compatible with windows applications"
Yesterday I got an email AppleStore eNews which said
You already have a perfectly healthy PC, not to mention lots of important Microsoft Office files. But you also know all about Apple's innovative design and ease-of-use features. And perhaps you've heard of all the incredible things you can do with photos, movies and music by using Apple's iLife '05 creativity suite. So what do you do? Check out the compact, affordable Mac mini. It's compatible with Windows applications and even works with your existing monitor, USB keyboard and mouse. Best of all, it comes preinstalled with iLife '05 and Mac OS X v10.4 'Tiger', the world's most advanced operating system.
What do they mean by
It's compatible with Windows applications
If anyone can cast some light on this I'd be grateful.
StuartJohn,
I have 1GB of RAM on my Mac MIni 1.4Ghz. I don't have any problems whatsoever running VPC with Windows XP Pro.
As for needing 2GB of RAM, your salesman is misleading you. In VPC you cannot allocate any more than 512MB of RAM for running Windows.
I've used this version of VPC on my brother's Mac G5 Dual 2.0Ghz with 1GB RAM. On both his G5 and my Mac Mini you cannot allocate more than 512MB RAM to VPC.
Also, on both machines, VPC runs as a 686 processor running at 663Mhz. I had previously believed that the speed at which VPC ran was determined by the processor and allocated memory of the host Macintosh. This is completely false. Even so, compared to the legacy AMD Athlon-powered Windows laptop that I had previously been using, VPC on the Mac Mini offers surprisingly similar performance.
Moreover, in my experience of using VPC on both my brother's G5 and my Mac Mini, somehow, my perception is that VPC is more 'fluid' in operation on my Mac Mini. Therefore, I don't think you will have any issues in running VPC on your intended PowerBook purchase.
One last point, Virtual PC is much better in its performance than when I ran SoftWindows on my previous Macintosh 8200. -

Improve the animation performance (only re-draw the partial background)
i had an application involving animation. the whole animation is done without any external image files used. all the background and objects are hard coded drawn.
double buffering technique is used and the 1st code template is as follow:
paint
draw_background_image
draw_foreground_moving_object_at_latest_location
update
draw_background_image
draw_foreground_moving_object_at_latest_location
A thread calls repaint(int x, int y, int width, int height) where x, y, width and height is the rectangle region form by the object new location and the object old location. however, i stil found my application performance not too good :(
i was wondering whether i can have the performance of application improved with the following 2nd code template? (i havent implemented it yet since i do not know which API for me to achieve certain tasks)
paint
draw_background_image
draw_foreground_moving_image_at_latest_location
update
draw_PORTION_OF_background_image_that_covered_by_previous_moving_object
draw_foreground_moving_image_at_latest_location
in that case,
1. is the 2nd correct way to do animation compared with the 1st way?
2. if so, do i need to store portion_of_background_image_that_covered_by_previous_moving_object, the x and y location of the covered background image......? what API should i use in order for me to do so?
thank you very much!
