In FM tables And Changing r bu default Pass by value or ref

hi friends ,
In Function Module Tables And Changing are by default Pass by value or reference.
with regards.

hi all,
i got the answer from abap in 21 days (page No 591),
changing parameters are passed by value and result.
internal tables are pass by reference.

  • Subroutine parameters ..by default pass by value or pass by ref

    Hi,
    <u><b>The Parameter Interface</b></u>
    The USING and CHANGING additions in the FORM statement define the formal parameters of a subroutine. The sequence of the additions is fixed. Each addition can be followed by a list of any number of formal parameters. When you call a subroutine, you must fill all formal parameters with the values from the actual parameters. At the end of the subroutine, the formal parameters are passed back to the corresponding actual parameters.
    Within a subroutine, formal parameters behave like dynamic local data. You can use them in the same way as normal local data objects that you would declare with the DATA statement. They mask global data objects with the same name. The value of the parameters at the start of the subroutine is the value passed from the corresponding actual parameter.
    Subroutines can have the following formal parameters:
    <u><b>Parameters Passed by Reference</b></u>
    You list these parameters after USING or CHANGING without the VALUE addition:
    FORM <subr> USING ... <pi> [TYPE <t>|LIKE <f>] ...
    CHANGING ... <pi> [TYPE <t>|LIKE <f>] ...
    The formal parameter occupies no memory of its own. During a subroutine call, only the address of the actual parameter is transferred to the formal parameter. The subroutine works with the field from the calling program. If the value of the formal parameter changes, the contents of the actual parameter in the calling program also change.
    For calling by reference, USING and CHANGING are equivalent. For documentation purposes, you should use USING for input parameters which are not changed in the subroutine, and CHANGING for output parameters which are changed in the subroutine.
    To avoid the value of an actual parameter being changed automatically, you must pass it by value.
    <u><b>Input Parameters That Pass Values</b></u>
    You list these parameters after USING with the VALUE addition:
    FORM <subr> USING ... VALUE(<pi>) [TYPE <t>|LIKE <f>] ...
    The formal parameter occupies its own memory space. When you call the subroutine, the value of the actual parameter is passed to the formal parameter. If the value of the formal parameter changes, this has no effect on the actual parameter.
    <u><b>Output Parameters That Pass Values</b></u>
    You list these parameters after CHANGING with the VALUE addition:
    FORM <subr> CHANGING ... VALUE(<pi>) [TYPE <t>|LIKE <f>] ...
    The formal parameter occupies its own memory space. When you call the subroutine, the value of the actual parameter is passed to the formal parameter. If the subroutine concludes successfully, that is, when the ENDFORM statement occurs, or when the subroutine is terminated through a CHECK or EXIT statement, the current value of the formal parameter is copied into the actual parameter.
    If the subroutine terminates prematurely due to an error message, no value is passed. It only makes sense to terminate a subroutine through an error message in the PAI processing of a screen, that is, in a PAI module, in the AT SELECTION-SCREEN event, or after an interactive list event.
    <u><b>Specifying the Type of Formal Parameters</b></u>
    Formal parameters can have any valid ABAP data type. You can specify the type of a formal parameter, either generically or fully, using the TYPE or LIKE addition. If you specify a generic type, the type of the formal parameter is either partially specified or not specified at all. Any attributes that are not specified are inherited from the corresponding actual parameter when the subroutine is called. If you specify the type fully, all of the technical attributes of the formal parameter are defined with the subroutine definition.
    The following remarks about specifying the types of parameters also apply to the parameters of other procedures (function modules and methods). If you have specified the type of the formal parameters, the system checks that the
    corresponding actual parameters are compatible when the subroutine is called. For internal subroutines, the system checks this in the syntax check. For external subroutines, the check cannot occur until runtime. By specifying the type, you ensure that a subroutine always works with the correct data type. Generic formal parameters allow a large degree of freedom when you call subroutines, since you can pass data of any type. This restricts accordingly the options for processing data in the subroutine, since the operations must be valid for all data types. For example, assigning one data object to another may not even be possible for all data types. If you specify the types of subroutine parameters, you can perform a much wider range of operations, since only the data appropriate to those operations can be passed in the call. If you want to process structured data objects component by component in a subroutine, you must specify the type of the parameter.

  • Application inside an application and using URL parameter to pass variable  values

    hello
    My requirement is to create a design studio dashboard that will have 2 applications and I should be able to pass variable values from application 1 to application 2. All this should happen in 1 dashboard application.  I have tried using open document functionality
    Application1.openNewWindow(URL link to application 2) . It doesn't meet my requirement as I am required to login to the other application in a new window.
    Is it possible to add 2 applications in one dashboard.
    thanks,
    Bhat

    Hi Bhat,
    I don't know if it is possible to open it in the same Page. But you can try using the Opendoc Parameter which allows you to enable you to pass the credentials you have used in the current Dashboard.

  • Spry Table and Changing Style

    I want to change the style in a detailregion depending on content. Therefore I need a way to determine which row in the spry table is active. Somehow like this:
    if(talent.rowNumber == 0) {
         document.getElementById('bioTall').style.color = '#660099';
         else if(talent.rowNumber == 1) {
         document.getElementById('bioTall').style.color = '#559944';
         else if(talent.rowNumber == 2) {
         document.getElementById('bioTall').style.color = '#449922';
         else if(talent.rowNumber == 3) {
         document.getElementById('bioTall').style.color = '#228844';
         else {
         document.getElementById('bioTall').style.color = '#000000';
    I know that rowNumber is not what I am looking for. What can I use?

    Thanks Gramps,
    This one's the ticket. I had to change "onDataChanged" to "onCurrentRowChanged" and add the script to call the scroll function.
    Here is what it looks like now:
    var bioObserver = new Object;
    bioObserver.onCurrentRowChanged = function(dataSet, data) {
              var rowNumber = 1 + talent.getCurrentRowNumber(0);
    if(rowNumber == 1) {
              alert("Current row number is " + rowNumber);
              document.getElementById('bioTall').style.height='360px';
              document.getElementById('bioTall').style.color = "#220088"; }
    if(rowNumber == 2) {
              alert("Current row number is " + rowNumber);
              document.getElementById('bioTall').style.height='630px';
              document.getElementById('bioTall').style.color = "#109966"; }
    if(rowNumber == 3) {
              alert("Current row number is " + rowNumber);
              document.getElementById('bioTall').style.height='315px';
              document.getElementById('bioTall').style.color = "#991166"; }
    if(rowNumber == 4) {
              alert("Current row number is " + rowNumber);
              document.getElementById('bioTall').style.height='1350px';
              document.getElementById('bioTall').style.color = "#559911"; }
              var howhigh = document.getElementById('bioTall').style.height;
              alert('bioTall = ' + howhigh);
              $("#bioContainer").bioScrollbar("vertical",300,"easeOutCirc",1.05,"auto","yes","yes",2);
    }; talent.addObserver(bioObserver);
    I will remove the alerts and color of course. Here is the result: http://www.peermann.com/CCAI/artists/artists.html

  • Here's how to do ALV (OO) with dynamic fcat, int table and editable data

    Hi everybody
    Here's a more useful approach to ALV grid with OO using dynamic table, data NOT from DDIC, dynamic FCAT and how to get changed lines from the grid when ENTER key is pressed.
    It's really not too dificult but I think this is more useful than the ever present SFLIGHT methods from the demos.
    This also defines a subclass of cl_gui_alv_grid so you can access the protected attributes / methods of that class.
    You don't need to add the class via SE24 -- done fron this ABAP.
    When you run it click Edit for the first time.
    After editing data press ENTER and the break point should bring you into the relevant method.
    Code developed on NW2004S trial version but also works on rel 6.40 on a "Real" system.
    The code should work without any changes on any system >=6.40.
    All you need to do is to create a blank screen 100 via SE51  with a custom container on it called CCONTAINER1.
    The rest of the code can just be uploaded into your system using the SE38 upload facility.
    When running the program click on the EDIT button to enable the edit functionality of the grid.
    Change your data and when you press ENTER you should get the break-point where you can see the original table and changed rows.
    This program is actually quite general as it covers Dynamic tables, building a dynamic fcat where your table fields are NOT in the DDIC, intercepting the ENTER key via using an event, and accessing the protected attributes of the cl_gui_alv_grid by defining a subclass of this class in the abap.
    I've seen various questions relating to all these functions but none in my view ever answers the questions in a simple manner. I hope this simple program will answer all these and show how using OO ALV is actually quite easy and people shouldn't be scared of using OO.
    Have fun and award points if useful.
    Cheers
    Jimbo.

    Hi there
    IE7 doesn't give me the add new page option and I get 404 error when trying to access the "How to contribute" section.
    I'll load up Firefox later (this browser usually works when IE7 doesn't always work properly).

  • Changing User's default URL in Portal Server

    Would appreciate if somebody can tell how to change the user's default URL. This is the URL to which user is forwarded to after authentication is over. By default this is the DesktopServlet. I have tried changing it in the Users profile, but it doesn't seem to work. Seems to get overridden by something
    else. We are doing Ldap auth. Is there a properties file or something that has the info about forwarding? My guess is the Ldap authenticator is forwarding it to DesktopServlet without looking up the user's profile
    setting.
    We want to send it to our Servlet before redirecting it to the Desktopservlet.
    Any pointers would be helpful.
    thanks
    shekar

    Did you try at the domain level?
    By logging into admin console, then click Manage Domains -> Select the Domain -> User -> Show Advanced Options and change User's Default URL.

  • Difference between Using and Changing

    hi,
    while defining subroutines, what is the exact difference between Using and Changing?
    when we pass by reference we can use both and while passing using value we can use both + Value (VAR).
    Then what is the exact difference between two?
    Also, what is formal parameter?q

    Hi C`hinmay,
    When a subroutine is called with "USING" you can make use of the value inside your subroutine but you cannot change the value. With CHANGING you can CHANGE the value too. Formal parameter is the PARAMETER NAME used while defining the interface of a Subroutine.

  • Import and export parameters of an FM are passed by value---why?

    Q]      By default the import and export parameters of an FM are passed by value---what is  the advantage of this system?

    Hi,
    Import and export parameters are, by default, passed by value. However, they can also be passed by reference. Tables parameters can only be passed by reference.
    Pass by reference means, passing the address itself rather than passing the value.
    I guess passing by value is easier and advantageous

  • Default Header DFF value in Line DFF.

    Hi,
    I am using EBS 12.1.1 and would like to default header DFF value at line level DFF.
    Please guide.
    Regards,

    Hi,
    Not for Price unit in RFx but we had a similar requirement in Master Agreements wherein we needed to default the ECC Integration fields within predetermined values. We had achieved this via scripting.
    For you purpose, you can use the following:
    Scripting Context: Document Lifecycle Event
    External ID:SAPINT_LineitemValidate
    Class: Rfx Line Item(783)
    Script: import com.frictionless.sap.integration.event.RfxLineItemEventHandler
    Herein you can specify the Pricing Unit = "1000";
    Hope this is of help to you.

  • Toplink changes table and columns to uppercase

    I found a way to make toplink not to change table and columns to upercase with setShouldForceFieldNamesToUpperCase=false setting (which should be false be default but so some reason isn't.)
    However, when toplink is used with JSF how can setShouldForceFieldNamesToUpperCase be set to false? Is there a way to do it in persistence.xml or perhaps there is a better way altogether? (I know i can use @Table and @Column but that is a lot of redundant code if all the fields in java have exact match in DB and i am looking for a cleaner solution.)
    My setup is a follows
    toplink v2-b49
    mysql 5.0 (with 5.0.5 driver)
    servlet/jsp 2.5/2.1
    jsf 1.2
    tomcat 6.0.13
    Thanks

    Thanks Doug
    I Created that class with
         public void customize(Session session) throws Exception {
              session.getDatasourceLogin().getPlatform().setShouldForceFieldNamesToUpperCase(false);
    But that doesn't help. Then I checked if it is being set correcly and saw that it is false even before I set it, so the default works as advertised and the var is false.
    So i guess this is not the problem. Any idea what can cause it?
    here is the class

    setters...
    here is the code
    Query q = em.createQuery("SELECT u FROM User u WHERE u.Name = :name AND u.Password = :password");
    here is the error

  • Interactively changing values to table problem: indicator and control table, and why it does not work after a while...?

    I have been producing a VI that loads a set of data and displays it in a table: A table control is initialised with an empty variable, the loaded data takes the place of the variable and fills the table, while some headers are added. That table feeds an intensity graph to give a pictorial impression of the data.
    With this scheme, a user can change any value of the table, and the changes are interactively reflected on the graph.
    Problem: after few saving of the VI, the access to the table doesn't work anymore. It is the same with all my numerical controls in the VI where it should be possible to enter a value.
    If anybody has an idea on the potential
    causes of these problem, I would be really grateful as it is very useful...when it works !
    Regards,
    Elie Allouis

    I can not image what is causing the error. Would you be willing to post some code to see if we can reproduce the problem?

  • How do I change font and colors back to default?

    I have changed the font and color of the text through the tools button and the options button and the content tab. I find nothing telling me how to change the font and colors back to default font and colors. Can you advise me? I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium OS. Thanks.

    Hi Brenda19605,
    You can use this article to set the fonts and colors: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/change-fonts-and-colors-websites-use?esab=a&s=font&r=0&as=s
    The default settings for the font are in this article:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Some%20text%20shows%20up%20bold%20after%20upgrade
    Unfortunately for the default colors has no good reference. But for text it is black (most lower left) color, background is white (most upper left color). Unvisited links is blue (column 8, row 5) and visited link is purple (column 9, row 5).
    Let me know if you need anymore help!
