In IE, hitting the 'F4' button would cause a 'dropdown' menu of recent web sites in the address bar; what is the Firefox equivalent of this?

Hitting 'F4' in IE would display recently visited web sites under the address bar. This made it easy to use the keyboard (rather than the mouse); once the list web sites appeared, you could use the cursor buttons to move to the site you wanted, and hit enter. I can't find a similar feature in Firefox; instead, I have to mouse up to the Awesome Bar, click the little down arrow, and choose.

  • How do I get to the Firefox equivalent of IE's "check for newer versions of stored pages" under tools, IE options

I need the firefox equivalent of Internet Explorer's (v8) "check for newer versions of stored pages under Tools, Internet Options, Browsing history. I cannot find where this would be in firefox and have an application that depends on seeing a "fresh" copy of a page each time it's served up by the web. Please advise.

  • I hit the firefox button and nothing happens. Since you don't have a repair function, can I save the bookmarks before I reinstall the program?

    see above

    Hi,
    Sorry you are having problems.
A clean reinstall will not remove bookmarks unless you take options to remove data or deliberately remove your profile.
You may and it could be prudent to back up your Firefox profile before doing the reinstall. At least look for and backup the data base file places.sqlite . Try Firefox's safe mode; for instance by holding shift key when you click the icon, before considering reinstalling.

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found [[Troubleshoot and diagnose Firefox problems#w_5-reinstall-firefox|here]].

  • How do i save pointeers to opened web sites when closing down to reboot, sometimes a dialogue box asks this , sometimes it warns that to continue will loose the settings thanks?

simple question: when closing ff by clicking on the X upper rh corner sometimes diialogue box warns 'you are about to close tabs'.
other times it asks 'do you wish to save tabs'. Why is this? how do i save tabs when closing browser in order to reboot etc

Do you organise your email into separate folders, or do you just let it accumulate in the Inbox?
I would strongly advise you not to let it sit in the Inbox.
When you see this happening, try right-click on the affected folder, select '''Properties''' then '''Repair Folder'''.
Large folders (actually, a folder in Thunderbird is stored as a file, so it is sensitive to file size limits set by the underlying file system) can be problematic. This is one reason not to let messages collect in one folder. I use Thunderbird's Archive folders so that accumulated mails over several years can happily coexist because they are effectively stored in many small folders. No single mail store folder then exceeds the 2GB or 4GB sizes that have been known to stress the OS. I appreciate that current builds of Thunderbird and a modern 64-bit OS should be able to cope, but practically I find it slows down when given huge files, so I err towards a pragmatic solution; a large number of not very big files.
Archives are searchable, and a Saved Search folder can give you a virtual composite folder allowing access to the entire Archive.

  • How do I defeat or whitelist the "Firefox has blocked this site from loading another web page" function?

Often when I click a link within a web page, a message bar appears at the top of the page saying "Firefox has blocked this site from loading another page" or something similar. This happens frequently on banking or credit card sites. This is particularly annoying because it seems to disturb the operation of the link when I have to click the "Allow" box on the message bar. I would prefer to create a whitelist for this feature so it would not interrupt my banking operations. Failing that, I would like to know how to toggle the feature on and off. Failing that, I would like to know how to defeat the function.

    See:
*Firefox > Options/Preferences > Advanced > General : Accessibility : [ ] "Warn me when web sites try to redirect or reload the page"
The setting in "Options > Advanced > General" is meant as an accessibility feature, as you can see by the label of that section, so that people with disabilities or people who use screen readers do not get confused and is not meant as a safety protection to stop redirecting.

  • When I access Yahoo E-Mail through Firefox, the mail window is unreadable and stuffed to the left side of the Firefox window. This just began. When I access the mail through IE, it comes up just fine.

Everything about Firefox is fine until I click on Yahoo! and go to my email. Then, the "Inbox" window is tiny and unreadable.

Are you opening Yahoo mail from a bookmark?
Opening in the Sidebar is the default action for bookmarks that are created via a "Bookmark this Page" link or button on a website. Make sure you use the many "Bookmark this Page" methods that are in Firefox instead.
Right-click that bookmark and select '''Properties''', then un-check the preference for '''Load this bookmark in the sidebar''', and then click Save.

  • Ince updating my firefox browser whenever i click on an internet link in an email it does not open on firefox although my mac switches to the firefox window as this is my default browser- what to do? Previously this has always worked without a hitch...

ince updating my firefox browser whenever i click on an internet link in an email it does not open on firefox athough my mac switches to the firefox window as i have this set to be my default browser- what should i do?

I have the same problem, and I also wondered if Google toolbar has anything to do with it. There GMAIL was set as the default mail application at first. I have removed that setting, but Firefox 4.0.1 continues to use GMAIL instead of Outlook which is my selection for mailto handling.

  • The web site of Adobe does not show correctly in FireFox

I have a bizarre problem.  The site of Adobe (including where I can download the flash player) does not show correctly in FireFox and I only see it as a text HTML page, but without most images (typically, for instance, I do not see the image "Download now" but see a text line "Dowload now", and so on...
This seems to specifically affect the Adobe web site as I have no problme for other web sites (so far).
It is something specific to FireFox as  I do have the problem with Internet Explorer.
The problem persis even if I restart FireFox without any add-on (safe mode).
    Any suggestion ?

Does this only happen in Firefox?  What do you see with Internet Explorer or Chrome?  If it is only Firefox, I'd try these steps in this order:
    1. Clear your cookies and cache
    2. Reset your Firefox settings
    3. Make a new profile

  • What would cause mouse to scroll slowly on Web pages but normally on text documents?

I have an odd problem. I have a Logitech M305 mouse on another machine that is scrolling too slow on Web pages. I ordered a new mouse but today I noticed the old mouse scrolls normally on text documents, even if the text document is displayed in Firefox (such as the "about:config" page).
Normally, a page will scroll 3 lines for every click of the mouse scroll wheel.
On Web pages this changes and it takes 3 clicks of the mouse wheel to get the page to scroll.
It is unsettling to move the mouse wheel and have nothing happen until the third click.
So the question is, what would make the mouse scroll wheel behave differently on Web pages and text pages, and how can I fix it?
BTW, this is a clean install of Windows 7 64-bit. I am using the exact same type of install right now on another machine with a Logitech M510 mouse and it scrolls normally on all pages.

I also had this problem in both Firefox and IE. I solved it by disabling the Logitech SetPoint extension. To solve the problem in IE, go to Manage add-ons and disable the Logitech SetPoint extension. It was already disabled in Chrome (Chrome didn't like the extension to begin with), so it wasn't necessary to manually disable it there.

  • I'm trying to look at iTunes and whenever I hit the app it says this feature is no longer supported... What do I do?

Wanting to buy music, but can't because it keeps saying that it's not supported!

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
-Go to Settings>iTunes and App Store and sign out and sign back in
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • I have a Vin, iMac 20 inch early 2008 . Can anyone tell me the now equivalent of this model? We had a housefire and I need to replace it new for old. I have a serial no. but cant find out which one would be the same model to replace it now.

I am trying to find out how to find the specs because the machine is my daughters and it is no longer useable but if I know where I can find its details from the serial no I can get it replaced new for old on the house insurance. Where can I find these details?

I lost equipment due to lightening strike several years ago, which also had old equipment and was not available. I gave insurance images and provided original receipts (my purchases were made on Apple.com), and Apple provided electronic copies of the receipts. You may want to contact Apple and check, if they can provide a copy. Insurance may depreciate the original value. I was offered residual value which i used to buy newer replacements, and provided the receipts for replacements back to insurance.

  • What is the Firefox equivalent of IE8/Tools/Internet Options/trusted sites/sites?

My new VPN requires I select its server as a "trusted site". I can do this easily on Internet Explorer, but I don't see how to do this on Firefox.

I'm not sure you have to. The reason I say that is you probably allow Java applets and JavaScript for all sites already. Therefore, your VPN probably will work. Maybe you might need to make an exception to pop-up blocking. You can do that here:
Tools > Options > Content, first Exceptions button on the right
    Give it a try?
