In Tomcat Server Shutdown Problem

I am using tomcat 5.5.12 version. But whenever I am trying to shutdown the tomcat server I am getting this error message. Please help me to over come this problem.
INFO: Failed Shutdown of Apache Portable Runtime

What does Jakarta support say about this? (By the way, maybe it fails shutdown because it's not running.)

    If you want to access the Tomcat root, then you need to let eclipse take over the full control of Tomcat. Doubleclick the Tomcat instance in the Servers dialogue, under the 'Server Locations' choose 'Use Tomcat installation' instead of the default 'Use workspace metadata'.

  • Tomcat server problems

    Hi everyone,
    Maybe not the correct forum, but I'm sure people here know a lot about Tomcat server.
    Problems is, that Tomcat startes ok, the service is running. If I browser to the URL of the server I get in the IE status bar 'Contacted website, waiting for reply...' and this just stays like that. Eventualy when the browser times-out I get the IE error page.
    Everything was working ok for weeks, until I rebooted the machine.
    Any ideas??
    Thanks!

    hi
    what is the URL you typed in the browser?
    usually you shoud write
    http://localhost:8080 (if 8080 is the port you chose.)

    Download tomcat 4.x or 5.x
    set the following variables from dos prompt
    set JAVA_HOME = path to your java sdk folder
    set CATALINA_HOME = path to tomcat folder
    set startTomcat = %CATALINA_HOME%\bin\startup
    set stopTomcat =%CATALINA_HOME%\bin\shutdown
    now at dos prompt
    type %startTomcat% , it should opena nother window which displays the status of tomcat server.
    In the browser type http://localhost:8080/ (for tomcat 4.x) or http://localhost:8084 (for tomcat5.x) it should open up the index page of the server.

  • Problem in installation tomcat server 4.1

    Hi everybody,
    I am not sure if i have entered the correct forum for highlighting problems of Tomcat server 4.1, but anyway I need an answer.
    My system is running on win 98.
    I downloaded the zip version from apache.org and created the java_home and catalina_home path in the autoexec.bat.
    When I am running the startup.bat file, it gives me some output in one window like :
         using catalina_base=d:\apache\tomcat
         using catalina_home=d:\apache\tomcat
         using catalina_tmpdir=d:\apache\tomcat\temp
         using java_home=c:\jdk1.2
    The name of this window is Finished-startup.
    After running this bat another window gets fired, with the heading as java, and this window vanishes immediately. I need some ideas as to what should be done.
    Just to remind, I have jdk1.2 on my system. Do I have to upgrade to jdk 1.4. Does Tomcat 4.1 need the latest version of jdk.
    Thanks n regards,
    Sajiv, Chennai, India.

    hi,
    set java_home to java_home=c:\jdk1.2\ .I had this problem with windows XP, the window loads and vanishes. the '\' has set my problem. you can try.

    Can't fix a problem 'till an actual problem is identified.
    >> ODBC Driver Manager ... Data source name not found
    That appears to be ODBC drivers looking for a DSN (Data Set Name). If it wants a DSN, the DSN has to be specified in the code, and the DSN has to be configured in the windows host ODBC applet. So that is at least two squirrels to get in the right tree before moving forward. A ...host:...[port:]SID|service name are some of the bits needed in a jdbc connect string, and that is in no way related to DSNs. A Whole Different Animal. If it wants a DSN that might be what needs to go in the URL bit.
    And ODBC setups can be confusing, especially if an x64 OS is in the mix- if that is the case there are two different ODBC configuration applets, one for x64 the other for x86, and if one gets as far as talking to an actual database it might toss an architecture error. Only way to fix that "problem" is *delete* the ODBC DSN and then run the correct (maybe the x86) ODBC config utility, and set up the DSN. Again.

  • Problem with Tomcat server

    Hi,
    I'm just writing to inform you about a problem with the Oracle 9i database I found out.
    I have downloaded and installed the release 2 enterprise/standard/personal edition for Windows NT/2000/XP.
    After doing that I could not start my Tomcat server any more. Although I have tested the situation with many different releases of the Apache Tomcat server it did not work.
    Then I've deleted the Oracle database and just installed the client release. And now it works!
    I'd be grateful if one of you could tell me what's the problem and how I can solve it.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Problem uploading file from mobile device to tomcat server

    Hi guys, here's how it goes.
    I'm designing a site using JSP for wireless devices like PDAs, Smartphones etc, basically any mobile device that has browser capabilities. There's a page where the user is allowed to upload a file from the mobile device, which works perfectly fine when I access the site using a PC. But when I try to upload a file from a mobile device, ( I tried using a Nokia 6680 ) , there wasn't any error but the file just wasn't stored in my server.
    Here's how the upload form looks like :
    <FORM name="filesForm" action="ProcessFileUpload.jsp" method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data">
            <font size="1" face="arial">File :</font><br>
    <input type="file" name="file1" size="10" style="font-size: 9px;"/><br><br>
            <input type="submit" name="Submit" value="Upload Files" style="font-size: 9px;"/>
        </FORM>Here's the gist of ProcessFileUpload.jsp:
    <%
         System.out.println("");
            System.out.println("Content Type ="+request.getContentType());
            DiskFileUpload fu = new DiskFileUpload();
            // If file size exceeds, a FileUploadException will be thrown
            fu.setSizeMax(1000000);
            List fileItems = fu.parseRequest(request);
            Iterator itr = fileItems.iterator();
            while(itr.hasNext()) {
              FileItem fi = (FileItem)itr.next();
              //Check if not form field so as to only handle the file inputs
              //else condition handles the submit button input
              if(!fi.isFormField()) {
                System.out.println("NAME: "+fi.getName());
                System.out.println("SIZE: "+fi.getSize());
                System.out.println(fi.getOutputStream().toString());
               // File fNew= new File(application.getRealPath("/"), fi.getName());
             File tempFileRef  = new File(fi.getName());
             File fNew = new File(filepath.toString(),tempFileRef.getName());
         String MM_Overall_DRIVER = "org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver";
         String MM_Overall_USERNAME = "****";
         String MM_Overall_PASSWORD = "*********";
         String MM_Overall_STRING = "jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/";
         Driver DriverRecordset1 = (Driver)Class.forName(MM_Overall_DRIVER).newInstance();
         Connection ConnRecordset1 = DriverManager.getConnection(MM_Overall_STRING,MM_Overall_USERNAME,MM_Overall_PASSWORD);
         PreparedStatement StatementRecordset1 = ConnRecordset1.prepareStatement("use " + domain);
         ResultSet Recordset1 = StatementRecordset1.executeQuery();
         filepath.append("/").append(tempFileRef.getName());
         StringBuffer fp = new StringBuffer("insert into ");
         fp.append(domain).append(".filepaths (path) values ('").append(filepath).append("')");
         PreparedStatement ps = ConnRecordset1.prepareStatement(fp.toString());
         ps.executeUpdate();
                System.out.println(fNew.getAbsolutePath());
                fi.write(fNew);
              else {
                System.out.println("Field ="+fi.getFieldName());
            }Basically I store the file uploaded in the tomcat server and the path of the file is saved in a table in MySQL.
    When I upload a file using a PC, the tomcat console displays the content type file name yada yada yada. However, when I upload a file from the Nokia 6680, I get just the content type then things just stop there and nothing else happens. No file name no file size whatsoever. The path of the file is not inserted into MySQL and the file is not stored in the server.
    Can anyone please enlighten me on this issue and hopefully gimme a solution to this problem? Your help will be greatly appreciated.

  • Problem in configuring Apache Tomcat Server

    Hi, I am facing problem in configuring Apache Tomcat server. I have downloaded its version 4.1.18 from the Internet. After unzipping and installing it, I have enabled the Root Context, enabled the Invoker Servlet, haven't changed the port to 80 from default 8080, have turned on the Servlet Reloading, have set the Java_Home variable in autoexec.bat, and have changed the DOS memory setting to 4096.
    Also, the concerned lines in my autoexec.bat file look like this:
    path c:\windows;c:\windows\command;c:\jdk1.2;c:\jsdk2.0;
    c:\JavaWebServer2.0;c:\jakarta-tomcat-4.1.18
    set java_home=c:\jdk1.2
    set tomcat_home-c:\jakarta-tomcat-4.1.18
    set classpath=.;c:\ServDevel;.;c:\jakarta-tomcat-4.1.18\common\lib\servlet.jar;.;c:\jsdk2.0\lib\servlet.jar;.;
    Still, after having done all this, when I start the server using startup.bat (which happens without any problems) and type in http://localhost:8080/ on the browser to test the server, nothing happens. It doesn't show me the Tomcat Welcome screen. I get an error page saying "This page is not available". Why? Where am I going wrong?
    Sushant

    1) Try http://127.0.0.1:8080
    2) set tomcat_home-c:\jakarta-tomcat-4.1.18
    Is the minus-sign after tomcat_home also in the autoexec.bat?
    Replace it with an equals-sign
    3) When you run startup.bat, is a new command window opened and are the following three lines displayed at the end? It should stay open, otherwise something is wrong (unless running as a service).

    Thanks. Lax.

    Tomcat is telling you there is no context configured to be available from "/". Normally, this would be the default tomcat ROOT webapplication but you somehow managed to remove it (this is not a problem really, in a production environment you don't want it). If you want a context to be available on '/', you need to mount one there. So either install a webapp in the webapps/ROOT folder, or set one manually to '/' in the server.xml file. Check the tomcat docs on how to do this. Here is an example:
    <Host name="localhost">
            <Context path="/" docBase="/usr/local/mywebapp" privileged="true" debug="0">
               <Resources className="org.apache.naming.resources.FileDirContext" allowLinking="true" docBase="" />
              </Context>
    </Host>
    Good luck!

    Hi,
    You may get this error, if the server is no longer running. If you try to shutdown the tomcat server and it is not running, the script(shutdown.sh) won't able to connect to the shutdown port and you will get this error. Check the server like this..http://localhost:port
    Hope that helps.

  • Problem when mounting tomcat server for upgrading ACS

    Hi:
    I've downloaded the Appliance Management package for 4.1.1.23 version. Once I extract all archives I execute the autorun.bat file. The problem is that the tomcat server doesn't work properly, continuously appears a message error:
    INFO: WebServer not ready or not fully initialized -- testing again...
    Which can be the problem?,
    Many Thanks

    Upgrading the Cisco Secure ACS Solution Engine typically involves the following three steps:
    1. Obtain the upgrade package from Cisco Systems and load it onto a distribution server in your network. This can be done either by employing an upgrade CD or downloading the upgrade package from Cisco.com.
    2. Load the upgrade image onto the Cisco Secure ACS Solution Engine from the distribution server on your network. You can do this either from within the HTML interface, or from the serial console. The Cisco Secure ACS Solution Engine verifies the files transferred to ensure that they have not been corrupted. For more information on performing this step from the HTML interface, see the below URL:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/secursw/ps5338/products_user_guide_book09186a0080204be1.html
    3. Finally, apply the Cisco Secure ACS Solution Engine system upgrade. You can do this either from within the HTML interface, or from the serial console. For more information, see:

    There is no guideline I know of as this depends on the app itself.
    What you should do is to deploy the application onto a test server and check the metrics of the app over a defined period of time with a defined amount of traffic.

    are you running tomcat as standalone?
    do you have apache/tomcat combo with JK connector?
    if so, apache is on 8080 and tomcat should be on something else!
