Include word file to AIF

Hi all,
I've the following requirement. The end user can upload a ms-word file. Now I've to put the content of the word file in a reserved space in a adobe form.
My question is: is this possible?
Best regards,
John

There is no functionality in Adobe forms to be able to dynamically embed word within it.  You would have to extract the text content out of the word document first, within Web Dynpro. You should search the forums on that topic as it has been discussed before (very recently in fact).  The summary - it isn't going to be easy to do.  If you use the legacy binary word format (DOC) it really isn't possible to read the content within Web Dynpro.  If you are using the DOCX (XML based format in Word 2007 and higher), then the file content is XML. This is a little easier to read because you can at least get the XML content in ABAP. However then you still have to parse the XML and remove the formatting - no small task. You could rquire the word document is saved in some text only format, but this will require a manual step on the users part before they even upload the document to Web Dynpro ABAP.

  • Smart quotes in Word file convert to boxes in InDesign CC

    I recently upgraded to InDesign CC. Before that, I was using InDesign 2.0 (very old). I place my Word files (which are saved in Word 2003 version) in text boxes in InDesign. When my text file is placed in InDesign CC, my apostrophes, hyphens and quotation marks turn into rectangular boxes. The same thing happens in InDesign CS4. But when I do the same procedure in InDesign 2.0, I have no problems or surprises.
    Is there a setting I need to look at in InDesign CC? If so, where do I go?

    The same style sheet is being transferred from the Word file. And I didn't get any error or notification of any font issues when the text is flowed into the InDesign pages. I checked the font style and it said Arial all over the place. I assume everything is still in Arial, including the boxes where the apostrophes and hyphens should be. Like I mentioned earlier, I have no problem with InDesign 2.0.
    I'm perform a "Find/Replace" to correct the problem, but it's a pain. Because this is for a newspaper, it's hard to catch all of the boxes in such small prints.

  • Help needed in using POI for manipulating Word files

    Hi ,
    I am new to POI. I have to take multiple files as input and write them to an output word file using POI.The input files may be word files, jpg or or any other image files and excel sheets also.
    Is this possible using POI?Is there any example source code available?
    I had another concern .I have downloaded the poi-bin-2.5.1-final-20040804 jar.
    This does not contain any api for hwpf.Where can i find hwpf api?

    HWPF is not included in the standard jar that you will download from the Apache Organisations site. Instead, you need to visit what they tern the scratchpad area - from where the developers grab source to work on - and download HWPF from there. You will have to compile it yourself as well I believe. There is some good news however, I cannot remember the address of the site but I did find a web page with links to pre-built jar's of this area, just have a search with google.
    From my own experiences, I would also reccommend that you look to using JExcel to manipulate Excel worksheets. It does not have the same sort of support for evaluating formulae as HSSF does but it does other things better IMO; little things like exposing the formatting applied to the cell.

  • Opening MS WORD files in Appleworks

    I never bought MS Word during the 30 day trial. Now it looks like I'll be getting a bunch of Word documents sent to me in the near future.
    I read somewhere here that Word files can be opened in Appleworks. I've had no success with it so far. Could someone please tell me how to do that?
    Or, If I do have to buy MS Word For Mac, is there a cheap way to do it? Like an old version or something other that the $250+ they're asking for the new one?
    Imac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   1.25 GHz 512GB RAM 80GB HD with 120 GB XTNL.

    You certainly don't need to buy Office. There are several options available.
    TextEdit that is included with OS X can open most Word files.
    One of the free Office clones - NeoOffice or Open Office for any Office file. Also, AbiWord, but only for Word files.
    icWord from Panergy Software - not free but the trial is fully functional. icWord also has the ability to save as AppleWorks. There is also icExcel. These are approximately $20 (US) each or $30 for both.
    Pages, part of iWork, can open Word files.

  • Cannot Save Word files as a PDF in Office 2013 with Office customization tool

    Hello
    I'm deploying office 2013 as a part of a post clone task.  Using the customization tool I created an msp with the full installation (without outlook,Link, or skydrive) I noticed that I cannot save or export files as PDF files.  If I do a manual
    install (without MSP) I can save files as pdf.  I can't find anywhere in the customization tool that allows me to choose different "save as" file types. In office 2010 I used to be able to save word files as PDF files.  Any ideas would
    be greatly appreciated.
    Charles

    Hi,
    In regarding the issue, could you give me more information? Did you test to install the Office 2013 by using MSP and manual installation in the same computer? Did the other Office suits can not save files as pdf?
    Let's do some test to narrow down the issue:
    If you use the only one computer to test, please export a new MSP file include all the suits and use the all the default setting. Then we follow the
    link to deploy again.
    If the issue still exists, please try to change a computer, and update Adobe programs to install the new MSP file to test.
    If you get some error message when you save as pdf through Word, please upload, I'll do more deeply research.

  • Many topics linked to Word files in RoboHelp 10

    Is RoboHelp 10 robust enough to cope with a large project that has the majority of its topics linked to their own individual Word file?

    Apologies. Perhaps some background information may help.
    My company produces a suite of software products and the online Help (created in RoboHelp) covers all of these, including the installation instructions. Therefore, the RoboHelp project is a very large one, containing hundreds of topics.
    We have just upgraded to RoboHelp 10 (RH10) from RH9 and I am starting the project from scratch. Because the project information is originally created in Word, and by a number of sources, I am investigating the possibility of linking nearly all of the topics to these Word files to make it easier and quicker to create and update the project. I was wondering if having a lot of these links may possibly lead to instability in the program (as we experienced with RH9), in which case I would import the content from the Word files into RH10 instead.

  • Missing images in RH8 with linked Word files

    RH8 HTML and MS Word 2007
    The images from linked Word documents are not showing up in my RH8 project.
    Here's how the project is set up:
    The RH project is in its standard location: C drive, in a subfolder underneath My RoboHelp Projects.
    All content is included through the Link > Word Document option in RH.
    MS Word source files are in a network location (because several other writers are maintaining the source content). There are about 20 MS Word source files.
    I have an "Images" folder set up on the network at the same level as the source files, and we link the graphics into the MS Word files from there.
    Through my forum research, I have found several suggestions that have have made RH recognize the images in my linked files (previously, we were simply inserting the images into the Word source files, so in RH, the image was ignored and there was simply a blank line with no graphic indicator at all). So I am now selecting Insert > Picture > Link to File as the method for building images into the MS Word source file. I have also found the suggestion to ensure that the images are retained in the document, by selecting Office Button > Prepare > Edit Links to Files, and then checking the option for "Save picture in document" for each of the linked pictures.
    When I follow those methods, I now see a red-bordered box where the images should be, and the image file name is displayed in the box. However, I get an error message that says the image files used in each of the project htm files are "outside of the current project and will not be shown in Project Manager."
    I cannot figure out where to place the images so that RH's Project Manager recognizes them as part of the project. RH does not automatically create an Images folder within Project Manager. I've tried creating one myself and placing images there (and then even linking my source files to the images within the project folder). But still no dice.
    I have tried a volume of troubleshooting options--placing the linked source files and graphics within the project folder, leaving the source files on the network and placing copies in the project subfolders that RH creates after I link the source files into the project, etc etc etc. I've looked for a setting in RH that allows me to set a default location for images (never found one).
    Ergo, lots of troubleshooting, and still only half a solution here.
    I'd greatly appreciate it if anyone can shed some light. I am doing my best to avoid importing the graphics directly through RH because I want the online help to pick up the exact structure & content of the source files. This obviously negates the option for importing the Word content vs linking it in. In older versions of RH, I was at least accustomed to RH importing generically named images into the project regardless of whether they were copied directly into the Word file, but I see that this is not even an option when linking the source files into the project.
    Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
    Best regards,
    Athena

    Hi Peter,
    Thank you for the recommendations. I want to be sure I’m understanding “embedded” the correct way. Do you mean to insert the images directly into the file—i.e., selecting the MS Word option Insert Picture > Insert? Or do you mean to insert them by selecting Insert Picture > Link to File?
    Also, could you let me know where in Windows Explorer I should attempt to trace the images? The image source files are stored with the content source files on my company network, in a separate sub-directory for Images (I have tested the build with all the files on my local drive as well). When I link the Word source files into RH and generate the topics, RH does not bring any images into the project folder within the My RoboHelp Projects directory on my local drive.
    I have searched through all the project files/directories that RH creates (top-level project folder, as well as subfolders it creates for each Word linked file), and there are no image files (except for one that I placed in my RH master page). I have attached a screenshot of the project folder (MainProjectFolder.png) and one of the linked file sub-folders (LogBookProjectFolder.png).
    The problem seems to be that RH is not recognizing an image as an image. RH knows there are supposed to be images in the htm topics because it does have the red box “placeholder” where the images should be, and the image names are displayed in the red boxes (see attached RH_Project.png screenshot). I have gone into the properties for an image and used the Image Name field to manually map to the directory that contains the source image. When I do that, the image then appears in the top-level project folder with the gold & green RH image icon, and it does then appear in the topic. But at that point, if I update the linked Word file, I lose the image again. I have set the topics with images to where they retain the RH image modifications I’ve done, but then the topic shows as broken in my TOC when I update the linked Word file, and those topics do not appear in the build at all when I generate the WebHelp.
    Since RH also does not automatically create any kind of Images folder in the project during the process of linking and generating the source files, I have tried copy/pasting the source images into the top-level RH project folder prior to even linking/generating htm topics from the Word source files. But when I go to a topic and view the properties associated with the image placeholder, RH still does not display any of the image files I pasted into the project folder.
    I am happy to provide my source file so that you can investigate this further. Please let me know if you need the file with the images inserted directly or if you need it with them linked in (in which case, I’ll send the image files too).
    Thanks,
    Athena

  • How to attach a word file in JAVA mail? Please help

    I am a JAVA rookie and I have problem attaching a word file using javamail. I searched almost all the forum but still couldn't find the solution.
    Sorry for the reposting. But can anybody please help me out? Your any words or links will be highly appreciated!
    Lakobe

    If you want to include an attachment with your message, you need to build up the parts, quite literally, because the name of the applicable interface is Part. The content of your Message will consist of multiple parts within a Multipart object. Part one of the message is a BodyPart that contains the message content. Part two of the message is a BodyPart that contains the attachment. The attachment itself is specified as a DataSource. You don't have to actually read the attachment.
    You start in the same way as you do for a message without an attachment. Create the message from the session and initialize the headers:
    Message message = new MimeMessage(session);
    message.setFrom(new InternetAddress(from));
    message.addRecipient(Message.RecipientType.TO,
    new InternetAddress(to));
    message.setSubject("JDC Attachment");
    However here you need to create the Multipart object:
    Multipart multipart = new MimeMultipart();
    For part one, create a BodyPart and set the text to be a message. Then, add the BodyPart to the Multipart you just created.
    BodyPart messageBodyPart = new MimeBodyPart();
    messageBodyPart.setText("Here's the file");
    multipart.addBodyPart(messageBodyPart);
    For part two, you need to create a BodyPart again, but this time you need to create a DataSource for the file.
    messageBodyPart = new MimeBodyPart();
    DataSource source = new FileDataSource(filename);
    Use a DataHandler object to attach the data source to the message. Simply create a DataHandler for the source and attach it to the message:
    messageBodyPart.setDataHandler(
    new DataHandler(source));
    Remember to set the filename of the attachment. This permits the recipient to know the name (and type) of the received file.
    messageBodyPart.setFileName(filename);
    Attach part two in the same way as part one:
    multipart.addBodyPart(messageBodyPart);
    And as a final step before sending, attach the Multipart to the Message:
    message.setContent(multipart);

  • Hyperlinks to external word files convert to pdf

    Hello!
    I have many Word documents (version 2007), which are linked among themselves through hyperlinks.
    Now, I want to convert these documents in pdf files (Adobe Acrobat Prof. 7.0).
    The problem of the pdf files are the hyperlinks: They still link to the word documents and not to the pdf files.
    Now, my answer is: which is the best (and fast!!!) way to solve this problem?
    Thanks for any answer!
    Janina

    Hopefully someone will chime in with a link to a script or plugin for you. ;-)  I don't know of any way to do mass edits of links in Acrobat. You might try asking around the Word support forums for some sort of VBscript that can include underlying hyperlink destinations in Find/Change or something. I wouldn't be surprised if one exists already.
    Maybe this free doo-dad could help, couldn't tell from the web page:
    http://www.ablebits.com/word-hyperlink-manager-addins/index.php
    Otherwise, the fastest way I know of to do this manually in Word is to:
    1) Save the Word file as a web page
    2) Open the .htm file in a text editor
    3) Use that editors' Find/Change to change all refs to .doc with .pdf
    4) Open the edited .htm's in Word and save as a .doc
    There are many text editors that can do batch find/changes on hundreds of files at a time; so all you'd need would be to figure out an automated way to do the .doc > .htm conversions en masse, and back again.

    Hello,
    I am using crystal report XI with ACCESS 2003, I would like to create a field in my ACCESS table to insert the path of the PDF or word files I would like to view when I click on the report. Is there a way to do this? Whic is the best approach to view a PDF or Word document from the crytal report viewer?

    Just so I get the first part correct - this is what I understand you to want to do:Add column to Access db, say something like 'FILE_LINK'Have a field on your report that displays the value of the FILE_LINK data for either PDF or DOC's. To do this:Populate the Access db as you'd like, including the file extension.Add the database field to the report.Right-click the field and 'Format Field'.Select the 'A File' radio button.Select the Hyperlink tab.Select the 'X-2' button in the 'Hyperlink Information' area of that same tabbed window.Enter a formula for what you want to be shown.  To show 'somefilename.pdf' on a shared drive, for example, enter this formula:"
    x\" & {database.column}Click the 'X-2' icon with the green checkmark, near the top-left of the window.  Fix any errors reported.Click 'Save & Close' and then 'Ok' on the 'Format Editor' window.Drop/drag the field where you'd like it and you should be good to go.

    hi all ,
    i've got a ms word file , which has a lot of emails included , there are duplicates of these emails , i want to remove these duplicates ,
    so i thought of inserting these emails in a table i create with oracle forms builder , then select distinct emails from the table .
    the problem is , i do not know the way to insert these emails in my table , sure i will not do it (one by one) , because they are a lot .
    - if you could provide me with the way ?
    thanks

    Hi,
    When I come across such situations i sometimes do this way, If its a one time job copy and paste in excel and filter there to get unique records.
    After that create insert statements from the excel records and run this as a script.

  • Importing images in Word file

    Hi, after importing a Word doc into RH7 most images are
    correctly displaying in their topics but some just show a
    placeholder and filename of a .png image. This means presumably
    that png images are not supported by the Word conversion routine. I
    have imported .pngs successfully in the past in other projects. Is
    there a pre-conversion step I can do in Word to images to make sure
    they are treated properly by RH.
    thanks,
    mike

    Next time you have trouble importing a legacy Word .doc, try
    this:
    In Word, create a new file using the New command and the
    default .dot.
    Insert the contents of the legacy .doc from the menu command
    (not by cutting and pasting).
    In Word 7, they moved the "insert file" command to Insert
    > Object > Text from File . . .
    I'd think "insert text from file" would mean pasting
    something that doesn't include graphics. However, Word will bring
    in everything from the legacy .doc including formatting and styles.
    Save As . . . the new document as .doc or .docx. I don't
    think RH 7 cares. In our experience, jpegs and gifs sometimes were
    missing until we created the new Word file.
    Another wrinkle: In Explorer view, with a folder open, File
    > New allows you to create an empty Word document right there.
    We had some trouble using one of these for importing and saving the
    legacy .doc.
    Didn't have time to track it down. Was the legacy .doc
    created in Word 2003, and the conversion to .docx in 2007 glitched
    some images? In your case, it just happened to the .png files? As
    you previously speculated, images may have been handled differently
    in creating the original .doc.
    My hypothesis here is, whatever the reason for images getting
    lost in the import to Word, everything gets fixed -- even for pngs
    -- when you start with a clean slate in a new Word document created
    from the New menu in Word.

    thanks more

    If you take a look at the WebUtil page, there is a demo which can be downloaded. Look carefully at the option to upload to DB. If you want to manipulate the doc you can use OLE. This is also offered as part of the example.

  • Reformatting Word Files to PDF

    I am changing over computers. On my old PC I only had Reader XI, but in Word files over the years (I am talking Word 2003 and 2007), under 'Save As', I was able to save to all kinds of formats, including PDF. I downloaded Reader XI on the new laptop but when I try the same procedure, the drop down list doesn't have PDF as an option. How can I rectify this?

    Thanks, Claudio. It seems I may barking up the wrong tree. I'll try

  • Create Excel/Word Files on UNIX ?

    Hello Everyone,
    What are my options (including products) for creating Excel/Word files on UNIX/Linux (no OLE) using ABAP ?
    Thank you

    I did some asking around outside the forum
    and I was told there were plenty of ways to create Excel, Word, PDF files etc. any where using various functions in ABAP.
    The reason I'm asking is that I recently wrote a project for generating .DOCX and .XLSX (OpenXML) files directly (without using MS Office or Open Office etc.) on a different platform
    and I was thinking of writing a similar Open Source project in ABAP as a pet project.
    The way you would use it is visually design the Excel or Word file in Office and sort of mail merge the data in 1 or 2 commands in ABAP.
    It works everywhere without Office and on any OS, and is literally 100x times faster then ACTIVEX/OLE.
    So ... does anyone actually have a definitive answer ??
    Thank you.
