I'm running 3.6.10 on a Vista box and for several days, Firefox has been attempting unsuccessfully to install an upgrade to 3.6.12. How can I get this update to either work or stop trying.

The next time it happens, I'll append the error message, and more details, but essentially after downloading something an alert box appears stating that Firefox cannot complete the update because it can't install the update. No reason given or actually even a name for the update.

You may need to purge your Bridge cache for the folder with Mark II raws in it using:
Bridge / Tools / Cache / Purge Cache For Folder current-folder-name
I can see Mark II files in Bridge 5.0.2 for CS6 after installing the ACR 8.8 update, but I didn't try viewing thumbnails in the folder before I had ACR 8.8 so there were no cached "cannot read this file" thumbnails..
If purging the cache and letting it rebuild doesn't work check to see what version of ACR Bridge has by using ridge / Edit / Camera Raw Preferences... (that's the Windows menu path). Here is what I see:

If none of your third-party apps are working, but the Apple built-in ones are ok, then try downloading any free app from the store (as that appears to reset something) and then re-try them - the free app can then be deleted. I want a wired connection for my xbox 360, so the guy at bestbuy said to buy a dlink EBR-2310 switch so i would still have a wireless connection for all the laptops, phone, etc in my house, and still get a wired connection for my xbox from the switch.

Unfortunately the advice you got was not correct. The issue is that the modem is only expecting a single device to be connected to it. By connecting a Ethernet switch directly to the modem, the modem will provide an IP address to the first device it "finds." That means all other devices will not gain access.
What you needed to connect to the modem was a router with a built-in Ethernet switch, like the AirPort Extreme or similar router.

Had same problem and solved it without having to reinstore any music or movies:
1. Delete old Library file
2. Go to the 'Previous iTunes Libraries' folder and copy one of the earlier files - note, they have a date extension, e.g. 'iTunes Library 2011-11-01'.
3. Paste this file in your iTuners folder and rename file by removing the date extension - 'iTunes Library'
You should have all your music and paylists in tact, unless it was a really old previous file.

Firefox 3.6.8 in Windows XP Home on a Toshiba netbook. How can I get the "readability" bookmarklet to work? It works just fine in Camino on an Apple mini desktop computer running OS X 10.4.11 (Tiger.) Readability uses javascript, which I do have turned on. The problem (of it not working) doesn't seem to have anything to do with the NoScript add-on either, as I tried allowing everything on the page and it still didn't work. By chance, I too have the readability bookmarklet installed (but I don't use it that much, to be honest), and it works ok for me. It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
