Include Word generated htm file

What is the best way to include a Word generated htm file in a JSP? I'd like to include the Word document dynamically but would also like to add other tables etc. to the same JSP. The problem is that the Word generated htm file has <html> start and end tags. It's a full blown html file unto itself. it also contains css and what appears to be custom tags.
I have looked into converting to XML and rtf to XML, poi, etc. but that doesn't seem to make this conversion any nicer or easier. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
D

Try reading in the file as a string and removing everything between
the <body></body> tags. Example:
<%
String s;
int i;
StringBuffer sb = new StringBuffer();
BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(
new FileReader("c:\\mywordfile.htm"));
// Read the file
while ((s = br.readLine()) != null)
sb.append(s + "\n");
// Remove text before <body> tag
i = sb.indexOf("<BODY>") + 6;
sb.delete(0,i);
// Remove text after </body> tag
i = sb.indexOf("</BODY>");
sb.delete(i, sb.length());
s = sb.toString();
%>
<html>
<head>
<title>File Read Test</title>
</head>
<body>
<%=s%>
</body>
</html>

  • Including dynamically generated jpg files in a report in PDF

    Hi all,
    hope I'm in the right forum.
    We have an issue with images we must include in a report, when the report output format is PDF.
    We are using these versions for Reports etc... :
    Report Builder 10.1.2.0.2
    ORACLE Server Release 10.1.0.4.2
    Oracle Procedure Builder 10.1.2.0.2
    Oracle ORACLE PL/SQL V10.1.0.4.2 - Production
    Oracle CORE    10.1.0.4.0    Production
    We need to include in a report a image (jpg or png) which is provided (and created dynamically) by NWA Quality Analyst.
    We use a BoilerPlate Field, and in the hyperlink property, we have something like  :
    http://myserver/XBAR_GRAPH.NWG?CachedFile=something,etc.><IMG SRC="http://myserver/XBAR_GRAPH.jpg?CachedFile=....
    Works fine when getting the report in HTML output format.
    But doesn't work when the report is in PDF output format. Seems to be a security constraint of PDF.
    Question 1 : Has anybody already faced a similar issue ? And solved it ?
    We tried to include a jpg file located anywhere on our server, it works fine, BUT in our case, the jpg file returned by NWA Quality Analyst is not stored anywhere (generated on the fly)
    Question 2 : is there a way, in PL-SQL (in beforereport trigger) to call the URL, get the file returned and save it somewhere ?  Or display it as a image ?
    Thanks for any idea and help effort.
    (French translation available on demand as my english is not so good ;-)

    Hi all,
    we found a solution for our issue :
    we generate the png file from the QA server using UTL_HHTP package, with a defined name.
    Then we get this image in our report,  in PDF format output.
    May this help...
    If you got question...

  • Why did my index.htm file generate blank? and other weirdness.

    Here's the story. Maybe someone can tell me where I made my mistake, or what happened. I'm numbering the steps for convenience in discussing this.
    1) I started a new project, a WebHelp project.
    2) I imported content in Word.
    3) I created an index, glossary, and TOC. I used wizards for some of this.
    4) I created a style sheet and applied it to all the topics.
    5) I added a skin from the gallery.
    6) I generated output.
    Then I sent that output to the UI developer on my project. He plugged it in to the web app, and it seemed to work fine. So then:
    7) I opened the project, edited the text, and removed glossary links (because I didn't like how they were working) individually.
    8) I generated a new TOC to match the changed topic structure (minor changes).
    9) I generated another output.
    I sent that output to the UI developer and he said it was blank. I opened index.htm and sure enough, it was indeed blank. In fact, it was Zero KB. I also noticed that four other files were blank: whfform.htm, whform.js, whskin_plist.htm, and whtbar.js.
    So then I decided to start over. I created a new project, imported just the html topic files from the old project, redid the index (in a  hasty and less thorough manner), decided to bail on the glossary for now, did a TOC and sent that to the developer.
    Now the Search pane is totally wonky, showing a list of characters and terms.
    So I am getting frustrated. The developer has tried monkeying around with stuff on his end, but it's not working. So he says, why don't you send me a build with everything?
    The problem is, I have two broken builds. The first one, which for whatever reason has the blank index.htm file (and other blank files), and the second one, which has no glossary, a messy index, and a screwed up search.
    I can't seem to find anyone else having this problem. :-/  Can someone help?
    Thanks so much,
    Tamarleigh

    I am having the exact same problem, and I think I've figured out what is happening here. There is an issue when mapping Word styles into RH. The person who setup our Word template included a sidehead with conditional text to hide instructor notes when printing participant training manuals. I removed the conditional text, and everything is working fine. You may want to double check to make sure you don't have conditional text in your Word docs. I've uploaded an image with the code below to show how the conditional text looked when the document was linked and generated.
    Check out the code below:
    <table cellspacing="0">
              <tr>
                        <td style="vertical-align: top; padding-left: 0px; padding-top: 0px;
                                   padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px;" height="800" width="114"><table

  • RoboHelp 10:Did Adobe change how RoboHelp 10 handles CSS stylesheets in the .htm files that are generated?

    I work on Java application that utilitzes the .chm and .jar file (which include the .htm files) to display our applications help documentation. We recently upgraded from RoboHelp 8 to RoboHelp 10. The .htm files that were generated with RoboHelp 8 display fine. However, the new .htm files generated by RoboHelp 10 seem to ignore the CSS stylesheets used. I compared one of the .htm files from RoboHelp 8 to the same .htm file in RoboHelp10. I did notice differences within the files. Can you tell me what the differences are, regarding the usage of CSS stylesheets, between RoboHelp 8 & RoboHelp 10?
    Thank you.

    You need to post a bug report to get Adobe's attention. This is a user to user forum. Please follow this link.

    Not sure but I believe it may be a bug in the Microsoft Help Compiler over which Adobe have no control. Microsoft last updated in 2004. Good luck!

  • How can i include Services and Bindung in a generated WSDL file?

    Hi,
    i what to use a generated wsdl file from an erp system, to build a web service client with WSDL2Java (org.apache.axis.wsdl.WSDL2Java).
    I noticed, that services an bindings are missing, also a policy is included.
    How can i include services and bindings in the wsdl and exclude the policy?
    Thanks!

    well, I assume you have SOAMANAGER.
    choose your service & "Apply Selection" (very useless button btw)
    select a binding in the dropdown box or create on if you do not have one yet
    Click button "Show WSDL options" (actually they do not really look like buttons in WD; call it yellow blot)
    Some extra config area is thrown onto your screen (without any sense for usability or design); Change the radio button for WSDL format from "WS policy" to "Standard"; make sure the first radio button group is on "True" for monolithic
    Now click the link (why is this a link and no blot?) called "Display selected bindings WSDL URL"
    an extra text field is again thrown onto your screen somwhere between the dropdown and the WSDL option config area containing an URL (get out your glasses if you don't see the sub-10pt-letters)
    hope it helps,

    Hi,
    searched your post for keywords "JDeveloper" "ADF" "JSF" but could not find them. So are you sure you are posting to the right forum?
    If you have an issue with MS WOrd and PDF then Microsoft and Adobe are the ones to call for help. Jasper Reports also is not owned by Oracle, which is another area you want to investigate

  • WebHelp generates successfully but .htm file not recognized as a Help Project file.

    RoboHelp HTML Version 7.
    Hi,
    I successfully generate the WebHelp but when I try to preview the output, I get the attached error. This also happens if I try to open the file directly from the generated project. The project is stored locally on my C drive.
    I've tried to find help online, but I think most problems with opening projects relate to the pre-generated files. My project opens as it should and I can work as normal, I only have a problem with opening the generated WebHelp.
    Any suggestions are much appreciated!
    Thanks in advance,
    Elaine

    Whoops, this is a case of user error - I should have tried the simple things before assuming something had gone drastically wrong when generating WebHelp I had my 'Open with' set to RoboHelp as default, so it couldn't open the htm file in the browser.
    Hope I didn't waste anyones time and maybe (trying to redeem myself) this might help some other befuddled user one day

  • Word 2013 generates .docx files that cannot be read on Word 2010

    Howdy,
    I received a MS Word document that was created on Word for Mac 2011.  I opened it, edited it and saved it in .docx format.  I have MS Word 2013 running on a humble PC.
    Now the Mac cannot read my file.  Also, PC's running Word 2010 cannot read the file.
    However, many different machines running Word 2013 can open the file, Google Docs can open the file, Word in the Cloud can open the file, open office can open the file and even Word 2003 with the compatibility pack can open and edit the file.
    Mac's give an error message that essentially says "xml format incorrect".  PCs simply say the file format is wrong.  No other details.  Various compatibility checks inside word say that everything is compatible with prior versions
    of Word with the exception of my equations which it says will be converted to .gifs if viewed in word 2003.
    Any idea what is going on?  Supposedly, Word 2007, 2010 and 2013 all use the same xml formats, so its a bit of a mystery why 2010 (and 2011 on the Mac) cannot open a standard format .xml file that was created by 2013.
    The file contains text, figures and equations.  Nothing else.  No macros, no VBA code.
    Thoughts or advice?

    Hi,
    What is the file's original extension? .doc?
    If you saved the file in .docx format by changing the extension directly, the issue may occur, please make sure you saved it by "Save as". Or we can rename the file from ".docx" to the original extension, check if the issue
    persists.
    If it's not your scenario above, we can also try to "repair" the file in Word 2010:
    Open Word 2010, Click File -> Open -> Browse to the file and use "Open and Repair" to open the file.
    If the suggestions above don't help, please provide the exact error message that you get in Word 2010 so that I can perform further research.

  • Missing Index topics, links and .htm files

    I hope someone can help with this, as I am very frustrated
    right now. I normally use RoboHelpX5, but have also tried this in
    RoboHelp7.
    If I generate a Winhelp2000 version of our help system,
    everything appears normal. All of the specified index keywords are
    there, all of the links are there, etc.
    But if I generate either HTML or WebHelp versions using the
    same source, as I'm supposed to be able to, for some reason:
    1. Index entries for certain topics disappear from the list.
    If I manually add the topic to the index again and save, then
    regenerate the help files, the topic is still missing from the
    index.
    2. The hyperlinks for the missing items in #1 above do not
    appear. The original text is there, but there is no hyperlink. If I
    try to add a hyperlink again, the topic appears in the list, but
    once I regenerate the help files, the link disappears again.
    3. The individual .htm file for the missing items in #1 above
    are not being generated.
    Is there some reason why these topics are being dropped from
    the html and webhelp versions of the help system? Is there some
    sort of topic formatting or setting I am missing? I have tried to
    compare working topics vs. missing topics, and cannot find anything
    different in my Word document formatting.
    I have tried creating a completely different help system,
    using clean documents with no RoboHelp formatting, and consistently
    have problems with the same topics. I even tried on another
    computer that had never had RoboHelp on it before. That didn't make
    any difference. The topics were still missing from the index, the
    hyperlinks to those topics were still missing, and the individual
    .htm files were not generated.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,
    I ran into the same problem today with some top level Index
    entries not showing up in WebHelp. I discovered how to fix it by
    comparing the entries that did show up with those that didn't. If
    an entry had a topic associated with it, it showed up; if it has a
    cross-reference, it doesn't.
    Double click an Index entry in the Index pane (or right click
    and choose Properties), then clear the Cross-reference checkbox.
    Repeat for each entry that has a cross-reference instead of a
    topic. There may be a global way to fix them all, but I haven't
    found it yet. Then recompile your help, Voila!
    Hope this helps....

  • RoboHelp HTML does not generate .chm file

    We have a large help system for F1 help with about 2,000 help
    topics in about 50 different Word .doc files. We had used RoboHelp
    for Word previously, but with the goal of generating a single .chm
    help file, we tried using RoboHelp HTML to change the Word .doc
    files to .htm files. RoboHelp HTML does this conversion and creates
    2,000 .htm files.
    When we try to generate the .chm file for the help system,
    RoboHelp for HTML does not respond and does not create the .chm
    file. Is RoboHelp HTML not capable of handling such a big help
    system? Are there any workarounds to generate the .chm file
    successfully?

    Peter, thanks for your input. Here's where we are. We opened
    RoboHelp HTML and converted the Word docs into .html files. Then we
    were able to generate the .chm file (it worked this time) using
    RoboHelp HTML. We have about 50 .gif images, and no external links.
    The actual number of HTML files with help topics is close to
    4,000 for this F1 field help in our application. Ideally, we would
    love to have a master project with sub-projects, but it doesn't
    appear as a practical alternative. The .hh file (for F1 field help)
    is generated from the application by the developer and given to us.
    In order to have a master project and slave projects, we
    would have to manually split that automatically-generated.hh file
    into individual .hh files, true? That means we would have to
    correlate which .html help topic file corresponds with which map id
    number, then chalk out how we want to divide the .html help topics
    into individual projects that correspond to their .hh files?
    This help system I inherited is 10 years old, and the
    resource time we would spend (if we chose to modularize this help
    system) would be gigantic in scope. If there is a simpler and
    efficient way to modularize our F1 help system, I would love to
    hear about it!

  • Some .htm file not displaying in Topic List, but displaying in RH11 folder

    Hi All,
    We are running a project using RH 11, team consist of 3 person (include me)
    But we have problem with many  .htm file from my 1st coworker, file not displaying in Topic List in my Robohelp and 2nd coworker.
    Although we already get the latest file again and again
    But .htm file displaying in all our RH11 folder.
    In my 1st coworker RH, all file displaying in Topic List also RH11 folder, but when file generated then
    Many files from 1st coworker, hyperlink is not working well (broken link / file not found)
    Does anyone have experience about this problem
    Thanks

    First of all, make sure you do not have the following files in source control: .cpd, .pss, .ldb.
    These files contain local information that can cause problems when in source control.
    Then try this:
    Everyone deletes the .cpd file.
    Everyone gets the latest files for the whole project from source control.
    Open the project.
    Does everything now display correctly?
    If yes, you need to make sure you delete the cpd file before opening the project each day, and also during the day if you know a co-worker has made changes that you need. This file is a database which includes a list of all the files Robohelp knows about. When other people are adding and removing files, this information no longer matches properly. I recommend doing a Get Latest in these situations as well, just to make sure Robohelp can find the correct information.
    If you are still not seeing the correct files repeat the above process, but at step 2, pick the options to Overwrite local files. I can't say where you will see these options - they may be two checkboxes in a dialog box when you select Get Latest - it will depend on your source control application.
    Hope this helps.

  • Help: External Links not coming properly in generated chm file

    Hi
    I am a new user of RoboHelp for Word/HTML. I am currently
    having Robohelp 6. But I have also used evaluation version of
    Robohelp 7.0. I am trying to convert .HLP files into .chm files.
    I would like to give an example for explaining things:
    Say I have two .HLP files say AHelp.hlp and BHelp.hlp. Now
    AHelp contains a link to some page (say VA_X.htm) in BHelp. And
    this link works correctly. When I generate CHM files from these HLP
    files, then though the link is correctly highlighted in AHelp. But
    it points to some incorrect page like BHelp.chm::/VA_X..htm.
    Whereas in BHelp.chm the name VA_X.htm has changed into say
    BHelp_Voltage_Amplifier_X.htm.
    So what can I do to correct this problem so that the links
    are generated correctly?
    Plz help!!
    Thanks
    Regards
    TheIlliterate

    Hi. Sorry for the slow response. We "gurus" (ha!) are
    employees like you and have to balance responding against our
    workload. We do try to answer what we can when we can.
    As to your specific problem, the way interhelp file links are
    handled between HLP and CHM files is different. I have to admit to
    not converting HLP files that had inter-help links so I may be off
    the mark here. That said, I suspect your course of action will be
    to go into each inter help file link and re-add it. You can do this
    by double clicking on the link, clicking on the "Remote Topic"
    option and selecting the CHM file to link to. You'll be asked to
    copy the CHM into the project directory and then you can select the
    correct topic.
    I'm happy for someone else to chip in here if there is an
    easier way.

  • Hyperlinks to XLS, DOC, and PDF files that are included in a .chm file work intermittently.

    SUMMARY
    Hyperlinks to XLS, DOC, and PDF files that are included in a
    .chm file (and the Baggage Files) only work intermittently. The
    only solution appears to be deleting the Temporary Internet Files.
    PROBLEM
    1. I place the XLS, DOC, or PDF file in the Windows
    sub-directory that corresponds to the RoboHelp project sub-folder
    where the topic in which I’ll place the hyperlink exists.
    2. I open the help project in RoboHelp HTML.
    3. I right-click on the project’s Baggage Files
    sub-folder that corresponds to the Windows sub-directory in which I
    placed the XLS, DOC, or PDF file (in step 1).
    4. I import the XLS, DOC, or PDF file.
    5. I open the topic in which I’m going to place the
    hyperlink in the WYSIWYG editor.
    6. I “drag and drop” the Baggage File into the
    topic (in the WYSIWYG editor) to create a link to it.
    7. I save the changes and then generate HTML (.chm) help.
    8. I open the .chm file and click the hyperlink. The XLS,
    DOC, or PDF file may or may not open.
    9. When the hyperlink works correctly, for DOC and XLS files,
    a “File Download – Security Warning” dialog box
    appears asking, “Do you want to open or save this
    file?”. The buttons that are available are
    “Open”, “Save”, and “Cancel”.
    These buttons work then as one would expect. (When the hyperlink
    works correctly for a PDF file, it simply opens the PDF file in a
    new window; there’s no prompt to save, open, or cancel.)
    10. When a hyperlink does NOT work, for DOC, XLS, and PDF
    files, no dialog box or other visual message is displayed. Instead,
    the sound that is associated with the “Exclamation”
    program event is played (the “Windows XP
    Exclamation.wav” file is the WinXP default).
    Other Notes:
    - The hyperlinks ALWAYS work when I view a topic using the
    “View Selected Item” function (Ctrl+W) in the RoboHelp
    HTML project.
    - Once a hyperlink stops working, it will not start working
    again until I delete all the Temporary Internet Files.
    - A hyperlink will stop working even if Internet Explorer
    (iexplore.exe) is closed the entire time.
    WORKAROUND
    Through trial and error, I have discovered that if a
    hyperlink stops working, I can get it to work again using the
    following steps:
    1. Leave the .chm file open.
    2. Open Internet Explorer.
    3. Click Tools>Internet Options….
    4. From the “Internet Options” dialog box, select
    the “General” tab.
    5. Under the “Temporary Internet Files” section,
    click the “Delete Files…” button.
    6. From the “Delete Files” dialog box, select
    “Delete all offline content” and then click
    “OK”. The files are deleted and the “Delete
    Files” dialog box closes.
    7. Click “OK” to close the “Internet
    Options” dialog box.
    8. Without closing Internet Explorer and without re-starting
    the .chm file, all the hyperlinks that didn’t work before
    will now work.

    - If I click “Cancel” from the “File
    Download – Security Warning” dialog box, the file does
    not appear in the Temporary Internet Files folder.
    - When a file does appear in the Temporary Internet Files
    folder, its Internet Address is displayed similar to the following:
    “ms-its:C:\PrimaryProjectFolder\ProjectName.chm::/SubFolderName/FileName.xls”
    “View Objects…”
    Here’s a list of all the program files that appear:
    - “Microsoft Office Template and Media Control”
    (Last Accessed 12/13/06) (Version 12,0,6024,0)
    - “Shockwave ActiveX Control” (Last Accessed
    12/14/06) (Version 10,1,4,20)
    - “Shockwave Flash Object” (Last Accessed
    12/18/06) (Version 9,0,28,0)
    - “Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool”
    (Last Accessed 12/14/06) (Version 1,5,722,0)
    - “WUWebControl Class” (Last Accessed 12/13/06)
    (Version 5,8,0,2469)
    Today is 12/18/06 so the only program file that is listed as
    having been “Last Accessed” today is the
    “Shockwave Flash Object”.
    REQUEST FOR HELP
    I really want to include certain PDF, DOC, and XLS files in
    their native format in a .chm file. However, I need a better
    solution to my problem than the one I discovered. What I really
    want is to avoid the entire problem altogether.
    Have anyone seen this before or have any suggestions?

    You wont be able to do that. The embedded objects would appear as images only.

    I see no problem with your batch file, and the messages
    proceed properly. To troubleshoot this further, I suggest
    you read the email (currently adjacent) titled:
    "Error using MIF doclet to create PDFs".
    It describes several different approaches, including
    generating PS and using Distiller to generate PDF,
    or trying dzbatcher with -v option to echo each
    command to see where it stops.
    Please let us know your results, as this seems to be
    a common problem.
