Including actionscript in a flex application

If I include a an external actionscript file in a flex mxml
file, I get different behaviours at compile time depending on the
method used. Using an mx script tag with a xource attribute or an
include statement, then compiling the file gives errors like:
Error: Packages cannot be nested.
If use import these errors go away and the file compiles but
then I have problems when trying to instantiate the class.
import lib.journal;
public var testing:journal = new journal();
testing.init();
which gives:
Error: Access of undefined property testing.
Can anyone explain what is going on here? What effect does
including the file as opposed to importing it have on packages and
scope?
thanks,

thanks. i think that makes sense. I'm now getting another
error though:
journal/trunk/lib/MindJournal.as(42): col: 41 Error: Type was
not found or was not a compile-time constant: SQLEvent.
private function selectResult(event:SQLEvent):void {
^
journal/trunk/lib/MindJournal.as(65): col: 40 Error: Type was
not found or was not a compile-time constant: SQLErrorEvent.
private function selectError(event:SQLErrorEvent):void {
I'm trying to adapt what is here:
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/air/flex/quickstart/simple_sql_database.html
to use an external actionscript class which now looks like:
[code]
package lib {
import flash.data.SQLResult;
import flash.data.SQLConnection;
import flash.filesystem.File;
import flash.data.SQLStatement;
import flash.data.SQLConnection;
public class MindJournal {
private var conn:SQLConnection;
private var createStmt:SQLStatement;
private var insertStmt:SQLStatement;
private var insertStmt2:SQLStatement;
private var selectStmt:SQLStatement;
public function init() {
conn = new SQLConnection();
conn.addEventListener(SQLEvent.OPEN, openSuccess);
conn.addEventListener(SQLErrorEvent.ERROR, openFailure);
var dbFile:File =
File.applicationStorageDirectory.resolvePath("/db/journal.sqlite");
conn.openAsync(dbFile);
//getData();
private function getData():void {
status = "Loading data";
selectStmt = new SQLStatement();
selectStmt.sqlConnection = conn;
var sql:String = "SELECT id, column_1, column_2 FROM
entries";
selectStmt.text = sql;
selectStmt.addEventListener(SQLEvent.RESULT, selectResult);
selectStmt.addEventListener(SQLErrorEvent.ERROR,
selectError);
selectStmt.execute();
private function selectResult(event:SQLEvent):void {
status = "Data loaded";
selectStmt.removeEventListener(SQLEvent.RESULT,
selectResult);
selectStmt.removeEventListener(SQLErrorEvent.ERROR,
selectError);
var result:SQLResult = selectStmt.getResult();
var numRows:int = result.data.length;
for (var i:int = 0; i < numRows; i++)
var output:String = "";
for (var prop:String in result.data
output += prop + ": " + result.data[prop] + "; ";
trace("row[" + i.toString() + "]\t", output);
resultsGrid.dataProvider = result.data;
private function selectError(event:SQLErrorEvent):void {
status = "Error loading data";
selectStmt.removeEventListener(SQLEvent.RESULT,
selectResult);
selectStmt.removeEventListener(SQLErrorEvent.ERROR,
selectError);
trace("SELECT error:", event.error);
trace("event.error.message:", event.error.message);
trace("event.error.details:", event.error.details);
} //end of class
} //end of package

  • Display & run a Flex Application in NW7

    Hi @ all,
    i´ve developed a FlexApplication to read the Bex Analyser favourites to a Flextree an now im trying to display this application in our NW7 portal. The application is connected to SAP throu a BSP-application.
    With clicking one node of the tree i want to open an sapWorkbook with, for example tcode RRMXP and a WBID = xyz.
    How to manage this problem?
    In flex i have the workbookID and the transactionCode, but how to send them to SAPSystem and after that opening a workbook with excel?

    Hi Daniel,
    You can Export content from flex application using JSP file on your N/W server also.
    The Flow for this would be, collect the required content in HTML Table format string.
    then pass this string as parameter to a JSP page which will open an excel sheet and copy your content to it.
    You can also apply table formatting using usual html tags.
    Plz find some code snippets for your reference :
    Suppose on on click of node you have called for an method which is written in your ActionScript part of Flex Application.
    viz. loadContentInExcel(para1,para2)
    Definition for this method would be like :
    private function loadContentInExcel(para1:String, para2:String):void {
                   //Pass the htmltable in a variable so that it can be delivered
                   //to the backend script
                   var variables:URLVariables = new URLVariables();
                   variables.htmltable     = convertContentToHTMLTable(para1,para2);
                   //Setup a new request and make sure that we are
                   //sending the data through a post
                   var u:URLRequest = new URLRequest("http://XXX.XX.X.XXX:YYYYY/Test_Excel/main.jsp");
                   /* In Above Line Replace XXX.XX.X.XXX:YYYYY with <Host IP>:<Port>  */
                   u.data = variables; //Pass the variables
                   u.method = URLRequestMethod.POST; //Don't forget that we need to send as POST
                   //Navigate to the script
                navigateToURL(u);
    private function convertContentToHTMLTable(para1:String, para2:String):String {
                 //Set default values
                 var font:String = 'ARIAL';
                 var size:String = '10';
                 var str:String = '';
                 var style:String = 'style="font-family:'+font+';font-size:'+size+'pt;"';
                 str = "<table border=1><tbody>";
                 str+="<tr width=\""+100+"\">";
                 str += "<td width=\""+100+"\" "+style+">"+"<B>"+"TransactionCode : "+"</B>"+"</td>";
                 str += "<td width=\""+100+"\" "+style+">"+para1+"</td>";
                 str += "</tr>";
                 str+="<tr width=\""+100+"\">";
                 str += "<td width=\""+100+"\" "+style+">"+"<B>"+"WorkbookID : "+"</B>"+"</td>";
                 str += "<td width=\""+100+"\" "+style+">"+para2+"</td>";
                 str += "</tr>";
                 str+="</tbody></table>";
                 return str;
    In main.jsp page mention content type as application/vnd.ms-excel.
    In body tag mention out.println(request.getParameter("htmltable").
    Hope this will help you..

    Vivek

  • Calling a FLEX application from html, using parameters

    Hi guys,
    I have this html:
    <form name="getTracing" method="POST" action="http://syyzas400/ShipmentInquiry/ShipmentDetails.html">
              QuickTrace
    <input type="text" name="TrackNbr" size="14" tabindex="1" maxlength="11">
    <br>
    Carrier
    <select name="Carrier" tabindex="2" style="background-color: #D8E4FF; color: black;
                             font-family: Arial; font-weight: bold; font-size: 9pt; width=114">
              <option>Option1
              <option>Option2
              <option>Option3
    </select>
    As you can notice, there is an Input field ("TrackNbr") and a selection field ("Carrier") with three options... The user enters a Tracking Nbr.
    in first field  and chooses one of the three options from the second field and hits <enter>. In this moment, as you can see from "action" area, an html (part of a FLEX application) is called. The problem is that the parameters ("TrackNbr" and "Carrier") are not transmitted and I don't know how to do that.
    This FLEX application accepts parameters using URL fragments technique (because could be called from another FLEX application, too)
    but obviously this cannot work with the above described form.
    I read about External Interface class, but everybody is talking about calling ActionScript functions, not FLEX applications. Being a newbie in this area,
    I am sure I am missing something, but what?
    Any help would be very appreciated, as usual...
    Florin

    Problem solved.
    I got rid of the form tag (and "action", obviously); instead, I created a JavaScript function used for onClick event of the submit button. Inside this function, I captured the values (using getElementById method) of the input and select field and, using these values, I created the URL for my FLEX application (used with location.href property), and BAM! Everything works like a charm... I am even able to use the Back button to exit the FLEX app and return to the selection screen.
    Now my question is, why does it work??? No complaints at all, just curiosity... I didn't use External Interface class, no exposed ActionScript functions prior calling frm JavaScript, no fancy stuff all sites I saw talking about...
    Grizz..., I have a feeling that what you described above is a simpler and more advanced way to do about the same thing I did; am I right?
    Thanks,
    Florin

  • How to call setter Method of ActionScript class with in a Flex Application

    Hi
    I have Action class as shown :
    public class MyClass
    private var name:String
    public function get name():String {
        return _initialCount;
    public function set name(name:String):void {
        name = name;
    Now please let me know how can i access this Action class under my Flex Application and call the setter Method of it to set the value for the name .
    For example on entering some data in a TextInput and  click of a submit Button , on to the Event Listener , i want to call the set name method of my ActionScript class .
    Please share your ideas on this .

    Thanks  Gordon for your resonse .
    Say for example my Action class is like this :
    public class MyClass
    private var name:String
    public function get name():String {
        return name;
    public function set name(name:String):void {
        name = name;
    This is inside the MXML
    I know this way we can do it
    public var myclass:MyClass = new MyClass();
    myclass.name="Kiran";
    Now my query is can we do in this way also ??
    myclass.set name(SomeTextInput.text);
    Please share your views on this , waiting for your replies .
    Thanks in advance .

  • Flex Gumbo - Library Path "Include all classes" includes ActionScript Files

    I've added an "Actionscript File", i.e. a File with no package/class that is included in an actionscript class.
    In FlexBuilder 3, since there was no option to include all classes, I could optionally choose actionscript files.
    So, Make Flashbuilder's "include all classes" option to not include Actionscript Files by default.

    really its strange only the site works if my flash builder is running , please help

      Thanks all for your attention, i have solved my problem and i think its a bug in the flash builder , the problem was that when you compile the application and you enabling Network Monitoring , the communication of the AMF channels done throw the  http://localhost:37813/flex2gateway/
    and that was the problem if you close the flash builder on your system that getaway dose not exist and on the hosted server there is no such address localhost by this port also so the client application witch is catch in you system try to access your localhost and that cause a security error and the address is also not exist .
    so the solution or we have to compile the project after we disable the Network Monitoring in flash builder .

    C:\lcds31\resources\lcds_swcs\FlexSDK4\frameworks\locale\en_US
    fiber_rb.swc
    C:\lcds31\resources\lcds_swcs\FlexSDK4\frameworks\libs
    fiber.swc and fds.swc
    You can use the following within ANT.
    <!-- Get default compiler options. -->
              <load-config filename="${FLEX_HOME}/frameworks/flex-config.xml"/>
                <!-- List of path elements that form the roots of ActionScript
                class hierarchies. -->
                <source-path path-element="${FLEX_HOME}/frameworks"/>
              <!-- List of SWC files or directories that contain SWC files. -->
                <compiler.library-path dir="${FLEX_HOME}/frameworks" append="true">
                    <include name="libs" />
                    <include name="../bundles/{locale}" />
                </compiler.library-path>

  • Error in compiling Flex application: 64K byte limit

    Hi experts ,
    While deploying the VC model , i m getting this error :
    Error in compiling Flex application: Error: A function in the code exceeds the 64K byte limit (actual size = '65557'). Since the problem occurs in the compiler-generated deferred instantiation code, please refactor/componentize portions of this document.
          (/usr/sap/NW2/JC00/j2ee/cluster/server0/GUIMachine_Business_Packages/Contribution_Margin_36461/FLEX_COMPILATION_FOLEDR/AAD15VY.mxml:19)
    Failed to compile AAD15VY.mxml
    Could any one help me out in solving this issue ..its urgent ...
    Your suggestions will be rewarded.
    Thanks,
    Pratima

    You have to remove few components from your model to decrease the compiler generated LOC.
    Check the following link for detailed solution:
    https://websmp130.sap-ag.de/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/sapnotes/index2.htm?numm=936390
    Taken from SAP Notes:
    <i>Solution
    Doing the following may help:
    1.Divide problematic iViews into a number of nested iViews.
    2.Optimize each model to reduce the number of elements that it
      contains:
      a.Reduce the number of signals by merging signals of the same name.
      b.When your application updates forms with read-only fields, use
        expression boxes and a data store instead of signals.
      c.Minimize the use of animations in your models, including form
        sliding and chart animation effects
      d.Use a data store to store variables, instead of invisible forms.
        To display messages, use a simple text rather than a static dynamic
        expression.
    3.For on-the-spot, temporary workarounds, you can try dragging an empty
      layer onto the Design board. This sometimes solves the problem ad
      hoc, but is not recommended as a best practice.

  • How to read JBoss server 'app.properties' file in the deployed Flex application?

    Hi, my current Flex project is using LCDS server to make call (Remote object call and Data managements services' call) to the backend Java services and consume data to render. I have defined the AMF and RTMP channels in the services-config.xml file and destinations for the Java services' in the remoting-config.xml and data-management-config.xml files.
         <channel-definition id="my-amf" class="mx.messaging.channels.AMFChannel">
                <endpoint url="http://localhost:8080/eqcFlex/messagebroker/amf" class="flex.messaging.endpoints.AMFEndpoint"/>
                <properties>
                    <polling-enabled>false</polling-enabled>
                </properties>
         </channel-definition>
    As of now both the Flex application WAR file and Java services EAR files are depolyed on the JBoss server on my machine, therefore I can hardcode the endpoint URL as http://localhost:8080 in the services-config file and hit the Java services.
    But the requirement is that the Flex application WAR file needs to be deployed on JBoss servers deployed on different machines and hence the endpoint URL cann't be hardcoded in the services-config.xml file. Is there a way we can pick up the endpoint URL from the JBoss server's app.properties file so that we can dynamically create channels in Actionscript code and make call to the backend services with dynamic endpoint URL?

    But in Command prompt I found out that My properties file by name
    'cedrelay.properties' is not recognised by web.xml.My web.xml structure is
    How does web.xml "recognize" anything?
    You specify the properties file as an init parameter. Do you read it in the init method of the servlet? If so, what does the code look like for reading the properties file?
    You'll have better luck if you put that properties file in WEB-INF/classes and load it as a resource input stream from the CLASSPATH.

  • How to change Flex Application frame rate at runtime

    hello,
    i have Flex application that need to change the Frame Rate at
    runtime.
    when i am changing it by using the slider component, here the
    code:
    private function onChangeSlider(e:Event):void
    frameRate = sliderFR.value;
    trace(frameRate);
    <mx:HSlider id="sliderFR" x="452" y="765" width="378.2"
    minimum="1" maximum="50" liveDragging="true" snapInterval="1"
    value="25" change="onChangeSlider(event)"/>
    the value is changed, but the frame rate is not changed.
    when i insert the binding to the <Application> tag i
    got error on this one, because i can't bind there items for the
    application level.
    how can i change the Flex frame rate at runtime?

    i found the solution!
    in Flex application you have frameRate properties that
    doesn't work at runtime in the ActionScript code.
    if you have a video that you want to change the speed of it,
    you need to change the stage.frameRate (of all the Player itself).
    and there is a catch here. if you will try to change it right after
    the application will start (like in: creationComplete event) you
    will have a runtime error.
    what you need to do is, change the stage.frameRate value
    after the all application is started from a button or other event
    in the system.
    this is working grate for fast/slow FLV playing
    enjoy!

  • QTP unable to identify objects in a flex application

    Hi,
    I am having an application that runs on flex 3.6 SDK. I am trying to automate the same using QTP 10.0, but, I am unable to identify the objects. I have installed the Flex 4.5 add-in, but still unable to recognize objects.
    Upon browsing some forums, i found that I need to compile the files "automation.swc, automation_agent.swc, automation_dmv.swc, qtp.swc, automation_flashflexkit.swc" by including them in <include-libraries> ...</include-libraries>  tags in "flex-config.xml" file present under "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Flex Builder 3 Plug-in\sdks\3.6.0\frameworks". We did that, but still, not able to identify objects.
    It would be of great help to me if any some one could tell if I am missing out anything ?

    hello,
    not only need the objects be enclosed by their parent frame, but they also need to be "on top of it" ... meaning if you imagine your report layout as a set of layers that you look at from the side, your "layout surface" would be the bottom most layer and then all objects would be layered on top of each other. in this view, only objects that are in layers above a particular frame can become its children. after that the relationship is determined whether or not an object is inside a frame or not.
    you might want to check your object navigator to see whether or not the particular objects are actually in the right place in the hierarchy.
    thanks,
    ph.

  • In Flex application functionality is working sometimes and not working sometimes..

    Hi,
    Please help me on this..
    In my flex application some functionality is working some times and not working sometimes..
    In my project i have 5 sections with 5 separate screens..Each screen is of one diffeent module.
    After logining into the application:
      I will go to one screen..First time every functionality is working in that screen..
    Ex:: I have a screen with datagrid.From that user will select one job name from datagrid click on next button..
    Based the job name the user selected i have to display some information in next screen and customer names.customer names is a combo box..
    below is the code:::
                   public function populateAllOEMCustomers(event:ResultEvent):void
              1)     var object_CustomerList:CustomerList = event.result as CustomerList; //Assigining result object values to Object reference variable.
              2)    var allOEMCustomersCollection:ArrayCollection = new ArrayCollection(); //Declaration ArrayColliction referance variable.
             3)       var i:int=0;
             4)      var customerComboLabel:Label = new Label();
              5)      for (i = 0;i < object_CustomerList.arryCollCustName.length; i++)
                        var strCustName:String = object_CustomerList.arryCollCustName.getItemAt(i).toString();
                        var strCustId:String = object_CustomerList.arryCollCustId.getItemAt(i).toString();
                        customerComboLabel = new Label(); //Dynamic declaration of label.
                        customerComboLabel.name = strCustName; //Assinging the customer name to the Label name field.
                        customerComboLabel.text = strCustId; //Assingning the customer id to the Label text field.
                        allOEMCustomersCollection.addItem(customerComboLabel); //Adding Lable into the ArrayCollection referace variable.
                    //customerComboID.selectedItem = "--";
                    OEMCustomersComboID.dataProvider = allOEMCustomersCollection;
                    OEMCustomersComboID.selectedItem = -1;
    This functionality is working fine when i visit to this screen first time..If you go back to another screen and come back to this same screen and click on next button this time customer names combo box has no customer details..I am getting Nullpointer Exception and it is showing the line number 5( i have given the number for code given above..)
    If i change the first line of the code to below code:: every time the above functionality is working fine.Not getting any error msg..
      var object_CustomerList:Object= event.result ;
    If i  type cast it to specific class(CustomerList) ,functionality is not working ..getting null pointer exception..If i type cast it to Object everything is working fine..In my code wherever i have typecasted it to specific class functionality is not working(gettingNullpointerExcepion).
    Please help me on this..I am not getting what could be the reason..
    I am using::Flex 3,Flash player 10.1
    Thanks in advance..
    Regards,
    Satya

    Hi Satya,
    This sometimes as in your case might not work as the way you have specified the RemoteClass attribute in your AS class. As somtimes there may be a case as before it is mapped to a server side you are returned the data and so that you may not get the data as your Custom class but as normal Object type.
    So in order to avoid this you can map the server side class to AS classes in the PreInitialize handler itself as shown below:
    Specify the preinitializeHandler in your main application and write the below function.This way also you can map AS classes with the server side. So that you will not have any problem referring your application as AS class types.
    You can use the same line for registering all the classes. By using this you can remove all the  [RemoteClass] attributes on all AS classes and include it at single place.
    preinitialize="onPreinitialize()"
    private function onPreinitialize():void
      registerClassAlias("com.expeditor.ScriptAdmin.Objects.CustomerList", CustomerList);
    Here in the above line of code the string in quotes refer to the namespace of the Server side class and the latter is your AS class. Also dont forget to import the namespace of the corresponding AS class in the file.
    Try this and let me know..
    Thanks,
    Bhasker

  • Restarting A Flex Application Programmatically

    Howdy folks,
    I have just created a database driven user management system
    which works wonders, but I'm having a problem with logging out a
    user. By far the easiest, sure fire way of doing this would be to
    clear the users login in the database (not really relevant to the
    problem) then restart the application programmatically (as if the
    user pressed the refresh button in thier browser) which would bring
    them back to the login screen at the start of the application. Is
    re-initialising the application possible to do in actionscript?
    If not it would involve clearing user specific variables,
    resending http requests which relate to the login, removing
    permissions based controls and all this over many modules... just a
    hell of a lot of what may be unesscessary work, especially if all
    that really needs to happen is the application to re-initialise.
    Any help on this would be amazing!
    Many thanks

    PHP web page and let PHP do the authentication/deauthentication. To
    logout the user you can create a PHP function that destroys the
    session variable and then refresh/redirect to the login/home page
    of your application.
    Thanks for the reply but I'm afraid it isn't as easy as that.
    I'm a php guru and I do use PHP and FlashVars for use with
    authentication but only to 'remember' user information when the
    user opens up a different application (basically if they log into
    one application, theyre logged into the rest). Using 'out of
    application' authentication is of no use when it comes to a
    permissions based user system and applying dynamic permissions
    (such as "this user can see this menu", "this user cant press this
    button") to a flex application. It's clearing these permission
    variables I'd prefer not to do if the application can be
    programmatically re-initialised which would have the same
    effect.

  • Create a folder in desktop with flex application?

    Hi,
    i want to create and save a folder in my computer using my flex application, so is there an actionScript function to do this?
    Thank you,
    Celine

    I do not believe this is possible to do with a browser based application.
    But, if you run your app in AIR you can do use the Flash.filesystem
    class to create a directory:
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/langref/flash/filesystem/File.html
