Incompatibility problem with JVM

I am running Win98 and I use IE5.5 for my browser. I tried installing JVM and recieved the error:
Error number 0X80070725
Description: Incompatible version of the RPC Stub
The installation was stopped. I now have a problem with some applets and/or windows opening from some links. I'll get a window either transparent or blank and the pointer is an hourglass looking as if something is happening but nothing does. I can close the window with no problem but the only way I can get to some of the sites I need is to hand type them in the address bar. Some I can't even get to. PLEASE HELP !!!
Thanks in advance,
Chris Mann

There's currently an epidemic of this problem. It's a
really new problem,because Microsoft in their wisdom,
made a version of the OLEAUT32.DLL (et.al), version
3.50, that is incompatible with Windows 98. IMHO this
was a big mistake by Microsoft and the worst form of
DLL HELL. It comes with the version that ships with
Windows XP.
Someone has made an install that includes this new
DLL, thereby destroying your system. Here is a fix:
Download:
download.microsoft.com/download/msninvestor/Patch/1.0/W
N98/EN-US/mcrepair.E
XE
Then run it, and when it prompts you to overwrite
newer files, make sure you click YES for each file
(not "No" or "No to all")
This will replace all of the 3.50 DLLs from XP with
older versions
compatible with Windows 98 (2.40.4515)
NOTE TO ALL INSTALL DEVELOPERS: DO NOT INCLUDE THE
WINDOWS XP VERSION OF
OLEAUT32.DLL, OLEPRO32.DLL, ASYCFILT.DLL and
STDOLE2.TLB in your setup. It is causing great pain
everywhere.
Ted.

  • Potential Thread Problem with JVM (1.4.2_05)

    This junit test fails on 1.4.2_05 (running on Windows XP), is there a problem with the code or the JVM?
    public class BadJVMTest extends junit.framework.TestCase {

          offset++;

            try {
              new Inner().m1();
            } catch (Throwable t) {
              failed++;
              System.err.println("Problem on call number " + (i + 1) + " (" + t + ")");
      public void test() throws Exception {
        int numOfThreads = 100;
        ReadThread threads[] = new ReadThread[numOfThreads];
        for (int i = 0; i < numOfThreads; i++) {
          threads[i] = new ReadThread();
          threads.start();
    for (int i = 0; i < numOfThreads; i++) {
    threads[i].join();
    for (int i = 0; i < numOfThreads; i++) {
    assertEquals(0, threads[i].failed);

    Nothing jumps out at me about the code (other than
    its general convolutedness, which I assume you're
    aware of).
    What, exactly, are you observing? I assume it's that
    fOffset is zero after calling m2(), so you're
    throwing the RTE, right?Which does look like a bug to me, however, there are parts of nested class arcania that are beyond my paltry knowledge, so I may be basing that on faulty assumptions.

  • Mouse Scroll speed problems with JVM

    I could not find Java (Apple’s JVM ) forums, so I might be posting this in the wrong forum. With that disclaimer, here is my issue:
    I am running into a problem where the mouse-wheel scrolling speed configurations are not being properly passed to Java applications. I have set my scrolling speed to the maximum, all works well with regula apps, yet when I use my mouse-wheel to scroll and window in a Java application, scrolling it is unbearably slow, the wheel becomes useless.
    Also, horizontal scrolling does not work in any java application either.
    I believe these are a problem with Apple's JVM implementation. Are there any workarounds?
    Has anyone else experience this?
    JVM v1.5

    Does this happen with all Java apps or just a handful? I ask because I found that OpenOffice scrolls so slowly that it's unusable. However, I think this is an issue with OO, not with Java. Other Java apps scroll fine for me.

  • Incompatibility problems with mac mini MA206LL/A* and linksys WRT610N

    i purchased a new wrt610n and one of the machines that is connected is a mac mini, 1.66 ghz intel core duo.
    #ma2066/ll/a for those who want to compare notes. the computer is stock with the 802.11g wireless card that came with the machine. it is running the current software and all the updates are up to date.
    i am using wpa 2 personal w / aes
    their is some kind of incompatibility or issue between the wrt610n and the mac mini.
    either using the wireless connection OR connected directly to the router, web pages are very slow to load. sometimes it can take up to 45 seconds for the mac mini to open up a webpage. for 45 seconds it is at 'contacting website'
    when i try to run software update, i get a time out error -1001, make sure you can connect to the internet and try again.
    hulu desktop is also running slow.
    copying a file from the mac mini to a another computer over wifi averages about 1 mb/s
    when i informed linksys about this problem, they took my phone number and said that a linksys Technician / senior tech support employee would call me back. that was a day or so ago. i asked if i can have any newer firmware, considering the latest is 5 months old.
    i am considering returning this router, but i don't see a lot of good alternatives that have similar features. i have 21 days to return this. the restocking fee will be 15% i am also considering various 802.11n solutions for the mac mini, even including the dell 1500 wireless mini card, i heard it works as an airport card.
    if i do get a different model router i would like external antennas.
    my previous router was a 5 year old wrt54gs version 2.0, and it never had a problem with any of the computers with the network.
    the trouble shooting steps involved changing the beacon to 75 and the mtu to something else, i forgot. it did not make a difference.
    i moved the mini and connected it wired to the wrt610 and turned off the airport wireless card and there was no improvement.
    when i disconnected the wrt610n and connected the mac mini directly to my dsl modem. the issues were suddenly gone.
    theres some kind of problem with this particular unit. and i would like to hear from others who have solved this or are experiencing the same problem

    Just out of curiosity: what internet provider do you have? I'm just asking since I had similar issues after switching from AT&T DSL to AT&T U-verse. Sometimes pages took a very long time to load, or just a part or image of the page. Sometimes I would get a page not found error or something like this and only refreshing the page several times would retrieve and display the actual page.
    Here's what I did: I went into my iMac's network preferences and switched the DNS server IP with one from OpenDNS.com, such as 208.67.222.222.
    Since then I haven't had these issues anymore. Don't ask me why though; but I would be curious to hear whether this may fix your issue as well!

    Fisrt of all, thanks for your reply Sandra.
    I wrote the following commads in cmd.exe
    --------> Compiling <--------
    $:> g++ -c examp_1.cpp -I "C:\Program Files\Oracle\Berkeley DB 4.5.20\include"
    and all did corectly i get my examp_1.o object file.
    -------> Linking <--------
    $:> g++ -o exampl_1 examp_1.o -L "C:\Program Files\Oracle\Berkeley DB 4.5.20\lib" -I "C:\Program Files\Oracle\Berkeley DB 4.5.20\db-4.5.20"
    but i still get the same error.
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    As i understand without know enough about linking it's impossible for g++ (MINGW) to understand in linking step the .lib file which is Berkley DB's library for C/C++ API. The only that g++ tackles is .so or .a libraries and no .lib.
    If you don't aggree with this I want to know your opinion.
    As a result the only way to link correct an DB application with g++ is to Build the Berkley DB again with g++ something that is not so easy for me.
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    I Builded DB in Fedora 6 Linux Distribution. I did the make and the .libs directory inside the build_unix directory was created.
    But I have similar problem to build my DB application.
    I do the following 2 steps:
    1. Compiling
    g++ -c example_1.cpp
    and I get the example.o object file. I don't understand why g++ didn't complain to include the .h files that demands Berkley DB.
    2. Linking
    g++ -o example example_1.o -L my_path/build_unix/.libs
    And I get the known messages the same i get with MinGW's g++.
    What does it happen in Linux environment? what arguments i don't give?
    And one last question how s.o could find the default path that a linker automaticaly include its libraries? Is this standar for all GNU linux distibution.
    I am writting this cause in Fedora there is in old DB distribution and i found it in /etc/libs (db-3XX.so) so I don't know what happens.
    Thanks for your help and for your support I really appreciate it.

  • How do I fix an incompatibility problem with Windows 7?

    Through the day, I have been getting this eror message:  Adobe Acrobat 5 is not compatile with Windows 7, which is my OS.  What should I do?
    Earlier in the day, I had gotten a certificate revocation notice about Acrobat.  Thinking it was an intruder, I did not allow it to make changes to my computer.  Now, I am sure that was a mistake but I am not sure what I need to do.   Sure could use some help.

    Thank you, Kglad and Mylenium.   It is Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.  It is just the version that came with my PC.  There has never been a problem before yesterday.
    Things seem to be working OK but I feel sure I need that program to be working.
    I have looked at what is available for upgrading  and I am not sure where to go from here.  I thought the update on this page would be right but it does not mention Windows 7.  Nothing later than XP.  http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=1309
    It also says.......Note: Acrobat must be closed before running the patch.   Can you tell me how to close Acrobat and if this is the right patch to download?
    Thank you so much for your help.  You are  much appreciated.

  • Incompatability problem with flash & activeX

    win7 home/in11/17.0.0.169---all up-to-date
    when I check X on I get msgs from webs [including yours] that there either is NO player or that player not up-to-date  and when I don't check X I also get msgs about flash...either way I sometime get to see the vid, sometime not....any idea what I need to do to make this stop?[cant be BOTH ways!]
    I am also being plagued with [guilt by association?] system msgs that the system 'has stopped working'  [LOTS and LOTS of them]....even getting that kind of msg from attempts at NORTON starts--appearing ALL day/every day  no matter if X checked or not.[and YES I have tried all the 'canned' solutions for that one also--up to resetting the system options...THAT is a little too drastic just yet]
    About ready to get the sledge hammer out and 'fix' things..... been FORCED to use chrome MORE [even gotten a few of those msgs in there!] but it has it's own little 'drawbacks'  that I have issues with, so still want the use of wiin7 as MAIN stay[for as long a ms is gonna lets us have it?]
    any help/insights will be GREATLY appreciated and definitely pursued

    Update:  The Flash Player team has posted an updated Flash Player installer file for IE for enterprise with the correct version number on Monday, October 8, 2012.
    We have found the problem.  Unfortunately, a couple of MSI package properties were not updated to version 11.4.402.278.  Therefore when you install from the file “install_flash_player_11_active_x.msi”, the version number in the Windows Control Panel displays 11.4.402.267 (see below).
    However, you can confirm that you have the latest version (11.4.402.278) by checking on the Flash Player help hub, as shown below.

  • Problems with JVM (anyone could help me?)

    Hi!!
    I've installed the Java Virtual Machine on my Desktop yesterday, as a first step to install the other components necessary to begin learning Java. But it still don't load Java Applets on my Internet explorer.
    I already configured on the Internet Explorer (Tools > Internet Options) all the options I tought that could be, but it doesn't work anyway.

    Does anybody know what may be happening??
    Tks for you assistance!!
    Rodrigo

    Hello Rod,
    I can possibly tell you What is happening but cannot tell you Why it is happening.
    What is happening is this. The applet container is trying to download the applet class file and the server is refusing to give it due to authentication/authorization failure.
    Now you figure it out why it is happening.

  • Very complicated connection-related problem on XP x64 with JVM (Bug?)

    Hello,
    i am posting because I have a very serious, insistent problem:
    I have running a Java server application ("Interactive Brokers Workstation") that sends data in ASCII format to my own app, programmed in C++, that created a TCP connection (on localhost) to that mentioned server app.
    So far, so good. Everything was nice when I was running 1 instance of the server app, 1 instance of the client app on a single - core CPU some time ago.
    Then I started using 2 instances of the Java server app, I let my own program connect to both servers (one in listening on one port, one on another)
    and began to notice problems: The connections were ok, but the Java server
    app simply seemed to stop sending data over it. Diagnostics of the Java apps are fine, however !
    (!! See below, my assumption is that it is a problem with the OS related to the JVM !!)
    I solved the situation by running also 2 instances of my own app, one connecting to server 1, one server2, it worked.
    Last week, I received a Quad-Core machine. Now things really got messed up. It simply does not work any more at all.
    After a few seconds the server seems to stop sending data but diagnostics appear ok.
    STRANGE: With default OS process priorities, the data stops after 10 seconds, when I set process affinities of all mentioned processes to
    one single core, it is ok for a few minutes and if I raise my own app
    to "High" and keep the JVM at normal, it was ok for an hour or two.
    My OS is XP x64 SP2
    I consider myself a experienced C programmer. I double checked all my
    own code, it is definetly ok, and I assume the Java app's code is ok also.
    I see the problem directly in the OS and/or it may be related to the JVM.
    I tested Java 1.6, 1.7, 64 and 32 bit editions each, server and client VMs.
    The problem appeared in every configuration.
    I cleared out all 3rd possible problem causes, like firewall etc.
    My question: Did anyone experience a similar situation ?
    Can anyone (e.g. from Sun) make a claim what the cause of the problem could be?
    Thanks a lot.

  • Problem with DOM4j running on JRockit

    Until recently, we were using SUN Java JVM for running our applications and now we run it on JRockit. Ever since we made this change, we are experiencing this strange problem with DOM4j.
    There is a certain set of XMLs in our application, which do not have any schema (neither DTD nor XSD). We use DOM4J (v1.4) for on the fly unmarshalling of these XMLs and then use XPath to extract the data. There is method in DOM4j (Element.selectNodes()) which extracts the relevant information from the XML based on the XPath provided. The problem is, this List which this method returns, contains a 'null'. This would result in a NullPointerException later on in the program execution.
    Please note that since we did not have this problem in SUN JVM, I presume that there is some kind of incompatibility between JRockit and DOM4j. That is why I am posting this question here.
    Thanks in advance.
    Cheers,
    -Nagendra

    Hi Henrik,
    Thanks for your reply.
    We are using R26.4 version of JRockit.
    This problem occurs only on our production servers and the occurance in not consistent as well. Early on in the runtime of the server, everything is ok (including the functionality which would give this problem). But, aprroximately after 2 days of running, the server starts giving this problem. Forcing us to restart the application. Since application uptime is a critical deliverable for us, this problem has become a bottleneck for us.
    Haven't tried -Xnoopt JVM option yet.
    Thanks.

  • Problem with threads hanging

    We have a problem where our application stops responding after a few days of usage. Things will for fine for a day or two, and then pretty quickly threads will start getting hung up, usually in places where they are allocating memory
    We are running WebLogic 8.1 SP2 on Sun JDK 1.4.2_04 on Solaris 8 using the alternate threading model and the -server hotspot vm. We are running pretty much the same code that we had no problems with under WebLogic 6.1 SP4 and Sun JDK 1.3.1.
    A thread dump usually shows that some or all of our execute threads are in the state "waiting for monitor entry" even though they are not currently waiting on any java locks. Here is a sample thread from the thread dump (we have ~120 threads so I don't want to post the full dump).

    String.java line 1446 for this jdk allocates a new String object, and all the other threads in this state also are creating new objects or arrays, etc.
    We've done a pstack on this process when it's in this state, and the threads that are in the "waiting for monitor entry" that look like they're allocating memory are all waiting on the same lwp_mutex_lock with some allocation method that's calling into the native TwoGenerationCollectorPolicy.mem_allocate_work (see pstack output below for the same thread as in the thread dump above)

    Has anyone ever seen anything like this? I'm trying to figure out if this is caused by something we're doing, or something relating to our environment and jvm options. Any ideas?

    Thanks for the reply - I'm testing our app with the +UseConcMarkSweepGC now in our test environment to make sure it doesn't cause any problems there.  Unfortunately the only place we've had this problem is on the production server, so it's extra difficult debugging this.
    We're using the following memory options:
    -ms512m -mx512m -XX:NewSize=128m -XX:PermSize=192m -XX:MaxNewSize=128m -XX:MaxPermSize=192m -XX:SurvivorRatio=8and the following debugging options, as we've also been seeing OutOfMemoryErrors ( see http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=37&thread=522354&tstart=45&trange=15 )
    -verbosegc -XX:+PrintGCDetails -XX:+PrintGCTimeStamps -XX:+PrintHeapAtGCBTW, which c++filt version and options are you using? Our Solaris boxes only seem to have the GNU version installed. I was trying to run that on some of the other stack traces and wasn't getting anywhere, and didn't know if because it was GNU version wouldn't work on something compiled with the Sun compiler.
    Thanks!

  • Problem with threads and/or memory

    I'm developing an application where there are 3 threads. One of them sends a request to the other, and if the 2nd can't answer it, it sends it to the 3rd (similar to CPU -> CACHE -> MEMORY). When i run the program with 1000-10.000 requests, no problem occurs. When i run it with 300.000-1.000.000 requests, it sometimes hangs. Is this a problem with the garbage collector, or should it be related to the threads mecanism.
    (note: eache thread is in execution using a finite state machine)

    i had been running the program inside Netbeans.
    Running the jar using the command line outside
    Netbeans i have no more problems... Does Netbeans use
    it's own JVM?Depends how you set it up, but look under the options. There are settings for the compiler and jvm that it uses.

  • Genius needs to help! problems with my video card and system

    Hey guys! I'm going to post my specs first so that you get a good idea of what I'm running on:
    MSI Neo2 LS 865PE.....MAT=Slow
    Pentium4 2.4C.....FSB=233=2.8C hyperthreading enabled ~>1.55V
    Corsair TwinX 1gig PC3700.....memory on "AUTO" in BIOS with timings at 3,4,4,8 ~> 2.7V
    Radeon 9700NP.....stock speeds ~>1.7V
    AlienX case with 2 fan400 watt power supply and 6 case fans
    Zalman Alum/Copper heatsink fan
    1:I've had this motherboard for a few months now. I upgraded my video card from a nVidia Ti4200(128meg) to a Radeon 9800 a month ago, but I couldn't get it working at 8X AGP, no matter what voltages I threw at it. I returned it for a Radeon 9700NP hoping that it would work, but it still won't.
    I'm using BIOS 1.9 and since there is no option to select your AGP speed, I could only try using ATI's drivers. Once booted into Windows, there is a slider you can move to select you AGP speed. On my machine It says that It has performed some tests and has concluded that AGP 4x is the best for my system....but my system supports AGP 8X!
    I've moved the slider over to 8x (which requires a reboot) at least 5 times with each card but the slider refuses to move past 4xAGP after the reboot.
    2: My second problem: I had an old stick of KingMax PC3200 and decided to buy 3 more sticks. Unfortunatly, the 3 I bought did not match the one I had, so I only put 2 of the new sticks I bought into my system. Immediatly, My system would crash, lock up, files were corrupt, and I got PLENTY of blue screens of death with a long message containing: 0x0000007  with all these other numbers and "0"s. I did a search online and found out I had a hardware incompatibility problem. I never got this with my old stick of ram.
    I returned the 3 sticks of Ram and replaced them with the Corsair. Put my new Radeon 9700 in, formatted my hard drive....and within 24 hours, my system locked up 3 times, rebooted itself 5 times, and gave me the same BSOD as mentioned above with the same long message.
    I didn't change anything except for the memory and the video card. I've been wanting to overclock, (thats why i bought the faster memory   ) but I'm not sure what to do at this point.
         I have my FSB at 233 but I'm scared to go any higher because of previous system instability at stock speeds. My RAM was running on 400 and MAT=Turbo with the most relaxed timings at 3,4,4,8.
    I've given myself hours of sleepless nights formatting when my system wouldnt boot into windows; overclocking....etc. I NEED HELP. PLEASE. PLEASE. Anything could work at this point.
         I'm trying to get more info on how to run my system at a 5:4 ratio, also.
    If anyone has problems like me or knows what could be the problem with my system, please reply to this post, it would help me a lot. I've been trying to fix these problems for a few months now so anything is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks a lot to you guys that responded. I brought my computer home this past holiday and I want to let you know where I stand as of now. I guess this thread is like my blog for my computer. I want to clear some things before my first post makes everyone confused.
    1- I have only 2 sticks of memory in my system: the Corsair PC3700 TwinX 512x2
    I returned the 3 KingMax I bought, and still keep my old stick just in case.
    2- I am using the 400 watt power supply that came with the case. I read some reviews of the case and I know the reviewer did not have problems with the power supply. In my BIOS, there are some voltages it is weak on. Lets say: it it should be 5.00+, my power supply will be feeding it 4.96v or something like that, but I dont know, or think, that is a major problem...
    3- My computer will refuse to boot if memory speeds are set at anything below 400. SO....if I want to use a 5:4 ratio and have to set my memory speeds to "333" in BIOS, my system refuses to boot.
    4- This morning, I did manage to overclock my FSB to 250. Specs are as follow:
    Memory Timing @3,4,4,8,4.....speed set at "AUTO".....MAT at "SLOW"
    MY 2.4C's FSB was raised to 250 = 3.0gig
    AGP/PCI frequency: 67.xx/3x.xx (cant go any lower)
    CPU voltage: 1.5500
    Memory voltage: 2.75
    Video Card voltage: 1.7
         Everything was fine for the whole day until I heard something click in my computer around midnight, and then seconds later, my computer froze and made a continuous beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep. (you can imagine)
         This "click" and system crash has been plaguing me for months now. I dont know whay it happens. I was just using AIM when I heard the click and my heart stopped.
    My memory speeds have been set to "AUTO" even at the FSB of 250. But I don't know if this still means my system is at a 1:1 ratio. I know the BIOS then adjusts the memory to work at 500 if my FSB is 250...so I assume it is?    I love 3gig, but somehow I feel that 2.8 is faster, since the FSB=233 running parallel to my memory, also at 233
    A FSB of 250 is good enough for me, that's what I've been waiting 6 months for. If anyone knows how to set other ratios to achieve a FSB of 250+, please let me know, but as I said, my memory won't boot if its set at "333"

  • Java Webstart application problem with TLS certificate revocation checks (Java 1.7.0_76)

    We have a problem with our Java Web Start Application regarding the TLS certificate revocation check:
    The application is running on a server within a wide area network which is separated from the internet.
    The application users have access to the WAN, and also access to the internet over some corporate proxy/firewall.
    The user has to enter, for example "https://my-site.de/myapp/ma.jnlp" within a webbrowser or could also call  "javaws https://my-site.de/myapp/ma.jnlp" to start the application client.
    The webserver has a certificate from a trusted certificate authority. This certificate seems to be ok, the browser is even configured to perform OCSP status check.
    The application files are signed with a certificate from another trusted certificate authority. This certificate seems also to be ok. Regarding this certificate there
    are no problems with certificate revocation checks.
    The problem is, while starting the application client there is a message box which tell us something like "the connection to this website ist not trustworthy",
    "Website: https://my-site.de:80", and something about an invalid certificate, meaning the webserver certificate.
    Obviously the jvm runtime, which is executed on the users workstation, tries to perform a revocation check for the webservers certificate, but this fails because
    it cannot fetch the certificate under https://my-site.de:80.
    The application will execute without further problems after that message but the users are very concerned about the "invalid" certificate, so here are my questions:
    - Why is the application trying to get the webserver certificate over Port 80. Our application developers told me, there is no corresponding statement. Calling this address
      has to fail while "https://my-site.de:443" or "https://my-site.de" would not have a problem.
    - Is there a way to make the application go on without performing a tls revocation check? I mean, by adjusting the application sourcecode and not by configuring the users Java Control Panel.
      While disabling the TLS Certificate Revocation check in the Java Control Panel, the Webstart Application executes without a warning message, but this is not a workable solution for
      our users.
    It would be great if someone can help me with a hint so i can send our developers into the right direction;-)
    Many thanks!

  • Problem with Configuring Tomcat for running jsp web applications..Plz HELP

    I am using Tomcat 5.5 and Jdk 1.5.0_12 and Oracle 10g. I am using jdbc-odbc bridge connection
    to connect to the database. I have placed my project folder called
    tdm under the webapps folder in Tomcat. This 'tdm' folder consists of
    a collection of html pages,jsp pages and images of my project. Also I created a
    WEB-INF folderand in that I have lib folder which contains catalina-root.jar
    , classes12.jar and nls_charset.jar files. And also in the WEB-INF folder I have the web.xml
    file which looks like this
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>

    You can also enable an SSL HTTP/1.1 Connector on port 8443 by
    following the instructions below and uncommenting the second Connector
    entry. SSL support requires the following steps (see the SSL Config

    instructions):
    * If your JDK version 1.3 or prior, download and install JSSE 1.0.2 or
    later, and put the JAR files into "$JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/ext".
    * Execute:
    %JAVA_HOME%\bin\keytool -genkey -alias tomcat -keyalg RSA (Windows)
    $JAVA_HOME/bin/keytool -genkey -alias tomcat -keyalg RSA (Unix)
    with a password value of "changeit" for both the certificate and
    the keystore itself.
    By default, DNS lookups are enabled when a web application calls
    request.getRemoteHost(). This can have an adverse impact on
    performance, so you can disable it by setting the
    "enableLookups" attribute to "false". When DNS lookups are disabled,
    request.getRemoteHost() will return the String version of the
    IP address of the remote client.

    By defining this element, means that every manager will be changed.
    So when running a cluster, only make sure that you have webapps in there
    that need to be clustered and remove the other ones.
    A cluster has the following parameters:
    className = the fully qualified name of the cluster class
    name = a descriptive name for your cluster, can be anything
    mcastAddr = the multicast address, has to be the same for all the nodes
    mcastPort = the multicast port, has to be the same for all the nodes
    mcastBindAddr = bind the multicast socket to a specific address
    mcastTTL = the multicast TTL if you want to limit your broadcast
    mcastSoTimeout = the multicast readtimeout
    mcastFrequency = the number of milliseconds in between sending a "I'm alive" heartbeat
    mcastDropTime = the number a milliseconds before a node is considered "dead" if no heartbeat is received
    tcpThreadCount = the number of threads to handle incoming replication requests, optimal would be the same amount of threads as nodes
    tcpListenAddress = the listen address (bind address) for TCP cluster request on this host,
    in case of multiple ethernet cards.
    auto means that address becomes
    InetAddress.getLocalHost().getHostAddress()
    tcpListenPort = the tcp listen port
    tcpSelectorTimeout = the timeout (ms) for the Selector.select() method in case the OS
    has a wakup bug in java.nio. Set to 0 for no timeout
    printToScreen = true means that managers will also print to std.out
    expireSessionsOnShutdown = true means that
    useDirtyFlag = true means that we only replicate a session after setAttribute,removeAttribute has been called.
    false means to replicate the session after each request.
    false means that replication would work for the following piece of code: (only for SimpleTcpReplicationManager)
    <%
    HashMap map = (HashMap)session.getAttribute("map");
    map.put("key","value");
    %>
    replicationMode = can be either 'pooled', 'synchronous' or 'asynchronous'.
    * Pooled means that the replication happens using several sockets in a synchronous way. Ie, the data gets replicated, then the request return. This is the same as the 'synchronous' setting except it uses a pool of sockets, hence it is multithreaded. This is the fastest and safest configuration. To use this, also increase the nr of tcp threads that you have dealing with replication.
    * Synchronous means that the thread that executes the request, is also the
    thread the replicates the data to the other nodes, and will not return until all
    nodes have received the information.
    * Asynchronous means that there is a specific 'sender' thread for each cluster node,
    so the request thread will queue the replication request into a "smart" queue,
    and then return to the client.
    The "smart" queue is a queue where when a session is added to the queue, and the same session
    already exists in the queue from a previous request, that session will be replaced
    in the queue instead of replicating two requests. This almost never happens, unless there is a
    large network delay.
    -->
    <!--
    When configuring for clustering, you also add in a valve to catch all the requests
    coming in, at the end of the request, the session may or may not be replicated.
    A session is replicated if and only if all the conditions are met:
    1. useDirtyFlag is true or setAttribute or removeAttribute has been called AND
    2. a session exists (has been created)
    3. the request is not trapped by the "filter" attribute
    The filter attribute is to filter out requests that could not modify the session,
    hence we don't replicate the session after the end of this request.
    The filter is negative, ie, anything you put in the filter, you mean to filter out,
    ie, no replication will be done on requests that match one of the filters.
    The filter attribute is delimited by ;, so you can't escape out ; even if you wanted to.
    filter=".*\.gif;.*\.js;" means that we will not replicate the session after requests with the URI
    ending with .gif and .js are intercepted.
    The deployer element can be used to deploy apps cluster wide.
    Currently the deployment only deploys/undeploys to working members in the cluster
    so no WARs are copied upons startup of a broken node.
    The deployer watches a directory (watchDir) for WAR files when watchEnabled="true"
    When a new war file is added the war gets deployed to the local instance,
    and then deployed to the other instances in the cluster.
    When a war file is deleted from the watchDir the war is undeployed locally
    and cluster wide

    in a browser. Here I accept a username and password from the user and then do the validation in

    accordingly. However when I enter the username and password and click Go in the homepage, nothing is
    displayed on the next page. The URL in the browser says valid.jsp but a blank screen appears.
    WHY DOES IT HAPPEN SO? DOES IT MEAN THAT TOMCAT IS NOT RECOGNIZING JAVA IN MY SYSTEM OR IS IT A PROBLEM
    WITH THE DATABASE CONNECTION OR SOMETHING ELSE? I FEEL THAT TOMCAT IS NOT EXECUTING JSP COMMANDS?
    IS IT POSSIBLE?WHY WILL THIS HAPPEN?
    I set the JAVA_HOME and CATALINA_HOME environment to the jdk and tomcat folders resp.
    Is there any other thing that I need to set in classpath? Should I have my project as a
    WAR file in the webapps of TOMCAT or just a folder i.e. directory structure will fine?

    * If your JDK version 1.3 or prior, download and install JSSE 1.0.2 or

    * Execute:
    %JAVA_HOME%\bin\keytool -genkey -alias tomcat -keyalg RSA (Windows)
    $JAVA_HOME/bin/keytool -genkey -alias tomcat -keyalg RSA (Unix)
    with a password value of "changeit" for both the certificate and
    the keystore itself.
    By default, DNS lookups are enabled when a web application calls
    request.getRemoteHost(). This can have an adverse impact on
    performance, so you can disable it by setting the
    "enableLookups" attribute to "false". When DNS lookups are disabled,
    request.getRemoteHost() will return the String version of the
    IP address of the remote client.

    By defining this element, means that every manager will be changed.
    So when running a cluster, only make sure that you have webapps in there
    that need to be clustered and remove the other ones.
    A cluster has the following parameters:
    className = the fully qualified name of the cluster class
    name = a descriptive name for your cluster, can be anything
    mcastAddr = the multicast address, has to be the same for all the nodes
    mcastPort = the multicast port, has to be the same for all the nodes
    mcastBindAddr = bind the multicast socket to a specific address
    mcastTTL = the multicast TTL if you want to limit your broadcast
    mcastSoTimeout = the multicast readtimeout
    mcastFrequency = the number of milliseconds in between sending a "I'm alive" heartbeat
    mcastDropTime = the number a milliseconds before a node is considered "dead" if no heartbeat is received
    tcpThreadCount = the number of threads to handle incoming replication requests, optimal would be the same amount of threads as nodes
    tcpListenAddress = the listen address (bind address) for TCP cluster request on this host,
    in case of multiple ethernet cards.
    auto means that address becomes
    InetAddress.getLocalHost().getHostAddress()
    tcpListenPort = the tcp listen port
    tcpSelectorTimeout = the timeout (ms) for the Selector.select() method in case the OS
    has a wakup bug in java.nio. Set to 0 for no timeout
    printToScreen = true means that managers will also print to std.out
    expireSessionsOnShutdown = true means that
    useDirtyFlag = true means that we only replicate a session after setAttribute,removeAttribute has been called.
    false means to replicate the session after each request.
    false means that replication would work for the following piece of code: (only for SimpleTcpReplicationManager)
    <%
    HashMap map = (HashMap)session.getAttribute("map");
    map.put("key","value");
    %>
    replicationMode = can be either 'pooled', 'synchronous' or 'asynchronous'.
    -->
    <!--
    When configuring for clustering, you also add in a valve to catch all the requests
    coming in, at the end of the request, the session may or may not be replicated.

    I have set the context path to /tdm in the server.xml file. Should this be placed in context.xml?
    My first page in the project is called Homepage.html. To start my project I give http://localhost:5050/tdm/homepage.html
    in a browser. Here I accept a username and password from the user and then do the validation in
    a valid.jsp file, where I connect to the database and check and use jsp:forward to go to next pages
    accordingly.
