Incomplete photobook - Travel Theme

We have just created a travel themed hardcover photo book, but unable to buy book due to
"+Your book seems to have frames on one or more pages that do not contain photos. You must either change the layout of those pages or place photos in those frames before you can buy this book.+"
We have tried to:
read the forums and tried the recommendations - failed
Altered the background - failed
Relaid out - failed
What else can we try
Thanks.

I had that problem, and found that on some layouts (a lot on the 2 photo layouts), one photo is the background, and the second photo is framed and pasted on top of the background photo. Check pages that have a large empty background. Maybe one of your backgrounds needs to have a photo added, (or change that page to a different layout).
Also a little yellow warning triangle appears on any pages that may have errors. So look for the warning sign. As you go along, that warning sign pinpoints an area that the program will not accept upon ordering.
(I had one frame where I wanted no picture, and had to post a picture of a black square in that space)

  • Travel Theme fault on 24" iMac

In iDVD when I use the Travel Theme supplied in iDVD 6 the Main Page in the theme has an issue. The dotted red line that should draw on the menu in circles does not appear when I have the DVD set to PAL, but it does in NTSC.
I have checked on my MacBook and it is fine on there.
I have also reinstalled iDVD and still no change.
    Does anyone else see this?
    Ian

    Hi Ian:
I really have no idea what is up with that. But, I would definitely try deleting the iDVD preference files before I tried anything drastic.
Locate a file named com.apple.iDVD.plist and get rid of it. iDVD will create a new one the next time it runs. Empty the trash and run a permissions repair with the disk utility.

  • Can't locate audio file for iDVD 6 Travel Theme

I have looked under Library/Application Support/iDVD/Installed Themes I find only folders for iDVD3, iDVD 4 and iDVD 5. No iDVD 6 there at all! I know I have iDVD 6 installed since I loaded iLife06 last week myself and can both see and hear the Travel Theme graphic and audio theme. Where can it be?
Once I find it, how do I get it into iTunes?
    eMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Yes! Tonight is the first time I've opened iDVD and that theme started playing. What a marvellous theme it is; it inspires me, sort of sets the level for what I should be shooting for in my scores. I love this kind of music.
And It Should Be Credited to the Appropriate Artist, Apple folks!
There is no mention anywhere of who wrote it (or any of the other audio tracks on any of the sample Themes). The clip seems to be called TravelCards, on which a google search produced information on the composer Simon Fisher Turner (aka SFT), with a CD called Travelcard, but I'll be damned if I can find a downloadable clip to listen to! Some of his stuff is in iTunes, but not this album. From the sound of his other work, however, it could be him. It also bears a bit of resemblance to the work of another British artist, Karl Jenkins (the "Diamond Music" composer, also a founding member of Soft Machine, one of the seminal bands from the 70's).
Whoever it is, I have listened to the sampled phrase over and over and over as it loops in my iDVD window beneath this one... and I haven't gotten tired of it yet! Please if anyone has any idea at all who wrote this, I'd love to know and hear more. Thanks!

  • Travel theme - best settings for drop in maps

I am using the Travel theme and really like the idea of putting custom maps into the opening and chapter markers in the themes. However, I am trying to work out the best 'settings' for maps so they show up best once filtered into the background.
For example, when I drop maps (that are predominantly white) into the opening credits they have made the overall shade of the background lighter (more cream than sepia) so you can clearly see their edges. Also, the contrast gets cut a lot so the maps look a lot more washed out than, for example, the map of Africa that is permanently in the opening credits.
Has anyone experimented with this and can they make any suggestions for what works best in terms of blending in with the pre-existing maps or otherwise looking the best once it is filtered by the theme?

Well - the best I found was using Mapquest maps. Guess that's the best...

  • Very pleased w/ "Travel Theme"  iPhoto Large Hardback Book

Yes, I am very pleased. Used iPhoto 5.0.4. Transmitted via a Disney (Orlando) Hotel ethernet at 3am. The connection was slow and I awoke to a dead battery...Yet very successful. No problems. Excellent quality of paper, printing, binding and packaging. Shipping was from California.
I had set DPI to 300 w/ prefsetter. I changed several fonts w/o problems.
I did not know about the potential page number option problem in the Travel Theme. (I did not even know there was an option.) I had several full bleeds. Again, no problems.
Maybe the bugs are out now. I hope no one hesitates to use the Travel theme.

  • Travel Theme Drop Zones

I burned a dvd with the travel theme main menu, and had about 5 or 6 drop zones. Filled these in with pictures (2 were background pictures), looked great. Just one month later, and no change in software, I am now creating another dvd, but this same travel theme now only has one drop zone. A lot less motion as well. I know I didn't make up the previous theme. I can play it back on my DVD. Any ideas how I get to the longer, more-drop-zone Travel theme menu? Thank you!
Message was edited by: Ken Hainsworth

Thanks for the reply. I wish I could show the larger drop-zone travel main menu to everyone. About 4 photos go by, with the red dotted lines swirling around, and then a stamp comes down to ink a passport stamp next to the final photo. This is bizarre: I have no idea why I can't find it just a month or two later. Does everyone else have a 1 drop-zone travel main menu?

  • Hopeful for soution to large travel theme book problems

If you search back through my old posts, you will see that I have been trying to print a 90 page travel themed book unsuccessfully for the last 6 months. Ultimately, the text would disappear in the latter pages of my books. Apple, of course, was useless in helping me solve this problem. I finally gave up when I got the following message "your order was cancelled for unknown reasons...please fix the problems and resubmit. So, on recommendation of many of you, I turned to sharedink.com to try to get my book printed. So far they have been easy to deal with and they actually answer the phone.
Here's the cool thing. Even with someone else willing to print my book, my pdf file was still missing text in the latter pages. So, I thought I would edit my pdf file and add the text back in. At this point, my book appears correctly on sharedink's site and it should print as shown. I'll let you know when I get my book next week.

Somewhat of a workaround. One user, Steve Porritt, found that he got more good pages by reducing the dpi from the 300 change that he had made. He eventually got all of the pages to show. Here is his post: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=1250583#1250583.
    Good luck.

  • Text won't show in Travel Theme

I have been reading through the forum and have seen similar problems, but not this exact one. I have created a medium book with 20-some pages, and when I click on "buy book", I am told that there is default text that has not yet been edited. When I preview the book (print preview), I see all of the text and photos I have entered as I want them - EXCEPT on the Introduction page, where it initially says "insert title", nothing shows up. (The default color for this text was grey for some reason, and even when I made it black, it didn't show up.)
    I still have iPhoto 5.0.4
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I get the same error message using iPhoto 5. I will try the print preview and see if any text appears. The warning says
"Your book appears to have default text that has not yet been edited. Printed books will not include this text. Do you want to continue with your order?"
This message is very difficult to search for. Yours is the only one I've found.

  • Changing size of a photobook

I created and ordered a medium (6" X 8") photobook using iPhoto '08 and am trying to order the same one in large (8 1'2" X 11"). It seems these large books are only available in portrait format and not landscape. Is there any way I can create this large book in landscape format? Also, when trying to get the page text/paragraphs to print in black, although I choose 'regular' from the settings screen, they still come out dk. grey ('light'). Any ideas??

    SMDK
Welcome to the Apple user to user assistance forums
AS I remember there are no portrait formats for iPhoto books - only landscape
TO change a book size select the book and go to the "themes" button and select the theme and 8 1/2 x 11 - you will get a warning that you may lose text but as long as you are using the same theme in just a different size you can ignore that warning
As to text color - in theory if you right click (control click) on a text block you can change the font attributes - I've personally not had much luck with that but play with it
I have only done travel theme books and all of my text is black

  • Can I have multiple themes on one DVD

I want to make a demo dvd and would like to feature several themes on one dvd. Is this possible and how?
    Thanks.

This seems to change the main theme though. I'd like to include several different themes on one dvd. Either have one main theme with submenus of different theme examples or figure out a way to encapsulate each theme, but I still think that would have to be linked to a main menu. I want to be able to demonstate to a client, say, the travel theme and then the scrapbooking theme, then maybe the the watercolor theme, etc. all on one dvd. Thanks.

  • Themes / Ken Burns effects don't render, Transitions and Video FX do render

Topic pretty much says it all. I'm working on some family vacation videos, and thought it might be nice to apply some travel themes to some sections of the video.
The red "rendering" bar that's supposed to crawl along the bottom as it's rendering, and then disappear when done, is dark red, and never fills with the bright red indicating that it's actually rendering the clip.
iMovie's at the latest version (6.0.3), and I've tried this with a number of projects, with no luck. Transitions and video effects work like a peach, so it's just something with themes and the ken burns effect on pictures.
I've deleted the imovie.plist, and repaired permissions.
I should also note, the preview, when dropping clips onto the drop zone(s), display's properly. As does the ken burns effect when setting up it's duration. It's when you apply the settings, and it drops the clip onto the timeline to start rendering it, that's where we hit a snag.
This is on the internal drive, Mac Extended (Journaled) format, there's about 40GB free space. I've emptied both the system, and iMovie trash. I've tried deleting the FontCollections folder.
I'm just rambling off suggestions I've tried from the various threads I've been gleaning in hopes of finding a solution to this.
When I started these projects, I chose DV Widescreen, as everything I film with my DV camcorder (Panasonic PVGS59) is set to widescreen.
I've even tried manually splitting the clips, so that the part(s) I want "themed" are only as long as the theme duration, hoping maybe it was choking on a longer clip (say around 1 to 2 minutes), when all it needed for the theme was about 4-10 seconds. Exact same thing, dark red "rendering" bar, but no bright red bar showing how the rendering is progressing.
I've dug through about 32 pages so far, still going and not finding anything that's actually helping. It seems though my issue is quite similar to others', it's unique as nothing that's worked for others is working for me.

Hi, Nice to be here, despite the problems!
Last night I reinstalled iMovie from the recovery disk and even manually deleted all plugins and prefs beforehand. It didn't make any difference in either my account or a new user account I set up. I repaired all the disk permissions again and also once again deleted the iMovie plist, all to no avail.
I had a software update flagged on Monday night (which I downloaded), the problem has only been since then. The other software flagged for download included a battery update and a SuerpDrive firmware update. The SuperDrive update seems to fail to operate. It would try to run it on startup but would advise that the program could find a device to update? Strange. I deleted the .pkg and also the program from nmy startup items.
So, with the version of iMovie rolled back to the original one off the recovery disk, I would have hoped that it would have started to work, which it hasn't! I subsequently searched for software updates and added a couple, one at a time to see if that would help (restarting every time). That didn't work either!
What on earth is there left to do, despite a full reinstall of Mac OSX?!
I wonder if this is an emerging problem following the latest seemingly recent software update for iMovie?

  • Fonts used in the apple themes?

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone knows exactly what font Apple uses in their various new iMovie 06 themes. I would like to keep the font constant through my whole movie, but I can't seem to find the same font.
I am particularly looking for the Reflection - White font, but I would like a full list for future reference.
    Thanks!

    Sorry Karl:
Warning: Make a Copy BEFORE doing anything with these files.
Yes, I know, you would, Karl
The Quartz Composer IS the QC I mean. Inside the Theme packages are Quartz Composer compositions (.qtz files).
Inside the Theme packages/Content/Resources/ are some .qtz files.
For example, in the Travel Theme, is the file Bumper1.qtz.
In QC open this file and in the Editor Click on the Hierarchy Browser button.
Drill down to the 2nd 3D Transformation.
Scroll to find the "Image With String" Patch. Patches are the boxes with wires coming and going.
Click on the Image With String patch and then click on the Inspector Button at the top of the QC Editor.
In the Inspector, Choose the "Input Parameters" tab. In there you should see a field with the Font-Name for this particular element. (Baskerville-SemiBold)
Choose the Settings Pane and you should see a popup with the name "Set Font Name Input". You can select a different font there.
In the Viewer window, click on the open tool bar button and then click on the Gear button. A panel will slide down and in there you will see a few parameters, one being the Title 1 edit field. In the viewer window, you should see the text "Title 1" in whatever face you have chosen. If you type in a different title, you will see that as well.
There is much much more fascinating exploring to be done but I must leave some of that up to you...
Make sure that you are doing this with a copy because iMovie may not like you messing around with its innards. And, if you have a copy of the original, you can always restore it.
Cheers, and please let me know how you make out.

  • HOW DO I USE DEFAULT THEME MUSIC & SAVING

Hello from Italy. My question does concern the default theme music for the travel theme. I realize this is a bit off subject but I am new to this board and can't figure out how to enter a new topic. Perhaps you can help me. I actually would like use that default theme music on my first iDVD. It fits. Can I do that? If so, how? Do I need to save it in iTunes? If so, how can I do that? The other problem I have is that when I try to burn a DVD my eMac goes through the entire process and in the end indicates a "multiplexing problem" so I do not get a DVD. Is there a simple way to save all my work whether or not I actually burn the DVD right now? Right now I lose it all when I shut down for the night. Grazie mille.
    eMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I actually would like use that default theme music on my first iDVD
I'm assuming that you want the theme music for your slideshoww too, correct?
You can find most of the theme elements inside the theme files. They are in /Library/Application Support/iDVD/Themes
Control-click on one of these files and choose "Show Package Contents" Then keep looking inside those folders to find sound files. In the iDVD6 "travel" theme, I think the sound is "TravelAudio.m4a" Darg this into iTunes for use in other iLife projects.
The other problem I have is that when I try to burn a DVD my eMac goes through the entire process and in the end indicates a "multiplexing problem" so I do not get a DVD.
    1) Try to have at least 20GB of free space on your startup drive.
    2) Check your audio settings on the DV tape you used. iDVD needs 16 bit (not 12 bit) audio. Or go go back to iMovie and "extract audio" whcih moves the audio from the video onto a separate track.
    3) Check your chapter markers (CMs) in iMovie - no CM at the beginning, iDVD will add one for you. no CMs within 2 secs of each other or transitions.
    4) Try a different theme - they can be "corrupted" and cause problems.
    5) Fonts - try going to "Font Book" in your applications folder, and resolve duplicate fonts.
Tell us more about your project - how long, how did you make the movies slideshows, etc. Have you ever used iDVD before successfully?

  • Themes not rendering

    Hi.
I just tried iMovie 6's themes, and none of them seems to render.
Preview is fine, but when applying (=validating) the themed clip, it just does not work :
    - the clip in the timeline appears with the "original" photos attached to the theme, not the one I added from the iPhoto library
    - there is no rendering at all happening of the themed clip
    - when previewing frames from the themed clip, frames appear black.
I checked these forums fro answers and could not make it work.
Here are a few things I checked/ tried:
    - movie projects are stored in my home folder in the internal, journaled-HFS+ formatted startup drive
    - I removed all Quicktime plug-ins (checked both user and computer folders), including flip4mac, divx, perian, as well a the A52 audio component; I just had to re-add some in order to iMovie to start properly (AppleHDVCodec.component, AppleIntermediateCodec.component and DesktopVideoOut.component)
    - I reinstalled iMovie from the MBP's install DVDs and re-ran the 6.0.3 updater.
This behaviour happens on my MacBook Pro and my Mac Mini Core Duo.
On the MBP, I had FCP (Universal binary) installed, but removed some of its assets and apps because my HD was full.
iMovie 6 (and themes) works very well on my girlfriend's brand new black MacBook, although I also installed Flip4Mac, perian and A52 codec).
I had never uses themes before and am just very disappointed, not being able to use them, now that I've discovered them (they're great for making movies out of photos).
Of course, in a few weeks, iMovie 7 will problaby be out and I'll buy it.
But I'd really like to solve (as well as understand) this problem with iMovie 6 first.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jérôme.

    In response to Sue's post,
Quicktime and QuickTime Player versions are 7.1.3.
I know I miss the latest Final Cut Studio updates (haven't used it recently) but I thought that would not change a thing if I disable QuickTime plug-ins anyway.
My serial number is at home and necessary to download the latest Final Cut updates.
If you think that could be important, I will do it tonight.
Here is what happens with themes in iMovie.
    - I create a new movie (HDV 720p) in my Movies folder
    - I choose the travel theme and the Lower Third template. The template loads and previews in the main window
    - I drag a photo from the media/Photos/iPhoto panel to the drop zone ; the template now previews in the main window with the photo I chose (which seems like normal behaviour)
-When I click the checkbox in the preview window on the far right, a new clip is added to the timeline (which again seems normal)
However, the clip is not normal :
    - its thumbnail in the timeline is strictly identical to the theme/template thumbnail : the photo I chose does and dragged to the drop zone does not appear
    - I cannot play the clip, and the play button is dimmed
    - Any frame of the clip I preview, by dragging the playhead, is black (no theme, no photo)
    - The clip appears as unrendered, with a red line under it. That line never moves.
    - When I try to save, I get a warning about a "rendering in progress". that is after 1 hour, a 5 seconds theme/template, and a standard 5 Megapixels JPEG photo
    - If I "stop rendering", save the project, close it then reopen it, the clip is gone.
That happens also with a 400*400 JPEG photo.
Hope that is clearer for you Karl.
If necessary, I can post screen captures of this -iPhoto and iWeb still work
    Thanks in advance,
    Jerome.

  • IPhoto '09 book themes

    Hey everyone,
Just wanted to let you know that I've updated my web site of iPhoto book theme descriptions to reflect the changes in iPhoto '09: http://www.lizcastro.com/iphotobookthemes
There you can find descriptions and examples for every single layout in every single iPhoto book theme. Most of the new stuff is about maps and the Travel theme, though there are minor changes in every theme.
You can still find information about iPhoto '08 themes as well.
    Hope you find it useful!
    best,
    Liz

Thank you so much for all of your work - your site makes planning a book (and sometimes trouble shooting one) so much easier
    Now on to calendars
One minor comment (so far) there is no iPhoto '07 - it went from iPhoto 6 to iPhoto '08 (version 7.x.x) to iPhoto '09 (version 8.x.x) just to see how carefully people pay attention
