Incomplete text for variables in BPS selection

Hi
We are using BW 3.5 and BPS layout in Taiwan language.
When person looks for selection variable options for an object the text is not complete , it only shows first two characters however if we go to text table of BW object it has complete data of 3 characters ( these are taiwainese characters).
Any idea on same ?

hi...check on the query designer, how the infoobject for that variable has been defined (there are 4 options like Key, Key/text etc).

if i under stan your requirement correctly, need to have both text and key values for variables with F4 help.
you need to chnage the properties of that infoobject at infoobjects level or at infoprovider level,
this is at infoprovider level
in RSA1-> go to change mode of infoprovider (Multiprovider/ cube) on which Query is build) then Expand Charecteristc Dimension -> select infoobject -> right -> select provider-specific properties -> select Display '0 Key and Text' . Activate infoprovider and Run Query and check the Selection screen.

Report is by defualt picking up short text for variable selection screen.

Hi Madhav,
The BEx query setting made in infoobject can be overwritten by the settings made in the query .
You need to select Long Text in the query for that characteristic.
This setting will overwrite whatever is made in the info object level and so make will diplay the long text.

Master data needs to be appeared for variables in BPS

Hi everyone,
I am working in BW-BPS environment. We have to create a variable on the Company Code infoobject in the planning area. When a user wants to enter the value for the variable 0COMP_CODE, all the master data values should appear. But in the replacement type for a variable doesn't contain this option.
So please let me know how to achieve this requirement. If USER Exit needs to be seleted, then let me know the procedure to implement the same.
Also we are using a Flat file to input the values into BPS environment. Currently I am using the Tab Deleimited Text file to do the same. But the user want .CSV file as input. So is there any way to convert the file?
The user will input the Planned amount in local currency, & we have implemented a Currency Translation Planning function in the Planning Environment. Once the data has been loaded thru flat file the user should execute the planning function & save the data to persistently store the data in the Real time infocube. Here user wants the Currency translation function to be hide & the currency conversion should happen automatically when the user saves the data he entered.

Related to variable: if you want to show for selection ALL master data simply create variable with type "Characteristic Value". Attach characteristic to your variable. Set "Replacement Type" = fixed value and in "Selection Conditions" set "From" = 000000 (accoding to lenght of characteristic) and "To" = ZZZZZZZ. This will give you all master data in variable.
Related to currency convertion: create function type "currency convertion" and add it to global planning sequence. Run this planning seq according to your needs and execution of conversio will be in background.

Enabling Key and text for the Variable Selection screen

I need to display key and text for a characteristic when selecting the drop down menu in the variable selection screen of a web report. In the Business Explorer tab within the info-object, I changed the General Settings to display Key and text, but when I open the drop down menu for this characteristic, it is still displaying the key only. Is there some other place where this change needs to happen?

Text in variable selection

I have an user entry variable on infoobject, when we run the report on web , on the variable screen , to select the values of the variable/infoobject only key is displayed but the description is not.
Though in the properties its made key and text for the infoobject.( in the query result i can see both key and text)
I need to display both the value and its description( to let the end User the choose the values on the variable screen.
Any suggestions?

You can take a look at note 1080863. As of stack 14 this is no longer possible on the variable selection screen. You will have to make the changes using the InfoObject maintenance under the Business Explorer tab. Change Display to what you want your end users to see in the Selection Screen. Once you run the query the settings button is there and you can select between key and text again.

Text Variable error "No value could be determined for variable " Brain 632

I want to display current fiscal period as description in the colomn of a query.
Ex. If current fiscal period is 005.2009 in the colomn it should display 2009005
For that I have created a text variable.(Is it correct to create a text variable for this?)
But it gives me following error.

I assume that your requirement is suppose a user enter a date as 01/12/2010 - 31/12/2010 in the selection screen then he should get the data for this range in one keyfigure and 01/11/2010 - 31/11/2010
For this requirement you have to create one customer exit variable on calendar day :
I have taken into account only the two values .
Important is to take into account what if a month has 31 days and previous month has 30 days.
The user exit will trow an error in this case .
You need to handle this in the code .

How to programatically select text for editing in an af:inputText control?

Hello, I am new to jdeveloper 11.1.1.3.0 and have searched and searched for info. I must be using the wrong terms as I cannot find any info or example on how to programatically select text for editing in an inputText field.
My request is to change an existing app so when the user presses a button, control should go to the inputText control (this part works, see existing backing bean code from another developer below) but automatically select the text within for editing by the user (saving the user from having to select the text first before editing).

not a dumb question at all. Before answering it, here some comments on the code you pasted in your question
1. UIComponent uiComponent = facesContext.getViewRoot().findComponent(componentId);
This code line is not used at all in your method. So it seems you can get rid of it
2. "Component = AdfPage.PAGE.findComponentByAbsoluteId('" + componentId + "'); Component.focus();");
I suggest to change it to
"var component = AdfPage.PAGE.findComponentByAbsoluteId('" + componentId + "'); component.focus();");
as it is better coding practice to have variable names starting with a lower case letter and being flagged with the "var" identifier
For pre-selecting text in an an input component, there is no API available in ADF Faces, which means you need to reach out to the rendered HTML ouput. To access the markup for the rendered component, you can try
var markup = AdfRichUIPeer.getDomContentElementForComponent(component)
If this markup returns the HTML input component then you can use JavaScript you find on the Internet to select the area of it. If it does not return the input component then you may have to use
document.getElementById(componentId+'::content')
Note however that working directly with generated HTML output bears the risk that your code breaks when - for whatever reason - the ADF Faces component rendering changes in the future

How to use bind variable value for table name in select statement.

I am having tough time to use value of bind variable for table name in select statement. I tried &p37_table_name. ,
:p37_table_name or v('p37_table_name) but none worked.
Following is the sql for interactive report:
select * from v('p37_table_name') where key_loc = :P37_KEY_LOC and
to_char(inspection_dte,'mm/dd/yyyy') = :P37_INSP_DT AND :p37_column_name is not null ;
I am setting value of p37_table_name in previous page which is atm_state_day_insp.
Following is error msg:
"Query cannot be parsed, please check the syntax of your query. (ORA-00933: SQL command not properly ended) "

Interestingly enough I always had the same impression that you had to use a function to do this but found out from someone else that all you need to do is change the radio button from Use Query-Specific Column Names and Validate Query to Use Generic Column Names (parse query at runtime only). Apex will substitute your bind variable for you at run-time (something you can't normally do in pl/sql without using dynamic sql)

Text for block and select option on the selection screen of Logical Databas

I have copied a standard program (RFBELJ10) which is making use of LDB (BRF) and created a custom program. Now, the requirement is to add a selection screen option to the custom report and do some validation on the data extracted. I have added the select option and provided a text (lets say "Segment") to it using menu path Goto --> Text Elements --> Selection Texts and activated. But this text is not displayed on the screen when i execute the report. It is showing the string which i used while defining the select option.
Also i need to provide a frame and title to it. but its not displayed.
i have written the following code for that:
SELECTION-SCREEN: BEGIN OF BLOCK seg WITH FRAME TITLE text-h01. " Segment
SELECT-OPTIONS: s_segmnt FOR faglflexa-segment. " Segment
SELECTION-SCREEN: END OF BLOCK seg.

Solved the problem. I have maintained the text in German. So, when I execute the report in english, it is not displaying the text. I have translated the texts to English and is working fine now.

Can I change the select option text for pnp ldb ?

I am using a pnp logical database in my report and I have created my own hr category because i wanted to use field ename from the ldb in the selection screen. Now the problem with ename is I cant do a case sensitive search.
So I have replaced it with sname, so now my screen has sname instead of ename, however I want to change the selection text for select option ( at present it is 'EE name can be sorted' )

Filter value for variable selection screen

This could be a tricky or an easy question, but it seems too hard for me !
I'm storing version in my cube, and have a report which shows informations for the version you select (with a variable = ZVERSION01).
ex : Version :
V01
V02
V03
V04
When report is executed i have my variable selection screen (for variable ZVERSION01) which give all version [V01 -> V04]. But i want users have no access to version V01 & V02.
Variable ZVERSION01 is "single selection", i tried to filter with Default Values screen or Characteristic Restriction screen but it doesn't work.
ex : caracterisitic restriction screen : VERSION = !V01 / !V02
default value screen : variable VERSION = ZVERSION01

Hi,
In BI 7.0 there is Anaylysis authorisation RSECADMIN transaction. That you can use here or normal role concept will also do.
What you need to do is grant authorisation to the users for V03 and 04 version only and create 'Authorisation' type variable on version in the query. (type of variable - it asks while creating the variable). This way users will only be able to see authorised versions only.
Note you have to make version infoobject as Authorisation relevent infoobject. ( in infoobject properties).

Selection option for variable entry in BEx in 2004s

Hi All,
Have any of you noticed that the selection option functionality for variable entry while creating a variable does not allow wild card entry,Even though you create the variable with selection option as input.
In 3.5 we had option the option "contains the pattern " but in 2004s its not available in the variable entry screen.

When I posted this thread we were upgrading to SP11, now I am in the middle of another upgrade (SP15) and I still notice that wild card option is yet to be made available for a variable of type selection option.
Back then I had sent a message to SAP and was told that the functionality would be rolled out in new SP's. I am very curious as too how others are handling this problem, as they are bound to be reports for which such variables are a must.
P.S - The option has been made available
