Inconsistent primary key naming conventions

When I create a primary key directly be marking an attribute as primary key the name for the primary key constraint gets a "_pk" suffix. When I create a primary key be adding a identifying foreign key relationship to the entity the name for the primary key constraint gets a "pk_" prefix. Why is this different and how can I stop it?

Hi,
I dont think these are std.. I have not seen this earlier..
Where did you see these posting keys

  • Named query, primary keys must not contain null

We have an question on the named query. Here is the scenario:
Class JoinClassC (id, name, desc, comment) is mapped to two tables Join_Table_A (id, name, description) and Join_Table_B (id, name, comments); Join_Table_A is the primary table; two tables are associated via primary key.
Defined a named query (findByName, ReadAllQuery/SQL) for JoinClassC descriptor. The sql is:
    SELECT a.ID,a.NAME,a.DESCRIPTION,b.COMMENTS FROM JOIN_TABLE_A a, JOIN_TABLE_B b WHERE a.NAME=#name AND a.ID=b.ID AND a.NAME=b.NAME
Getting QueryException while executing the query. Here is the trace:

Adding b.ID to the sql select will solve the problem.
Question: does the primary key must be present in the sql select to run this kind of query? Any way to work around the restriction?
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
    Haiwei

The problem is that you need to select both primary keys for the multiple table descriptor.
    i.e.
    SELECT a.ID,a.NAME,a.DESCRIPTION,b.ID, b.COMMENTS FROM JOIN_TABLE_A a, JOIN_TABLE_B b WHERE a.NAME=#name AND a.ID=b.ID AND a.NAME=b.NAME
Your SQL needs to return the same data that TopLink would have selected, which includes the primary key for both tables. TopLink expects both a.ID and b.ID fields in the select, because your only select one and the field names are the same TopLink thought the ID field was for b.ID not a.ID, if you select both it will be ok.

  • Inconsistent naming conventions for Adobe Reader in software scan

I just want to see if anyone knows why Adobe's free pdf Reader appears both as "Adobe Reader" AND "Adobe Acrobat Reader". I manage software licenses for an organization of 400+, and it's difficult to know if, for instance Adobe Acrobat - Reader 6.0.2 Update - 6.0.2, should or should not be counted as a purchased license without actually visiting each workstation to verify. I've spoken with our network operations personnel and they confirmed that it is not manually entered by our personnel, but that it is something in the software. ??
Furthermore, why are the naming conventions not consistent even among those that can be identified easily? The list below is what I see when I run a report for all Adobe software on our network.

    Junlie et al,
Starting with Acrobat 9 (announced on 6/2/08), Adobe will support the new ISO/IEC 19770-2 standard for universal software tagging. The new standard will allow customers to correctly identify the name, version, type and licensing status of Adobe software (starting with the Acrobat 9 family and later on as new versions of the products are introduced later this and next year).
I DO understand your frustration with the in consistencies in the naming of our software, but the problem of software discovery goes well beyond our lack of discipline. This is one of the many reasons why Adobe invested time and effort with the industry group defining the new open standard, and in software asset management in general.
More information about tagging standard can be found here: http://www.agnitioadvisors.com/info/content/view/44/1/

  • Null value in detail table's primary key

I use Business Components Data Form to define a master-detail java panel.
I don't display the primary key column in the detail grid control.
Then I click on "+" to add a row, enter a value (the 2nd part of the detail table's primary key) and click commit.
I get an error saying that the primary key column that's not displayed is null and the row cann't be committed.
How do I fix this error?

    My fields are varchar2's.

    from detail_values;
    end;
-- detail.status is a comboboxControl getting --its values of of another db table too.
-- there's also "after update" triggers on master and detail tables that copy the record to master_history and "detail_history" tables if the corresponding table is modified. Thus we have a history of the changes made to the records. The 2 history tables have 2 additional fields than their parents, "modified_date date default sysdate not null" and "modified_by varchar2(30) default user not null" that record when and who made the change. There's also a change type field that records where the change is an insert, delete or update (there 3 triggers per table , so we can correctly record change type as being insert, delete or update into the change_type field).
If you want to make it more real to life, the status value is initially blank, then can be changed to a legal status value (complete or not complete), but can not be changed back to blank.
***P.S. I have to have this ready for production by monday.****
P.P.S After you reply and change to ComboBoxControls in 2 places, try changing the table names and/or the column names (say to follow the DBA's naming convention) or add another field to the composite primary key (and unstated foriegn key) (using drop table/create table). Now try getting the existing code to run. No writing down the old/new table (or column) name pair names. Just run the code and try to fix the code based on the error messages. Are the error messages giving you adequate information to find the problem?

  • Data Modeler - Naming Conventions

I was using Oracle Designer for several year.
This product could drive you crazy because sometimes, but the strength was in my opinion the datamodelling part.
It saved you a lot of time because you kept stuck to the logical model generated your relational model and had all scripts satisfying all naming conventions you needed.
In Data Modeler i really miss the naming conventions and can't understand some parts, sometimes somebody here can help me if i have overseen something or it is just not implemented.
    Naming conventions as example:
    We work with surrogate keys.
Two well known tables - Employees (abbreviation EMP), Departments (abbreviation DEP)
They have one relation 1:N one department has many employees
In Designer i would define the EMPLOYEE entity, would set the table-abbreviation, the attributes and the primary key.
The same with DEPARTMENT. I would design it WITHOUT any column for the foreign key constraint.
Then i would create a relation between this two tables.
Last step is to generate the relational model.
    a) Designer automatically adds ID as surrogate key on every table (you could configure that, it was dependent on a domain)
    b) it automatically adds the table abbreviation as prefix on every column (even here it's configurable)
    c) it automatically adds the a foreign key column in the child table with the prefix of the master table (f.e. EMP_DEP_ID or DEP_ID if you prefer not to prefix every column... what i do)
It was really easy to get your scripts.
Things i don't understand in Data Modeler:
In a logical model you should design entities, attributes and relations and don't mess around with FK-columns.
Is there any support for surrogate keys? I don't wanna add an ID manually with every table.
In Data Modeler an additional COLUMN(!) is added with every Foreign key relation, i could live with that, but there is no way to tell
Data Modeler to prefix it automatically. The name can just be changed in the Relational View afterward.
    P.S.
Surrogate Keys.... There are some pros and cons for/against this out there. I have seen a lot of Oracle Projects and in all except one i always had a surrogate key column. It really makes life
easier. In the one no-surrogate-key-project we began to add surrogate keys after a while...

COLUMN(!) is added with every Foreign key relation, i could live with that, but there is no way to tell
Data Modeler to prefix it automaticallyLook at "General options>Naming Standard>templates" - you can define template for FK columns/attributes and then apply them for whole relational/logical model using "Apply Naming .." functionality from pop-up menu in the browser. For Logical model (FK attributes) - you also need to clear related setting at "General options>Logical>Keep as the name of originating attribute".
Templates are also used when objects are created, thus when new FK is created, then templates are used to generate name for foreign key and FK columns. Well you have to define table and column abbreviation in order to get them used in generated names - Re: Data Modeler: Naming
There is no support for surrogate keys in current release.

  • Can you make a key with delete cascade when there is no primary key?

I have a table with a primary key, and also a field called 'tpid', which is sometimes null, and sometimes has an integer value in it. This integer value corresponds a primary key in another table, and that key is also called tpid.
I would like the following to happen.
If a row in table 1 is deleted, and it has a tpid that is not null, then I want the corresponding row in the second table to be deleted too.
I think a trigger could be written to do this, but it would be better if a foreign key constraint with cascade delete could be used.
One reason that is better is that whenever I script out my database, triggers seem to be left out by default, unless I specifically ask that they not be..
So can this be done - where column in table 1 has some nulls, and is not a primary key, but when its deleted, you want to delete a matching row in a table where it IS a primary key.
    Thanks,
    Gideon

Please post DDL, so that people do not have to guess what the keys, constraints, Declarative Referential Integrity, data types, etc. in your schema are. Learn how to follow ISO-11179 data element naming conventions and formatting rules. Temporal data should
use ISO-8601 formats. Code should be in Standard SQL as much as possible and not local dialect.
This is minimal polite behavior on SQL forums.
    >> I have a table with a PRIMARY KEY, <<
That is redundant. Table has a key by definition, but the fact that you said it this way tells us you have a high level of ignorance.
    >> .. and also a field [sic] called “tp_id”, which is sometimes NULL, and sometimes has an integer value in it. <<
Yep! Wrong again! A column is not anything like a field. The only place “field” is use in SQL is for {year, month, day, hour, minute, second} in temporal values.
    >> This integer value corresponds a PRIMARY KEY in another table, and that key is also called tp_id. <<
NO, NO, NO! A key is never NULL by definition. It cannot be NULL in your un-named second table. Where is the DDL? Why do you have manners of a pig?
I will guess, since we have no clear specs from you, that you want to replace the NULL with a dummy value that can be used with DRI actions.
Would you like to give us enough information to help you?

    yours sincerley

    I use
    PK_ for primary keys
    UK_ for unique keys
IX_ for non clustered non unique indexes
    UX_ for unique indexes
    Also recommended naming conventions
    PKC_ Primary Key, Clustered

  • NULL in primary keys NOT logged to exceptions table

Problem: Inconsistent behavior when enabling constraints using the "EXCEPTIONS INTO" clause. RDBMS Version: 9.2.0.8.0 and 10.2.0.3.0

I would have expected all constraint violations to be logged to exceptions. I was not able to find any documentation describing the behavior I describe above.
Can anyone tell me if this is the intended behavior and if so, where it is documented?
I would also appreciate it if others would confirm this behavior on their systems and say if it is what they expect.

  • How to add a new data element for existing table filed(Primary key field)

    Hi Experts,
How to add a new data element for existing table field(Primary key field)
For this filed ther is no foreign key relation ships and even check table.
while activating table it is giving message like below.
can you help any one to solve this and wil steps to add new dataelement for existing primary key filed of a table.
    Check table (NAMING SPACE/TABLE NAME(EX:/TC/VENDOR)) (username/19.02.10/03:29)
Primary key change not permitted for value table /TC/VENDOR
Check on table  /TC/VENDOR resulted in errors
    Thanks
    Ravi

    Hi,
Easiest way is to download the table eg into an Excel table (if possible) or text table. Drop the table from the database. Build your table with the new key field. Build the database table again and fill it.
You can do it also over the database into a new table. Drop the old one. Build the enhanced one and fill it. Afterwards drop your (temporary) table.
Maybe there are other ways, but this works.
    Success,
    Rob

  • How to change the source type for a primary key on a form?

    Hi,
At the time of creating a form, I had set the source type for the primary key to an existing sequence.
Now I want to change the source to a trigger.
Can anyone suggest how to do it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Annie

    Annie:
Define the trigger and then delete the page process named 'Get PK'

  • Deploying BMP Entity Bean with primary key calss

    Hi,
I am using EJB 2.0 with and websphere studio 5.0 and database is sql server 2000.
My BMP Entity bean has a primary key class. From my client I am invoking the Entity Bean by calling it's findbyprimarykey method.
The home interface of my findbyprimarykey method returns a class of type Remote. But in the Entity Bean class, the return type is the primarykey class type.
My problem is invoking this findbyprimarykey from the client to get the remote interface so that the other business methods of the entity bean can be called.
The control goes into the ejbFindbyPrimaryKey but when it is returing from the Entity Bean class,it gives a remote exception (as the return type in Entity Bean class and Home interface are different for the findbyprimarykey method).
I think that somewhere in the deployment decriptor in my websphere,i have to specify the primarykey class type, which i am missing out and hence getting the error.
Please help me out with your advice and solution.
    Thanks

  • Problems Engineering Surrogate Primary Key with Unique Key

SDDM 3.3.0.747 with 2 problems (at least so far).  I am hoping that the problem is with this SDDM rookie and I have overlooked some setting. PROBLEM 1 I don’t want to start a religious debate about surrogate vs. natural keys but I am having a problem engineering both correctly from the logical model.  I am a rookie when it comes to SDDM but have many years of experience with Designer. By default I like to have both a natural UID  (UK) and a surrogate key based primary UID (PK) which is used for foreign keys.  The problem I am having with engineering is I can successfully engineer the surrogate PK’s, engineer the FK’s using the PK’s but cannot get the unique key to contain the surrogate keys in the child table.  If I check the identifying property in the relations, the PK columns and the UK columns are included in the child PK and the UK contains no columns. The Setup I have defined two reference entities, PROBABILITY and SEVERITY with natural unique keys defined.  I also have a child entity RISK_ASSESMENT with relationships back to the PROBABILITY and SEVERITY entities and both have the “Use surrogate keys:”: check box checked.  The unique key for the RISK_ASSESMENT entity includes the relationships back to PROBILITY and SEVERITY.  None of the entities have a PK or surrogate key defined and they all have the “Create Surrogate Key” check box checked.  In addition the following preferences are set: Data Modeler/Model/Logical   NOT Checked - Use And Set First Unique Key As Primary Key   NOT Checked – Name – Keep as the name of the Originating attribute   Checked – Entity Create Surrogate Key   Checked – Relationship Use Surrogate Key PROBLEM 2 When the foreign key columns are engineered I want the names to have a prefix “FK_” but they don’t.  Templates are set as follows: Data Modeler/Naming Standard/Templates   Foreign Key:  FK_{child}{parent}   Column Foreign Key:  FK_{ref column} Engineer to Relational Model/General Options   Checked - Apply name translation Marcus Bacon

I have been switching between SD 4 EA1 and SDDM 3.3 trying to get things to work and trying out the template table for adding audit columns (really nice!).
Concerning Problem1.  No matter what settings I use and whether I use SDDM 3.3 or SDI cannot get the FK columns to be included in the UK even though the relations are included in the UID in the entitty.  When I open the properties of the child table and click on the naming standards button and click ok it complains that the UK is not complete.  I add the FK columns to the UK and all is well including the naming standards.
Concerning Problem 2.  Sometimes it engineers the names for FK's from the template and sometimes it doesn't.  Didn't see a pattern.  Gave up trying and used Naming Standards button.  I still had to change a few.
The good new is, that after make changes needed in UK's and Column names of 18 tables, I know have everything deployed to Test except FK Indexes.  I think I have to do those by hand.
