Incorrect colours swatches and conversions

I am working for a business and have come up with a range of colours for our business style sheet.
We are now creating a style range based on rgb but taking the hex values from the conversion. We are using the the rgb values firstly as some colours which are grey. This ensures there are no red in them. eg: 33 33 33 then the hex value #212121.
WE are both using PS - RBGAdobe 1998 and monitor RGB in the proof setup. We are both using the same imported colour .aco swatch.
When my work collegue imports the colour swatches she sees the correct values, however my computer is changing the vaules and I don't understand why????
Any explanations????

I agree with teh prevous poster. You are doing something wrong with your color management most likely, but your terminology really is unclear and vague. Sounds like you are trying to produce web colors, for which no color management is even required.

  • Where are my colour swatches and stroke choices

I have a big problem with Illustrator and it happens all the time. I have made a pattern and although it works fine I now have no colours in my swatches just the patterns and my line choices for strokes is now limited to one choice. If I open a new doc the default materials are back and line choices. It's obviously a preference somewhere but I haven't the foggiest idea where to find it. It's very frustrating because I can't reset to the defaults and I can't append colours to the swatches or append new strokes to the line choices.
Can someone tell me how to get this working as I am lost

  • Custom colour swatches and analysing a photo

    hi!
    i have two questions.
what i want to do is taking pictures of my patients teeth with a neutral grey on the photo to get the white balance right.
then i would like to analyse areas of the photo.
i was told that it is possible to generate a palette of colours and use a tool to point on different areas of the photo and ps shows me to which of my colours of the custom palette the area i point at is closest to (i want to identify the tooth colour of a patient).
could anyone tell me how to do this?

  • RGB CMYK PDF EXPORT.(colour conversion)  Keeping your colours vibrant and your blacks black.

Ive been tearing my hair out for the best part of 14 hours trying to figure out how to keep the closest possible conversion for working with images(rgb in photoshop) right the way through a work flow until exporting to print (having used the image in Indesign).  Here is the process I have been trying to get right.
    1) working with RGB photo images in photoshop and converting them to CMYK (whilst holding on to as much colour as poss)
    2) Importing them to Indesign and retaining the correct colours while working with them)
    3) Exporting to high quality print and having all your colours stay 100% the same as you saw them within indesign.
I believe I have the solution so I posted my settings below to see if its the best way of doing things and to help others who might be having the same problems.
    The problem
The problem is that there are many different colour models/profiles (both in RGB and CMYK) and each program can effect how the next one handles and stores colour.  It can become frustrating knowing where to go in order to set the settings correctly  as the combination of things to consider can make it confusing.
I understand many other people have similar problems and finding RGB blacks come out as grey.  CMYK spaces get converted from one type to another either from one program to the next or even as things move around one program (causing all sorts of wonderful, colour errors)  Plus you have imported colour profiles, working colour profiles and export profiles.  All of which can interact and effect each other) So getting it all consistent is key other wise colours change and get washed out.   Especially vibrant colours like greens and blues. they fade etc.
Through sheer trial and error and perciverance I found a combination of settings that worked well for me.
Since I am not an expert I wanted to post up my settings to:
    1) see if this is the best way of doing things.
    2) Other people may find them useful if they had the same problems I had,
    The Solution
    In photoshop
Save the photoshop image in CMYK by selecting:
    Edit > Convert to prfile.
    (in destination space)
select: Euroscale Coated v2   (I think this holds the colours the truest of all CMYK colour formats.)
    (in conversion options)
      - Engine: Adobe ACE
      - Intent: Perceptual.
      - Check Use black point Compensation.
    (leave all else unchecked)
Save the image ready to place in indesign (place rather than copy and paste.).
    In Indesign
edit > colour settings   (make sure you click on the advanced tick box to open more options)
      - Working space: =
      - RGB:  sRGB IEC....
      - CMYK Euroscale coated v2
      - RGB & CMYK convert to working space.
      - Engine Adobe ACE
      - Perceptual
      - Use black point compensation
    edit > Assign profiles
      - RGB profile. > Assign current workspace: sRGB IE
      - CMYK > Assign current work space Euroscale Coated V2
      - Solid colour intent : preceptual
      - Default image intent
      - After blending intent:  Perceptual.
edit > convert to profile.  (use similar as above).
edit > Preferences > Apprearance of black
      - on screen / export : Display all blacks as enriched black
      - Priniting and export : Display all blacks as enriched black
    Overprint: (not checked)
------ when exporting to PDF ----------
    File > Export
    in GENERAL TAB
      - Adobe PDF preset: High quality print.
      - Standard (drop down menu): PDF/X-42008
      - Compatability: Acrobat 5 PDF1:4
    in OUTPUT
      - COlour conversion: Convert to destination
      - Destination:  Working CMYK Euroscale Coated v2
    in PDF/X
      - Output intent profile name: Working CMYK - Euroscale Coated v2
    also:
If you are having problems with fill blacks not coming out as proper black then use registration instead of black from the swatch panel.
The above may seem either obvious to most of you or possibly not the best way of doing things but since the results worked for me and I found them tough to arrive at, it may be of use to others hence my post.
I would like your feedback on this process, have I done something wrong / could do better?  If so please let me know.  I am keen to improve.

I would copy and paste into InDesign forum. Text should stay 100% black. Any other black (like solid boxes or thick lines), I usually use a rich black swatch I created at 40/40/40/100. Looks 10 times better than just 100% black.

  • How to delete a spot colour swatch set up incorrectly

Hi i'm running indesign CC2014 and having problems deleting a spot colour swatch 877 initial set up incorrectly as a lab spot colour, rather than choosing from the colour books
I've since converted it to a processed lab colour and still it won't delete. I also can't i find the colour and where it is used in my document.
I've tried to add metallic coated 877c  (correctly this time) swatch again but it won't allow two swatches with the same name.
Can anyone help as i really need to correct this for the printers.

Is there anyway to find this out as i'm dealing with a 60 page brochure and not easy to manually find.
You can use the preflight panel to find all instances of a spot color.
In the lower left corner of the doc window you can define a preflight profile and apply it to the document:
Here I've made a profile named No Spots with Spot color checked under Color Spaces not Allowed
With Preflight on the profile will list any placed objects using a spot. in this case a PS monotone named Untitled-1

  • HP Laserjet 3600 Series Printer with a blank or incorrect colour column down left side of page

Have a HP3600 Series Laserjet that has started to show a definite column (about 1/2" wide) of incorrect colour down the lefthand side of the page. Narrowed it down to the Magenta Cartridge after printing a diagnostics page.  Have replaced the Magenta Cartridge after doing calibrations and diagnostics and have also now replaced the Fuser Kit. Still the same - has anyone any suggestions?

    Hi ProspeorusCE,
The product you have is a commercial printer. I suggest posting in the forum for HP Business Support for a better chance at finding a solution.

  • Colour colour profiles and JPEG compression mismatch

In preparing images for iBooks I have noticed bizarre behaviours and a number of problems with matching colours.
For example, if a JPEG image all one colour is placed in a gallery widget over a text box, and then the background colour of the textbox is set to the colour of the image by sampling the colour in the image using the colour picker, when downloaded to the iPad the colours will not match (although they appear to in iBooks Author). I presume this must be a bug with the encoding of the JPEG? Or is it a conversion issue between different colour profiles used for the solid colours in iBooks and the sRGB colours that Apple advises using for images?
I have also noticed that if you download a book to an iPad the colour matching between solids and image colours changes radically depending on what monitor you have the computer running iBooks Author plugged into (ie depending on the monitor profile in use). What colour profile does iBooks author use for solids and what for images and why are they different? Is it conversing the solids but not the images, or vice versa, and between which colour spaces? What is the working colour space of iBooks Author? Does it differ depending on the monitor profile? If so, why does converting images to the monitor profile still not result in them matching the solids used in iBooks Author?
In short, does anyone have a clue what is going on with the colour profiles and colour matching in iBooks Author and iBooks on the iPad? They certainly display the most perplexing behaviour I have ever come across.
    Giles Hudson

Although you say there is no concept of a colour profile in iOS, the problem is that iBooks Author does recognize profiles, and appears to take them into consideration when downloading images to books on the iPad. For example, an image tagged with an sRGB profile placed in iBooks Author will appear differently from an identical image tagged with an Adobe RGB profile. The problem is, it is not at all clear what conversion is going on, especially when using a monitor with a different colour profile appears to cause radically different behaviour in the conversion. Is it being converted to "Device RGB" that the colour picker apepars to use? What is this Device RGB? The monitor RGB or the iPad RGB?
I understand that iOS supports RGB and CMYK. However, the important question is, which working space does iBooks Author use? sRGB, GenericRGB, Device RGB (whatever that is), Apple RGB, Adobe RGB, the monitor RGB? Without knowing this it is difficult to match solid colours to colours in images (and even arguably impossible due to the JPEG encoding problem I mentioned above).
All this vagueness in colour handling with OSX and iOS makes life very difficult, especially, as you suggest, when things have the potential to change at any minute, potentially wrecking months of painstaking work that has been put into designing books in iBooks Author.

  • Changes to appearance of repeat swatch and gradient (both with transparency applied) when .ai saved in PDF 1.3 compatibility

I need to send a complex vector print to a commercial printer who requires my .ai file to be saved as 1.3 PDF compatibility.  All the graphics display & print correctly bar two elements:
    1. A gradient with transparency applied
    2. A repeat pattern swatch with transparency applied
Both of these elements are layered between a solid colour background and a complex array of vector art.
The gradient displays as solid white when converted to 1.3 PDF.  The pattern swatch displays partly white, with some elements of the pattern repeat visible as a watermark.
    1. I have tried to rasterise these elements within the a@rt, and while they both display correctly while in .ai format, as soon as I convert to PDF the appearance changes as above.
    2. I have tried to apply the transparency to the paint buckets on the gradient slider instead of applying it to the shape with gradient fil
    3. I've fiddled with the Transparency Flattening presets, Document Raster Effect Settings, and everything I can think of in the 'Save as PDF' dialogue box
    4. I've tried to rasterise the full file with an even worse outcome (all colour information lost, appears only on grey scale with fewer elements visible)
Could this have something to do with spot colours or overprint?  Any help would be most appeciated!
    I'm using:
Illustrator CC 18.1.1 (doc colour set to CMYK)
on a Macbook Pro OSX Yosemite Version 10.10.1
    Apple Preview Version 8.0 (859)

    Hi Mike,
Thanks for taking an interest! I tried rebuilding my gradient as suggested to see whether it would make a difference, but was still having issues.  Tried to save every which way with the save as PDF options in 1.3 profile.  Finally went back into the file to unpack each layer and see what I could adjust to save the appearance.
Found this fix in my swatches palette: for some reason the swatches I was working with had converted to "Book Colour", something I never use.  I changed the dropdown back to CMYK and changed the colours from spot to process, which fixed the file    Relief after hours of searching and late nights!
    Thanks again!

  • I would like to create a colour swatch in Adobe Muse

I have just started a trial of all the Adobe CC programs, and was just wondering about creating a colour swatch using the Muse application.
Could someone give me some help and guidance on how to do this?

  • Organising Colour Swatches Tab/Palette

    Hi everyone
Re: InDesign CS5 colour swatch palette/tab.
I do artwork for two monthly magazines which consist of editorial and paid advertisements. These ads are either designed by me or supplied by customers and change regularly. Over the years of receiving artwork in various formats - pdf being the most common, my swatches palette has grown to be almost out of control. Every month I do a sweep of the swatches, removing unused and converting any spot to cmyk manually (I have had transparency issues with spot colours), but my main issue is with the jumble of colour swatches. I know if I create a new document and import all the swatches from the previous month issues, the swatches will arrange themselves in order - all PMS colours together, all cmyk colours together etc, but as I don't necessarily want to create new artwork each month I open up last month's doc and strip out old text, ads and replace with the current monthly info.
Is there any way I can arrange my swatches in order?
My screenshot only shows half of the swatches in the palette.
I would be really grateful if someone could show me how to fix this, I accept that I may have some bad working practices going on here.
    Thanks, Liz

Make sure you save each swatch or swatch combination as an ACO file. Use the dropdown menu near the top right of the swatches panel.
You can then load named swatches, or replace the default swatch with a named swatch - using the sme dropdown menu.
You can also download swatches designed by others from the Kuler website.

  • Colour Swatches not Consistent

I've been experiencing weird result when I copy a pattern from a illustrator file to another: the pattern would change the colours itself! Even when I save the original swatches of the colours and open them in the second file, the colours changed too!
Does anyone know why? Sometimes the colours are find but sometimes not...it seems the colour swatches are not consistent between the files...
    Thanks!

Some colours of the pattern adopted the colours(swatches) of the other pattern I pasted previously.
The colours are "linked" to the swatches so I could change the colour just by adjusting the swatches. Placing the second pattern should create another complete set of swatches but it didn't. The problem is that the swatches were changed when placed in the second file and became complete different colours.
As you can see in the images I attached, the yellow stripes in the first image became white in the second one.
These patterns are imported from a disc of a pattern book I bought. They came as eps files. I wonder if that's related...
    Thanks!

  • Two items same colour swatch; showing differently!

I am constantly having this problem so I thought I'd ask for a bit of guidance.
I have a colour swatch that I use regularly, and I use it for table headers a lot. For some reason on the same page, using the same swatch the table headers look different!
    Colour Settings:
    Settings: Custom
RGB: Monitor - RGB - Display
CMYK: ColorSYnc CMYK - Generic CMYK Profile
    Colour Management Policies:
    RGB: Off
    CMYK: Preserve Embedded Profiles

Reading the RGB values on that screenshot in Photoshop indicates that the orange is identical on both those headers. I think it's your monitor that makes it appear different.
You can read the CMYK values by opening the the Separations Preview pallette, switching View to Separations, and hovering over the orange area. I bet it's the same values for both headers.

  • Choosing RGB color in Illustrator (swatches and sliders remain in CMYK)

I'm making a simple template to laser cut. The laser cutter acts as a printer and you choose the power, speed, etc. for each colour that is in the document. I only want to cut, so I only have RGB red lines at 0.001 pt thickness. Or at least that was the plan. One of the shapes in my template has come out a different red (the swatches were CMYK despite the document colour mode being RGB). I would now like to select all the paths in the document and make them all RGB red. However, when I open the colour panel from the dock the sliders are CMYK, again this is despite the document colour mode being RGB:
How do I change all the paths to be RGB red?
How do I stop Illustrator offering me CMYK options and swatches and offering RGB instead?
Message was edited by: Dumble_dad adding missing words

    Dumble-dad,
I changed the panel to RGB, but now it is only offering me the K slider!
If you have ticked RGB and got Grayscale, there must be something wrong, quite possibly in your preferences.
Here is a general list of things to try when strangeness strikes (you may have tried/done some of them already) and see whether it helps (the following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file; 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences):
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6, and reinstall.
