Increase memory, swap slice change
Sorry but it's solaris 8 on a SPARC not solaris 9 but there doesn't seem to be a forum for it.
I've installed an ectra 512MB of memory into my server (increasing it to 1024MB). The installation of solaris 8 was always set to use 512MB. I increased the swap slice to 1.5GB (see the entry below) :
3 swap wu 6242 - 9362 1.50GB (3121/0/0) 3145968
My vfstab looks like this (I haven't changed anything yet) :
fd - /dev/fd fd - no -
/proc - /proc proc - no -
/dev/dsk/c0t0d0s3 - - swap - no -
/dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0 /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0 / ufs 1 no -
/dev/dsk/c0t0d0s6 /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s6 /usr ufs 1 no -
/dev/dsk/c0t0d0s1 /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s1 /var ufs 1 no -
/dev/dsk/c0t0d0s7 /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s7 /export/home ufs 2 yes -
/dev/dsk/c0t0d0s5 /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s5 /opt ufs 2 yes -
/dev/dsk/c0t0d0s4 /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s4 /var/opt/CPsuite-R65/fw1/log ufs 2 yes -
swap - /tmp tmpfs - yes size=512m
Do I need to change the swap line or change anything else for solaris to first of all use the new memory and second of all use the larger swap file?
TIA
Okey doke,
swap -s reveals :
total: 156232k bytes allocated + 24848k reserved = 181080k used, 2181664k available
swap -l reveals :
swapfile dev swaplo blocks free
/dev/dsk/c0t0d0s3 136,3 16 3145952 3145952
df -k reveals :
swap 2179672 24 2179648 1% /var/run
swap 524288 8 524280 1% /tmp
so I suppose my new swap partition is in use ? Is this right?

Increase memory of Integrated WebLogic in Jdev 11.1.2.3 - RedHat 5.8
Hello:
I am running Red Hat 5.8 with JDev 11.1.2.3. and I would like to increase the memory of the Integrated WebLogic Server. Here is what I did so far:
- Installed Jdev 11.1.2.3 on a Red Hat 5.8 - works ok.
- Created and ran a simple application in Jdev to cause the Integrated WebLogic server to create a default domain. - worked ok
- I was expecting to find the file setDomainEnv.sh inside the .../Middleware/user_projects/applications/DefaultDomain/bin directory
But there are no files and no directories under /DefaultDomain folder.
When using the Integrated WebLogic Server in Jdeveloper, where is the setDomainEnv.sh file?
For the Integrated WebLogic Server in Jdeveloper, how do I increase Memory for the Integrated WebLogic Server in Jdeveloper?
Thanks for the help.You may want to apply your changes to .../Middleware/wlserver_10.3/common/commonEnv.sh, this will ensure you don't lose settings when you need to recreate your integrated weblogic domain. After you applied changes to this file you should delete your default domain and recreate it (both through JDev). The reason for this is settings from the common folder are applied to domains when they are created, so your existing domain would have been built with the old (default) settings.

Solaris: Increase the swap space
Hi all,
I am the developer, not the DBA, but actually should make some DBA-job.
On our solaris server I should increase the swap space, but I don't know how to make this...
From time to time I get the following error message in system log files:

Many thanks!Check what is using the memory and if that is necessary.
1. can you safely shrink the SGA ? you would need to check the AWR reports, or recommended sizes.
2. can you safely shrink the PGA ? you would need to check the AWR reports, or recommended sizes)
3. can you reduce the number of processes ? (are there lots of idle processes ?)
4. can you tune sql to use less memory ?
If you can't reduce allocated memory, check if you can add RAM to the server / container.
If you still think you need to increase swap, you may need to add another disk (what is /dev/md/dsk/d60 ?). You can easily google for the Solaris commands to add swap, but if you are not familiar with this process I would not recommend you do it by yourself. Ask Oracle Support to provide the commands, and TEST them on a DEV box, followed by reboots etc to confirm it works. -
Memory Swapping - help me make it stop
Hi All,
I am configuring a new machine with Oracle 10g running a single unicode database (db size is about 2GB) and during testing I am experiencing major memory swaping and my linux server is slowing to a crawl. The top command show 40 or so oracle processes like this:
PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
19774 oracle 16 0 666m 24m 22m R 4.8 1.2 0:04.94 oracle
Each process is grabbing 666m of virtual memory. I have the SGA and other memory parameers sized at:
test.__db_cache_size=452984832
test.__java_pool_size=4194304
test.__large_pool_size=4194304
test.pga_aggregate_target=201326592
test.__shared_pool_size=142606336
sga_target=605028352
The "free" command shows:
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 2076488 1937468 139020 0 212308 832272
-/+ buffers/cache: 892888 1183600
Swap: 9767512 12476 9755036
The "vmstat" command shows:
oracle@hans:~$ vmstat
procs -----------memory---------- ---swap-- -----io---- system ----cpu----
r b swpd free buff cache si so bi bo in cs us sy id wa
31 1 12476 77588 199904 935468 0 0 6 6 9 10 2 1 97 0
Do i simply need to reduce my SGA or add ram to my db server? My database tuning skills are beginner. I can't tell if this is happening because of runaway sql statements or because my oracle memory parameters need tweaking. Can anyone point me in the righ direction to reduce the memory swap? I don't know why each process is grabbing 666m of memory. When i query v$sql and v$session i see only 15 sql statement running and these queries run fine in other environments. The only parameter i recently changed was the processes and sessions parameters. I bumped it from 150 to 500 but we control this number on the app server and there are only 122 sessions currently running. I need some general advise on controlling memory allocation.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave

nullIn fact, the process at O.S. level is not in v$session.process (thank Oracle for that one!). It's in SPID column of v$process. The link between v$session and v$process is the process address (v$session.paddr=v$process=addr):
SQL>select sid, serial#, process, (select spid from v$process p where p.addr = s.paddr) from v$session s where sid = 821;

CreateRow increases memory and cpu. Tomcat+ADF Faces+BC4J in JDev 10.1.3.0.4
My old problem is this Ineffectiveness/Inconsistency BC4J createrow in tomcat, CPU = 100%,Mem=2.2G
I have tested my Adf Faces application with jmx in server and, in my machine, jconsole and mc4j.
When cpu=100% and memory increases, jconsole constantly returned similar trace:
In all trace, I see that common is:
oracle.jbo.server.QueryCollection.populateRow(QueryCollection.java:2203)
oracle.jbo.server.QueryCollection.fetch(QueryCollection.java:2088)
Therefore, I believe that function populateRow make infinity loop (or fuction fech make infinity loop, called populateRow), but I don’t know populteRow or fetch code.
tomcat Version: 5.5.16
Jdeveloper Version: 10.1.3.0.4
Adf Business component Version: 10.1.3.36.73

Please, any oracle ACE could help me?

It’s corresponding to menu.
I have looking this documentation:

In this documentation, first access, the cache miss, but the following times the cache could hit. . When my server gain cpu and memory I look that the following times the cache always miss in all pages. Subsequently tomcat no reply and the malicious thread, execute Armageddon trace. This behavior of the cache is strange, right?
I’m sure that I’m making anything that fetch in queryCollection make big loop.
I have redefining getRangeSize and CurrentRow of my CustomViewObject (all viewOjects about my applications extends CustomViewObject and CustomViewObject extends viewObject) and I looked correct rangesize (not -1). I got system.out.println(getFetchedRowCount()) in createRow and obtain 13 or 15. I belive that It’s correct.

I've a few issues, my old computer was out of memory. I changed to a new one which already had another itunes account (for my business) when i upgraded to os5 my library has dissappeared as it has syncd with the new computer. Is there any way i can restore the information previously from my ipad? really appreciate any advice thanx in advance
Lynda-
If you still have the old computer, you should be able to connect the iPad, run iTunes and restore from a backup from a previous sync. Now that you have it updated, you will not need to do that again.

Do itabs in ABAP program memory swap out when the program is swapped out?
Do itabs in ABAP program memory swap out when the program is swapped out by the app server scheduler?
If so, has anyone compared the time it takes to open/close an Oracle table n times with the time it takes to swap an itab of 50M in and out n times?Andrew -
Although your suspicion appears to be wrong (according to the answer provided by CharlesF below), I'm awarding 6 because your answer indicates that you are at least sensitive to the issues involved here (which is better than 90% of the SAP practitioners out there.)
However, I do want to take strong issue with you on the matter of how much available "multi-gig" memory is available, because this is irrelevant to the issue at hand.
The question is: how does the swapin/out of large program memory affect the scheduler on the app server?
This is a queueing theory issue that has nothing to do with how much memory is out there.
Back in the days when folks had to know a little queueing theory (to evaluate the pro's and cons of ISO vs SNA and token-ring vs other protocols, everyone understood that if you ask the scheduler to repeatedly swap "alot" and to do so very often, then there will be a profound ripple effect on system performance, not just for anyone "job" or "program", but for any and every job or program.
The reason is very simple, and the folks who taught the ISO/SNA seminars always used it: traffic flow on passenger highways is always best when there are few trucks travelling with the cars. This is why the New Jersey turnpike sometimes splits into two "cars only" and "trucks and cars" highways, and why many other roads have "right lane" only restrictions for trucks in certain areas that tend to get congested ...
Anyway, always a pleasure to chat with you ...
Best regards

Epson Print CD - "Increase memory size"
Bit of a long shot I guess, but I'm trying to print onto a CD using Epson Print CD... However, when I go to print, it comes up with a message that says "Please increase memory size for print CD", and won't go any further. I'm guessing that has something to do with setting preferences in OSX, but I have no idea what to do...
Any ideas?Greg,
Actually the versions are newer. I just visited the Epson website and found this info. Thank you for the pointer.
Here's the PowerPC version for your iMac iSight 2.5aAas for 10.2 to 10.4, and Intel version, if you got any Intel Macs 3.0aAs for 10.4.4 and above on the U.S. website. The U.K. links for the same printer are here: PowerPC version 2.5, and Intel version 3.0. Not sure if there is a difference, but you might want to try the U.S. version of the drivers. Realize we here in the U.S. spell colour, color! -
I only have 1 mb memory on my I Mac with version 10.6.8. I understand you need 2 mb to install I Cloud. Can I increase memory ?
You need to buy and install enough RAM to give your computer at least 2GB to run Lion. Lion doesn't run on Core Duo Macs.

Increase memory macbook Pro early 2011
need to increase memory from 2@4mm to 8mm. can i use one 8mm, or do i have to use 2 x 4mm?
An early 2010 MBP can accept up to 16 GB RAM. For BEST performance, matched pairs are required, ie. 2 x 2, 2 x 4, and 2 x 8. You can use a mismatched pairs or a single stick of RAM but that will be with a performance decrease.
The specifications for a 2011 MBP RAM are: 204-pin PC-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM. The best sources of Mac compatible RAM are Crucial and OWC.

It is not possible for anyone to upgrade your memory on an MBA. Notwithstanding, some uber-nerds who have occasionally posted that they have access to the extremely expensive soldering equipment and highly technical expertise that rarely exists outside of a multi-billion dollar manufacturing lab.

Hi Guys! I really need help here, Im a Web Graphic Designer and i really use alot of Memory on my mac ( i have 8gb ram ). Everyone told me that disabling the memory swapping would really help alot and tried to disable it. All of my friends taught me on how to disable it by enerting
" sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.dynamic_pager.plist " on my Terminal
It really works on other MacBPro but i ge this error message
" launchctl: Couldn't stat("/System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.dynamic_pager.plist"): No such file or directory nothing found to unload "
I tried to look at the folder or directory there is no com.apple.dynamic_pager.plist and its confusing me cause the memory swapping is still working without the com.apple.dynamic_pager.plist.
Can someone help or tell me how to fix this? I would really much appreciate it.I never heard of anyone doing what you are attempting!
If you have so much memory as you claim I don't see the advantage of running the system in this non-standard way since you probably won't need to write to a swapfile anyway. And you are asking for trouble if it does need it and it's not there.
Finally, I submit you must have missed or or looked in the wrong place. In terminal cut/paste the following:
ls /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.dynamic_pager.plist
It shouldn't report an error.
