Increasing buffer

Hello
I'm working in a remote area with limited internet service options.  The internet service I have is "ok", but it's choppy and not well suited for streaming video.  Some video I receive is thru Windows Media Player, which is capable of letting the user specify how much content to buffer before playing.  This is excellent technology for users in situations like mine.  I've been able to set the number of minutes to buffer very high, and the technology works great.
Some content I access comes thru Adobe Flash Player, and unlike Windows Media Player, its choppy and almost unusable.  Does Flash Player have the technology to overcome this?  If not, does Adobe has this on their technology map?
Someone told me that the only way to overcome this is to have the content provider change things on their side.  That answer is of absolutely no value, since getting a remote IT department to pay any attention to end-user issues is next to impossible.  It'd probably be just as easy to get them to send it thru WLM where I can control buffering myself.
I'm hoping Adobe has a better answer.
Thanks in advance -- Dave

I don't have the answers to your technology questions - this is a user-to-user forum, and Adobe staff make very rare appearances here.
I don't know if this will help you, but try to increase the storage settings at http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager.html

hello, I'm trying to sample my scxi module (SCXI-1100 32Ch analog input module) at 10Hz... so I'm taking my samples in a timed while loop... I was wondering if I had this wired correctly... I'm sampling 16 inputs of the scxi-1100... inside my timed while loop I have set up "NChan 1Samp"..... I keep getting the increase buffer size error.... but I'm only taking 1 sample.... I'm not sure where I've gone wrong... I'm including a picture.... much thanks.

    Hi Fibo,
    Thanks for the post!
If you require to do continous aquisation you need to read Nsamples.. i.e. to pull all the samples collected out of the buffer when you loop re-iterates.
I would recommend looking in the example finder (Help>>Find Examples...Hardware Input/Output>>DAQmx>>Analog..
Im pretty sure this would explain the buffer zier error.
** Its fine to have two create channels, if you want to change the settings relating to each channel. You just cant have mutiple Analog Tasks.
Let me know what you think,

Don't know if this is what you're searching for, and I don't know if there is such a function in LV 8.6, but I'm using LV 2010 and under DAQmx Pallete, you go to "Advanced Task Options", there is a function "Configure Output Buffer", in which you can configure the buffer size you want.

  • Using a queue to increase buffer

Hi, I am aquiring data from a 3 axis accelerometer, at a pretty high sampling rate, 10K. I have seen that "randomly" there are peaks in my data above what resonant frequency applitutes should be. The spikes are unreasonably big and almost never occur on the first while loop iteration.
I feel that it may be due to some data being corrupted or something happening when the data is coming from the daq device. I sometimes get the buffer overload error, that the computer cannot keep up and the daqs buffer is full. But even when I don't these peaks occur.
Is there a way to send the data to a queue to effectivly increase the buffer that I can work with when acquiring data?
    I'm using LabVIEW 8.6 on a 6062E PCMCIA.
I don't have much experience with queues but I have been trying to read up about it and look at some example vi's.
    Thanks,
    Arthur J.

Before you investigate a software fix for what seems to be a hardware problem, firstly, try to get the 10k rate read working. Pare down your code until the read loop is working.
Perhaps you are not reading the data fast enough? The loop where you are reading the data needs to be lean. Preferably nothing in it but the Read VI and an indicator.
I have an example where I was running at 10k rate just fine all day. I later edited the loop, where I was sloppily hammering a disable Property Node. That one Property Node was slowing down the loop enough that the 10k rate would not work.

How can I change buffer size in iTunes 10? "Streaming Buffer Size" pop-up menu does not exist under Preferences--Advanced.

    Hi all, iTunes streaming victims.
I struggled long with the streaming buffer problem of iTunes and indeed could solve it with increasing the buffer size, which features has been removed in iTunes 10. And this without updating the instructions by Apple!
    Here is my solutions:

  • Adobe Flash Media Encoder Increase Buffer Window

    Hi All,
Windows 8 OS looking to increase Adobe Flash Media Encoder's buffer window to 5 seconds and insert script commands. Obviously, there aren't any options through the program itself, so we're looking for a way around. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

You can increase the buffer to 5 seconds, click on the auto adjust and drop frames (recommended over degrade quality in my opinion as it can change the pitch of the audio), then change the buffer to 5 seconds.

    Hi,
You can increase the buffer size by using the property bufferTime of NetStream Object you are using. For eg: if ns is your NetStream Object then it can be done by ns.bufferTime=<desired value>.
Also you can go through this
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/flash/9.0/ActionScriptLangRefV3/flash/net/NetStream.html#bufferT ime.

  • How to increase the buffer size for Oracle?

After I installed the patch 9.2.0.4, I kept getting 'ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel' error. According to the metalink, increasing the buffer size may solve this problem. I found when I set the trace on, this problem was gone, and after I set the trace off, it came back again. I am not sure if setting the trace on increases buffer size automatically or not, but I want to start from here.
No matter how easy it is, I really didn't change buffer size before, can anyone show me how to do that?
    Thanks a lot.

  • Increase SGA on 8i

Can someone please guide me on how to increase the SGA size on 8i?
It srunning on a Windows 2003 Server.
I know how to do it on 9i via Enterprise Manager but that feature is not available in 8i.
    Anyone?

No. I can't see why ... with the numbers you provide I would guess that it's probably a good idea, but other than "it's available, therefore I wanna use it." I see no real justification. You have shown no stats or analysis indicating that you should increase it.
But that's beside the point. And my point was simply - go ahead and increase ... just be aware that there is a point where increasing buffer cache has a negative impact. For several reasons.
And yes, your steps are correct.
See also the ' Oracle8i Designing and Tuning for Performance' for 8.1.7 at http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/doc/index.htm, and specifically Chapter 19 http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/A87860_01/doc/server.817/a76992/ch19_mem.htm#832 for the other Buffer_Cache parameters

  • Swapping and Database Buffer Cache size

I've read that setting the database buffer cache size too large can cause swapping and paging. Why is this the case? More memory for sql data would seem to not be a problem. Unless it is the proportion of the database buffer to the rest of the SGA that matters.

Well I am always a defender of the large DB buffer cache. Setting the bigger db buffer cache alone will not in any way hurt Oracle performance.
However ... as the buffer cache grows, the time to determine 'which blocks
need to be cleaned' increases. Therefore, at a certain point the benefit of a
larger cache is offset by the time to keep it sync'd to the disk. After that point,
increasing buffer cache size can actually hurt performance. That's the reason why Oracle has checkpoint.
A checkpoint performs the following three operations:
    1. Every dirty block in the buffer cache is written to the data files. That is, it synchronizes the datablocks in the buffer cache with the datafiles on disk.
It's the DBWR that writes all modified databaseblocks back to the datafiles.
    2. The latest SCN is written (updated) into the datafile header.
    3. The latest SCN is also written to the controlfiles.
The following events trigger a checkpoint.
    1. Redo log switch
    2. LOG_CHECKPOINT_TIMEOUT has expired
    3. LOG_CHECKPOINT_INTERVAL has been reached
    4. DBA requires so (alter system checkpoint)

  • Buffer Size and Latency

I knew the 2 might be connected but I recently read some information which confused me. I thought a larger buffer size was good, but I've just read that increasing the buffer size lengthens latency. Can anyone enlighten me on the relationship between these; just simple answers, please.

Audio is sent through the system in chunks. Chunks of the buffer size. Buffer size is measured in samples so a buffer setting of 256 samples rewquests and provides audio in 256 sample packets. As a real time application, this cannot be predicted so the buffer reads from the present/past as opposed to looking ahead of time. The chunk will be handed off to CoreAudio that much ( time ) later, in comparison. So...
Larger buffer increases track/plugin count since you allow the computer more time to manage it's tasks.
Decreasing allows for less total system throuhput ( = less latency ).
Many people have found a good balance for this ( if they need to dynamically alter system resources ) to be:
Low buffer size while recording, for minimal latency
Then increase buffer for mixdown, allowing more pluggies and tracks.
Your latency setting is also dependent on your audio hardware and system busses. So, a good interface and driver on a dedicated FireWire bus can allow you to decrease your buffer setting.

  • Determining buffer cache size

    Hello,
I'd like to get the type of information in version 8 that I can get in version 9 through v$db_cache_advice in order to determine the size that the buffer cache should be. I've found sites that say you can set db_block_lru_extended_statistics to populate v$recent_bucket, but they say there is a performance hit. Can anyone tell me qualitatively how much of a performance hit this causes (obviously it would only be run this way for a short period of time), and whether or not this is really the best/right way to do this?
    Thanks.

    Actually ours is bank Database,
    Our Database size is 400GB.
last month they got ORA-000604 error,
so that production database got hanged for 15 min, issue got resolved automatically after 15min.
At that time complete buffer cache was flushed out & all oracle Processes was terminated.
becoz of that they increased buffer cache size.

  • Error 2- memory full & error 10846 - buffer overwrite

I am running a multi threaded application on Labview 6.1 on Win2000 that involves continuous buffered data acquisition on a PCI-6130E and serial communication. I am sampling 15 channels at 600Hz. I currently have a buffer size of 1000 and am reading 60 points at a time. The serial communication involves sending commands to a pump from a queue. The queue is maintained at about 500 commands and does not increase over time.
I am plagued with two errors: the first is buffer overwrite error 10846. This occurs only when running the serial communication thread and DAQ thread simultaneously. I have tried reducing sampling rate, increasing buffer size, and increasing the number of points read at a time. The only effec
t seems to be to postpone the crash for about an hour.
The other error is error 2 - memory full. Labview seems to use gradually more and more memory over time and crashes after a few hours at about 110,000K.
I am not sure if these two problems are related in some way, as I have only gotten error 2 after receiving and ignoring error 10846. Sometimes the program runs for about an hour and then Labview exits by itself. I'm wondering if this memory error could be a result of my chart histories being too large or from some kind of accumulation due to using a queue.
If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix any of these errors, or on how to diagnose their cause, I would appreciate your help.

I suggest you concentrate on the memory leak.
There are many things that could cause this, some obivous others are very subtle.
Do the following and let us know what you find.
    1) Reboot
    2) Brinf up the task manager and check the performance before you start. Note memory usage and compare with the actual physical memory.
    3) Run your app. Watch the memory usage.
Let us know what you find, and feel free to post your code.
I will not go into all of the things that can cause memory leaks because there have been many posting on this site on how to handle leaks, and I would only be scratching the surface.

  • First attempt at Producer Consumer Architecture: continuous read and dynamically update parameters.

    Hello,
I am currently working with two instruments; an Agilent E3646A and an NI 6212 BNC. My objective is to have the 6212 to be continuously taking measurements according to predefined parameters while the E3646A's parameters can be continuously updated. This simple instrument combination is intended to help me learn the necessarry achitecture; continuous measurement, dynamic output control, and more instruments will be added in the future.
I've previously posted on a similar, but more complicated, setup (http://forums.ni.com/t5/Instrument-Control-GPIB-Serial/Split-second-lag-when-controlling-two-instrum... and was advised to try the Producer Consumer Architecture. I've found relevant literature on the site (http://www.ni.com/white-paper/3023/en/, https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-2431), searched the forums and constructed my own VI. While my first attempt at a Producer Consumer Architecture has resolved some of the issues I was having when I first posted on the subject, however, new issues have arisen with regard to reading and stopping the VI.
I am currently able to run the VI and update the device parameters. Previously, I would get a freeze while the instrument was being updated and could not toggle parameters until it was done. This has been resolved although the read only updates when a parameter has been updated although it is outside of the event structure. Furthermore the Stop button does not work in any context. I've also gotten occasional errors regarding the Deqeue Element but the bulk of the trouble is Error -200279 "Attempted to read samples that are no longer available" at DAQmx Read. I realize that there is a problem in my Producer Loop but haven't been able to figure out how to resolve it.
This is my first attempt at a Producer Consumer Architecture and already I can see that it is a powerful tool. I read as much as I could and looked at the relevant examples but expected to have some issues in the beginning. Would really appreciate any advice so I can take full advantage of the architecture.
    Hope to hear from you,

    Jon,
Thank you for the response and the suggestions.
I created the Local Variable for the Stop Button and moved the original into its own Event Case. It is now able to stop VI execution although I get Warning -1073676294 which I understand to be the buffer issue. The warning says that this was incurred on VISA Open for the E3646A's Initialize VI which is outside both loops, however, which I don't understand.
I tried increasing buffer size by decreasing the Number of Samples as per suggestions I found on NI forum threads. I've brought it down as low as 1 but the graph still only updates when an Event occurs and I keep getting the same buffer error. You suggested that the problem could be that they are in the same loop; does this mean that the DAQmx read should be outside both Producer and Consumer Loops or moved into the Consumer Loop? I found a couple of links ( http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/Producer-Consumer-Design-Pattern-DAQmx-Event-Structure/td-p/2744450 ,  http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/Producer-Consumer-Architecture/td-p/494883 -first response) on dealing with an Event Structure that my own VI is based. Alternatively, I found another link ( http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/Producer-Consumer-Design-Pattern-DAQmx-Event-Structure/td-p/2744450 - first response) on a DAQmx Read with an Event Structure that places the graph in the Consumer Loop.
The core of my purpose in setting up this Producer Consumer Architecture is so that I could read continuously while the instrument parameters are updated dynamically so it's very important that I understand how this works. I am particularly struggling with how the Event Structure is controlling the While Loop's Execution.
    Hope to hear form you,

  • Error: sync audio & midi

    Hi,
I've searched the forum and it seems that a lot of people are having this problem - although I haven't found a solution.
I am getting the following error message:
"Error while trying to sync audio and midi. Sample rate 42572 recognized. Check conflict between logic express and external devices".
    Here's what I'm using:
    Intel MacBook Pro, OS 10.4.8
    M-audio Midiman 2x2
    Old Yamaha Clavinova controller
When I was using a powerPC iMac, everything was fine. Now that I'm using this macbook pro (intel), I'm having this error come up every 5 seconds during playback and recording.
What can I do? Is this an Intel compatibility problem or is there something else going on?
    Thanks!

    Yes. I've increased buffer sizes...
I copied the file over to my power PC mac and everything is working fine. I have a feeling it's just a compatibility issue with using a power pc program on an intel mac.
I will try downloading the intel update. If anyone else has any other suggestions, please suggest!
    Thanks!
