Increasing file transfer speeds with multiple network adapters?

Hello,
I want to move gigabytes of data from my PC to my PowerBook G4 at a faster rate. My PC has 802.11g WiFi and 100Mb/s ethernet and I've got my Airport's WiFi and 100Mb/s ethernet on my laptop so I'd like to somehow combine these two network interfaces to speed up my file transfers. How can I do this?
I've read a little about 802.3ad link aggregation, but AFAIK this applies exclusively to 802.3 ethernet ports.
Thanks,
Shaun
PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Does your PC have a FireWire port? you can use IP over FireWire for better throughput than the wired ethernet.
You can't use link aggregation in this case since it requires multiple interfaces of the same type (e.g. two gigabit ethernet cards), but you cannot mix media such as AirPort and Ethernet.
The alternative would be to install a gigabit ethernet card in your PC. You'd at least then get gigabit ethernet speed between the two devices which is also a step up.

  • Very slow network file transfer speeds with WRT310 + Powerline PLS300

    Hi guys-Thanks for looking!
I have Charter hi-speed (10MBS) with my wireless N router (WRT310).  Connected to my router is the PLE300 Linksys powerline adapter.  I have two PLS300 powerline adapters.  One feeds my computer and my wife's computer in the den and the other feeds the playstation, xbox, NAS Black Armor media server in the media room.
In running speed tests online, I get >10 MBS on both ends of the powerline adapters so surfing the internet is very fast on both ends.  I also have very fast file transfers from my wife's computer to my computer across the same PLS300 adapter
However, in transfering files to my media server from my computers, I get speeds of 500 kbs.  If I try to stream video files (non-HD) to my PS3, the video stutters to where it is unwatchable.  I have also tried to bypass the powerline adapter by just using a wireless N gaming adapter and that yielded similar slow results.
I am running Windows 7 on both computers.  I have removed the firewalls and McAfee.
Again, thanks for looking and happy new year!

Reduce the MTU to 1350 on the router and check if that helps...

  • Slow large file transfer speed with LaCie 1T firewire 800 drives

I am transferring two large files (201gb and 95gb) from one LaCie 1T firewire external drives to another one (using separate connections to a PCI Express firewire 800 card in my Quad G5. The transfer time is incredibly slow – over for hours for the 201gb file and over 2 hours for the 95gb file.
Does anyone have any ideas why this is so slow or what I might try to speed up the transfer rates?
    Thank you.

  • File transfer speed with Ext. HDD very slow

    Hi,
Got the snow leopard upgrade loving it but i recently discovered the it takes longer to copy files to and from my WD HDD's all 4 of them, connected via FW800, FW400 and 2 USB ports, the FW800 is the slowest. i ran some test tried coping random 1GB files and it took 7 mins but in 10.5 it usually takes less than 2 mins. i have tried restarting, disconnecting the drives and unplugging nothing seems to work. anyone got any clue why the speed suddenly dropped.
    i use a 2.4GHz intel core 2 duo iMac

  • Local file transfer speed slow on E1200

On a local file transfer (computer to NAS or NAS to computer) my file transfer speed with the E1200 is way too slow. I would expect the Wireless N speed to be at least 54mbps (megabits per second), which would be equivalent to 9 MegaBytes per second.
In practice the speed of transfer appears to be at 8mbps (1 MegaByte per second). Here is a screen shot:
The speed is the same whether I copy from the computer (on a wireless N link) to the NAS, or from the NAS (on a 100Mbit ethernet port on the E1200) to the computer.  The NAS is brand new, auto configured to a RAID-1 setup with two new drives.
Anyone know why this is?  is the encryption (WPA2-PSK/AES) slowing down the transfer? The same problem occurred with copying a folder of photos as with copying this large file.  I don't think I can upgrade the firmware on my device, as I have the first version of the E1200.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Sabretooth --
There is no option to set the Qos to zero.  I can set it to "auto" in which case the number has no effect.
I could set it to manual but it restricts me to a range as you can see from the graphic.
In case you are wondering, my internet speed is 10Mbps downstream, 5Mbps upstream.  So I am getting the same speed for the internet that I am getting for a local transfer.
The next troubleshooting step is to bypass the wireless and hook my PC to the router.  I will let you know if that makes a difference.

  • Slow file transfer speed on OS X / Windows LAN

I have a Mac Mini with OS X Server (Yosemite) on a network of 5 Windows 7 PCs, the server hosts FileMaker Server 13 and also some files in a shared folder.
I notice the file transfer speed when copying a file from one PC up to the server's shared folder is around 350KB/second, is this an acceptable speed? how could I improve it?
    Thanks for your help.

I'm having the same issues.. I recorded a bunch of video with the 4s.. now i'm copying them to my windows 7 pc with it peaking out at 900KB/sec.  My corsair thumb drive in the same port gets 5-10x this speed.  any luck getting faster speeds?

  • File transfer speed when on battery power

Hey there - I've noticed that my file transfer speed is ridiculously slow when i'm not plugged in to a power source. Even when my battery is fully charged it's super slow. This happens not only when I'm uploading files from a memory card to my computer but when I'm attaching files to an email, or even sending an email.  I've asked other mac users and they say this is not the norm for their machines....any ideas?
    thanks!

additionally, you can disable power menagement for your wireless card completely through iwconfig's power option. I suggest you read the manpage for iwconfig, I have quotes the 2 related options for you.
    txpower
For cards supporting multiple transmit powers, sets the transmit power in dBm. If W is the power in Watt, the power in dBm is P = 30 + 10.log(W). If the value is postfixed by mW, it will be automatically converted to dBm.
In addition, on and off enable and disable the radio, and auto and fixed enable and disable power control (if those features are available).
    Examples :
    iwconfig eth0 txpower 15
    iwconfig eth0 txpower 30mW
    iwconfig eth0 txpower auto
    iwconfig eth0 txpower off
    power
Used to manipulate power management scheme parameters and mode.
To set the period between wake ups, enter period 'value'. To set the timeout before going back to sleep, enter timeout 'value'. You can also add the min and max modifiers. By default, those values are in seconds, append the suffix m or u to specify values in milliseconds or microseconds. Sometimes, those values are without units (number of beacon periods, dwell or similar).
off and on disable and reenable power management. Finally, you may set the power management mode to all (receive all packets), unicast (receive unicast packets only, discard multicast and broadcast) and multicast (receive multicast and broadcast only, discard unicast packets).
    Examples :
    iwconfig eth0 power period 2
    iwconfig eth0 power 500m unicast
iwconfig eth0 power timeout 300u all
    iwconfig eth0 power off
iwconfig eth0 power min period 2 power max period 4
    website with the current manpage:
    http://linux.die.net/man/8/iwconfig
    or simply:
    $ man iwconfig

  • Migrate Roles failes when migrating VMs with legacy network adapters (2008R2 - 2012)

I'm working on a upgrade of Hyper-V 2008R2 cluster to Hyper-V 2012 cluster. I am using the "migrate roles" feature of failover clustering to migrate the CSV's and VM's. The wizard ask to which switch the VMs need to be connected on the target cluster.
All VMs with network adapters can be started in the new cluster without any issues. If you look at the XML file of the migrated VMs with normal network adapters, a new XML has been generated in the proper 2012 format. However, all VM's with a legacy
network adapter fail to start. Also there is no migrated XML file in the VM directory. It is impossible to check or adjust the settings of the migrated VMs with legacy network adapters using the failover clustering console.
I have reproduced the issue in my lab several times, and it seems like a bug.
There are several workarounds, but I am looking for a real solution.

    Hi,
We recommend that you use the legacy network adapter only to perform a network-based installation or when the guest operating system does not support the network adapter.
If the virtual machine continues to use the legacy network adapter it will not be able to leverage many of the features available in the Hyper-V virtual switch. You may want
to replace the legacy network adapter after the operating system is installed.

  • K8T Mstr2-FAR7 ---- File Transfer Speed

I measured file transfer speed between partitions, 1) both in the same physical drive and 2) each in a different physical drive. The measurements were made on WXP and WVT by using a file having 1048MB in size. Results are as follows:
    1) Partitions in the same physical Drive
    WXPx86 : 18.55 seconds
    WVTx86 : 38.91 seconds
    2) Each partition in different physical drive
    WXPx86 : 9.31 seconds
    WVTx86 : 19.13 seconds
Are the above results normal? Vista's speed appear way lower than the maximum allowed by SATA-150.  The speed may be affected by many factors. My hardware spec is shown below.  RAM is in single channel mode and is running as DDR333.
Could anyone shed light on the matter of file transfer speed?

It's because Vista is buggy, everybody knows this.
If you want speed, use XP.
And that isn't the only problem with Vista, also graphics is 3x faster under XP.

  • IPhone File Transfer Speeds

I have two MacBooks and two iPhones and I'm seeing very different file transfer speeds between the two. Both have the backup option manually disabled to improve sync times.
Setup 1: iPhone 3GS with MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008) model
Setup 2: iPhone 3G with Black Macbook (13-inch Mid 2007) model
The time it takes to sync video between the two is drastic with the newer model copying files in a few seconds, and the older setup copying files over 5-10 minute periods.
I have yet to swap the two iPhones on the two computers but from a technical perspective, I don't understand why one would transfer files faster than the other. Both are using USB 2.0 and I've already tried using the same cable for both. Anyone see similar behavior? Is this a facet of the older computer or older iPhone?

As an example, a USB host on a PCI bus will send or receive the data via the PCI bus; the stack will prepare the next data in memory and receive interrupt from the host. That's what I mean, how that's implemented.

  • File to RFC with multiple records using BPM Scenario Error...!!!

    Hello Guru's,
I have done the File to RFC with multiple records using BPM scenario as per the Materiel available in the sdn.sap. This involves BAPI (BAPI_MATERIEL_AVAILABILITY). I have done exactly the same what is their in the materiel. SXI_CACHE is also giving return value " 0 ". File is getting deleted from the source directory, but no file in target directory. SXMB_MONI is also showing no error (black Flag). BPM is also error free. Checked the interfaces also.
Can any one tell me what mistake would i have done.
    Thanks in advance.

  • File transfer speed in Shared USB Hard Drive via Airport Extreme

I' am planing to buy one of this, but first I need to know what kind of file transfer speed I can expect when sharing USB drive via Airport Extreme 1000Mbps Ethernet.
    Thanks.

most likely 14m/sec but normally 10.5 this is ethernet wired and usb attached. wireless would be about 8M/sec
Wired is good enough I use it for Finder copy frequently.

  • How do I see file transfer speeds?

Hey guys, does anyone know if it's possible for me to see file transfer speeds instead of just the time remaining in Finder?

    Hi,
In song view, go to menu > view > view options and select bit rate, file type and size.
In preferences, you can change import settings to Apple lossless. When you use file > create new version you can now can now convert from aiff to lossless.
Create playlist based of file type being lossless.

  • No increase in file transfer speed?

AEBS n connected as a wireless bridge, all networks showing up. IMAC is wired to Linksys router and AEBS is ethernet connected to Linksys. I don't get any increase in speed in transferring files over the network between an IMAC and Macbook which are both n capable.

Definitely on the low side as a good connection at 2.4 GHz would be in the 110-130 range and 220-270+ at 5 GHz. You should see these values if your computer is within 10-15 feet of the router with no obstructions.
Might be worth the time to download a utility like iStumbler to get a look at signal strength and noise on your network. This will also display other networks around you that may be on the same channel or a close adjacent channel to your wireless, causing interference.
Any nearby cordless phones are always suspects as well. If you have them, turn them off for a few hours and restart the network to see if that makes any difference.
I assume that the wireless card in the computer is up to speed with other connections, etc., otherwise could be a loose antenna connector in the MacBook not allowing the available signal to be used.
