Incremental Loads and Refresh Date

Hi all,
Thank you for taking the time to review this post.
Environment
Oracle BI Applications 7.9.6 (Financial & Project Analytics)
Oracle E-Business Suite 11.5.10
Question
I have a Test BI Apps 7.9.6 in a Test environment that is connected to a static EBS 11.5.10 data source. As part of my testing phase I'd like to do multiple Incremental Loads to get an accurate performance impact and timing study for the final pre-approval before migrating to Production. I can get a refresh of EBS which has a week's worth of transactions after my Initial Full Load. What I'd like to do is change Refresh Dates to "trick" the Incremental Load into only loading one days worth of data at a time, rather than the full week's worth of data in the Incremental load. Is this possible, and if so, how?
Example timeline:
Today - Initial Full load using Test EBS as of today
1 week later - Refresh static Test EBS from Production with a week of transactions
Post Refresh - Run daily Incremental jobs using static Test EBS
First Incremental Load - Today's position + 1 day,
Second " " - Today's position + 2 days,
Third " " - Today's position + 3 days, etc
As always all comments and solutions greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Gary.

Say on the 01st of the month, you did a Load.
Then on the 08th of the month, the source EBS system was itself refreshed.
What you want to do is to run a single day refresh on the 08th for all data from the 01st to the 02nd of the month), and then another single day referesh -- whether on the 08th or on the 09th , you don't care -- for all data from the 03rd to the 04th.
Unfortunately, the refresh is from last refresh date to current date. You can't define "refresh upto date". Therefore, your first 'incremental' refresh on the 08th would refresh all data from the 02nd to the 08th in one shot. What you could try to do is
a. After the first load on the 01st, shutdown the BI DWH.
b. When the EBS test source is refresh on the 08th, reset your SYSTEM CLOCK ON THE BI DWH DATABASE SERVER to the 2nd (or 3rd) of the month.
c. Now, when you run a refresh, BI will extract all data from the 01st to the 02nd or 03rd (even though EBS is as of the 08th).
d. Once this is done, shutdown BI DWH.
e. Reet the SYSTEM CLOCK ON THE BI DWH DATABASE SERVER to the 3rd or 4th of the month.
f. Run another Incremental Refresh.
... and so on ...

  • Schedule Full ETL, Incremental ETL and Refresh Dates

Hi - I'm trying to set up a schedule that runs a weekly execution plan on Saturday am. This weekly etl needs to be a full load always. I have a similar execution plan that I want to run all the other mornings as an incremental etl. I have the weekly plan set to run as 'Full Load Always'. Since it is set to run as 'Full Load Always', the refresh dates are not being set on the source tables. The second daily plan then initially runs as a full etl since the refresh dates are null. Is there a way I can accomplish scheduling the weekly execution plan to run as a full and then the daily execution plan to run as incremental without any manual intervention (such as manually resetting the source dates each week) ?
    Thank you.

You have to execute only 1 EP for both Incr and Full loads, followed by another custom EP which set the DAC refresh table(W_ETL_REFRESH_DT) column as NULL.
    ex:UPDATE W_ETL_REFRESH_DT SET LAST_REFRESH_DT =NULL
You need to schedule the custom ep to run on only Saturdays just before your actual EP start time so that you can have DAC refresh dates are null and follow load would be full load.
You need to create a custom etl mapping so that you can set this.. that might be a command from session or workflow.
If helps pls mark as correct :)

  • Incremental load not capturing data in SSIS 2012

    Hi ,
Iam having an issue with Oracle CDC for SSIS which is new in 2012, Developed SSIS packages with Full load and Incremental load logic to load data into ODS - STAGE - DWH. Here problem is when ever i do a full load following with an incremental load , incremental
load is not capturing updated data , if i do second incremental load then it captures data.
Is there any solution for this to get data in first incremental load.

Are you sure it picks up LSN correctly? I doubt its CDC service not picking the correct LSN value which it uses to identify the changes.
It should be in cdc.lsn_time_mapping table I guess

  • Sql loader and bulk data

    hi,
I want to insert 100,000 records daily in a table for the first month and then in next month these records are going to be replaced by new updated records.
there might be few addition and deletion in the previous records also.
actually its consumer data so there might be few consumer who have withdrawn the utility and there will be some more consumer added in the database.
but almost 99% of the previous month data have to be updated/replaced with the fresh month data.
For instance, what i have in my mind is that i will use sql loader to load data for the first month and then i will delete the previous data using sqlPlus and load the fresh month data using sql loader again.
    1. Is this ok ? or there is some better solution to this.
    2. I have heard of external files, are they feasible in my scenario?
    3. I have planned that i will make scripts for sqlPlus and Loader and use them in batch files. (OS windows 2003 server, Oracle 9i database). is there some better choice to make all the procedure automatic?
    looking for your suggestions
    nadeem ameer

I would suggest u use External tables since its more flexible then
sqlloader & is a better option.
    For using external tables
1)u will have to create a directory first
2)Generally creation od directory is done by sys, hence after creating the directory
privileges read & write to be provided to user .
    3)Creation of external tables.
    4) Now use the table as a normal table to insert ,update delete in
    ur table.
U can get more information from
    http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/9i/SQLNewFeatures9i.php#ExternalTables
Create Directory <directory_name> as <Directory path where file be present>
    Grant read,write on directory <directory_name> to <username>
    CREATE TABLE <table_name>
    (<column names>)
    ORGANIZATION EXTERNAL
    TYPE ORACLE_LOADER
    DEFAULT DIRECTORY ,directory_name>
    ACCESS PARAMETERS
    RECORDS DELIMITED BY NEWLINE
    FIELDS TERMINATED BY ','
    LOCATION (<filename>)
    PARALLEL 5
    REJECT LIMIT 200;
    Hope this helps.

  • Load and synchronize data

    Hi all,
I have some 500K users in a Sybase database table. I want to move the data into the Sun Directory server and keep the data synchronized. Sun IDM can do this job? Is there any alternate available?
    Thanks in Advance,
    B.

    Hi,
IDM is very powerfull and can do this but I believe it is not the right tool for the task.
What you want to do sounds like plain data synchronization which is only a subset of what IDM can do. Even if you want to use just the subset you still have to learn about many features like workflows, forms, activeSync,... to make it work.
If the decission about the directory server to use has not yet been taken, then by far the easiest way to solve your task would be to use a virtual directory. There are various vendors for those and they tend to be a lot cheaper than full blown identity management solutions. Virtual directories are specialized in serving relational, file based and ldap data via ldap by getting the data from the sources on the fly and doing some transformations. Some products offer good caching as well if that is a concern.

  • What is the best way to load and convert data from a flat file?

    Hi,
I want to load data from a flat file, convert dates, numbers and some fields with custom logic (e.g. 0,1 into N,Y) to the correct format.
The rows where all to_number, to_date and custom conversions succeed should go into table STG_OK. If some conversion fails (due to an illegal format in the flat file), those rows (where the conversion raises some exception) should go into table STG_ERR.
What is the best and easiest way to archive this?
    Thanks,
    Carsten.

    Hi,
thanks for your answers so far!
I gave them a thought and came up with two different alternatives:
    Alternative 1
I load the data from the flat file into a staging table using sqlldr. I convert the data to the target format using sqlldr expressions.
The columns of the staging table have the target format (date, number).
The rows that cannot be loaded go into a bad file. I manually load the data from the bad file (without any conversion) into the error table.
    Alternative 2
The columns of the staging table are all of type varchar2 regardless of the target format.
I define data rules for all columns that require a later conversion.
I load the data from the flat file into the staging table using external table or sqlldr without any data conversion.
The rows that cannot be loaded go automatically into the error table.
When I read the data from the staging table, I can safely convert it since it is already checked by the rules.
What I dislike in alternative 1 is that I manually have to create a second file and a second mapping (ok, I can automate this using OMB*Plus).
Further, I would prefer using expressions in the mapping for converting the data.
What I dislike in alternative 2 is that I have to create a data rule and a conversion expression and then keep the data rule and the conversion expression in sync (in case of changes of the file format).
I also would prefer to have the data in the staging table in the target format. Well, I might load it into a second staging table with columns having the target format. But that's another mapping and a lot of i/o.
As far as I know I need the data quality option for using data rules, is that true?
Is there another alternative without any of these drawbacks?
Otherwise I think I will go for alternative 1.
    Thanks,
    Carsten.

  • Problem with SQL*Loader and different date formats in the same file

DB: Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 - 64bi
    System: AIX 5.3.0.0
    Hello,
I'm using SQL*Loader to import semi-colon separated values into a table. The files are delivered to us by a data provider who concatenates data from different sources and this results in us having different date formats within the same file. For example:
    ...;2010-12-31;22/11/1932;...
I load this data using the following lines in the control file:
    EXECUTIONDATE1     TIMESTAMP     NULLIF EXECUTIONDATE1=BLANKS     "TO_DATE(:EXECUTIONDATE1, 'YYYY-MM-DD')",
    DELDOB          TIMESTAMP     NULLIF DELDOB=BLANKS          "TO_DATE(:DELDOB, 'DD/MM/YYYY')",
    The relevant NLS parameters:
    NLS_LANGUAGE=FRENCH
    NLS_DATE_FORMAT=DD/MM/RR
    NLS_DATE_LANGUAGE=FRENCH
If I load this file as is the values loaded into the table are 31 dec 2010 and 22 nov *2032*, aven though the years are on 4 digits. If I change the NLS_DATE_FORMAT to DD/MM/YYYY then the second date value will be loaded correctly, but the first value will be loaded as 31 dec *2020* !!
How can I get both date values to load correctly?
    Thanks!
    Sylvain

This is very strange, after running a few tests I realized that if the year is 19XX then it will get loaded as 2019, and if it is 20XX then it will be 2020. I'm guessing it may have something to do with certain env variables that aren't set up properly because I'm fairly sure my SQL*Loader control file is correct... I'll run more tests :-(

  • SQL*Loader and binary data

i have a C routine that builds SQL*Loader input files. the input files contain multiple records, with a couple of integer columns and a raw(1400) field. the control file specifies a record separator of '|', which seems weird (having text in the middle of raw data) but also is somewhat co-operative (see below).
so i basically write each integer to the file, then a short (2-byte) length value for the raw field, then the raw field. then the '|' separator.
i've noticed that if the size of raw field is 400 bytes or less, everything works fine, i get the correct number of records in the database.
unfortunately, with a size of 401 or more, SQL*Loader parses the thing into twice as many records as it should. so if i've written 3 records to my input data file, with each record's raw field at 400 bytes or less i get 3 records loaded. but any with a raw field of 401+, i get two records for each.
any ideas why? and how to correct this? also, any ideas on a better way to do this? all the examples of large data in the online doc and the o'reilly book favor showing examples with large character data, which does me not much good.

  • SQL Loader and formatting dates

I've got dates formatted like so: 2012-05-10T17:04:51-08:00
How can I get SQL Loader to load these into a Date column??
    Thanks

    Thanks for the reply-
SQL Loader is running on Win, Oracle 11 on Linux
    The format is standard UTC
YYYY-MM-DDTHH24:MI:SS±HH:MM Where the ±HH:MM refers to time zone offset from GMT. The "T" is just a separator between date and time (and is always "T").
I looked at your references, and tried a few dozen variants without success.
Most of my attempts have been using something similar to this
    "YYYY-MM-DDTHH24:MI:SSTZH:TZM"
    or this:
    "YYYY-MM-DD'T'HH24:MI:SSTZH:TZM"
    or this:
    'YYYY-MM-DD"T"HH24:MI:SSTZH:TZM'
    Thanks

Ok, i have changed my classes a bit to try and fix the issue. I found a tutorial online called MJW avoider game or something and so i split some of my code in to seperate classes. But now the score doesnt update. I have fixed the loading issue (hopefully) i can access the main menu etc... but the highscore doesnt show at all after a game. Here are my classes.

  • Prioritize order of iView loading and refresh

Is there a way to specify the order iViews get loaded / refreshed on a page?
I have some iviews on Navigation panel that I would like to load before the iviews loaded in the content area load. Unfortunately, they are loading the opposite way.
    Mark

    Hi Mark,
There is no such ready to use feature to prioritize the order of iView loading.
The only way to achieve this is to use the EPCF client site eventing feature and reload the Iview one after another.
    Prerequisite:
IView should be URL Isolated on the Page
    Example senario:
You have two IViews A and B and you want to load A after B loads. In IView B have a script to refresh IView A.
    EPCM.raiseEvent("urn:com.sapportals:pagebuilder", "refresh", )

  • VB macro to connect and refresh data in smartview

    Hi All,
I imported a hyperion financial report into smartview power point. i want the following steps to be automated.
    1) make a connection to data source
    2) perform refresh all command
    3) save the power point
    4) close the point
Is this possibe and can you please share some ideas or VB macro code?
    Thanks
    Ashok

    we tried the function
    For Refresh
Public Declare Function HypExecuteMenu Lib "HsAddin" (ByVal vtSheetName As Variant,ByVal vtMenuName As Variant) As Long Sub Example_ExecuteMenu() sts = HypExecuteMenu("Sheet1", "Panel")  'returns 0 sts = HypExecuteMenu(Empty, "Smart View->Refresh") 'returns 0 sts = HypExecuteMenu("Sheet1", "Refresh")  'returns -73(ambiguity) sts = HypExecuteMenu("Sheet1", "Connections")  'returns -15(invalid parameter because "Connections" is not associated with an action) End Sub
but throwing the error as ,no sheet to refresh,do you know the reference names to use in ppt instead of sheet1 mentioned in the above example?

  • Load and unload data

    Hi,
maybe this newsgroup isn't appropiated to my question, however I didn't found response even in borland newsgroups.
    Well, I have a JdbTable linked to a QueryDataSet. I defined a
QueryDescriptor to load results as needed.
It works well, when i am at the last line of my table, next results
    are loaded.
My problem is that I would like to have the same mechanism for results
before the first line. I mean, when I am at the last line, I would like that the next results are loaded while the previous results are unloaded. And when i am at the first line of my table and i go up, i want load previous results and unload ones which are after.
For example, for a JdbTable that has 25 visible lines, it will be like
a window (of x lines) on the associated DataSet (maybe corresponding
to thousands of results). A window that could be moved up and down.
I hope I have been comprehensible.
Does anybody have an idea, is there a method to purge or unload data
    from a dataset??
    Any suggestion will be appreciated.

the classes come from the com.borland.* package
    (com.borland.datastore, com.borland.dx.sql.dataset)
you can find these classes in the lib directory of
    jbuilder

  • How to set from and to date correctly on an incremental ETL for grouping granuality

    Hi,
I have a principle design question that is relevant for any ETL tool.
I have a three field record with Id,groupId, timeKey
    For example records can be:
    1,1,01012014
    2,1,01012014
    3,1,01022014
I need to group the records to on groupId according to increment timekey.
    Select groupId
    where timekey = 010102014
The groupId needs to be a primary Key
The issue is - That there will always be records that will be split by the timekey in the increment load, and then the situation can be that the groupId will get duplicate.
In this example - groupId 1 will be selected twice for two different timekeys.
So the question is - What can be a best practice for avoiding the above situation in the increment load ?

How can GroupID be a primary key. As per the displayed sample it will never be PK. As I understand its a group identifier so you're going to have same id for all records within a group. Ideally I think combination of groupid + datekey would be primary key.
And in case incremental load picks up data for multiple days you need to ensure it generates a separate groupid for each date.
Currently how is groupid generated? does it come from source or is it generated within ETL?

  • Pages slow to load or do not load, then time out, sometimes stopping page from loading will reveal it or stopping and refreshing it, though not always.

pages will not always load or take forever, if i stop it from loading and refresh it it may load right away though not always. It is like the old days @ 33K, never used to happen, basically have all the same plugins have always had.
has been doing this for several months now, finally can't take it any more, all malware, virus, scans are clean, settings are the same for last ? years.
do get script problems from time to time but not very often.
loading say New egg, will take forever or will not completely load page, have backed up all bookmarks, etc: removed and reinstalled but no change.
any Ideas would be of great help. I have been using Firefox, since it's inception and don't want to switch browsers.
    Thank You,
    Mark

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
