InDesign for pic in email html?

Hi. I picked up the adobe a few months back to create business cards and fliers etc... and maybe do some photoshop things.
I have the cs4 package with fireworks,bridge,photo shop,illustrator, indesign etc....
The cards and fliers worked out well. I created them in inDesign and sent them out as a Adobe PDF preset- PDF/X1a:2001. to the printer.
With times getting ruff here I also decided to create an e-mail letter and copy and paste the Adobe PDF I created for the business card into the email body. I did a test or two and it seamed to be good.
After pasting and clicking and sending out about 150 emails, I'm getting responses saying the attachment wasn't clear (I didn't think I sent an attachment and that I placed it in the email), or to send more info (which the info was on the card).
So I'm thinking the "card" didn't get through properly.
Is the card in the wrong format? Can I get it from inDesign .indd through the bridge to get it to what I need? What do I need to get it to?
I started reading and think it might have to be html.... then I keep reading and it mentions computers may reject it thinking its spam or something.
If anyone can help out I would appreciate it.
I'm on a Mac Pro 10.5.8 and I'm guessing alot of these emails will be going to people on PC's if that makes a difference.

1. InDesign isn't really the right tool to create HTML with -- best you can hope for is something to get started with, with a dedicated HTML editor such as Dreamweaver (although I think that's more geared towards creating entire sites, not really a single page).
2. It entirely depends on the receiver's mail program and settings. At least some mail programs can display a PDF "inline"; but while most can display HTML and images "inline", it's up to the user. If s/he has the mail settings set to accept text-only, even simply styled HTML text won't come through. In addition, some mail servers refuse to pass through attached images.
In Mac OS X mail you can select any 'styled' mail you got and then choose "View -> Message -> Plain text alternative" to see how it appears in the safe "text-only" mode.
3. Best is to upload your work onto a web site, and *always* provide a link. This is at the very top of the InDesignSecrets newsletter I'm subscribed to:
"Email not displaying correctly? View it in your browser."

This sounds like the age old problem with keychain & Safari. I don't know of a way to solve it without using something like 1Password.
The iOS app has it's own built in browser, so it has more control over what gets autofilled. Safari on OS X has an 1Password extension that handles account selection & autofill etc.
Keychain is great in principle, but it quickly falls down when you need tight integration with many ID's & different use cases (work, home etc).
I'd suggest you submit feedback to Apple about your thoughts. I did so years ago about this issue & this is how far we have come (back to the point where me.com synced passwords) :^)

Other tools like lastpass or keypassx may also help if you want to truly segregate password storage, but that doesn't fix autofill, the way around that issue is to dedicate one browser for work.

How to send existing email html including images

I used the JasperReport to generate a report in html formats.
The html page(containg the data) has a lot of images.
I need to send the html report by emails with the images saved in local drive.
So I used MineMulitipart way, but in existing ways the html part is just a few lines, you can define yourself.
For my stiuation, the html is already there and very complicated,contain mulitiple images.
How do I solve the problem still using MineMulitipart?

you basically have 2 options for images in HTML emails:
Option 1) you can embed them as file attachments and reference them with no path (only the file name) in the img tag. This is good because the recipient will see the images even if he does not have an internet connection. But this is bad for several reasons: Each email will be large since it contains several attachments, thus large traffic on your SMTP server if the volume is high. Also, many email clients might not support this configuration. I would not normally recommend this option for these reasons, but sometimes this method can be prefferable if the recipient's email client is known to support it (Outlook, Outlook Express), and if the recipient is behind a firewall and does not have internet access.
Option 2) the other, (preferrable) option is to serve the images on a publicly available web server, preferrably on port 80. Reference each image with an absolute URL to the file.
Also note you should attach a .txt Multipart for those email clients which do not support HTML. (pine or elm users stuck in 1987). Note there are issues with mail gateways, as well as different levels of HTML support within the email client itself... mail clients won't support JavaScript either.

Just bought a new macbook pro and in an email I can no longer find I read that you can use ID (InDesign) for a fee of $25 annually?!? Is this right and if it is can someone tell me how the heck to buy it.
On another note how much is PS (Photoshop) and (AAP) Adobe Acrobat Pro?
These are the only three pieces of software I need so I don't want to have to pay the $29.99 per month for all applications.

School diary in Indesign for DPS

Does anyone know if you can create a reliable school diary in Indesign for DPS that can be used for daily planning and reminders?

If you mean, that the student can use it to add homework etc. to a list then no, not without a bunch of html and custom code.

Indesign for print set up

I am currently working on a project containing a variety of print media, all of which will be exported as a pdf directly from Indesign. What I dont understand is which colour profile to set for each of my prgrams within creative suite (obviously these all need to be the same). I aim to send these to a printer within the U.K, how do I select the correct profile? Does it really make a big difference?

For print work in the UK or Europe, I would suggest using "Europe Pre Press 2 (FOGRA 27)" as your profile as you are more likely to find a local printer using this or a similar profile. However, if you are concerned, you could always ask the printer and see what profile they suggest. Our training team would like to use InDesign to convert paper manuals to online manual.
What are the pros and cons of using InDesign for online manual. They also would like to have interactivity (e.g. exercises) created in certain part of the manual. Can it be done with InDesign? How easy is it to convert Word documents (it was originally created in) to InDesign and then to something viewable on SharePoint. What are the options in saving the files as interactive online manual? HTML? Flash? HTML5?

How to set images / pics in emails so they will always be opened when email.

I would like to know if anyone has an auto show of pics in their 9850 / 9860 devices. I have to go in under the BBM menu button and select( get image) to get pics in emails.

Lost all graphics/pics in email?

New to the Whole Mac world only had my new iMac for a couple of weeks. for some reason all of a sudden, i no longer get any graphics or pics in any email messages? Just an empty box with a small question mark inside like im missing some sort of plugin? I have java, flash, so not sure what is missing or where it went. I havnt made any major changes since ive gotten the computer. Ive checked all the menues for any option to show or not show pics in email but did not find any.

Some accident with all the warning messages provided about the iPhone being associated with iTunes library on another computer and if you proceed all iTunes content and photos transferred from another computer will be erased first which must be accepted.
If never connected to iTunes on any computer, the first time a new iPhone is connected to iTunes on a computer used for syncing with another iPhone or iOS device, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device to the new iPhone, or set up the new iPhone as a new iPhone.
Choosing the former, all data on the iPhone is replaced and lost. Not so when choosing the latter.
Sounds like you chose the former and if so, all data that was on her iPhone is gone. iTunes content purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store can be re-downloaded at no charge, but the Camera Roll contents and contacts are gone.

Can the Post Results box for name and email be resized?

Depending on the size of the browser window the box that asks for name and email for posting quiz results can be very small. Is there any way to resize it? This is with Captivate 6 and Scalable HTML Content turned on.

These are run time messages and you can change it by the below steps:
If you want to modify specific labels that you can't modify through Captivate, you can do this with the file strings.txt, that is located in Adobe Captivate instalation folder >en_US
1. Open file
2. Modify whatever label you want
3. Save.
4. Rename to strings.zdct
5. Replace original strings.zdct file
6. Restart Captivate
I suggest you backup original strings.txt and strings.zdct files - just in case.
