Index generating problems

I placed a document originally made in Word that includes index codes into Indesign CS6 but can't generated an Index. All the "topics" are there but the codes in the document seems to be gone. I just did the same thing with two other books and they worked fine. Am I missing a setting?

Your cover probably doesn't need to be in the book. Most people do the cover as a separate document—sometimes with the back cover and spine in one spread, and sometimes with three separate pages or documents, one each for cover, spine and back cover.
To elaborate on Ellis's suggestion, if you have a title page that resembles the cover, or if you have front matter that you don't want to be counted in the page count, renumber those pages with another type of number, like Roman or letters, then create a new section start on the first page as page 1 (do this in the Pages window).

Indices configuration for XML document analysis (indexing time problems)

Hi all,
I'm currently developing a tool for XML Document analysis using XQuery. We have a need to analyse the content of a large CMS dump, so I am adding all documents to a berkeley DB xml to be able to run xqueries against it.
In my last run I've been running to indexing speed problems, with single documents (typically 10-20 K in size) taking around 20 sec to be added to the database after 6000 documents (I've got around 20000 in total). The time needed for adding docs to the database drops with the number of documents.
I suspect my index configuration to be the reason for this performance drop. Indeed, I've been very generous with indexes, as we have to analyse the data and don't know the structure in advance.
Currently my index configuration includes:
- 2 default indicess: edge-element-presence-none and edge-attribute-presence-none to be able to speed up every possible xquery to analyse data patterns: ex. collection()//table//p[contains(.,'help')]
- 8 edge-attribute-substring-string indices on attributes we use often (id, value, name, ...)
- 1 edge-element-substring-string index on the root element of the xml documents to be able to speed up document searches: ex. collection()//page[contains(.,'help')]
So here my questions:
- Are there any possible performance optimisations in Database config (not index config)? I only set the following:
setTransactional(false);
envConf.setCacheSize(1024*64);
envConf.setCacheMax(1024*256);
- How can I test various index configuration on the fly? Are there any db tools that allow to set/remove indexes?
- Is my index config suspect? ;-)

Hi Nils,
The edge-element-substring-string index on the document element is almost certainly the cause of the slow document inserts - that's really not a good idea. Substring indexes are used to optimize "=", contains(), starts-with() and ends-with() when they are applied to the named element that has the substring index, so I don't think that index will do what you want it to.

We have a need to display the indexes generate by TREX for SM7.0 KM and EP7.0 KM.
Please help tell how to do it?

Well, the above would not help in OS level.
The Design is, TREX always stores the indexed pointers to the actual data in it's database rather OS level.
But at OS level, you can find details about how TREX has been configured and managed.
The typical path would be <Drive>:\usr\sap\<SID>\TRX<Instance number>\<Host name>
In this path, you find all *.ini files which contains the configuration details apart from regular 'work', 'log', 'trace' directories.

Generate Index causes problems - any solution yet?

Hi all,
I searched the forum and knowledgebase, but i'm totally puzzled.
What is the best solution to avoid Indesign CS3 (5.0.3) from crashing when generating an index from a book with multiple documents containing references?
Is it the script from Ole to convert the book to one document?
Is it updating preview on each document (updating preview also crashes)?
Is it something else? Or is there a plug-in i could use?
As I said before, i have Indesign CS3 version 5.0.3.

Dsee 6.2, idsconfig, vlv index processing problems

Hey Folks,
I ran into a problem where the idsconfig script failed on creating 4 vlvindex entries. I had to modify the script to allow me to troubleshoot the problem. I ended up fixing the problem manually, but I'm still not to sure why it happened to begin with. It seems like a race condition, but i could be dead wrong. I thought it might have been the way I answered the idsconfig questions but I went over it quite a bit. This post may be a bit long, but I want to provide enough information.
- Solaris 10 08/07 fully patched (using smpatch) as of 1/10/2008
- DSEE 6.2
- idsconfig that comes bundled with Solaris 10 08/07
- All this is being done inside a logical domain (ldom) on a T2000 using a file image as a disk
The first thing I did was make the following modifications to the idsconfig script so it would not exit on error while adding vlv index entries, and also commented out the cleanup process so I could view the temp file created by idsconfig

Thanks for the response. Sorry about not including the logs. I should have. I have gathered the full logs during the time idsconfig was trying to add the vlvindex entries. I did see that there where a few err=32 codes on the ADD operations on the entries that I had to add manually.
Here is one thing I did notice when I was adding the 4 entries manually. In each of the ldif files idsconfig creates, there are 2 entries as in the following example.

Submitting an image file for indexing generates the tokens "IMAGE" and "1"

This is a problem because the user is able to submit any file through a web interface, and we want to determine when there is zero output from the indexing process so we can warn the user that the file they submitted has no indexable content.
I'd rather keep the detection algorithm simple: currently it checks to see whether any tokens were indexed for the record the user just edited, and IF there were NO tokens, the user is warned that the file they submitted contains no indexable words. But if ctxhx.exe generates the string "Image 1" when someone gives it (for example) a jpeg file, that's not going to work.
So my questions are these: How do I prevent ctxhx from generating any tokens when someone gives it an image file? And if that's not possible, how can I include logic in a batch file to detect an image file and prevent ctxhx from handling it? (Since the files are renamed without extensions when indexed, I can't determine file type from extensions). I know there's a command-line program called TestForPDF.exe, which I found at http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/text/htdocs/altfilters.htm; is there a similar program (perhaps TestForImage.exe), or instructions for creating such a program?

I finally resorted to using the "format column" feature of the context index. The code in my front-end looks at the extension of the file submitted by the user, and sets the value of the format column to "IGNORE" before it tries to resync the index. It seems a bit kludgy, but it works.

Query Generator Problem

Hi, I'm having sounds like silly problem using Query Generator, if I execute this query it does not give me the 'selection list' for Fiscal Year. I'm using v8.8 PL10 but in v2007 it's working fine. If I use other table like OITM w/ fieldX =N'[%0]', its working in v8.8.

Hi, I think the problem has nothing to do w/ the SQL, because if I run it in v2007 it works but not in v8.8.

creating inner join w/ OFPR and make where condition in OFPR.[Code] is the alternative solution, but I want to use only the code above and let me have 'list selection'

I have noticed that if I use UDT in my SQL w/ variable selection the option for 'list selection' and right click on selection criteria 'List of Items' is not working. I'm using v8.8 PL10, is it a bug?

Spatial Index Creation Problem - 11g

Dear all,
I have a customer with a problem creating a spatial index in her database. The thing is, she is also storing rasters in the database in a different schema and those indices are created OK. Also in 2 other databases, mine & another consultant, the indices are created OK. The error is:

Jim,
We typically don't support these kind of schema names for Spatial schemas
as they have to be created with double quotes.
Like create user "3droads".
In this case, the schema name is the problem. They should pick a schema name
they can create without using the double quotes.

Running the demo which comes with oracles version of po.xsd was OK. What's the difference between the po.xsd from oracle and the po.xsd from W3C? Are there any W3C recommendation for XML Schema not supported by Oracle's class generator?

Sequence Generator problem in OWB Mapping

Hi,
I am using a Sequence Generator in my Dimension mapping. And OWB implements the mapping via an Oracle MERGE statement.
However when I execute the mapping my sequence number value gets incremented even when there are only updates and no inserts taking place during the execution.
I am using the sequence number only for inserts and not for updates in the mapping.
Is there a way to avoid this situation or a work around to this problem? This is very urgent and any help in this area would be greatly appreciated.

I also have the same problem as I loose the seq numbers when there are updates only and I do not want to loose thousands of seq numbers. I tried with bulk size =1 as well as row based only execution but no result.
The thing which solved this problem is to have outer join with source and target, then use splitter to find out new and updated records (by looking the join key as null on target table side), then use a fuction to generate seq number when the key is not null. But doing all this does not seem to be elegant performance point of you. I do not want to join source and target due to performance issues.
Could you pl clrify your apprach. Are you using , Source minus target and Source Intersect Target . What you will do if there is no one to one matching between source and the target.

PO generating problem

Hi experts,
I have a problem with PO. I am using BAPI_PO_CREATE1 function module for generating orders. Problems concern delivery dates. Generally when the del. date should be saturday or sunday system will automatically change this date to first working day - monday. Problem is because I need this saturday or sunday date.
During this PO generating in ME21N I've got the message "delivery date: next work day is XX" ...
Is there any method to prevent change of this date ?

Click on the message and get the message class. Use this message and number go to SE91 and do a where used list, before this message display there should be a Function Module which will determine next working day based on the Delivery date that is entered. Fix a User Exit or Enhancement point to pick up the initial date that was used.

Forms Generator problems

I'm trying to use form generator from Designer 6i rel 2.
I found big problems regenerating a migrated application.
Layout of most of my blocks is completely changed and I can't reproduce the previous behaviour.
I found some solutions using relative tabs but may problems are still there.
The biggest problems I've are on tab canvases :
1 - I use the same font as before (6.0) but the generated canvases are smaller and fields don't fit in it.
2 - The height of the tab canvases is smaller then before and form developer tries to reduce it every time I run it giging me a CDG-3484 "error"
3 - the stacked footer disappeared (sometime totaly somtime partialy).
Please give me any suggestion or idea.

We noticed the same thing when we started creating Headstart for Designer 6i. Some things we found:
- We used to always leave page width/height blank to get optimal layout. Now it seems to work better if you specify a value.
- We found that we get better results when we explicitly specify height and width on all displayed items as well. (We didn't used to ever specify a width on a date column, nor height on any column that we wanted to default to 1.)
- Designer used to widen the page when an individual item was too wide. Now it narrows the item.
- Designer has changed its algorithm for determining item width.
- Designer has added new objects in its object library for Display Only (_DO) objects which affects the layout of these objects particularly.
Of course, using Headstart we had the luxury of knowning that our object library, template form and preference settings had not changed. If you are using the Designer default object library, template and preferences, I recommend you carefully compare the old versus the new. There may be changes to these underlying objects which would of course affect your generated modules.

Pdf generating problem ?

I am generating pdf output type reports with Oracle Reports .
I am getting problem while trying to open the pdf file.
My Problem is " There was an error opening this document.
The file is damaged and could not be repaired ".
Why i am getting this kind of problem ?
If i see the size of pdf , it is showing 1456kb.
Any thing wrong at the time of pdf generation ?
How many number of pages of report pdf supports ?
In my database i have 55 thousand records for this report.
Is this the problem with more no.of records showing in the same pdf file ?
Is there any limitation to show the no.of records in oracle reports ?

You should make sure that you are on the latest patch set (patch 10 from metalink). If this still reproduces then I would suggest you contact Oracle Support and work through the issue with them

Schema Class Generator Problem

I'm getting this error msg when I do the following command line:
$java oracle.xml.classgen.oracg -s MySchema.xsd
<Line 455, Column -136>: XSD-2028: (Error) Invalid reference: 'http://www.w3.org/2000/10/XMLSchema:dateTime'
My XSD's header looks like this:

class generator datatypes in 9.0.1. This will be updated and in 9.0.2beta (upcoming in few weeks) release.

I use weblogic.ejbc to compile my bean but it has an error "Code too long" with try-catch block in myprogram_Weblogic_CMP_RDBMS.java....
What's the problem becouse ejbc generate that file from my weblogig-cmp-rdbms-jar.xml.
I use Weblogic 6.0 service pack 2 and include ejb20.jar and ejb.jar
How can I do that? Please help.
