    I need your help to solve my question.
    I developed a Servlet + jsp application.

  • Print GregorianCalendar using JSTL

    I have a GregorianCalendar property (for example exchange.rateDate) and I want to print it in a jsp page using jstl tags.
    How can I solve this problem?
    liviu

    If the object you are trying to print is a GregorianCalendar, then you need to get the time property of the Calendar, which returns a Date object; the formatDate tag cannot handle a "raw" GregorianCalendar.
    Using the previous example, it should be:
    <%@taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/fmt" prefix="fmt" %>
    <fmt:formatDate value="${exchange.rateDate.time}" type="date" dateStyle="SHORT"/>
    <fmt:formatDate value="${exchange.rateDate.time}" type="date" pattern="dd/MM/yyyy"/>

  • Retaining of values in JSP while using JSTL

    Dear All,
    I have an application using the struts framework, wherein I am facing a problem.
    Here goes the problem " In my JSP's I have multiselect, the JSTL tags works fine when all the server side validations are done. But I get a problem when an error(server side validation error) occurs, I have to retain all the multiple values selected in the Multiselect box.
    Can anyone suggest me best way to retain the multiple values.
    E.g. My multiselect populates 5 values
    A
    B
    C
    D
    E
    As a end user I select "B, C,E", and a server side validation error occurs I have to keep the values "B, C, E" selected in the above list of 5 values using JSTL
    Thanking you in anticipation.
    regards,
    Mohan.

    Dear Friend,
    The control I am placing(multi select) has the data type in the form as String[],
    The validation error(server side) I was talking about is: I have 5 fields in JSP, in one of the 5 fields I have a title, which is unique in the database, if the end user enters an already existing title, then all the values previously (entered, selected) for rest of the controls should be retained and an error message from application resources is populated about the title duplication.
    Here I will show the entered values in text box and also the multi-selects, so using JSTL, I want a way out to retain the previously selected values....
    In my JSP for the control I say <input type="select" property="propertyname" multiple="true">

  • Posting huge data on to JSP page using JSTL tags

    Hi,
    I have one application where I have to post huge data (approximately 2000 rows of data) into JSP page. I am using JSTL tags and running on Tomcat 5.
    It is taking almost 20 to 25 seconds to load the entire page.
    Is it the optimal time to load or it could be improved?
    Please let me know.
    Thanks,
    --Subbu.

    Hi Evnafets,
    Thank you for the response.
    Here are the tasks I am doing to display the data on JSP.
    0. We are running on Tomcat 5 and the memory size is 1024MB (1GB).
    1. Getting the data - I am not performing any database queries. The data is stored in the static cache memory. So the server side response is so quick - less than a milli second.
    2. Using Java beans to pass data to the presentation layer (JSP).
    3. 10 'if' conditions and 2 'for' loops and 2 'choose' statements are being used in the JSP page while displaying the data.
    4. Along with the above, there are 4 javascript files are being used.
    5. The jsp file size after rendering the data, is aprox. 160 kb
    Hope this information helps you to understand the problem.
    Thanks,
    --Subbu.

  • Using JSTL variables in JSP or Javascript. Possible ?

    Hi All,
    Is it possible to share or use the variables which are declared are used by JSTL in JSP expression or scriplet code and in Java Script.
    Example:
    This Works:
    <fmt:set var="test" value="JSTL" />
    <fmt:out value="${test}" />
    But, this gives error:
    <% out.println(test) %>
    And passing the value of variable 'test' to Java Script code also gives error.
    How to use JSTL variables in JSP and in Javascript ?
    Yours,
    Sankar.B

    By default, JSTL variables are kept in servlet
    attributes. Default is to store it in the page
    context. You can make it request/session/application
    scope as required by an attribute of the set tag.Hi there,
    Can anyone advise how to access JSP variables in JSTL?
    Can it be done as the same method through request/session/application scope?
    Thnks...

  • JSP Worked Well Using Scripting Elements, But, Becomes a Null Using JSTL

    I have to bother all of you again with my JSTL problems. I am working on a JSP, which is very similar to the one that caused a lengthy discussion on this forum before. This JSP is a bit more complicated.
    Again, this JSP worked well and displayed what I expected when the page was coded using the scripting elements.
    I tried to use JSTL where possible and managed to correct all the compilation errors.
    Now, I got a simple message: 'null' in the browser without any explanation - typical problem working with JSP: very difficult to debug.
    I have tried to identify problems "one by one" and found the first encounter is where I want to set the background color for each row inside the <c:forEach ....> tag.
    I examined the code again and again, I could not see what would lead to 'null'. I need a hand again.

But when i submit task and then I access to worklist to see task detail, the error has show in page that "OracleJSP: An error occurred. Consult your application/system administrator for support. Programmers should consider setting the init-param debug_mode to "true" to see the complete exception message. " .

    Is the jstl tag libray loaded in the appsserver?
    Can you use jdbc connection like
    DataSource ds = ic.lookup("java:comp/env/jdbc/myDB");
    Connection con = ds.getConnection();
    DataSource ds = (DataSource) org.apache.derby.jdbc.ClientDataSource()
    ds.setPort(1521);
    ds.setHost("localhost");
    ds.setUser("APP")
    ds.setPassword("APP");
    Connection con = ds.getConnection();

  • How to send object arraylist from servlet to jsp and display using jstl

    Hi All....
    I have a simple application and problem with it.
    Once user logged in to system the user will redirect to LoginServlet.java controller.
    Then in LoginServlet I want to redirect user to another page called book_details.jsp.
    this is my login servlet.
    protected void doPost(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException, IOException {
              // TODO Auto-generated method stub
              PrintWriter out = response.getWriter();
              ArrayList<BankAccountDTO> account_list = new ArrayList();
              ResultSet resultSet = null;
              LowFairAirDB airDB = null;
              try{
                   airDB = new LowFairAirDB();
                   String query = "SELECT account_id, type, description, balance, credit_line, begin_balance, begin_balance_time_stamp FROM bank_account";
                   airDB.sqlSelect(query);
                   resultSet = airDB.getResultSet();
                   while(resultSet.next()){
                        account_list.add(new BankAccountDTO(resultSet.getInt(1),
                                                                     resultSet.getInt(4),
                                                                     resultSet.getInt(5),
                                                                     resultSet.getInt(6),
                                                                     resultSet.getString(2),
                                                                     resultSet.getString(3),
                                                                     resultSet.getString(7)));
              }catch(Exception ex){
              }finally{
                   try{resultSet.close();}catch(Exception ex){}
                   airDB.sqlClose();
         }I set bank account values to BankAccountDTO.java objects and add them to the arrayList.
    Next I want to send this objects arrayList to books_details.jsp and wanna display each objects values using JSTL.
    I still finding a way to go through this.
    1. Can anyone say how can I do it?
    2. Is there any other method to do the same thing without using JSTL?
    thanks in advance,
    Dil.

    In your servlet,

    Good. I would only follow the Java naming conventions. E.g. accountList or accounts instead of the ugly PHP/C conventions.
    In the JSP,
    lst = (List< BankAccountDTO >)request.setAttribute("account_list");
    for(BankAccountDTO b: lst){
    populate your HTML tags or whatever
    Wrong. 1) You need getAttribute() and 2) you should not use scriptlets. Use JSTL c:forEach, e.g.<table>
        <c:forEach items="${accounts}" var="account">
            <tr>
                <td>${account.id}</td>
                <td>${account.type}</td>
                <td>${account.description}</td>
            </tr>
        </c:forEach>

  • Programming JSP using JDeveloper 10.1.3 and JSTL

    Hello,
    I new in JDeveloper. I am creating a web proyect and I am programming a JSP. This JSP includes JSTL 1.1 Core, exactly the next line:
    <%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core" prefix="c"%>
    When I compile my proyect, obtain the next error:
    Error: java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: javax.servlet.jsp.tagext.TagAttributeInfo.<init>(Ljava/lang/String;ZLjava/lang/String;ZZ)V
    I ensured that this class (javax.servlet.jsp.tagext.TagAttributeInfo) has no that constructor (String, String, boolean) but when I consult the Sun documentation for that class, it is said that the class contain the constructor.
    My proyect include the next libraries defined in JDeveloper:
    · J2EE
    · JSTL 1.1
    · Strut Runtime
    · JSTL 1.1 tags
    Please, what should I do to do my proyect work?

    Constructor javax.servlet.jsp.tagext.TagAttributeInfo (String, String, boolean)
    is not defined. The JSP 2.0 constructor is
    TagAttributeInfo(java.lang.String name,
    boolean required,
    java.lang.String type,
    boolean reqTime,
    boolean fragment)
    Another constructor is
    TagAttributeInfo(java.lang.String name,
    boolean required,
    java.lang.String type,
    boolean reqTime)

  • JSP : latest  JSTL, File Upload from web form Client to Server Question!

    I understand that within a JSP, It is possible to read a file from the Client by opening a Stream somehow.
    How do I code, within jsp/servlet (non tag) java code inside <% %>
    blocks, WITHOUT openening a new connection to the URL, an InputStream from a client web browser form, from a file upload coded using
    <input type="file" name="file1"/> ?
    I have previously achieved this quite simply with a FileInputStream
    with the previous version of JSTL.
    How may I do this with the latest version of JSTL, with this index.jsp?
    -with a simple text file.
    -with a Binary file (with DataInputStream)?

    If I have:
    <!-- ***********************************************************************************-->
    <form name="form1" method="POST" enctype="multipart/form-data">
    <input name="file1" type="file"/>
    <input name="submit1" type="submit" value="Submit" action="index.jsp"/>
    </form>
    <!-- ***********************************************************************************-->
    and run this in an index.jsp, use browse to select my text file, and click SUBMIT.
    I can use:
    InputStreamReader reader = new InputStreamReader(new DataInputStream(request.getInputStream()))
    BufferedReader bufferedReader = new BufferedReader(reader);
    bufferedReader.readLine();...
    However, these is some HTML/POST related content around what multiple readLine();
    calls return.
    Is there an easy way, like using "${param.file1}",
    aside from [http://commons.apache.org/fileupload/|http://commons.apache.org/fileupload/],
    maybe using servlet style code, to get the File contents from a remote Client,
    to the remote Server servlet engine, AVOIDING ANY SUPERFLUOUS CONTENT,
    using version 1.12 of the JSTL, JSP 2.0,Tomcat 6?
    Just politely, yes, no, and how?

  • Accesing a List within A List Using JSTL

    Hi,
    I am trying to access a property of an object within a List Object which again is in a List object using JSTL.
    List----List----Obj1----Property1 <--( I want to print this in a Table on a JSP)
    I am unable to figure out how to do it using the <c:forEach> tag.
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi,
    Thanks for your response. Actually I wanted a single statement to do this. Its my mistake I should have put the question in a different manner.
    Something like
    <c:out value="${requestScope.OUTER_LIST.[FIRST_INSTANCE_OF_INNER_LIST].[OBJECT].[PROPERTY]}" ></c:out>The OuterList has many InnerLists and each InnerList has many Objects. The Property of the first Object in the InnerList is what I want to print as a 'Title' of a table.
    For example: The Objects in the Inner List are UserObjects, where all the Users of a particular type are put together in an InnerList. I want to display the users of different types grouped together and the Table should have the 'User Type' as its title.
    I could do it like this
    <tr border="2" class="selectedrow">
    <td><B><font color="#2d5c3d">User Type</font></B></td>
    <td><strong><font color="#2d5c3d">
    <!---I want to remove this with a single line of code-->
    <c:forEach items="${usersByType}"   var="user" begin="0" end="0">
          <c:out value="${user.userType}"></c:out>
    </c:forEach>
    <!---I want to remove this with a single line of code-->
    </font></strong></td>But I think there has to be a better way to do it.
