Indexes created in database

Hi,
on FSCM 91, on Win 2008, Tools 8.52, DB Oracle 11g.
If an index is created not in Application designer (but in for example in SQLPLUS) would it be used by PeopleSoft when browsing or running a batch by Process Scheduler ?
In other words the indexes for PeoplSoft should absolutely be created in Application designer ?

As far as I know PeopleSoft does not explicitly use optimizers in SQL like referring to specific indexes.
The indexes are used by the database (Oracle) when an sql is executed.
All objects you can create from Application Designer, should also be created from Application Designer.
This make them part of the PeopleTools metadata and therefore you can add these objects, also indexes, to projects and migrate to other environments using Application Designer.

When details are displayed the following message appears "Index does not exist in in database system". Which steps should be proceeded to create the index in DB? And what's the purpose if it's not created in DB?

How to get all INDEXes from a database

How to get all INDEXes in a database? I need to store them in script file (.SQL). My database version is 10.2.0.3.0.

Problem with blob column index created using Oracle Text.

Hi,
I'm running Oracle Database 10g 10.2.0.1.0 standard edition one, on windows server 2003 R2 x64.
I have a table with a blob column which contains pdf document.
Then, I create an index using the following script so that I can do fulltext search using Oracle Text.

However, the index is not searchable and I check the following tables created by database for my index and found them to be empty as well !!

I wonder what's wrong with it.
My user has been granted the ctx_app role and I have other tables that store plain text which I use Oracle Text are fine. I even output the blob column and save as pdf file and they are fine.
However the database seems like not indexing my blob column although the index can be created without error.
Please advise.

The situation is I have already loaded a few pdf document into the table's blob column.
After I create the Oracle text index on this blob column, I find the system generated index tables listed in my earlier posting are empty, except for the 4th table.
Normally we'll see words inside the table where those are the words indexed by oracle text on my document.
As a result, no matter how i search for the index using select statement with contains operator, it will not give me any result.
I feel weird why the blob is not indexed. The content of the blob are actually valid because I tested this by export the content back to pdf and I can still view and search within the pdf.

User defined tables: amending Index on the database level. Opinions???

Hi everybody who has some spare time to read my stuff
I had a problem that some of you might have had. I have a user defined table, lets call it ProductTypes. Now system by default creates two columns in this table, one is Code (primary key) and another is Name (Index). I have added third column called Department. Now, if I wanted to add the following data (see bellow) to the table I would have had a constraint violation message pointing me out that I have problems with indexing.
Code, Name, Department
1, Cream, Fragrances
2, Cream, Beauty Products

I could thing of couple workarounds of this problem
1. Is to duplicate Code into Name and storing rest of the data using user columns
Code, Name, Product Name, Department
1, 1,Cream, Fragrances
2, 2, Cream, Beauty Products
This approach isnt very convenient as it requires UI development should we decide to attach this table to the Item master data form in a form of combo box.
2. Is to amend Index on the database level. Initially, the index KProductTypes_Name consisted of only one column Name, what I have done is added another column which is Code to indexing. I dont see how this can harm database consistency or damage the core system. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Another way of amending index in order to solve my problem could be choosing ignoring duplicate values option for column Name.
Please let me know what are your thoughts.

in this scenario we would have to do UI SDK development for the output and going to have an extra column with meaningless data in it.

Beginners question about creating first database and tables

i recently have installed 10g express edition, because i want to transform my php-script from mysql to oracle database. (due to the fact that mysql is "not allowed sofware" at the company i work for).
it is a quit small script, just a shift-report system, build because of frustration about an used shift report system based on excel sheets. Company likes it, but IT-department rejected it, because it is myssql. They do own a lot of oracle servers, so they set up a database for me, got a username and password.(Tnsnames entry). The rest i have to do by myself, no further support from IT department.
I have made 2 simple php functions to connect to database:

Translating from mysql to Oracle will need a bit of fixups for the DDL, once an oracle instance is created, set up and running, you won't create a database but you will have a database user or users that create/own a collection of tables, indexes, functions, procedures, etc.
It will take a bit of pouring through the oracle documentation to get those table create statements to work, i.e. the engine=, charset=, auto_increment items won't succeed, datatypes need adjustments, the tic marks around the entity names aren't necessary, quite a few other items from the mysql data definition language don't have an oracle equivalent.

How to revert back of secondary indexes created?

I have craeted secondary indexes in development and they have been transported into quality and production. Some dumps are coming in the production because of these secondary indexes.
Please guide me how to revert back those secondary indexes from production(means to keep original with out that secondary indexes?)

Hello,
The best way to do this is delete the indexes again in DEV and create a transport request.
Transport this request to QA and PRD and the index will be deleted.
Via SE14 you can also delete the index immed in PRD.
SE14 will only delete the index from the database (shortdumps will disappear then).
Afterwards you can still use SE11 to delete the index from the SAP repository as well.

If you mean, is there some tool integrated into Xcode that will create a database, then the answer is "not that I know of".
Firstly, there are a number of "SQL" databases - e.g. MySQL - and they don't all have the same "flavour" of the SQL syntax. Sure, the basics are there (depending on which 'standard' they confirm to), but usually you want to create a database that has all of the views, indexes, etc. that are as optimised as possible - and that typically means using the additional keywords of the brand of SQL you are using.
Secondly, I an guessing that you are thinking of the Visual Studio capability of creating an MS-SQL database via the 'GUI' interface they provide.
However, there is nothing to stop you from accessing any type of SQL database from your code. I've quite successfully created and then accessed a MySQL database from code that I've written within Xcode. But you have to do all of the work!!!
If I've not understood your question, then perhaps others will correct me, or you can come back with something more.

Help with creating a database instance and populating it

the project given to me is to create a database and populate it in berkeley DB. use that as the backend to the Oracle Business Intelligence tool and run some tests.
with other databases like oracle, sybase and teradata, there were user interfaces both GUI and CLI to create a database. they provides sql interfaces for DDL/DML execution to create objects and populate them. basically these utilities helped me do my project successfully. but in berkeley DB i find very minimal utilities and they dont correspond to those provided by other databases.
is there an interface in berkeley db for sql execution

is there an interface in berkeley db for sql executionNo, Berkeley DB does not provide an SQL interface. It is a library that can be used to store and retrieve key/data pairs in a database. The Berkeley DB reference guide is a good place to look if you want to get an overview of Berkeley DB functionality:

There are a number of programming language bindings provided for Berkeley DB, including a Perl binding. So you can write your testing code in the Perl scripting language if that suits you.
If you intend to measure performance I would recommend using the C or C++ APIs to build your application. The best way to become familiar with using Berkeley DB is with the Getting started guides found here:

Or by familiarizing yourself with the example applications that are shipped with the source distribution.

Is there a way to create a database with Test Stand?

Anyone know of a way to have Test Stand create a database? My company standard MS Office suite is Microsoft Access 2010, and TestStand does not support the .accmdb extension type(format), so I have to create new databases using old formats. I'm worried about backwards compatability down the road since good ole Microsoft doesn't seem to care about legacy formats.
I'm still a beginner with databasing, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

TestStand 2012 SP1, and we are using a modified Generic Recordset (NI). The problem we are having right now is that the Build SQL instructions are not creating the database tables the way we are configuring them from the "Statements" and "Column/Parameters" tabs under Database Options.
What is happening is when we validate the schema, and drop all schema tables, it empties all the database tables, but then when you build using the TestStand generated sql file, we get errors(shown below) we are not understanding, and we can no longer write to the database and LabVIEW throws a "Data type mismatch in criteria expression" error like this

ERROR WHILE CREATING A DATABASE LINK USING HETEROGENEOUS SERVICES

I'm creating a database link with the Oracle Dataware Builder, and i get the following error:

Nombre del Método: getDDEntryFromDB.
Mensaje de Error del Repositorio: ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned this message:
[Generic Connectivity Using ODBC][Informix][Informix ODBC Driver][Informix]Incorrect password or user [email protected] is not known on the database server. (SQL State: 28000; SQL Code: -951)
ORA-02063: preceding 2 lines from PRUEBA_SEH
As you can see i'm using heterogeneus services to connect to a informix database. ALTIADM is a valid user for that database, i don't send my ip address 192.168.0.62, but the error says "[email protected] is not known in the database server". how can i solve it?????
