Infinity 80Meg service - BT speed tester results s...

I am confused when I use the ADSL and fibre to the cabinet it reports a connection of only 40 but that the line is set up for 80. Is this the wrong option? I still have a drop wire so pretty sure fibre to the premises isn't the right option. When I use the beta over 24meg this appears to report 75/6 which feels more accurate.
Have a missed something?
Thanks in advance for your help

That's very true "MISS" , it's getting better now I've got 8Mb D/L lol on the Beta 76.45Mb, How can BT get is so right and yet so wrong lol
I only use them as a snap shot nothing else as I'm lucky I can look at at my connection on an hour by hour basis which is a lot more accurate.

sky twitter account a customer ask why sky go streams are worst then sd and yet bt and eurosports apps stream in hd. Reply from mod, oh thats easy the files for hd are some huge that sky go can't play them and no app can stream hd due to this and so when they say they are they're really sd streams, if there was any way around this we would have done it now.

  • Brand new user of Extreme and express - surprising speed test results

    Dear All,
I had been using a linksys wireless router connected to a 20mps cable connection to send a wifi signal around my home. After a fair bit of research I upgraded to an airport extreme (wanted benefit of the gb ethernet ports and simultaneous dual band which the linksys did not have.)
So airport extreme set up nicely and speed test.net says I have download speeds of 19.23mbps on both my ipad and my macbook pro (2010). Signal does drop off in one part of the house so after a chat with the apple sales guy I also picked up an airport express to use as an extender. Using the excellent advice on this board mostly from Bob Timmons (found on a search) I was able to set express up and place in the part of the house where the signal didn't previosuly reach. It worked. So far so good. But, then an issue.
When the express is plugged in mbps on speed test drops from 19mbps to 4mbps on both the macbook pro and the ipad. Switch of the express reconnect the devices to wifi (I guess now they are focussing on the airport extreme) and speeds return back to the 19mbps!. Why would this be? And is there any way to fix it? The extra range is useful but not at the expense of all that speed.
    thanks
    Josh

    Setup looks correct.
Have you tried some different channel settings to see if another channel might work better?
For 5 GHz, you would want to choose one of the higher numbered channels 149, 153, 159, 161 and make sure that "enable wide channels" is checked in Wireless Options.
For 2.4 GHz the lower numbered channels are usually more crowded, so you might try one of the higher numbered channels for that band, maybe 9, 10, 11.
Apple routers seem to be very sensitive to interference. If you have a cordless phone there, try powering it off for 45-60 minutes and restarting the Extreme and Express to see if that makes any difference.
If you have time, you can scan to see what other networks are working around you with a utility like iStumbler.
If you do this, you may be surprised that "full bars" is not as much signal strength as you might have thought. The "bars" are there pretty much for show. They really don't tell you much about the real signal strength on the network and they don't tell you anything about noise on the network, which can drag down speeds.

  • SLOW INTERNET*PLEASE HELP SPEED TEST RESULTS ATTACHED

just wanted to share my results.
    http://www.speedtest.net/result/1013255725.png
    YOU'VE Got to check it!!!!!

When you ran the tests was your Anti-Virus operational?  I find that some antivirus programs (AVG) will cause bizarre speedtest results.  Temporarily disabling them when you run the tests may show more consistent results.
Your results are showing really high speeds, not slow internet speeds as your subject suggests.

  • Speed Tests Results for 802.11ac Wireless Connections

Using the new Apple MacBook Air with 802.11ac wireless, I tested copying a file and a folder to both the new 802.11ac AirPort Extreme router housing a USB-connected hard disk and the less recent 802.11n Apple AirPort Extreme router housing a similar USB-connected hard disk.
The results of the tests are summarized in the table below. The movie file was ripped from a DVD movie, and the Microsoft folder is simply the Microsoft Office 2011 folder in my Applications folder containing 14,231 items.
The MacBook Air computer was located 6–8 feet away from each router with no intervening obstructions. While this was not a scientific test, it demonstrated to me that 802.11ac wireless is clearly superior to 802.11n in a real world setting. I assume that the lower relative performance of 802.11ac versus 802.11n for the large folder containing many files is due to overhead in copying and writing files from and to the hard disks. Ditto for the Gigabit Ethernet test.

    Hiya,
I signed up to Bt broadband around a month ago and we have been so disappointed in the poor speeds we receive.
We previously had tiscalli and wish we never changed.
I have run the bt speedtest and also a speednet test.
Can anyone make sense of them?
The internet is sometimes useful but other times is ridiculously slow.

  • Speed issues result to HORRIBLE technician experience.

I have been having issues with my speeds (mainly my upload speeds) since Friday 06-19-2015.
Since the issue started my download speeds vary a small amount but nothing big.  My upload however....HUGE problem.
I am subscribed to the Blast 50 package which I was told would be 50Mbps down and 10Mbps up.
The techs I spoke with even confirmed for me that those speeds are guarenteed.
Before, I could test to servers all around the mid south with consistent good results.  Take note they were not all comcast servers.  They still did fine.
Now those same servers give me terrible upload results.
I understand that there are variables. However to drop from a consistent 12.9Mbps upload speed to a 1.5-2Mbps using the same servers as before is a problem.
I had some friends and my father (all comcast subscribers in the same area as me) do the same tests to the same servers and their outcome was great, no issues at all.  Just like mine was in the past.
I have tried talking to tech support who of course refreshed the signals and had me go over numerous tests again and again.
At first they didn't seem to want to help.  They seemed more concerned with selling me upgrades rather than fixing my issues.
Then they had me of course test to the closest server to me (same city I am in) and ignoring results from any of the other servers I tried to bring up.
Noting that even the server that's here is not giving me the same results as I would get before, but because they are over/at the expected 50Mbps down all is considered fine.
I finally got them to see results from another comcast server in my state that wasn't giving me the "passing" results (but it used to).
It wasn't until I started to really push that and the big issue wasn't my download speeds so much but my upload speeds (upload speeds are crucial for me) they started to get a little more involved.
Finally after some more tests they tell me that they do see an issue and they were going to escalate my problem.
Sunday 06-21-2015 I get a call from another tech who said they were from the comcast advanced technical support office who wanted to do tests (the same ones I did before) and
of course refresh the signals.  He also told me that he saw an issue.  Told me to wait 24 hours and test the speeds again.  The waiting 24 hour message to me just seemed like an out.
However the following day they did call me back to see if the issues were resolved.  They weren't.  So they scheduled a tech to visit Thursday 06-25-2015 between 8am-12pm.
Now the fun part begins.  I take the morning off Thursday 06-25-2015 which isn't easy for me to do.  I get no call ahead of time from the tech who comes out.
The tech just shows up and NEVER introduced himself to us, just walked right in.
He had an attitude from the very beginning.  Even told me it was "pointless to be here and a waste of time".  He didn't even bother listening to my problems or anything.
Telling me because my results were "passing" to the comcast server in my city I don't need to test to any of the others and the results are irrelevant.
He ran one test to check the carriers and that was it.  After his test my download speeds were not capped off at the set limit for Blast 50 internet anymore.
I am getting higher download speeds now (I'll explain this a little later).
While he was here I tried explaining to him that I noticed the cable for my house running up to the pole at the street has pulled loose and is just hanging off the pole.
Since to me it looks like it is close to the tap I wondered if it may have stressed the connection at the tap. So I asked him if he could just double check.
He tells me "it doesn't matter" and that "it wont affect anything". He never once acted like he wanted to do his job.  He was very unprofessional and overall rude the ENTIRE time he was here (which wasn't very long less than 10min).
He didn't want to bother actually checking to find any issues he just wanted to leave.  I mean as he said from the moment he stepped foot in my house, to him it was "a waste of his time".
It was also a waste of mine.  It was extremely infuriating and unacceptable.
Later Thursday evening I talked to another comcast tech that's out of state.  He looked over everything he could and told me that some how my modem config was pushed to the high tier speeds.
So right off the bat I should be getting at least 105Mbps down ... not the 88Mbps that's showing up.  That was a big red flag to him.  He also told me my upload speeds should be A LOT better.  Yet another red flag.
He then ran the health of my modem and told me the problem he saw was on the Upstream Rx Power.  Two errors there.  One red and one orange. That I definitely have an issue.  He asked me to check and make sure the cable was screwed in tightly from the wall to the modem (it is).
Also asked me if there were any splitters (there is not any that I'm aware of).  The line I have is dedicated solely to my main computer and that is it.  No other devices share the line.
After checking that stuff off he explains to me that it's beyond my control. That now I need another tech who cares to come out to check everything.  He felt that it could be a bad fitting, bad tap, or even a bad drop.
He also advised that the cable be checked to see if it is the correct size since my property is around an acre and a half to the house.
He said for sure something is wrong and he was very sorry for the previous techs attitude.
There is an issue for sure.  I can feel it, see it and it's a problem for me.  It's not the way it was before.
I pay for a service and expect good results.  What I have been getting since Friday 06-19-2015 is not what I pay for.
I am getting really tired of all the issues that comcast has created for me.
From a whole month of ordeals just to get it installed, cutting my phone line when they were burying the cable, the non-stop dancing on the phone, and now this.
It's getting very old and I haven't even had it a year yet.  I wonder sometimes if its even worth it.
I would like to get this issue resolved. Also if a tech needs to come out, I refuse to have the tech that showed up 06-25-2015 to come back to my property.

    Thanks for the tips.

  • Difference between BT Broadband Speed Test and all...

I have recently moved to BT Broadband from TalkTalk as I was dissatisfied with the speeds that I was getting with my TalkTalk line – they were OK outside of peak time but woeful in peak time.  With TalkTalk, I was on their ‘up to’  8Mbps which, in practice, translated to about 6Mbps for download outside peak times but dropped to below 1 Mbps in peak (around 500Kbps and sometimes even lower!) – these measurements were taken regularly with both the TalkTalk and Think Broadband speed tests which were usually roughly in agreement and I haven’t had to rely on memory as I downloaded the spreadsheet records available to Think Broadband registered users.
I am now posting this in the hope that somebody can explain the difference between the BT Broadband Speed Checker (Here) and all the others available on the web.
When you are first connected to BT Broadband they warn you that your speeds will vary over the first ten days while they test your line to ascertain optimum speeds for it.  During that time, I checked it every day early, mid-day and evening (usually around 0630, 1230 & 2000 hrs) with Think Broadband and, yes, it did vary – the first day it started at around 1Mbps for download but rose to 10Mbps by the end of the day. On the second day, it rose to a peak of 17.8Mbps which was unbelievably fast to use (well, to me anyway) but never reached that speed again as over the rest of the ‘test period’, the download speed dropped and dropped to the point where I am now outside of the BT test period and consistently seeing only 2 to 2.5Mbps over a 24 hour period.
I emphasise that those speeds were all recorded using Think Broadband but I am now doing tests using the BT checker mentioned above and the speeds which BT indicate for downloads are consistently in the 14 to 18 Mbps range.  If I do the BT and TB test in quick succession, they generally show the BT calculated speed to be better than that of TB by a factor of around 7 (ie.  TB at 2 Mbps whilst BT show 14Mbps).  Now either they are measuring different things (or the sams things differently) or one of them is lying – all I know is that my general browsing experience is slower outside of peak times and I can tell by the time it takes to load pages.
I might have misunderstood something in these tests but I am now beginning to regret that I fell I for the BT sales pitch which promised me ‘up to’ 20 Mbps but ‘more likely’ 17 Mbps.   I have tried to discuss thisl with BT Broadband technical support but they were no use whatsoever – indeed, I got the impression that he was reading from a script and as it didn’t cover my issue, I was wasting my time – it would also have helped for English to be his first language!
According to the BT test, I am well within their ‘minimum guaranteed access speed’ (Here).  for my area (about 4Mbps) and therefore cannot do anything about it.  BUT that is only when measured using the BT speed tester – with any other, I am well below.  I am beginning to feel very conned and might even start looking to withdraw from BT if I cannot get this settled.
Can anybody help.  I will happily post detailed records of my various tests or router stats if they will help.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Internet speed test EA6500

    Hi guys,
    sorry for my english.
I've a problem with the internet speed of my ADSL line(20Mega). Now I've the following components:
Dlink DSL-320B(modem)+Cisco Linksys EA6500. If I start a Speed test the result its only 4M in download, while i remove the router and i connect my Pc directly to modem, the speed test results its 13-14M.
Why? Is there any option in router that I must modify?
    Help please.
    Thx
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Do you have media prioritization enabled? This is most likely the case. You may disable this feature. Better yet, upgrade your router's firmware. This should fix the issue. Visit the EA6500 Support Page for the latest firmware.

  • Speed tests who to believe?

I've just carried out a test using BT's own tester.
It showed 71mps from the exchange to the hub but only 12 -16 mps between the hub and my lap top (wired & wi fi).  I  recycled the hub and the modem.  The results were similar.
Using a third party tester showed wi fi speeds of up to 82 mps which has now dropped to 30 - 35 mps.  My wi fi speed test results have always been quicker than wired speeds even at the end of the garden.
My HH3 shows the  firm ware as  Software version V100R001C01B036SP03_L_B | Time & date 08:18 31/05/2013
Any thoughts or suggestions which don't involve calls to BT would be welcome

Don't reset the modem again as this can cause your speed to drop even more because the exchange will interpret this as an unstable connection.
What has worked for other is to do a factory reset of the Homehub by pressing a pin into the red recess button for about 20secs. Apparently you may need to do this anything up to five or six times, not in succession but after letting it settle for a few hours.
After each reset let it settle then do a speed test. Obviously stop when you get to the speed you were obtaining.

  • Why difference between DSL speed tests?

I have the basic High Speed DSL account that Verizon is representing as being capable of .5 - 1 mbps.  But I've never gotten anything more than 120 kbps download and 35 kbps upload speeds in 'real world' file transfer tests.
However all the online speed test websites I've used, as well as the one the Verizon repair technician used when he came out here, return results from 750 kbps - 1 Mbps down, and 275 kbps - 400 kbps up.
I've done my own download speed tests on 3 different PCs via FTP, Bittorrent, and HTTP protocals, and none ever get more than 120 kbps down.  Firewalls can limit transfer rates, but I've shut them all down, and still only get a max of 120 knps down.
Can anyone explain why there's such a disparity between the speed test results from all these various Inet speed test websites, and my actual real world transfer rates?
    Thx
    ritz

As an FYI, we used to use a factor of 10 going from bytes to bits rather than a factor of 8. Start bits, stop bits, parity, etc.  I suppose it means less with large frames, but there is still some overhead.

  • Speed test giving erroneous results

I recently came across a broadband speed test. I have two computers that I use on a regular basis, one of them is in my bedroom and is connected to my BT Hub 2.0 by about 20 feet of lan cable. When I test the speed of my internet on this particular computer it gives me various results depending on when I test. Normally it gives me a result of less than 2 MB download speed, sometimes just less than 3 MB. However, I tested it on my other computer and I couldn't believe the results. The two tests I carried out back to back gave me results of 31 MB download, and 28 MB download. To be quite honest, I don't think these results are correct because as far as I know, BT Internet only provided download speeds up to 20 MB. So what the heck is going on?

The best tester is BT's own at : http://www.speedtester.bt.com/
Reason being, it falls within the BT network boundary layer, and is less influenced by other issues, that affect net based testers.
It should be the tester of choice, as Ian as implied.

  • BT Speed Tester Issue

I often use the BTW Performance test to see what my BT Profile is.
My PC is running Windows 8.1 Pro with IE11 and my laptop is running Windows 7 Pro with IE 11. (and FireFox 30).
Both machines have the latest version of Adobe Flash Player (both the IE and Firefox versions) and Sun Java installed. All the Microsoft updates are also installed.
I have recently upgraded from Infinity 1 to Infinity 2. (Past the 10 days since upgrade).
I can run the 1st part of the speed tester with no problems, but when I run the further diagnostics, it starts running then each time it displays the same error message "Your speed test has completed and the results are shown above, however during the test an error occurred while trying to retrieve additional details regarding your service. As a result we are unable to determine if the speed you received during the test is acceptable for your service. Please re-run the test if you require this additional information. "
If I re-run the test I still get the same error message. - Both IE and FF give the same error message.
    Is this website faulty ?
I have tried the usual Browser fixes of trusting the website and running it in Compatability Mode, but the same error exists.
Both my machines are running as a 'standard user', that is locked down with no Admin Rights.
Any one else having the same issues, or is the site faulty ?

This is normally a site problem and often happens. Continually trying will usually get the site to work

  • Strange test results

I'm on infinity 1 and had a few problems last month with my speeds, but that was fixed thanks to craig.
Anyway I've been getting 24 all day and night but I've been keeping an eye on it cos I was waiting for it to get back to 28. I noticed is was just slightly slower today so did a test and got these results. Not too bothered about it only being 22 but that test looks like it's for adsl and not infinity, never looked like this before? Is it just a blip or should I contact someone?
It looked like this on Saturday:

Dont suppose your from Burton-on-Trent by any chance???. I am having very similar issues as you. I have opened a thread somewhere as you will see. I got in touch with BT and they said they did a reset on my line but mine has got worse not better, write down to 19MB as of now and I did have 25.50MB on BTWholesale checker before the bad storm, about the same time as you on the 15th July 2013 ( http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/2838667896 )!. Time will tell for me hopefully!. You do notice the difference though, when you have been at speeds of 25MB and above you notice a big difference when you drop down to 19MB, the few meg difference seems to make alot of change in every way for everything to me, web pages, streaming, online gaming, P2P, just about all you notice!!!.

  • Accuracy of Verizon Speed Test

I am wondering about the accuracy of the Verizon speed test.  I have the 75/35 service and I am testing today around 10/15 on several test sites...except Verizon. The Verizon site, in the past and today, ALWAYS tells me the speed is what it is supposed to be. I find this very strange.
I typically use speedtest.net and have logged results from 75/35 to what I have today.

If you really want to know your true day to day speeds sign up for www.samknows.com I'm subscribed to SamKnows that is a free resource for consumers and volunteers. Their goal is to embed software suite into internet enabled devices to build the most accurate picture of global broadband performance. I am a participant & I get a report card that measures my speed etc....
They are contract by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to research and collect data on American fixed-line broadband speeds delivered by Internet Service Providers (ISP's) - until now, something that has never been undertaken in the USA.
99.9999999% of the time get faster upload & download speeds... I had Optimum before & they don't even come close to the performance or reliability.....
