Info object with time dependency

Hi Experts,
we have an info object (ZTEST) defined as time dependent with master data. ZTEST has several attributes (ATTR_1, ATTR_2).
Now I turned on one of the attribute (ATTR_1) to Navigation Attribute. The idea is to use this navigation attribute in the query, in order to avoid enhancement in the cube.
My question: could it be working? does it make sense? if yes, what should I pay attention to?

Hi
Of cause this will work fine.
After making infoobject available as navigational attribute, don`t forget that you have to choose
a validation date.
Therefore you can use a variable in query. (in query properties)
Otherwise, if there is no variabel, the actual date will always be choosen.

0CS_Item with time-dependent hierarchy

Dear Experts,
we are discussing pros and cons for a time-dependent item catalog (characteristic 0CS_item with time dependent hierarchy in BW) within consolidation SEM BCS 4.0. Does anybody has experiences on this topic?
I am quite sure it will be a performance issue and it means additional reporting effort (e.g. using reference period/year in the report comparing different hierarchies).
I am not sure if there are any other risks so I it would be great if anybody has some hints.

Some other things to consider:
- frequency of changes to item hierarchy. Could lead to a lot of item hierarchies in BW over time.
- hierarchy validity date does not seem to be displayed when running web queries and thus makes it difficult for the user to select the correct hierarchy when executing the query. Still looking for a fix for this.
- greater complexity in overall design. Is it really necessary to achieve correct financial statement presentation?
Virtual cube performance is not great but you could implement the data mart which provides typical BW query performance.
I stayed away from setting the item as time dependent for these reasons.

Schudling agreement with time dependent excise base value taking wrongly.

Sub: in migo excise base amount is not changing as per the scheduling agreement type LP ( time dependent ).
I have created the scheduling agreement type LP with time dependent.
I have maintained the price value in two validated period i.e
01/07/08 to 31/07/08 price is 100 rs.
01/08/08 to 31/08/08 price is 200 rs.
I have maintained the delivery schedule on
15/07/08 of quantity 1 nos.
When I am doing the goods receipts for the scheduling agreement on
Document date I am giving 15/07/08.
Posting date I am giving 15/07/08.
I am giving the posting date in the excise also 15/07/08.
After item ok.
When I will the excise base value it is taking 200 and also excise duty is also calculating on 200.
When I will post the document
The stock account and GR/IR account is taking 100 only
And excise duty is posting for rs: 200 only
Why the excise base value is not changing as per the validity period.
What setting I have to do the change the excise base value as per the validity date maintained in the time dependent .

I was wondering in J1ID there is validity from date only no to date, Pls tell where you have maintained excise base amount based on from to period.
In J1ID if you maintain any new accesable value for the later date it will consider that.

Composite Provider with Time dependent master data

Hi ,
we have a infoset and due to some performance issues we are creating a composite provider to replace Info set and that Info set is having Time dependent master data objects and DSO.. But when I was creating composite provider I do not see two time dependent objects (Valid from and Valid to ) in composite provider. Composite provider does not have them/ is it a limitation? Appreciate if provide a input on this.. [We are in BW on HANA 7.4 with SP 7 environment]

I remember that there was the following limitation with Composite provider in terms of time dependent masterdata but it was a little old limitation.(some time in 2013)
If temporal joins are required where the result set is depending on time-dependent master data, InfoSets have to be used since CompositeProviders can't provide that functionality.
I am not sure whether it was solved in the latest release and dont remember an OSS where this was addressed.

Hierarchy with time-dependent structure

Hello, collegues,
Im attempting to build a report on payrolll data using DS 0HR_PY_1_CE.
There is a time-dependent structure hierarchy which changes very often (new departments are created\dispatched) on 0ORGUNIT.
The data granularity in infoprovider is Calmonth.
To build a report we need to use a derivation either for the beginning or for the end of month.
In case of a new department creation with derivation set for the last day of month - new department will show up in the report asigned to the right place on organizational strucure tree.
If a department being disbanded during the month (since the derivation is set for the end) - the amount will go into not assigned hiearachy nodes which is unaccetable for the business.
The same thing happens vice versa.
Any ideas will be highly appreciated.

we have faced the same problem with closed-org units some orgunits get closed over a period of time and they will be in the un assigned nodes in bw.
its the structure thats maintained in the source and we only get them from the source as it is and we are only loading to bi based on the standrad extractor and its does not pick closed org units.
my idea would be we need to build a custom extractor based function module which would read the hirarchies based on version and and based on time and keep them in the relevant nodes according to the bussineeds and we can load it to org unit and build hirearchy node variables on them in the report.

Hi,
Though you Material grade is time dependent and sequentially changing.
You can create 4 different DTP with Grade selection (only 1 Transformation).
For example, 1 DTP with filter Grade A, another DTP with grade B, so on.
and executive all 4 dtp sequentially and activate master data after every DTP run.

Compare two months with time-dependent master data

Hi gurus,
I have the requirement to make a query that compares values from two months but the key figures are restricted by a time-dependent atributte, I created a structure restricted with an Exit-variable that fills the month in course and the month before, the issue is that query designer only accepts individual variables so only one month displays data.
Is there a way to use several key-dates so the time-dependent attributes can be used for especific months?

Problem with Time dependent master data

Dear All,
I have 0PERSON master data infoobject. It is getting records extracted from backend R3 and from a different datasource called 'Peoplesoft'. It has a field 'Date of Birth'. Point of concern here is - whether a particular employee is present in Peoplesoft or in R3, his date of birth is constant. Unfortunately someone hs made 'Date of Birth' as a time dependent attribute of the InfoObject 0PERSON.
We extract data from Peoplesoft from 01.01.1900 to 31.07.2005. From 01.08.2005 onwards, data is getting extracted from R3.There are some employees which are present in Peoplesoft but they are not in R3.
Problem is occuring when the user is reporting on a relevant Infocube containing this 0PERSON infoobject. He does not see the value for this 'Date of Birth' field for certain employees. The reason for this is that the 'Date of Birth' field is blank in the interval 01.08.2005 - 31.12.9999 as this employee was absent in R3 and hence no record/s got extracted.
To view this value in the report - Please suggest me a possible remedy. I thought to write a routine but I dont think it is advisable to change a time dependent master data.

Hi,
There are two ways of solving your issue.
- Remove the time dependent check box for 0person, delete the transactional data, load the master data again and reload the transactional data.
- Write a program to extend the 'Date to' value to 31.12.9999 for all employees.

Load Time Independant Object to Time Dependant Object

This is a common situation in a data warehousing environment were the time dependacy of an object (master data or Hierarchy) is not maintained in the source system but needs to be maintained in the DW system.
Lot other ETL tools automatically provide the SCD type-2 functionaly which automatically makes the previous record in the DW system as a old record and update the "SCD to-date" field either system date - 1(day or sec) and inserts a new record with "SCD From-Date" as system date when ever an attribute that we are tracking for "SCD type-2" changes value which is different from the value that is present in the DW.
Can we achieve the same in BW? Please let me know.

The 'to-date' of existing record is adjusted by BW when you are changing the attribute with a different (or overlapping) 'from' date. Following is what SAP says in online help
"Master data must exist between the period of 01.01.1000 and 12.31.1000 in the database. When you create data, gaps are automatically filled. When you change or initially create master data, in some cases, you must adjust the validity periods of the adjoining records accordingly."
I think 12.31.1000 is a typo and it meant 12.31.9999.

It may not exactly be the same as what you describe in other ETL tools.

How to setup job chain with time dependant steps

Hi
I need to setup the following job chain with next job step waiting until specified time before starting
Step 1 Job A Time 07:30 if complete go to job step 2
Step 2 Job B start time 09:00 if complete go to job step 3
Step 3 Job C start time 09:30 (end job)
Have tried to use a pre-condition in step 2 and 3 but that just caused thoes steps to be skipped.
can somebody point me in the right direction

Thanks for your help, I managed to set this up by embedding multiple Job Chains with their own time window in a master job chain.
As we continue our roll out not sure how scalable the solution will be as you have to create multiple job chains for essentially the same job with the only difference being a specific time window.
I guess only time will tell.

Time Dependency issue

Hi Gurus,
                 I have User master data Info Object, and time dependency User group as navigational attribute. I checked navigational attributes in Info Cubes and MulitProviders. For testing purpose we have changed the validity period of User group like for example :
Output of Master Data.
__User       UserGRP      Validity From    Validity To__
MARKD   OCV             01/01/2010   06/17/2010
MARKD   PSV              06/18/2010 12/31/9999
                 But in the report it is showing current user group as PSA for all records. For old records which are before 06/17/2010 is suppose to be OCV but it is taking everything as PSA(before and after validity period).
                 Please any suggestions on this will appreciated.

Hi Ganesh,
The time dependant objects display the result based on key date.
By default the key date is current date.
So it will display the value of user group as of today in the whole data set.
If you set the key date to past date it will set the output of whole data set as on that day.
If you want it to be varying, you will have to add a user group field in the cube and populate it using ABAP lookuo on user master data.

Master data records for time dependant data

In R/3. say master data has 1500 records. In BW, while loading this, i get the same number of records in monitor.
But when i check the maintain master data for this info object, I find each row being duplicated. The difference being the valid to and valid from date. The info object is time dependant.
So my question is: this adjustment done...is it ok continuing forward or do we change something now so that i dont see duplicate rows?

hi,
everything is ok here (I assume you have timeframes for e.g.: 01.01.1000 - 27.12.2005 and 28.12.2005 - 31.12.9999).
If you are working on developement system now - change something time-dependent in your master data tommorow (in your source system) and extract delta. Two new periods will be created and you will have 3 records, e.g.: 01.01.1000 - 27.12.2005 , 28.12.2005 - 28.12.2005 and 29.12.2005 - 31.12.9999.

Reporting on Time Dependent Master Date Info Provider

Dear All.
We have a info object Employee which is time dependent master data containing all the information with time dependency, when i create the query over this info object it give me the option to select the key date and it show the accurate information which is lying according to the key date.
my requirement is to show all the records in the report which are there in master data but i am not able to show more then one record cause of the key date, can you please let me know how can i show all the records for any given employee id in the query.

By standard if you create query directly on time dependent info object, it would display the active records as of the report execution (if no key date has been provided). In any case you can only see one record per the info object key, not the history.
In order to fulfill this requirement, you may need to create infoset on this infoobject and select "date from" and "date to" as part of infoset fields.
Then create bex query on the infoset and drag the "date from" and "date to" also into "rows" section of the query (apart from infoobject key, time dependent attributes). This will let you see the history of changes to time-dependent attributes of the infoobject.

Which tables are hit when a query runs - time dependent objects performance

Hello all,
We are trying to see what are the effects of time dependent master data objects in query. We will have a key date as variable so user can see the data as a particular point.
I am trying to see what are all the tables hit when a query is executed and how the time dependent info objects affect performance. Basically we are trying to see is - does the query hit the P or Q or Y tables of the infoobject. Is there any tcode or program that I can use to see which tables were hit and how much time the query took to execute.
Also if the time dependent attribute is in free characteristic does it directly effect the query.
If you can share some more experience with time dependent master data objects in query and its effects on performance that will be great.

That is what I actually did before posting message here, the tables that are hit are /BI0/S...or /BI0/R and /BI0/T.... I never see the tables /BI0/P or /BI0/Q ... tables hit. I have a key date on variable screen at so when i put future or past date the /BI0/SDATE table is hit does it sound about right to you ?
Is the /S table hit the most because the data is being seen from the SID's that are generated.
Can you share your thoughts.
